Damascus court delivers verdict against Bashar al-Assad | Syria sentences ousted ruler to death
A criminal court in Damascus has sentenced ousted Syrian president Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia. Following a landmark trial examining the atrocities of Syria's nearly 14-year civil war, the court convicted Assad, his brother Maher al-Assad, and several former security officials on charges including premeditated murder, torture, arbitrary detention, and crimes against humanity.
