Facilitate Corp, an Australian project management firm, has filed a lawsuit against Twitter seeking cumulative payments of around $665,000 over an alleged non-payment of bills of work done in four countries.

Facilitate Corp, an Australian project management firm, has filed a lawsuit against Twitter seeking cumulative payments of around $665,000 over an alleged non-payment of bills of work done in four countries. According to a report by the news agency Reuters on Monday (July 3), Facilitate filed the lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on June 29, claiming breach of contract over Twitter's failure to pay its invoices. Facilitate said that from 2022 through early 2023, it had installed sensors in Twitter's offices in London and Dublin, completed an office fit-out in Singapore, and cleared an office in Sydney. Money Twitter owes to Facilitate The Australian firm said that for these works, Twitter owed the company about 203,000 pounds, S$546,600, and A$61,300, respectively. Facilitate also said it was seeking compensatory damages in an amount to be determined at trial, legal costs and interest at the maximum legal rate. Twitter has not filed a defence yet. Facilitate's lawsuit is the latest alleging non-payment of bills and rent against Twitter since Elon Musk took over the social media giant. In May, a former public relations firm filed a suit in a New York court saying that Twitter had not paid its bills. And earlier this year, advisory firm Innisfree M&A Inc sued Twitter seeking $1.9 million for what it said were unpaid bills after it advised the social media giant on its acquisition by Musk. Twitter applies temporary reading limits Meanwhile, Twitter has applied temporary reading limits to address "extreme levels" of data scraping and system manipulation, Elon Musk said last Saturday. Musk tweeted that verified accounts are temporarily limited to reading 6,000 posts a day, adding that the unverified accounts and new unverified accounts are limited to reading 600 posts a day and 300 posts per day, respectively. The above move comes a day after Twitter announced that it would require users to have an account on the social media platform to view tweets. Patriot Media, controlled by Russian mercenary group Wagner's chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, will shut down, the director of one of its outlets said late Sunday (July 2).

Patriot Media, controlled by Russian mercenary group Wagner's chief Yevgeny Prigozhin, will shut down, the director of one of its outlets said late Sunday (July 2). Patriot Media, whose most prominent outlet was the RIA FAN news site, had been providing positive coverage of Prigozhin and Wagner. Taking to social media, RIA FAN's director Yevgeny Zubarev said, "I am announcing our decision to close down and to leave the country's information space." Zubarev did not give a reason for the decision. Praising Patriot Media's record, he said the group defended both Prigozhin and Russian President Vladimir Putin from attacks by the anti-Kremlin opposition. Patriot worked "against Alexei Navalny and other representatives of the opposition who genuinely tried to destroy our country," the director added. Media outlets linked to Prigozhin blocked Last Friday, Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Roskomnadzor blocked media outlets linked to Prigozhin, without elaborating. Local media reported that a troll factory allegedly used by the Wagner chief to influence public opinion in foreign countries was disbanded. Last weekend, Prigozhin led a short-lived rebellion against Russia's top military brass. And under a deal that halted the mutiny, Prigozhin was allowed to go into exile in Belarus and his fighters were given the choice of joining him, being integrated into Russia's armed forces, or returning home. Prigozhin accused of going 'off rail' On Sunday, a top Russian propagandist accused Yevgeny Prigozhin of going "off rail" after receiving billions in public funds, the news agency AFP reported. On his weekly television show, Dmitry Kiselev said "Prigozhin has gone off the rails because of big money," adding the Wagner chief could challenge the defence ministry, the state itself, and the president personally. Kiselev added that Wagner's operations in Syria and Africa gave Prigozhin a feeling of impunity that was later reinforced by his rag-tag forces' battlefield successes in eastern Ukraine. He claimed that Wagner had received more than $9.7 billion in state funds, but did not provide any evidence. Last week, Russian President Putin admitted that Moscow fully financed Wagner with the group receiving over 86 billion rubles from May 2022 and May 2023. United Airlines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Scott Kirby apologised for hopping on a private plane to get out of New York while thousands of the airline's passengers were stranded as it cancelled several flights.

United Airlines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Scott Kirby apologised for hopping on a private plane to get out of New York while thousands of the airline's passengers were stranded as it cancelled several flights. According to a report by the news agency Associated Press on Saturday (July 1), Kirby took the private flight from Teterboro, New Jersey, to Denver on Wednesday, when United Airlines cancelled 750 flights. In a statement issued by the airline, Kirby said that taking a private jet was a wrong decision because it was insensitive to the customers who were waiting to go back home. "I sincerely apologise to our customers and our team members who have been working around the clock for several days — often through severe weather — to take care of our customers,” Kirby added. He further promised to better demonstrate his respect for the dedication of the airline's team members and the loyalty of its customers. Nearly 3,000 United flights cancelled this week The Associated Press report on Saturday said that United Airlines cancelled nearly 3,000 flights this week, with the largest number at its Newark Liberty International Airport hub in New Jersey, which was hit by thunderstorms. Scott Kirby blamed the disruptions at the Newark airport on a shortage of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic controllers. In a note to employees, the CEO said that the FAA "frankly failed us" by reducing the rate at which planes could arrive and depart the airport. Kirby said that the cancelled flights left United planes and crews out of position, hobbling the airline when bad weather hit on Sunday. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, meanwhile, tweeted that airlines recovered from the storm except for United Airlines. Buttigieg shared a bar graph that compared United’s cancellation rate with the rest of the industry. According to FlightAware, the percentage of cancelled flights (of United Airlines) fell from 26 per cent on Wednesday to 18 per cent Thursday and eight per cent through Friday evening. A man accused of attacking Connecticut lawmaker Maryam Khan outside a Muslim prayer service first made lewd comments about her and then tried to kiss her, the news agency Associated Press reported on Friday (June 30) citing the police. The attack happened on Wednesday when Khan, a Democrat, was attending a service celebrating the Eid al-Adha holiday at Hartford’s XL Center arena with about 4,000 people. In a report, the police said that Khan was taking photographs with her family outside the arena when she was approached by Andrey Desmond who directed a sexual statement at her. Desmond then followed Khan when she tried to walk away from him, put his arm around her neck, and tried to kiss her, the report said. As she pulled away, Desmond slapped her across the face and let go of her neck, causing her to fall to the ground. Khan suffered minor injuries. Desmond was chased down and held by two bystanders. Attacker charged The police report said that Desmond was ordered held in lieu of a $250,000 bond at his arraignment Thursday on charges including misdemeanour assault, unlawful restraint, breach of peace, and interfering with police. He is due back in court on July 17. The incident remains under investigation. Maryam Khan, meanwhile, told cops that she did not know Desmond. In a statement, House Democratic leaders said they spoke to Khan and while she appreciated the support she was receiving, she also requested privacy. “It is disturbing to me that this happened on a holy day meant to be marked by peaceful prayer,” Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont said. Earlier, Farhan Memon, the chair of the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, urged law enforcement to investigate "a possible bias motive for this attack and to ensure the safety of the Connecticut Muslim community during the ongoing Eid al-Adha celebrations." “All too often we have seen American Muslims, or those perceived to be Muslim, targeted by hate because of their attire, race or ethnicity,” Memon said in a statement. The James Webb Telescope captured a stunning image of Saturn's rings. According to a blog by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) dated June 30, the image was captured on June 25.

The James Webb Telescope captured a stunning image of Saturn's rings. According to a blog by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) dated June 30, the image was captured on June 25. "Saturn itself appears extremely dark at this infrared wavelength observed by the telescope, as methane gas absorbs almost all of the sunlight falling on the atmosphere. However, the icy rings stay relatively bright, leading to the unusual appearance of Saturn in the Webb image," the blog post said. The image was taken as part of the Webb Guaranteed Time Observation program 1247- which included very deep exposures of Saturn, which were designed to test the telescope’s capacity to detect faint moons around the planet and its bright rings. What does the image reveal? As per the blog post, the image revealed details within Saturn's ring system along with several of the planet’s moons – Dione, Enceladus, and Tethys. The additional deeper exposures would allow NASA to investigate Saturn's fainter rings- including the G ring and the E ring. NASA says the rings surrounding Saturn are mostly broad, with a few singular narrow gaps between the broader rings. There is an innermost, thicker ring, and next to it is a brighter, wider ring. Travelling farther outward, there is a small dark gap before another thicker ring. In the thicker ring, there is a narrow faint band. There is then an outermost, faintest, thinnest ring, the space agency adds. The post further said that Saturn's atmosphere also showed surprising and unexpected detail. "Although the Cassini spacecraft observed the atmosphere at greater clarity, this is the first time that the planet’s atmosphere has been seen with this clarity at this particular wavelength (3.23 microns), which is unique to Webb," it added. The large, dark, diffuse structures in the northern hemisphere do not follow the planet’s lines of latitude, so this image is lacking the familiar striped appearance that is typically seen from Saturn’s deeper atmospheric layers. As nationwide unrest in France continues over the killing of a teenager of North African descent, protesters rammed a car into the mayor's home in Paris suburb on Sunday (July 2), injuring his family members. Taking to Twitter, Mayor Vincent Jeanbrun said that protesters rammed a car into his home, before "setting a fire". "My wife and one of my children were injured," Mayor Jeanbrun said. "My determination to protect and serve the Republic is greater than ever. I will not back down," he added. The incident comes as France saw sporadic violence following the funeral of 17-year-old Nahel who was shot by a police officer on Tuesday in the Paris suburb of Nanterre. His funeral was attended by hundreds of people. On Saturday, around 45,000 police personnel were on the streets with specialised elite units, armoured vehicles, and helicopters brought in to reinforce Paris, Lyon, and Marseille, the news agency Reuters reported. France riots: Protesters ram car into mayor's house, family injured

India's Supreme Court on Saturday (July 1) granted interim protection to social activist Teesta Setalvad in the 2002 Gujarat riots case. The interim protection of seven days was granted to Setalvad as her regular bail was rejected by the Gujarat High Court in a case of the alleged fabrication of evidence concerning the riots. According to a report by the news agency ANI, a three-bench judge of Justices BR Gavai, AS Bopanna, and Dipankar Datta stayed the order of the high court which asked Setalvad to surrender immediately.

"The single judge ought to have granted some time... We stay the order of the single bench for one week," the Supreme Court bench said, adding the judge was wrong in not granting the interim protection.

The apex court's bench took note of an earlier order passed in September last year which granted Setalvad interim bail.

The bench noted that while passing the September 2022 order, the earlier bench led by then Chief Justice of India (CJI) UU Lalit, took into account the fact that the petitioner was a woman who was entitled to special protection under Section 437 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, according to a report by LiveLaw on Saturday.

Taking this factor into account, the Supreme Court bench opined that the single bench of the Gujarat High Court ought to have granted some protection to Setalvad so that she could challenge the order before the apex court, the report said.

The report added that Setalvad's lawyer CU Singh, highlighted during the hearing that a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court in September last year granted interim bail to her till the high court decided her bail application. Singh said that no case was made out that Setalvad breached any condition of the interim bail, but no reasons were given to explain the rejection.

The lawyer also said that the chargesheet in the case was filed in September 2022 and the trial was yet to begin.

Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Gujarat state, urged the Supreme Court to mete out the same treatment to the social activist as received by any other ordinary citizen, the LiveLaw report further said

The bench responded by expressing its disapproval over the alarming urgency exhibited by the high court in asking Setalvad to immediately surrender.

Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Gujarat state, urged the Supreme Court to mete out the same treatment to the social activist as received by any other ordinary citizen, the LiveLaw report further said The bench responded by expressing its disapproval over the alarming urgency exhibited by the high court in asking Setalvad to immediately surrender.
