Vladimir Putin told the conference of senior defence officials on Tuesday (Dec 19) that Russia is upgrading its nuclear arsenal amid its ongoing war against Ukraine and Western fears of nuclear conflict.&nbsp;

Putin said that Moscow is keeping its strategic forces at the highest level of readiness as the West wages a "hybrid war" against it.&nbsp;

"Due to the changing character of military threats and as new military and political risks arise, the role of the nuclear triad has significantly increased. It ensures a strategic balance of power in the world," Putin said as translated by the news agency Reuters.&nbsp;

"Overall, the level of modern weaponry in the strategic nuclear forces has been brought (up) to 95 per cent. When it comes to naval forces, it's almost (at) 100 per cent. By the end of the year, 15 Yars and Avangard missile complexes will be deployed for service," he added.&nbsp;

"We need to continue maintaining combat readiness of the strategic forces at the highest level. All the approved goals in this area will be reached without a doubt," he further said.&nbsp;

As per a report by the New York Post, an Australian bride considered imposing this fine after 10 guests cancelled at the last minute to her interstate wedding after sending their confirmations nearly six months ago.

The payment to the venue was non-refundable, as per the reports.

"It's now one week out from the wedding and I have already given the confirmed numbers to the venue and paid the outstanding amount, which was $12,426," the woman said while speaking on the "She's on the Money" podcast.

"Within the last week, ten guests, who had previously RSVP'd, said that they were coming and have now cancelled citing that it's too expensive for them to travel interstate," she added.

The woman further said that if she did not "scramble to cover their seats," she would be losing out on approximately $1,336.

"Is it reasonable to request that they cover these costs themselves?" she said.

The bride also said that the formal invites were sent to the guests in the month of January with the majority of attendees sending out confirmations in July.&nbsp;

She further shared messages from the people who did not make it to the wedding which read, "So sorry, I know we RSVP'd yes and the wedding is next week but we just can't afford to travel interstate at the moment."&nbsp;

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said on Monday (Dec 18) that the United States will continue providing arms and ammunitions to Israel. PM Modi's conversation with Netanyahu comes less than a week after India voted in favour of a United Nations resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

During the explanation of vote (EoV), India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj said India “welcomes” the fact that the international community had been able to find a “common ground” to address the situation in West Asia.

“Our challenge in this extraordinarily difficult time is to strike the right balance,” Kamboj added.&nbsp;

However, she stopped short of clarifying the reason for India’s decision to go against the US and Israel-backed resolution.

PM Modi speaks to Israel’s Netanyahu, urges for ‘early restoration of peace’

Thrill-seekers on Monday night (Dec 18), ignoring all danger warnings, reached at the site of a huge volcano eruption in Iceland, where boiling lava spewed into the sky. In the pictures, multiple cars can be seen queuing near the area to witness the rarely-seen eruptions.&nbsp;

The eruption started nearly 2.4 miles from the town of Grindavik at the Sundhjuka crater located on the Reykjanes peninsula. The eruptions started after multiple earthquakes forced thousands to evacuate the place last month as a state of emergency was declared by the country.

Speaking to Icelandic broadcaster RUV, scientist Magnus Tumi Gudmundsson, who reached the site on Tuesday morning (Dec 19) onboard a Coast Guard research flight, said that twice the amount of lava he had estimated had already spewed.

Gudmundsson added that the eruption is likely to continue with decreasing intensity but added that scientists have no estimate of how long it can last. "It can be over in a week, or it could take quite a bit longer," he said.

Even though the situation had created obvious dangers, the Ministry of the Environment had to issue multiple warnings to those who were trying to get close to the volcano. "Think about someone other than yourself and follow the guidelines of the public safety. Please," begged one spokesperson.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Icelandic Police said, "An eruption has begun. We ask people not to be in front of the responders and not to go in the direction of the eruption. It is important that roads and other things are as accessible as possible."

Defying the orders, the thrill-seekers were seen standing close to the plumes of lava which were spewing out of the volcano.

A tourist from the United States, Robert Donald Forrester III, said, "It's just something from a movie!" Speaking to local media, four boys named Joi, Halli, Stefan and Stefan said that they always try to witness eruptions in Reykjanes.&nbsp;

"We are trying to see the eruption. Unfortunately, we didn't get any closer. It's a hobby that we've had for four years, attending every single eruption, and we'll continue to do so," they said.

However, the feelings are mixed for local residents. "The town involved might end up under the lava," said Ael Kermarec, a French tour guide who was living in Iceland. "It's amazing to see but, there's kind of a bittersweet feeling at the moment," Kermarec added.

As per the Norwegian Meteorological Agency, nearly 100 to 200 cubic meters of lava has been spewing out per second, which is "many times more than in previous eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula in recent years".

Just after the eruption, Iceland's President Gudni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, said, "It is not clear what damage it can cause, but now we rely on our scientists as well as all those who need to do monitoring and other operations. Above all else, we protect human life but we do all the defense of structures to the best of our ability. I send warm greetings to the people of Grindavík and those who now work on the scene."
