Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli military strike, is reported to be laid to rest in the holy city of Mashhad, according to Iranian state and local media. Mashhad, in northeastern Iran, is Khamenei’s hometown and one of the country’s most sacred cities, home to the revered Imam Reza Shrine — a major pilgrimage site for Shia Muslims.
