<p>“I learned about the ban before I got off work last night,” a business manager at one of the affected Taiwanese food producers told Reuters, adding that he did not know why his company was banned.</p>

<p>“There are food companies saying their products had been rejected at China’s customs already,” he said, declining to be named.</p>

<p>China has made it clear that it is fiercely against Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. Chinese armed forces have stepped up pressure on Taiwanese defence. On August 1, Taiwan’s defence ministry said that four Chinese fighter jets entered its Air Defence Zone (ADZ).</p>

<p>On the issue of import suspension, Reuters said that there was no immediate comment from the Chinese side.</p>

<p>Human Rights Watch (HRW) said on Monday (August 1) that a European Union (EU) drone is helping Libyan forces to intercept boats of migrants in the Mediterranean Sea who are then subjected to "arbitrary detention and abuse". HRW said that the drone is operated from Malta, an EU member. It detects the boats leaving Libya and European border agency Frontex then passes the information on to the Libyan coast guard.</p>

<p>"Frontex claims the surveillance is to aid rescue, but the information facilitates interceptions and returns to Libya ... (despite) overwhelming evidence of torture and exploitation of migrants and refugees in Libya," HRW said in a statement.</p>

<p>Libya itself is war-torn. It is a launchpad for people fleeing from violence further south in&nbsp;Africa continent. These peole attempt to seek refuge in Europe.</p>

<p>HRW said Frontex's drone appeared to have helped Libyan forces intercept a boat in international waters, without informing nearby rescuers.</p>

<p>It is now investigating how "the shift from sea to air surveillance contributes to the cycle of extreme abuse in Libya"</p>

EU drone helping Libya send migrants to 'abuse': HRW

<p>The military government in Myanmar extended the state of emergency in the country by six months, said state media in Myanmar. The junta chief has said that elections can only take place when situation in the country "was stable and peaceful".</p>

<p>Myanmar's military, led by Min Ayng Hlaing, toppled civillian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi last year.</p>

<p>According to a report in Global New Light of Myanmar, Hlaing requested the military government to "allow him to serve for an additional 6 months"</p>

<p>Members of the junta's National Defence and Security Council "unanimously supported the proposal", it said.</p>

<p>The military government has previously said that elections would be held and the state of emergency lifted by August 2023 -- extending the initial one-year timeline it announced days after the coup.</p>

<p>To justify its coup, the military alleges massive fraud during 2020 elections. The elections were won by Suu Kyi's &nbsp;National League for Democracy (NLD).</p>

<p>Last year, it cancelled the results of the polls, saying it had uncovered more than 11 million instances of voter fraud.</p>

<p>International observers said the voting was largely free and fair.</p>

<p>Suu Kyi has been detained since the coup and faces an eclectic raft of charges that could see her jailed for more than 150 years.&nbsp;</p>

The junta chief has said that elections can only take place when situation in the country "was stable and peaceful". Myanmar's military, led by Min Ayng Hlaing, toppled civillian government led by Aung San Suu Kyi last year. According to a report in Global New Light of Myanmar, Hlaing requested the military government to "allow him to serve for an additional 6 months" Members of the junta's National Defence and Security Council "unanimously supported the proposal", it said. The military government has previously said that elections would be held and the state of emergency lifted by August 2023 -- extending the initial one-year timeline it announced days after the coup. To justify its coup, the military alleges massive fraud during 2020 elections. The elections were won by Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD). Last year, it cancelled the results of the polls, saying it had uncovered more than 11 million instances of voter fraud. International observers said the voting was largely free and fair. Suu Kyi has been detained since the coup and faces an eclectic raft of charges that could see her jailed for more than 150 years. <p>A video of a woman baker fighting off an armed robber with just a cleaning cloth has gone viral. The Turkish bakery is in Netherlands. The video is likely from the CCTV camera installed in the bakery.&nbsp;</p>

<p>At the start of the video, the lady can be seen minding her own business and doing a little clean-up of the shop. The robber, armed with a knife and wearing a face mask can be seen peeping through the door surreptitiously to ensure the shop is not crowded.</p>

<p>He enters the bakery brandishing a&nbsp;knife and heads straight to the cash register. The woman retreats at first. But as if struck by an angry impulse, races ahead to tackle the robber. What follows is a fistfight during which the woman rains punches, slaps and some kicks onto the thief who clearly appears to be taken aback by this cleaning cloth counterattack. Deciding its better to let go of the cash than to bear this ferocious onslaught, the robber escapes.</p>

<p>Earlier this month, the USA celebrated its Independence Day on the fourth of July. The day holds tremendous importance in American history as the founding fathers of the American nation proclaimed Declaration of Independence which led to the formation of sovereign American state. The victory over colonial Britain was not achieved easily but was a result of a hard-fought war called American revolutionary war or American war of independence. The eight-year war that started in 1775 resulted in the defeat of British forces.</p>

<p>There are several battles that are considered pivotal in the revolutionary war. These are testimony to the see-saw nature of the war</p>

<h2>1. Battle of Monmouth (July 28, 1778)</h2>

<p>This battle was fought at Monmouth. New Jersey. General George Washington ordered Charles Lee, the second in command to take a small force of the army and engage the British till he assembled a new army and came to his aid. Lee attacked the British force but after several hours fighting, ordered his forces to retreat. Washington, with his troops, met Lee in New Jersey and together they attacked the retreating British resulting in victory for the Continental Army.</p>

<h2>2. Battle of King’s Mountain (October 1780)</h2>

<p>This battle was fought in South Carolina between Patriot militia (militia supporting revolutionaries) and loyalist forces (supporting British). This was one of the bloodiest battle of the war. The Patriot militia attacked the Loyalist army who refused to surrender. The loyalists then led suicidal charge down the mountain but were gunned down by Patriot Militia.</p>

<p>The Loyalist army suffered 157 casualties, 163 were wounded, and 698 captured. Patriot militia suffered only 28 fatalities.</p>

<h2>3. Battle Of Fort Ticonderoga (May 1775)</h2>

<p>Fort Ticonderoga was a strategic location. Whoever controlled it, had access to Canada and Hudson River Valley. Revolutionaries attacked the fort on May 10, 1775 at dawn. The attack caught sleeping British troops by surprise. Capture of the fort was an important early victory for the revolutionaries.</p>

<p>This battle took place in South Carolina. The general leading the revolutionary force ordered his men to leave the front after firing just two rounds of the gun. British mistook this for a rout and raced ahead, only to be gunned down by the revolutionaries. British forces suffered 800 casualties while only 100 fighters in the revolutionary army were killed.</p>

<p>The battle of Saratoga decisively turned the revolutionary war in American favour. In first battle of Saratoga, British emerged victorious. However the victory proved to be costly for the British. On October 7, British forces attacked Americans at Bemis Heights. However, this battle ended in British defeat.</p>

<p>American victory in Battle of Saratoga convinced Britain’s colonial rivals like France that British were losing the war. The French then began to actively supply the Americans and this turned the tide further in Americans’ favour.</p>

<p>Imagine you return from a nice vacation, are happy and content that your escape from everyday cycle was a fulfilling one. You unpack your suitcase planning to take out the souvenirs you bought and see 18 scorpions pop&nbsp;out. It is not known whether a woman in Austria was thinking about souvenirs she bought from her Croatia vacation (if she indeed buy) but she was nonetheless startled to see 18 scorpions when she opened her suitcase.</p>

<p>Newsweek reported that the woman lives in Natternbach in Austria, a city close to Linz. The 18 scorpions&nbsp;included a mother scorpion and her babies.</p>

<p>The woman, surely scared as hell, managed to take a picture of the arachnids&nbsp;and then called Tierhilfe Gusental, an animal rescue service which&nbsp;made a Facebook post in German.</p>

<p>“This afternoon, we were contacted by a lady from Natternbach because blind passengers had settled in her luggage on her Croatia trip,” says the FB post.</p>

<p>New York Post has reported that there are plans to send the animals to Croatia, their native country.&nbsp;</p>

<p>This is reportedly the third case of Croatian scorpions ending up in Austria. A woman in Linz found a scorpion in her apartment last month. The scary part is that the woman had been home for three weeks after her trip abroad before she discovered the scorpion.</p>

<p>But now NASA, the space agency which has multiple rovers on the red planet and an orbitter around it has released some images in which clear blue streaks are visible on the planet's surface. The image has been captured by Mars Reconnaissance Orbitter (MRO) so it has captured an area on the martian surface that spans hundreds of metres. Each pixel in this image is equal to 25 feet on martian surface.</p>

<p>The blue streaks on the martian surface are a beautiful sight. The martian region visible in these images is called Gamboa Crater. It is located in the northern hemisphere of the planet.</p>

<p>So why is the red planet so blue?</p>

<p>The answer lies in the way this image was processed. This is what is called a 'false colour'. The blue region is actually as red as the planet is but has been coloured blue due to slight variations in the frequency of the reflected light. The region is NOT actually blue.</p>

<p>So is it just a way to make an image more beautiful and nothing else? No.</p>

<p>The regions streaked in blue colour indicate presence of geologic structures. When an analyst studies this image it will be helpful for him or her to quickly know where are these geologic structures located. This may help us to understand martian geology in greater detail.</p>

This stoppage in the 969 MW power plant is sure to add to woes of Pakistanis who are suffering due to power shortage. Even in big Pakistani cities of Karachi and Lahore, some areas are facing power cuts lasting for upto 12 and 16 hours.</p>

<p>Pakistani government has already declared a 'power emergency'. There is even a possibility of switching off mobile and internet services due to power shortage. Markets and offices are shutting earlier than usual and public transport is being affected.</p>

<p>The situation is likely to hurt image of incumbent government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Sharif's party is reeling from fresh political setbacks it received in polls in the region of Punjab in Pakistan.&nbsp;</p>
