The United Kashmir People's National Party (UKPNP) has launched a worldwide campaign in favour of Tanveer Ahmad, an activist and journalist arrested recently by local police and Pakistan's intelligence agencies.

Tanveer was tortured and arrested after his hunger strike and soon after he removed Pakistani flag from Dadyal in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) on August 14.

He is now being shifted to Mirpur Central Jail.

UKPNP activists organized a demonstration in Muzaffarabad and Kotli cities of PoK and shouted slogans against Pakistani secret agencies and local police. They demanded that Pakistani forces should leave from PoK.

The protesters said that Pakistan has forcefully occupied the territory and exploiting their resources. They accused both Pakistan and China for illegally constructing dams on the rivers and diverting the water which causes severe ecological imbalance.

In a statement UKPNP's exiled chairman Shaukat Ali Kashmiri strongly condemned the illegal detention of Tanveer Ahmed and demanded that Pakistan must release him immediately.

A large number of political activists and intellectuals in PoK and Gilgit Baltistan are under illegal detention of Pakistani forces and many of them are facing life term for raising voice against Pakistan's forceful occupation of their territory.

Facebook Inc has decided to conduct a study on its impact on the society during the US Presidential elections scheduled on November 03 this year.

The social media giant will be partnering with external&nbsp;researchers for this study, and is expecting to publish the research by the middle of 2021.

The researchers will be provided data of what these participants see, like and post on Facebook and Instagram related to the US elections. This will help study the behaviour and any change in behavioural pattern of the participants during the course of the US Presidential elections.

"Srinagar sector is located at Brein Nishat, Srinagar (J-K). It started functioning in 2005. Srinagar Sector has operational jurisdiction over three districts of J-K- Budgam, Ganderbal, and Srinagar and Union Territory of Ladakh," the CRPF said.

"It includes 2 ranges, 22 executive units, and 3 Mahila companies. Apart from it, Srinagar Sector has administrative control on Group Centre-Srinagar," the paramilitary force added.

Sinha will also be heading all operations involved in this sector.Besides this, 6 IPS officers and 4 senior cadre officers have also been transferred or inducted in CRPF. Pritam Singh, Singapore's Indian-origin politician scripted history on Monday when the city-state's Parliament conferred the duties and privileges to him as the country's first Leader of the Opposition.

Singh's Workers' Party won 10 parliamentary seats out of the 93 it contested in the July 10 General Election, making it the biggest opposition presence in Singapore's parliamentary history.

As the House began proceedings on Monday, one of the first orders of business was a ministerial statement by the Leader of the House Indranee Rajah on formally recognising Singh, 43, as the country's first Opposition leader.

Addressing Parliament, Singh underlined the need to focus on foreigners and their living conditions. He said how foreign workers are managed and accommodated needs to be improved.

“Their (foreigners) presence gives Singapore a vitality that keeps us economically relevant and also provides jobs and opportunities to our fellow Singaporeans. Many of us count the foreigners in our midst - regardless of race, language or religion - as our friends," Channel News Asia quoted Singh as saying.

“It is precisely because we need foreigners to help power our economy that we need to pay more attention to the Singapore worker... some of whom feel excluded from (the) opportunities created in their homeland," Singh said.

Leader of House Indranee, who is also of Indian-origin from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), said, "With more opposition MPs reflecting a 'strong desire among Singaporeans for a greater diversity of views in politics' as noted by the Prime Minister (Lee Hsien Loong) in his swearing-in speech.. It is timely and appropriate that the position of the Leader of the Opposition be more formally recognised."

The PAP has an absolute majority in the House with 83 elected members.

The House passed a motion to double Singh's speaking time from 20 minutes -- which is allotted to backbenchers -- to 40 minutes, the duration allotted to office holders.

Singh took the seat directly opposite Prime Minister Lee in the chamber.

This is similar to the practice in other countries that formally recognise the role of the Leader of the Opposition, Indranee pointed out.

Singh called on the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to publish the names of "recalcitrant" employers who do not give locals a fair chance in hiring and promotion.

The MOM had recently placed 47 companies on the Fair Consideration Framework (FCF) watchlist for discriminatory hiring practices.

A wealth management firm on the list was found to have almost three-quarters of its professionals from the same country, he said.

In another similar case, a bank was found to have two-thirds of its professionals from a particular country.

“The obvious question is, how did those two companies get to those stages without the MOM taking action?" he asked.

“MOM website states at one point and I quote: ‘MOM does not tolerate unfair hiring practices and employers who do not give locals a fair chance in hiring and promotion will face scrutiny and stiff penalties if found to have unfair hiring practices," he said.

Following the General Election, Prime Minister Loong had said Singh will be designated the Leader of the Opposition in the 14th Parliament, and that he would be given staff support and resources to perform his duties.

There have been de facto leaders of the Opposition in the past, such as former Singapore People's Party chief Chiam See Tong. However, this is the first time the position is being recognised officially.

During her address on Monday, Indranee, 57, reiterated that Singh will be given an office in Parliament, staff support and resources, as well as additional allowance.

The Leader of the Opposition will generally be given the right of first response among MPs to ask the lead question to ministers on policies, bills and motions in Parliament.

This will be at the discretion of the Speaker and subject to existing conventions, she said.

As Leader of the Opposition, Singh's duties include leading and organising the Opposition's parliamentary business. He may also take on other duties such as attending official state functions and taking part in visits and meetings with members of the Government and the public service.

He will also, from time to time, receive briefings by the government on confidential issues, and the matters to be briefed will be determined by the government, said Indranee.

These duties and privileges are based on the conventions and practices of other Westminster-style parliamentary systems, but reflect adaptations to Singapore's political and parliamentary context, she added.

"With greater diversity of views, we can expect more robust debate and, in some cases, sharper exchanges. But we should work to ensure that diversity does not lead to polarity, of the country or of the people," said Indranee.

"Experience elsewhere shows that unity in diversity is not an assured outcome. Our goal should be to harness this diversity of views in a constructive manner, so that we can as a Parliament better serve the interests of Singaporeans and Singapore."

According to press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, "currently the plans are to meet with local law enforcement and some business owners and he'll survey the damage."

However, the President completely ignored the grieving family and did not pay the family a visit. McEnany, on being questioned about this, said, "The president wants to visit hurting Americans."

The President was repeatedly urged by the Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and Mayor John Antaramian to not visit Kenosha, but the President decided to ignore the requests.

"No, because that -- Kenosha is something we did a good job on," Trump said when asked if he even considered the requests. "But I have to see the people that did such a good job for me and we are meeting with numerous people and we have tremendous support in the state of Wisconsin so I promise them when it all gets taken care of, we'll go."

The reason the visit was being objected to was that the local leaders and authorities felt his presence in the city could fuel violence and increase the tensions in the already-burning city. However, Trump said,&nbsp;"It will also increase enthusiasm and it could increase love and respect for our country, and that's why I am going because they did a fantastic job."

Tony Evers, however, said Trump's visit will redirect the resources "at a time when it is critical that we continue to remain focused on keeping the people of Kenosha safe and supporting the community's response."

"I am&nbsp;concerned your presence will only hinder our healing," he continued.

When asked why Trump has not reached out to the Blake family yet, Trump claimed that the family wanted lawyers to be present and he felt that was "inappropriate".

I thought it would be better not to do anything where there are lawyers involved. They wanted to have lawyers involved and I thought that was inappropriate so I didn't do that, but I did speak with the pastor -- was a fine man, wonderful man -- and I think we had a great talk, and I may at some point do that, but they did have a lawyer that wanted to be on the phone and I said no, that's inappropriate but I gave my best regards," Trump said.

Family's lawyer, Benjamin Crump, on this claim said,&nbsp;"When President Obama called Trayvon and Michael Brown's family, when Vice President Biden called George Floyd's family, their attorneys were present. We don't understand why it would be an issue with Trump's administration, and furthermore last time I checked they had a DOJ investigation that had been started in this matter, so it would be totally appropriate for family to have counsel on the phone," Crump said.

"They (White House) have their attorneys. Why shouldn't the family have their attorneys?" he continued.

Blake's family, too, has taken a step back and expressed their views on Trump not visiting the family.&nbsp;"Our family don't particularly want to have anything to do with him," Justin Blake, victim's uncle said. "We believe he incited this violence."

COGAT, the Israeli defence ministry unit that oversees civilian affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories, said in a statement that after "efforts to calm the situation", it would "resume the routine activity of the Kerem Shalom Crossing, including the entry of fuel products", starting Tuesday.

"In addition, the fishing zone of the Gaza Strip will be expanded to 15 nautical miles," it said.

Short telomeres is a sign of biological ageing at the cellular level. The study has revealed that consumption of junk food leads to ageing of these cells at a faster rate, in comparison to the bodies of the people who consume less or no junk food.

However, the researchers have added that considering that every human body has 23 pairs of chromosomes that have genetic code,&nbsp;Telomeres&nbsp;does not carry any genetic information, but is important&nbsp;for preserving the stability and integrity of chromosomes and, by extension, the DNA that all the cells in our body relies on to function.

The study was based on data received by almost 900 people aged 55 or older who had provided&nbsp;DNA samples in 2008 and provided detailed data about their eating habits every two years thereafter.

The 900 people included&nbsp;645 men and 241 women. Depending&nbsp;on their consumption of ultra-processed foods, the participants were divided into four groups. The high in-take group of people are more likely to have a family history of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and abnormal blood fats.

Compared to the group who ate the fewest ultra-processed foods, the other three showed an increased likelihood -- 29, 40 and 82 percent, respectively -- of having shortened telomeres.

Earlier studies had revealed that there are possible links between sugar-sweetened drinks, processed meats and other foods loaded with saturated fats and sugar, but the findings were inconclusive.

French pharma giant Sanofi said Tuesday that international Phase 3 clinical tests of its Kevzara drug for serious Covid-19 cases had proved inconclusive and it was halting the trial.

The Phase 3 test -- normally the last before official approval for use -- "did not meet the primary or secondary evaluation criteria compared with a placebo, and in both cases, compared with established hospital care," it said in a statement.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic late last year in China, it has claimed more than 800,000 lives and caused huge economic damage, sparking a global race to find a vaccine and effective treatments. Sanofi is one of many companies developing a vaccine but scientists are cautious in saying that at best, one may only be available by the end of this year for initial use.
