<p>The former UK soldier and terror suspect Daniel Khalife, who was arrested for escaping from custody from Wandsworth prison, might have made use of bed sheets for jail break, media reports said quoting a court hearing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The 21-year-old already faces prosecution for terror-related offences and was nabbed after three days of a manhunt following his escape.&nbsp;Earlier, the reports quoting authorities said that Khalife, who worked in the kitchen of Wandsworth prison, slipped out by strapping himself to the underside of a food delivery truck.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He used a material "made from bedsheets with clips at each end".</p>

<p>The new revelation of Khalife using bedsheet came forth at the Westminster Magistrates' Court hearing.</p>

<p>Later, to nab the fugitive, the police officer took out his Taser and warned Khalife a warning to get off the bike. Khalife did what was said and the police officer arrested him.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When Khalife appeared in front of the court for the hearing, he was wearing a police-issued tracksuit.&nbsp;During the eight-minute hearing, the accused confirmed his name and date of birth. "No fixed abode" was given as his address.&nbsp;</p>

'Bedsheets with clips': Nabbed UK ex-soldier-turned terror suspect Khalife's prison break plan

<p>A video has been circulating on social media, claiming that there was heavy waterlogging at the venue of the G20 Summit outside Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi after heavy rains lashed parts of the Indian capital city.</p>

<p>Media reports quoting officials present at the venue said Sunday (September 10) that the hall entrance outside Bharat Mandapam was saw some waterlogging.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per data by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Delhi recorded a rainfall of 38.6mm in 24 hours till Sunday 8:30 am local time.</p>

<p>Later, additional rainfall of 1.3mm was also recorded from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm, media reports said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A video was shared by Delhi urban development minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on social media platform X, which showed the accumulated water outside the G20 venue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tagging the Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the Delhi minister captioned the now-viral video, "This is very serious. Even after your 50+ inspections, if the very main area around Mandapam is submerged in water, then heads must roll. I as Minister of Delhi don’t have control over this Central Govt area, else would have assisted you sir."&nbsp;</p>

This exercise continued throughout the night and minutest details were looked into with status being updated to LG."&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chairman and managing director of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) Pradeep Singh Kharola, the official who looks after the Pragati Maidan complex, reportedly said that some waterlogging did take place in front of Hall 5 because of the Delhi rains.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Multiple machines and manpower were deployed simultaneously. Water (was) drained out and cleaned immediately," Kharola told an Indian media outlet. &nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;</p>

Taiwan says Chinese carrier group in Western Pacific for training

<p>UN human rights chief&nbsp;Volker Turk on Monday (September 11) urged for an international investigation into the&nbsp;2020 Beirut port blast that killed 178 people. The Beirut port blast on August 4, 2020 "ripped the city to shreds" exacerbating the socio-economic crisis amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As per reports, the blast is thought to have been set off by a fire at a warehouse. It detonated ammonium nitrate, hundreds of tonnes.</p>

<p>There were over 178 people who lost their lives in the catastrophe. The blast left over 6,500 injured while 300,000 people became homeless. There was massive infrastructure damage that plagued the country ever since.</p>

<p>China has thrown its support behind the G20 Delhi Declaration released during India's presidency of the multilateral grouping. This move has sparked discussions about the intricacies of global politics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Harsh Pant, the vice president of studies and foreign policy at the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), spoke to WION on the subtleties behind China's agreement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Underscoring that the G20 document reflects India's position effectively, Prof Pant said, "China has been getting relatively bad press in recent months and recent times. It has been very obstructionist about the G20 process, but with India making an effort to reach out to Russia, it would have been foolhardy for China not to accept."</p>

<p>"With other countries accepting most of the logic of what India was proposing, China would have been termed as a spoiler, and I don't think China wanted to be out of the tent simply for the sake of it," he added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pant stressed that China's willingness to compromise reflects the general mood of the summit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He suggested that India framed most of the declaration through the lens of the Global South, aligning with China's interest in greater engagement with this region.</p>

<p>"China is also keen on having a greater engagement with the global south so I don't think anything there for china to complain about in that sense and therefore China's willingness to be onboard happened," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Chinese Premier Li Qiang’s at the G20 summit on Saturday (September 9) “urged all countries to respect one another, seek common ground while shelving differences". He added that G-20 needed “unity instead of division, cooperation instead of confrontation, and inclusion instead of exclusion”.</p>

<h2><strong>Ukraine's stance on Delhi Declaration&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Pant also puts Ukraine's feelings of disappointment regarding the absence of a direct condemnation of Russia into perspective.</p>

<p>He highlighted that the G20 is not the platform for resolving geopolitical issues. "That (condemnation of Russia) was never the point of G20 and that will never happen to a G20 platform if the war is to be resolved."</p>

<p>"If Ukrainians read it carefully," Pant noted, "they will find that the challenges that Ukraine has faced and is facing are very well represented here."</p>

<p>Notably, Ukraine was mentioned for a total of four times in the document. The Delhi declaration read, "Concerning the war in Ukraine, while recalling the discussion in Bali, we reiterated our national positions and resolutions adopted at the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly (A/RES/ES-11/1 and A/RES/ES-11/6) and underscored that all states must act in a manner consistent with the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter in its entirety."</p>

<p>Pant added, "The entire West, which continues to support Ukraine, was present at the G20 summit. If they have supported this document, they must have found something of value in it. G20 can only outline some of the principles through which the conflict can be resolved, and most of these principles favor Ukraine."</p>

<h2><strong>India's steadfast stance on Russia-Ukraine war&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>The expert also suggested that the Delhi Declaration was not as unexpected as it seemed.</p>

<p>"I don't see this as any big change in India's stance on the Russia-Ukraine issue," Pant remarked.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"If you read the statement carefully, almost all the points India has been making about the Ukraine conflict are there. Whether it's pertaining to territorial integrity being respected, international law and the UN, or strictly respecting territory integrity, even the known use and threat of nuclear weapons... without naming Russia a number of things would have been said that are directed at Russia so I think I don't see any particular change in India stands on Russia-Ukraine because of the G20 document."</p>

<p>G20 forum noted with “deep concern the immense human suffering and the adverse impact of wars and conflicts around the world”.</p>

<p>"In line with the UN Charter, all states must refrain from the threat or use of force to seek territorial acquisition against the territorial integrity and sovereignty or political independence of any state. The use or threat of use of nuclear weapons is inadmissible," the statement said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It also called on "all states to uphold the principles of international law including territorial integrity and sovereignty, international humanitarian law, and the multilateral system that safeguards peace and stability. The peaceful resolution of conflicts and efforts to address crises as well as diplomacy and dialogue are critical."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Afghan Taliban criticised the closure of its main border crossing with Pakistan this week after clashes between security forces, saying the halt in trade would see heavy losses for businesses.</p>

<p>The busy Torkham border crossing was closed on Wednesday after Pakistani and Afghan Taliban forces started firing at each other, according to local officials.</p>

<p>"The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan deems the closure of Torkham gate and opening of fire on Afghan security forces by the Pakistani side contrary to good neighbourliness," Taliban administration's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement late on Saturday.</p>
