Tensions are rising between Lithuania and Belarus after Lithuania announced plans to shoot down smuggler balloons crossing its border from Belarus.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has condemned the move, calling it a “crazy scam” and accusing Lithuania of waging a “hybrid war” that threatens China’s economic interests.
Lithuania’s Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene defended the decision, citing repeated disruptions to air traffic caused by the balloons and the growing security risks along the border.
