<p>The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has opened an investigation into allegations that China intimidated a member of parliament and his family. Beijing purportedly targeted Conservative MP Michael Chong, who is of Chinese origin, for his anti-China stance.&nbsp;</p>

<p>RCMP Commissioner Mike Duheme said he was made aware of the allegations only recently, despite the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) drafting a memo on the issue in 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"When we were made aware of it, we approached Mr Chong and began the investigation," said Duheme, adding, "Any matters that can be charged, any person that can be charged with the Criminal Code, we will do so."</p>

<p>Duheme said Chong's case is one of more than 100 investigations that the Canadian police have launched on alleged foreign interference in the country.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What did Chong do?</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, Chong has been a staunch supporter of Uyghur rights. In 2021, he also lent his support to a successful motion that said that the ongoing human rights abuse by China on its Uyghur minority accounts for genocide.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per the Canadian intelligence report from 2021 quoted by the country's Globe and Mail newspaper, China's intelligence agency requested details about Chong and his family. The intimidation effort was made in order to stomp down China's authority by making "an example" and also to "deter others from taking an anti-PRC position," the paper reported.</p>

<p>A&nbsp;Mississippi police officer who shot an 11-year-old Black boy in the chest after he called 911 for help has been suspended without pay effective immediately, an Indianola city official said Tuesday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>A motion was passed 4-1 at the&nbsp;Indianola Board of Aldermen meeting to suspend&nbsp;Sgt. Greg Capers without any pay. Capers, who is Black, shot and seriously injured Aderrien Murry in late May while responding to a domestic disturbance call.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“We were not made aware of the meeting or given the opportunity to speak or give our side.&nbsp;Let me be clear; the decision to change Officer Capers’ status from leave with pay to leave without pay is no reflection on the merit of the alleged criminal charges against him," said Capers' attorney&nbsp;Michael Carr.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>What happened with Aderrien?</strong></h2>

<p>On the day of the incident, Aderrien had been instructed by her mother Nakala Murry to call the police around 4 am when the father of one of her children showed up at her home. The man appeared irate and Murry felt the need to have law enforcement officers on the premise to diffuse the situation.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After the call, two officers, including Capers, responded and arrived at the house. While one kicked the front door before Nakala could open it, Capers yelled into the home and said anyone inside should come out with their hands up.&nbsp;</p>

Consequently,&nbsp;Aderrien was admitted at the&nbsp;University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he was placed on a ventilator and given a chest tube. The medical bulletin stated the boy suffered a collapsed lung, fractured ribs and a lacerated liver.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Family demands termination</strong></h2>

<p>Despite being suspended&nbsp;without pay, the family is demanding that Capers be terminated from police duty.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"He needs to be terminated and he needs to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said&nbsp;Carlos Moore, the attorney representing the family of the boy.&nbsp;</p>

<p>He said the phenomenon takes place because peanuts are denser than beer. It is one of the reasons why they sink down to the bottom of the glass when thrown in.</p>

<p>However, once down at the bottom, hundreds of tiny carbon dioxide bubbles form on the surface of the peanut, acting as buoys which drag them upwards with the characteristic pop sound as the bubble bursts. According to Pereira, each peanut, when down at the bottom, becomes what is called a "nucleation site".&nbsp;</p>

<p>“The bubbles prefer to form on the peanuts rather than on the glass walls,” explained Pereira.&nbsp;</p>

<p>An IndiGo flight from Lucknow to Mumbai was diverted to Udaipur and the pilot changed before it finally completed the original intended landing. The flight 6E 2441 departed from Lucknow airport at 11:10 am and was scheduled to land in Mumbai at 1:15 pm.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, the pilot failed to land the passenger aircraft after doing two go-arounds at the Mumbai airport.&nbsp;A report in HT citing sources said that Mumbai ATC diverted the flight due to the gusty winds brought by Cyclone Biparjoy, which is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on Thursday. Earlier this week, operations had to be temporarily halted at the Mumbai airport due to the cyclone.&nbsp;</p>

Earlier this week, operations had to be temporarily halted at the Mumbai airport due to the cyclone. While the airline claimed the pilot could not land the plane due to bad weather and had to be diverted, the passengers asserted that the pilot aborted two attempts in Mumbai and another in Udaipur before getting the plane safely on the tarmac. <p>Union Minister of State for&nbsp;Electronics &amp; Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar took to Twitter to post a rebuttal where he said Dorsey was attempting to "brush out a very dubious period of Twitter's history".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Twitter under Dorsey and&nbsp;his team were in repeated and continuous violations of India law. As a matter of fact they were in non-compliance with law repeatedly from 2020 to 2022 and it was only June 2022 when they finally complied," said Chandrasekhar.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The minister added that the government was attempting to remove misinformation traversing the social media platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"During the protests in January 2021, there was a lot of misinformation and even reports of genocide which were definitely fake. GoI was obligated to remove misinformation from the platform because it had the potential to further inflame the situation based on fake news," he added.</p>

<p>The farmers' protests started after the Modi government brought three controversial farm laws. Thousands of farmers from across the country camped in and around the capital city of Delhi for nearly a year, forcing the government to repeal the laws in November 2021.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dorsey made the claims during an&nbsp;interview to YouTube channel&nbsp;<i>Breaking Points</i>&nbsp;on Monday.</p>

<p>During the interview, Dorsey was asked how did the platform manage when powerful people&nbsp;came to them and demanded certain actions and if he faced any pressure from foreign governments.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“India for example, India is one of the countries which had many requests around farmers protests, around particular journalists which were critical of the government, and it manifested in ways such as ‘we will shut Twitter down in India’… ‘we would raid the homes of your employees', which they did; ‘we will shut down your offices if you don't follow suit’. And this is India, a democratic country," said Dorsey.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Tthe opposition parties were quick to react to Dorsey's claims with&nbsp;Congress's wings - the Youth Congress and National Students' Union of India releasing&nbsp;statements, criticising the government for playing with such heavy-handedness on the issue.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“BJP is the killer of democracy, it is being proved again and again.&nbsp;This is Jack Dorsey, former CEO of #Twitter Here he is saying “During farmer protest Indian govt pressurised us and said we will shut down Twitter, raid the homes of your employees if you don’t follow the suite"," said Neeraj Kundan, national president of the NSUI.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Turkey and Nigeria behaved in similar manner</strong></h2>

<p>Dorsey, who left Twitter last year after billionaire Elon Musk took over the company added that Turley under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan behaved in a similar way to India. Ankara reportedly threatened to shut down Twitter and later got embroiled in a legal battle with the microblogging platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Turkey is very similar (to India), like we had so many requests from Turkey. We fought Turkey in their courts and often won, but they threatened to shut us down constantly,”&nbsp;said Dorsey.</p>

<p>He added that Twitter could not put its employees on the ground in Nigeria, out of fear what the government might do to them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, it was under Dorsey's rule that Twitter briefly lost its 'intermediary' status in India after refusing to comply with the country's new IT rules.&nbsp;The US-based company, at the time, failed to employ a grievance officer, despite being granted repeated extensions.&nbsp;</p>
