<p>Videos of the incident showed ambulances and fire tenders on site and smoke billowing from the building that housed the facility. It is unclear how many persons were within the facility or whether production was underway when the incident took place. However, it is said that there is no loss of life as a result of this fire.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Personnel working at Pegatron told WION that there are more than 9,000 of them involved in iPhone assembly at the Chengalpattu factory&nbsp;near Chennai and that production activity had not been carried out on Monday. At the time of writing, it is unclear whether the personnel resumed work on Tuesday. It is understood that the factory works round-the-clock from Monday to Saturday and they have a holiday on Sundays. The 24-hour workday is split into three shifts- A (6am-2pm), B (2pm-10pm) and C (10pm-6am).&nbsp;</p>

<p>In December 2021, more than 150 women workers at the Foxconn facility in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu had <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/they-help-make-iphone-but-heres-where-they-stayed-inside-foxconn-chennai-offsite-dorm-room-441487">fallen ill after consuming the meals</a> provided at the staff dormitory. <p>Amid geopolitical tensions with China, American tech giants, including Apple have been looking to move more of their assembly facilities to India and southern Indian states have been taking the lead in luring the investors, predominantly Taiwanese contract manufacturers. Apple also pins great hope on the young and aspirational Indian customer who wants to flaunt tech luxury. In line with this, Apple CEO Tim Cook visited India earlier this year and also opened Apple-owned retail outlets in Mumbai and Delhi. Both of these outlets are said to be doing brisk business. Two major incidents in two years hit Chennai's Apple iPhone assembly facilities

<p>OpenAI's ChatGPT is all set for a major update, which will allow the chatbot to have voice conversations with users and interact using images. The update will move it closer to popular artificial intelligence (AI) assistants like Apple's Siri, Amazon's Alexa, Samsung's Bixby, and others.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a blog post on Monday (September 25), OpenAI said that the voice feature "opens doors to many creative and accessibility-focused applications".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We are beginning to roll out new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT. They offer a new, more intuitive type of interface by allowing you to have a voice conversation or show ChatGPT what you're talking about," the post read.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company said that voice and image will provide the users with more ways to use ChatGPT in day-to-day life. For instance, one can take a picture of a landmark while travelling and have a live conversation with the chatbot about what's interesting about it.&nbsp;</p>

Chinese social media 'soaked in heavily racist tone' to target India-made iPhones

<p>China is apparently working on ways to bypass restrictions on lithography machines, which are used in the production of microchips, a report by The South China Morning Post mentioned.&nbsp;</p>

<p>British regulators on Friday dropped their objections to Microsoft's attempt to buy video game firm Activision Blizzard, the maker of "Call of Duty", paving the way for the US tech titan to close one of the biggest technology acquisitions ever.</p>

<p>Microsoft launched its blockbuster $69-billion takeover in January last year, an acquisition that would make it the world's third-largest gaming company by revenue, but it faced stiff scrutiny from US regulators and the UK's Competition and Markets Authority.</p>

<p>The CMA blocked the deal in April over fears it would damage competition in the fast-growing cloud gaming sector, where games are bought virtually and players can use a variety of devices rather than just consoles.</p>

<p>Microsoft eventually submitted a new bid that the CMA said in a statement on Friday had made important changes and "opens the door to the deal being cleared", adding that it would consult on the "remedies" before making a final decision.</p>

<p>Both the companies involved in the deal praised the CMA's change of heart.</p>

<p>Microsoft vice chairman and president Brad Smith, who had labelled the initial rejection in April as "probably the darkest day" of the firm's time in the UK, called Friday's statement a "positive development".</p>

<p>He said Microsoft would aim to get approval to close the deal by October 18.</p>

<p>Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick, whose company also makes the popular games "Diablo" and "Candy Crush", said the UK regulator's announcement was "a significant milestone for the merger".</p>

<p>Analysts said the takeover now looked like a shoo-in and all sides were able to claim victory -- the regulator showed its teeth and forced a concession and the firms got their deal over the line.</p>

<p>If the deal goes through, Microsoft will muscle in to form a "big three" in the sector -- just behind China's Tencent and Japan's Sony.</p>

<h2>- 'Real value' -</h2>

<p>Microsoft, which makes the Xbox console and already has a stable of games under its belt including "Minecraft", "Elder Scrolls" and "Fallout", is already the dominant player in the cloud-gaming world -- its Game Pass service claims 25 million subscribers.</p>

<p>The original deal would have seen hugely popular Activision games including "Call of Duty", "Overwatch" and "World of Warcraft" added to its cloud roster, which was too much for the UK regulator to stomach.</p>

<p>Under the new deal, Microsoft has agreed it would not take control of the cloud portion of Activision's business, which will be transferred to French studio Ubisoft for 15 years.</p>

<p>CMA chief executive Sarah Cardell said Microsoft had taken the "necessary steps" but she added it would have been "far better" if the firm had made the proposal during the initial investigation.</p>

<p>"This case illustrates the costs, uncertainty and delay that parties can incur if a credible and effective remedy option exists but is not put on the table at the right time," she said.</p>

<h2>- EU green light -</h2>

<p>Aside from the concerns over cloud gaming, regulators had also worried that the initial deal would have allowed Microsoft to make Activision's games exclusive to its Xbox.</p>

<p>Microsoft and Sony, which had previously tried to block the Activision deal, agreed in July to keep releasing "Call of Duty" on the PlayStation.</p>

<p>The European Union cleared the deal in May while the US antitrust regulator recently paused its attempt to block the buyout following a setback in court.</p>

<p>Sophie Lund-Yates, lead equity analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, said the essential building blocks of the deal remained in place, making it a win for Microsoft.</p>

<p>"The small scale of the cloud components means the assets being taken over are still of real value to Microsoft," she told AFP.</p>

<p>Sorrel Beynon of FTI Consulting added that both sides would feel they "achieved the desired outcome".</p>

<p>Troopers found Paxson's body in his overturned and partially submerged Gladiator truck. They said that there were no barriers or warning signs along the washed-out roadway.</p>

<h2><strong>What does the lawsuit say?</strong></h2>

<p>According to the lawsuit,<strong>&nbsp;</strong>several people had notified Google Maps about the collapse (of the bridge) in the years leading up to Paxson's death and urged Google to update its route information. The lawsuit named several property management companies that it claimed were responsible for the bridge and the adjoining land.</p>

<p>The North Carolina State Patrol, meanwhile, said that the bridge was not maintained by local or state officials, and the original developer's company had dissolved.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The report said that Tuesday's court filing included email records from another Hickory resident who used the map's “suggest an edit” feature in September 2020 to alert the company that it was directing drivers over the collapsed bridge.</p>

<p>A mail from Google in November 2020 confirmed that the company received the resident's report and was reviewing the suggested change. However, the lawsuit said that Google took no further action.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Elon Musk has floated the idea of turning X, formerly Twitter, into a subscription-based platform during a recent conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.</p>

<p>"[We’re] moving to a small monthly payment for use of the X system," Musk told Netanyahu.</p>

<p>He mentioned the possibility of implementing a small monthly fee to use the X system as a way to combat bots.</p>

<p>For iPhone, China is its third largest market. Performance of iPhone 15 is going to be closely watched especially after former rival Huawei's launch of new smartphone late last month. The smartphone comes with an advanced chip.</p>

<p>Accepting the diktat by the European Union (EU), Apple on Tuesday (September 12) during its annual 'Wonderlust' event, announced that its new iPhone lineup was returning to&nbsp;a universal charging port.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"USB-C has become a universally accepted standard. So we're bringing USB-C to iPhone 15," said Kaiann Drance, Apple's vice president of iPhone Marketing&nbsp;at a launch event.</p>

<p>"Now the same cable can charge Mac, iPad, iPhone, and even the new AirPods Pro with USB-C on the case," the company added.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Up until now, users were charging their iPhones&nbsp;using the company's proprietary&nbsp;Lightning Port technology while Android-based devices used USB-C chargers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>However, it was in October last year that the EU Parliament&nbsp;approved new rules that make sure a universal charging port is introduced for all electronic gadgets (mobile phones, tablets, cameras, e-readers, earbuds and other devices) by 2024.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The ruling was prompted after complaints from both iPhone and Android about having to switch to different chargers whenever changing devices.</p>

<p>According to Apple executives, the main camera&nbsp;is 48-megapixels and uses pixel binning to combine images into a high-resolution 24-megapixel image. The camera also uses machine learning language to automatically shift the camera into portrait mode.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The index also says that India is the country with better internet affordability. Indians reportedly have to work 1 hour 48 minutes every month in order to afford a fixed broadband line and 44 minutes 22 seconds to afford an access to mobile internet.</p>

<p>"The ground network consists of control centre, precise timing facility, range and integrity monitoring stations, two-way ranging stations, etc," it adds.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NavIC offers two services: Standard Position Service (SPS) for civilian users and Restricted Service (RS) for strategic users. The navigation technology's coverage area includes India and a region up to 1,500 kilometres beyond the Indian boundary.&nbsp;</p>

ChatGPT losing hype already? Website traffic drops for third consecutive month

<p>The British government on Wednesday attempted to reassure Big Tech companies by giving guarantees to instant messaging platforms over fears that they may be forced to monitor encrypted messages for harmful content.</p>

<p>A number of tech companies, including Meta-owned WhatsApp and Signal had expressed concern at a proposed law that may compel them to stop end-to-end encryption of private communication.</p>

<p>But junior culture, media and sports minister Stephen Parkinson said the government had "no intention... to weaken the encryption technology used by the platforms".</p>

<p>"We have built-in strong safeguards into the bill to ensure that users' privacy is protected," he told a debate in the upper chamber House of Lords.</p>

<p>The Online Safety Bill is currently making its way through the British Parliament. It has been introduced to crack down on harmful content</p>

<p>Encryption is a feature of many instant messaging platforms but Parkinson said companies would not be forced into digital snooping of users.</p>

<p>He added that UK communications regulator Ofcom "cannot require companies to use proactive technology on private communications in order to comply with these duties".</p>

<p>"Ofcom can only require the use of a technology, a private communication service, by issuing a notice to tackle child sexual exploitation and abuse content."</p>

<p>Instead, it will only be able to make the platforms look at private messages "where technically feasible... in detecting only child sexual abuse and exploitation content".</p>

<p>The Financial Times interviewed experts who said that such technology could be years away.</p>

<p>The heads of WhatsApp, Signal and Wire, among others, wrote an open letter in April and underlined the privacy of their services.</p>

<p>"We don't think any company, government or person should have the power to read your personal messages and we'll continue to defend encryption technology," they said.</p>

<p>WhatsApp has previously refused to comply with the legislation. This had triggered speculation that the messaging platform would leave the UK.</p>
