The United Kingdom police have offered up to 20,000 pounds (approx. $25,266) for information leading to the suspected chemical attacker Abdul Ezedi, on Sunday (Feb 4). This comes after&nbsp;an extensive nationwide search operation failed to locate the man who injured several&nbsp;people in south London after allegedly throwing a “corrosive substance” at them.&nbsp;

<h2>What did the UK police say?</h2>

The police announced a reward of up to 20,000 pounds for information about Ezedi, 35, the suspect in a chemical attack on a 31-year-old woman and her two daughters in south London’s Clapham.

The attack took place on Wednesday (Jan 31) which, apart from the family injured&nbsp;three others as well as three police officers who went to help.&nbsp;

On Sunday (Feb 4), Metropolitan Police Commander Jon Savell said that the laboratory analysis of the substance used for the attack showed “a very strong concentrated corrosive substance, either liquid sodium hydroxide or liquid sodium carbonate”.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the detectives working on the case said that the people who know where he is have yet to come forward and warned that anyone found assisting Ezedi would be arrested. They also believe that there are people concealing his location, reported the British media.&nbsp;

Savell also thanked the public for the dozens of calls already received and said, “Your help is critical.” He added, “I must warn anyone who is helping Ezedi to evade capture, if you are harbouring or assisting him then you will be arrested.”

In its recent updates about the case, the Met police also said that the suspect was last seen leaving Tower Hill Underground station on Wednesday at around 9:33 pm (local time).&nbsp;

According to British media reports, Ezedi arrived in the UK from Afghanistan in a lorry in 2016 and was granted refugee status by 2022 on this third attempt, apparently on the basis that he had converted to Christianity.

In 2018, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault and exposure charges but was not imprisoned.&nbsp;

The 31-year-old woman, known to Ezedi, is in a critical but stable condition at a hospital and is said to have experienced life-changing injuries.&nbsp;

What I would say, and this is a really important point is what you saw on Friday night was just the first round. There will be additional response actions taken by the Administration against the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and these groups that they are backing."&nbsp;

The couple, identified as&nbsp;Michael Nektalov and Miryem Yushanaye, alongside their five kids were returning from an Aruba vacation in February 2021 when they were allegedly kicked off the plane. According to&nbsp;Nektalov, another Jewish family was also pushed out of the New York-bound flight.&nbsp;

The court papers reveal that the couple was dressed according to Jewish religious customs. While Miryem wore a head covering, her husband sported a long beard and yarmulke and&nbsp;also spoke in Hebrew at times.&nbsp;

The couple said they knew trouble would ensue after JetBlue employees&nbsp;gave them "disdainful and dirty looks" soon after boarding the flight. Their hunch came true as just before the takeoff, the plane taxied back to the gate.&nbsp;

When Miryem asked one of the flight attendants what was causing the delay, she was told that her "mask had slipped off the nose". Afterwards, she was removed from the plane,&nbsp;while a different Jewish family were also asked to leave.

When Nektalov protested the decision, a JetBlue employee allegedly shouted that if the famulu did not "get off the plane, the entire plane would have to be deplaned".&nbsp;

“In that moment, I felt as though we were in Nazi Germany, and that we were being isolated, vilified, and herded for disposal,” Nektalov said in the January&nbsp;26 filing.

As the controversy snowballed, a&nbsp;JetBlue spokesman said the company had not yet reviewed the lawsuit.

“We do not tolerate discrimination of any kind at JetBlue. We take any claims such as these seriously and will work to fully understand the facts of what happened in this event,” said spokesperson&nbsp;Derek Dombrowski.

At least 28 people, including nine women and a child,&nbsp;were killed after Ukrainian shelling struck the bakery in the Russian-controlled city of Lysychansk on late Saturday (Feb 3), said the local Russian-backed officials.&nbsp;

They also claimed that the attack was conducted using the United States-supplied High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and expected swift and “unconditional condemnation” from the international community.&nbsp;

Emergency workers worked overnight to look for survivors in the rubble of what remained of the shattered Adriatic Restaurant on Moskovska Street, where according to the Russian officials, a bakery had been set up for civilians.&nbsp;

Leonid Pasechnik, the Russian-installed head of the Luhansk region said that the bakery was crowded with civilians when it was struck. The Russian emergency ministry said 10 people had been pulled from the rubble alive.&nbsp;

“Search operations continue on the site of the collapsed bakery...28 people, including a child, have died,” the Russian emergency situations ministry said in a post on Telegram. According to officials, 18 men, nine women and one child were among those killed.&nbsp;

Additionally, four more people were in an “extremely grave condition,” said the ministry. Ukraine is yet to comment on the attack and allegations by Russia.&nbsp;

Pasechnik has declared a day of mourning in the Russian-held region and vowed retaliation against Ukraine.&nbsp;

<h2>Zelensky visits troops</h2>

The Ukrainian president visited the frontline village of Robotyne which was liberated late August.&nbsp;

“It’s an honour to be here today. To support the warriors and award them. They face a difficult and critical mission to repel the enemy and defend Ukraine,” said Zelensky, in a statement after visiting Zaporizhzhia region.

A video posted on Facebook showed the Ukrainian president in uniform meeting soldiers in a dark room that looked like an underground cellar.&nbsp;

“I have the great honour to be here today, to reward you, because you have such a difficult and decisive mission on your shoulders to repel the enemy and win this war,” he told the troops.&nbsp;

The visit also comes amid reports that the Ukrainian government had informed the White House that it plans to fire the country’s army chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi who is overseeing the war against Russian occupation forces.

<h2>New mayor appointed</h2>

During his visit, Zelensky also announced the appointment of the mayor of an occupied city who was once abducted by Russia as the new head of the country’s southern embattled Zaporizhzhia region, said his office on Sunday (Feb 4).&nbsp;

“The head of state introduced the newly appointed head of the Zaporizhzhia regional state administration Ivan Federov, who has been the mayor of the now temporarily occupied Melitopol since December 2020 and was in Russian captivity,” said the Ukrainian president’s office in a statement.&nbsp;

Melitopol is a city around 130 kilometres south of Zaporizhzhia, which has been under Russian occupation since the first weeks of their invasion in 2022. Fedorov, 35 was abducted in March 2022 by Russian troops after they entered his city and he refused to cooperate with them.&nbsp;

Fedorov replaced the previous governor Yuriy Malashko. “My goal is for all people who really want to return home to be able to do so as soon as possible,” said the 35-year-old as per the presidential office.&nbsp;

On Saturday, the militaries of the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) launched strikes against 36 Houthi targets at 13 locations in Yemen, the third such joint operation in response to repeated attacks on Red Sea shipping by the Iran-backed rebels.

Palestinian militant group Hamas said on Sunday (Feb 4) that the wave of American and British strikes in Yemen would bring "further turmoil" to the Middle East. On Saturday, the militaries of the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) launched strikes against 36 Houthi targets at 13 locations in Yemen, the third such joint operation in response to repeated attacks on Red Sea shipping by the Iran-backed rebels. Citing a statement from Hamas, a report by the news agency AFP said that the Palestinian militant group called the bombing of Houthi targets "a blatant assault on the sovereignty of a sister Arab country, and an escalation that will drag the region into further turmoil." The Houthis did not announce any deaths in these strikes. According to the Pentagon, the strikes hit buried weapons storage facilities, missile systems, launchers, and other capabilities the Houthis used to attack Red Sea shipping. Houthis vow response after strikes Also on Sunday, Houthi rebels vowed a response to the American and British strikes. "The strikes will not pass without a response and consequences," Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Sarea, the news agency Reuters reported. US Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland and the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee (SFRC) said he only approved the sale of MQ-9 drones to India after months of “painstaking discussions” and assurances that New Delhi remained committed to investigating an alleged plot to kill Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. While SFRC chair Republican Michael McCaul and ranking member Democrat Gregory Meeks gave a nod to the proposed deal, Cardin stalled it, albeit briefly. “My approval was the result of months of painstaking discussions. While I’m fully aware of the significance of this sale, for US national security and strategic interests,” Cardin said. "I have consistently conveyed my concerns regarding the timing of this sale to administration officials in light of the alleged murder-for-hire plot involving Indian officials to attempt to assassinate an American citizen on US soil," he added. Cardin's statement came after the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on Thursday (Feb 1) delivered the required certification notifying US Congress of the sale of 31 of these Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The deal involving MQ-9B drones comes at an estimated cost of $3.99 billion. Under the proposed deal, New Delhi will receive 31 High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAVs, of which the Navy will get 15 SeaGuardian drones while the Army and AIr Force will receive eight each of the land version. The procurement of these drones by India comes as the country is looking to enhance its maritime security. This also comes at a crucial juncture as recent attacks on Red Sea shipping by Houthi rebels have raised concerns globally and exposed the vulnerability of maritime trade routes to threats. It was in November last year that Washington alleged that an Indian citizen named Nikhil Gupta attempted to kill Pannun. Gupta allegedly undertook the mission after he was assured by an Indian government official directing him that a purported Gujarat case against him would be taken care of.
