Macron upheld the freedom of expression. He had the chance to use secularism as an excuse to appease the minority, the nearly five million Muslims of France. However, Macron chose to steer clear of it. Instead, he mentioned that in France you have the freedom to blaspheme, and that blasphemy should not come in between freedom of press or the freedom of expression.

The launch of phase 1 and 2 trials represent an "important stage and another step towards the development of a potential vaccine to help us beat Covid-19," said Sanofi Pasteur executive vice-president Thomas Triomphe.

The vaccine combines leading technology from both Sanofi and GlaxoSmithKline.

A protein-based vaccine owned by Sanofi and used to treat influenza was paired with a GSK-developed add-on, known as an adjuvant, that boosts the recipient's immune response.

The tests are designed to evaluate the vaccine's safety, tolerability and immune response.

"Positive data will enable a prompt start of the pivotal phase 3 trial by the end of this year," Roger Connor, president of GSK Vaccines, said in reference to the final step before a vaccine is brought to market.

According to the World Health Organization, 75 countries had signed up to using the facility, which would ensure distribution of two billion doses by late July 2021.

India has hit China where it hurts the most. Earlier this evening, India banned 118 chinese mobile applications. New Delhi said that the apps were "prejudicial to sovereignty and intergrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order."

Among them is popular gaming app PUBG. The app is owned by Chinese conglomerate Tencent. It has over 175 million downloads in India.

While there are no confirmed numbers on the revenue generated from India, Sensor Tower data claims that India accounts for 24 per cent of PUBG's downloads.

Earlier, India had banned TikTok, Shein and 104 other Chinese apps. The recent ban takes the total to 224. That's the number of Chinese apps that have been thrown out of the Indian market.

India and China held brigade commander level talks earlier today. These talks were aimed at defusing tensions. It was the third such dialogue in the last three days. Eventhough each round lasted for over six hours, they have not really been fruitful.

Sources have told WION that today's talks too were inconclusive. India has told China to disengage from the north bank of Pangong lake. We have been told that talks are likely to take place tomorrow as well.

This one is from Washington. The United States has called out China for its border aggression.

The US State department has said that the Chinese Communist Party is trying to "repress its own people and bully its neighbours." Washington said that the only way to stop the Chinese provocation is by standing up to China.

A report published by US news said that the American intelligence assessment believes that China deliberately provoked India in southern Ladakh.

The report states that Beijing remains enraged that its local commander withdrew forces when a physical conflict appeared imminent.

Beijing has had no reaction on the app bans. However, speaking at a foreign ministery press conference, Chinese spokesperson Hua Chunying said that apparently it was India that crossed the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

China's tries to change status quo at Ladakh; India responds

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has sacked 74 more employees for having fake degrees, engaging in drug smuggling and for poor performance, according to a media report.

Of the 74 employees sacked by the national carrier last month, 27 were dismissed for fake degrees, 31 for unauthorised measures, six for not following rules, four for damaging property, one for involvement in drug trafficking and three for stealing government records, PIA officials told the Express Tribune newspaper.

Another two employees were removed for 'illegal activities'.

Apart from the sacked personnel, four employees were demoted, and 11 others were penalised for various disciplinary issues, the report said.

Now, the number of employees sacked in the airline in the last three months stands at 177, according to the report.

The PIA has taken up a so-called 'cleaning up' exercise of its staff following Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan's probe report into the May 22 Karachi plane crash.

PIA sacks 74 more employees for fake degrees and other malpractices

Pakistan on Wednesday rejected controversial American blogger Cynthia Ritchie's application for visa extension and directed her to leave the country within 15 days.

The Ministry of Interior took the decision after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asked authorities to make a final decision about the status of her stay in the country.

Radio Pakistan reported that the ministry asked Ritchie to leave the country in 15 days as her visa was not extended.

The IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah in June had sought an explanation from the ministry about the status and terms and conditions of the visa issued to Ritchie on a petition filed by an activist of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), asking it to explain if she was entitled to making political statements, the Dawn newspaper reported.

The petitioner, Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed, in the petition said that Ritchie is a foreign national and she has stayed in Pakistan without a valid visa. He also sought her deportation.

Ritchie had in June through a video clip posted on her Facebook page alleged that she was raped by Pakistan's former interior minister Rehman Malik and accused ex-prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani and another former minister of physically manhandling her in 2011.

The Islamabad's District and Session Court had directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in June to register a case against Ritchie for maligning Bhutto on social media.

On Tuesday, the deputy attorney general submitted a copy of a recent order passed by the interior ministry's secretary to the IHC in Ritchie's case. The court noted that the secretary had not made reference to any law or policy and appeared to have solely relied on Ritchie's statement.

The order is self-contradictory and in conflict with the previous order, the IHC observed.

The secretary conceded in his order that Ritchie was granted a work visa in violation of policy and laws.

The court observed that the interior secretary had been evasive in recording his findings regarding the crucial question: whether a foreign national visiting Pakistan on the basis of a business visa was entitled to give statements of a political nature.

The IHC, on Tuesday, also referred back for review the matter related to registration of a first information report against former interior minister Rehman Malik over allegations of rape by Ritchie.

Meanwhile, Ritchie, in a tweet, claimed that the interior ministry had rejected her application "under pressure".

"The MoI — under pressure best known to them — has for the first time, in my over 10+ years in Pakistan, rejected my visa application. No reason has been given. We have a right to file an appeal &amp; will do so. A higher forum must entertain my application &amp; upon merits grant visa," she said.

Ritchie has been living in Pakistan for more than a decade. She introduced herself as an adventure tourist who fell in love with Pakistan.&nbsp;
