Thousands of tourists thronged Asia's largest Tulip Garden in Srinagar on the very first day of its opening. The tourism industry is hoping that there will be a record number of tourists visiting the valley to enjoy the beautiful visuals of the Tulip Garden.&nbsp;

We have 70 gardeners in the garden who work all through the year to make this beautiful garden. It's a lot of hard work to make beds, bulb sowing, to protect them from any disease. It's a year-long process. The initial response is great, and I am sure it's going to be a great season. We are extremely happy to host people from across. The real makers of this garden are those gardeners who work day and night for months to prepare the garden for visitors. The preparations go on for months before the garden opens to the public. Around 100 gardeners work all through the year in this garden to make it so beautiful and mesmerising.&nbsp;

''I have been working on this garden since 2002, This year we have around 1.5 million tulips and it's a lot of hard work. Our reward is when people from across the world come to see and enjoy this tulip garden. We start the whole process in November and for three months we have to keep working on it. There are around 100 gardeners in this tulip garden. Tourists coming to see this garden gives us so much happiness,'' said Mohammad Ayub, Gardener.&nbsp;

This year the garden has been made much more attractive with many other additions. More trees and shrubs have been added, along with an open-air cafeteria. The tourism department is also planning to sell various Kashmiri breads and tea in the garden. To enjoy these beautiful visuals and authentic Kashmiri food experiences, thousands of tourists have already flocked to the garden.&nbsp;

A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was killed during a shootout against the terrorists in the Zoonimar area of Soura in the outskirts of Kashmir's Srinagar district.

The police said they have identified the terrorists involved in the attack and will track them soon.&nbsp;

The&nbsp;deceased was identified as constable Aamir Hussian. The Jammu and Kashmir Police earlier tweeted that “in a brief shootout at Soura area of Srinagar City, SgCT Amir Hussain Lone R/O Kupwara got injured &amp; attained martyrdom. We pay rich tributes to the martyr &amp; stand by his family at this critical juncture.'”

A wreath laying ceremony was held for the constable at district Police lines in Srinagar. All high-ranking officials from the police department and paramilitary forces were present and paid rich tributes to the slain personnel.&nbsp;

''Police had an input about the movement of three Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. A quick reaction team (QRT) of police was following the three terrorists, who were travelling in a red colour vehicle. They were engaged in a brief shoot-out at Soura in which a police soldier sustained injury and later succumbed. The terrorist trio were headed by Basit, who had taken over LeT’s command after Mehran’s killing. Two others have also been identified. They will be tracked soon,” said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.

The body of the soldier was taken by the family for the final rites.

The tourists visiting the valley are loving these unique and tasty breads. A lot of tourists sipped the Kashmiri Kehwa in the Zabarwan Park. The initiative is helping local bread makers to sell their products easily.

"We enjoyed different varieties of the breads kept on display in this garden. I came with my whole family, and we tried almost all breads. They have a very distinct taste, and we thoroughly enjoyed the Kehwa with breads," said Rashmi, a tourist,&nbsp;

The Tulip Garden will be thrown open to the public on 23 March and all of these bread varieties will be kept there for the tourists.

Winter sports in India is no longer dominated by men. The Jammu and Kashmir government this year specially held winter sports events for women participants. These female athletes had come from over 11 states of the country and were competing in various winter sports activities.&nbsp;

Earlier, there were hardly any female skiers, snowboarders, or snowshoe racers but this year all those barriers were broken. Hundreds of women arrived in Kashmir's scenic ski resort Gulmarg this year to be a part of winter sports.&nbsp;

Bhiwani has been coming to Gulmarg for over four years. She is among top skiers in the country. She says when she started there was hardly any women participation in winter sports but now the numbers have gone up tremendously.&nbsp;

"Obviously, things have changed. I have been coming here for many years and when we started, we hardly used to see any girls. There used to be more men compared to women, but over the years we can see more women participating. There are a lot of competitions coming up for females. The participants are from across the country. Things have been changing and it's good to see that we are getting support. Earlier we couldn't see women standing up and participating," Bhavani Rachana, who is an athlete.&nbsp;

"I believe we need more support from the government, the government has taken many initiatives to support women, especially for winter sports and given the condition I am sure we will have many women participating in the coming winter Olympics. The only motive is to show youngsters my journey. If someone tomorrow says that I want to be like Bhavani, that would be the biggest achievement for me," Rachana added.&nbsp;

Girls like Bhavani are becoming an inspiration for many young female athletes. A local female athlete from Kashmir won the snowshoe race held in Gulmarg recently. She plans to represent India at the Olympics.&nbsp;

"I am extremely happy that I got first prize for Jammu and Kashmir. I was competing with athletes across the country. It's a great opportunity and girls should use these opportunities. There are special sports events for girls and it's a great thing. I want to represent India in the Olympics and will be preparing for that," said Sara, who is a Kashmiri athlete.&nbsp;

The government of Jammu and Kashmir plans to have more and more female participation in various winter adventure sports. The government is organising special sports events for women so that young female athletes can pick up sports as their careers.&nbsp;

"Women are the backbone of the nation, we had a major emphasis on women participation. All the women who are here, we are providing them the best support and we are sure in future we will have more and more women joining us for the winter adventure sports. We recently had a young athlete who won a wushu championship for the country. The women should fight the odds and win and be the face for the women of Kashmir," said Zeeshan Khan, who is an Assistant Director of Tourism.&nbsp;

The female athletes now hope that the government will support them and make teams for every sport to provide a platform for these girls to represent India at international sports events.&nbsp;

The government said 360, 000 children are to be vaccinated in the Kashmir Valley. The government has planned to vaccinate around 35,000 children in 10 districts of Kashmir every day.&nbsp;

The schools have been shut across the valley since the beginning of the Covid pandemic. The education sector was among the worst hit and one of the reasons for students to come to the vaccination booth today was to keep safe from covid so that they don't have to miss school again. The students were hopeful that all the children will get vaccinated, and schools will start running normally after it.&nbsp;

Vaccination is very important for all of us. If we want to get rid of covid, we need to take the shot. I would request every student as well as their parents to get this vaccine. It's to make sure that our school life goes on normally and it is not affected in future. I am very happy I got my first shot today,'' said Shazia, a student.&nbsp;

The health department has made arrangements across the valley to vaccinate children in every area. Teams have been deputed at various remote areas as well. The department plans to vaccinate all the children in the said age group within a span of three weeks. Around 1534 vaccination centres have been put in place.&nbsp;

Our target is 3.36 lac vaccinations for the Kashmir region, and we have kept vaccines available at all districts. The festival will start from Badamwari as almond flowers are the first to bloom. The garden located at the foothills of Kohi-Maraan mountain on 300 kanals of land has more than 1000 almond trees.&nbsp;

''We are having spring season and let me share the good news that we will be celebrating springtime as the full season this year.&nbsp; It would normally be confined to celebrating tulip festival only. But tulips come in the last week of March or the first week of April so this time we have decided to celebrate other flowers also which come early in the spring season. We start with badamwari, when the almond bloom is there, then we have wild tulips which bloom much earlier than the tulips we have in Srinagar. Similarly,&nbsp;we have some other flowers which come in March. We have decided we will be having a full-time season. We are expecting a good number of tourists this season as well. Almond flowers in full bloom in Kashmir

Four terrorists were gunned down by Indian security forces in three different operations in the Kashmir valley on Saturday (March 12). One terrorist was arrested alive. Three encounters took place in the Pulwama, Ganderbal and Handwara districts of Kashmir.&nbsp;

Multiple cordon and search operations were launched by security forces at various places in the valley and three of them led to encounters. The entire operation has been deemed as a big success.&nbsp;

"We launched joint operations at 4-5 locations last night. So far two terrorists of JeM including one Pakistani killed in Pulwama, one terrorist of LeT killed each in Ganderbal &amp; Handwara. Encounters over in Handwara &amp; Pulwama. Also arrested 01 terrorist alive," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir.&nbsp;

The first encounter took place in Chewaklan Village of Pulwama district in South Kashmir. Two terrorists were killed by the security forces at the encounter site. Both the terrorists belonged to Jaish Outfit. One of them is said to be a Pakistani terrorist. The operation has been called off.&nbsp;

The second Encounter started in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir. In Ganderbal, one terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit was killed in the gunfight.

The third encounter broke out at the Rajwar area of Handwara district in north Kashmir. One terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba has been killed in the gunfight. Security forces have called off the operation at the encounter site.&nbsp;

On Thursday, three terrorists were killed in two operations in the Kashmir valley. Two of them were killed in south Kashmir's Pulwama district while one of the terrorists was killed in Hazratbal area of Srinagar. All of them were said to be of LeT outfit.&nbsp;

Three encounters took place in the Pulwama, Ganderbal and Handwara districts of Kashmir. Multiple cordon and search operations were launched by security forces at various places in the valley and three of them led to encounters. The entire operation has been deemed as a big success. "We launched joint operations at 4-5 locations last night. So far two terrorists of JeM including one Pakistani killed in Pulwama, one terrorist of LeT killed each in Ganderbal & Handwara. Encounters over in Handwara & Pulwama. Also arrested 01 terrorist alive," said Vijay Kumar, IG Kashmir. The first encounter took place in Chewaklan Village of Pulwama district in South Kashmir. Two terrorists were killed by the security forces at the encounter site. Both the terrorists belonged to Jaish Outfit. One of them is said to be a Pakistani terrorist. The operation has been called off. The second Encounter started in Ganderbal district of central Kashmir. In Ganderbal, one terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit was killed in the gunfight. The third encounter broke out at the Rajwar area of Handwara district in north Kashmir. One terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba has been killed in the gunfight. Security forces have called off the operation at the encounter site. On Thursday, three terrorists were killed in two operations in the Kashmir valley. Two of them were killed in south Kashmir's Pulwama district while one of the terrorists was killed in Hazratbal area of Srinagar. All of them were said to be of LeT outfit.
