The director of Gaza's Kamal Adwan hospital, Ahmed Kahlot, has admitted during an interrogation by Israel's internal security service, Shin Bet, that the hospital was converted into a military facility by Hamas militant group.

Kahlot, who claims to have been a lieutenant colonel in Hamas since 2010, revealed that the hospital housed Hamas offices, served as a base for operational activities, and even accommodated a kidnapped Israeli soldier at one point.

According to Kahlot, 16 members of the hospital staff, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, were Hamas operatives affiliated with the al-Qassam Brigades. He also mentioned the presence of members from the Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades within the hospital.

In a joint statement by Shin Bet and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), it was confirmed that Israeli forces entered Kamal Adwan hospital on December 12, detaining around 90 operatives and seizing weapons.

Some of those captured were also allegedly involved in the October 7 onslaught by Hamas in southern Israel, media reports said.

The deal also got a thumbs-up from UN refugee chief Filippo Grandi, who called it a "very positive step" in comments on X.

However, Hungary took no time in announcing its objections to the agreement, warning Brussels it was not in a position to dictate its terms to the member states.

In a massive blow to Republican frontrunner Donald Trump's campaign for the upcoming United States presidential election, the Colorado Supreme Court&nbsp;on Tuesday (Dec 19) barred him from appearing on the state’s ballots over his role in the January 6 attack on the US Capitol by his supporters.&nbsp;

The landmark decision that has deemed that the former president is not an eligible presidential candidate, has been placed on hold pending appeal until next month and does not apply to states outside Colorado.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign said it would “swiftly file an appeal” to the US Supreme Court, where conservatives hold a six to three majority. Three of them had been appointed by the former president.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the Colorado court rule?</h2>

The 4-3 ruling from the state’s top court makes Trump the first presidential candidate in US history to be deemed ineligible for the White House under a rarely used provision of the American Constitution that bars officials who have engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” from holding office.

While the ruling applies only to Colorado’s March 5 Republican primary, it could affect Trump’s status in the state for the general elections on November 5.&nbsp;

“We do not reach these conclusions lightly. We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us,” the justices wrote in their ruling.&nbsp;

They added, “We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”&nbsp;

The Colorado Supreme Court’s decision does not go into effect until at least January 4, 2024.

The recent verdict which invokes Section 3 of the US Constitution’s 14th Amendment for the first time to disqualify a presidential candidate also reverses an earlier ruling from a Colorado judge who said that the insurrection ban did not apply to presidents since it does not explicitly name them.

This was after the lower court had established that the former president had participated in the insurrection at the US Capitol by inciting his supporters to violence but said that as president, Trump was not an “officer of the United States” who could be disqualified under the amendment.

The advocacy group’s president Noah Bookbinder called the court’s decision “not only historic and justified, but is necessary to protect the future of democracy in our country.”

One of the videos posted on Facebook showed an Israeli woman begging Hamas terrorists not to kill her as she was taken hostage after the dastardly October 7 attacks. The other video showed the aftermath of an Israeli strike near al-Shifa hospital in Gaza. “The Board focused on protecting the right to the freedom of expression of people on all sides about these horrific events, while ensuring that none of the testimonies incited violence or hatred,” Michael McConnell, a co-chair of the board, said in a statement. “These testimonies are important not just for the speakers, but for users around the world who are seeking timely and diverse information about ground-breaking events," he added. While Meta reinstated the videos, soon after the quasi-independent board came into the picture, experts argue that the company's policy in policing the content leaves a lot to be desired. The social media giant uses an automatic moderation system which was seemingly responsible for deleting the two videos. Although the videos contained injured children and disturbing images, the board argued that Meta needs to maintain “freedom of expression and access to information".
