President Donald Trump cast doubt on Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado’s ability to lead the country, saying she does not have the backing or respect needed when asked by reporters about the country's future prospects.
“I think it’d be very tough for her to be the leader. She doesn’t have the support or the respect within the country,” Trump said. “She’s a very nice woman but she doesn’t have the respect.”
Machado, a prominent opposition figure and Nobel Peace Prize winner, has been viewed by some as a potential transitional leader following recent U.S. actions in Venezuela
