Prayuth Chan-ocha, the prime minister of Thailand, announced his departure from politics but said he would remain in office for the time being. The statement comes nine years after a military coup that gave him the presidency. Only 36 of the 500 seats in the house were gained by the United Thai Nation, led by the former army chief, on May 14.
