Telangana: Maoist party top leader Barsa Deva alias Sukka, including 15 others, surrender

In a major breakthrough against left-wing extremism, Telangana Police claim to have arrested Barsa Deva, a top commander of the Maoists’ People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA). Acting on precise intelligence, security forces tracked Deva and 15 armed Naxalites across forest regions bordering Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, leading to their capture and recovery of a large cache of weapons.
Deva was a key figure in the banned CPI (Maoist) and a contemporary of slain Maoist leader Hidma. His arrest is being seen as a significant blow to the PLGA, which once formed the backbone of the Maoist organisation’s military wing.
