The incidents of gun violence in the US are not showing signs of stopping. Just days after the tragic shootout at a school in Texas and within hours of incidents of shooting in New York and Oklahoma, police and local media in Wisconsin said that a shooter wounded multiple during a funeral.

"At 2:26pm there were multiple shots fired at Graceland Cemetery. There are victims but unknown how many at this time. The scene is still active and being investigated," the Racine Police Department said on Twitter.

As per reports from the local media five people gathered for funeral were wounded. The funeral was for Da'Shontay L. King Sr, a man who was killed by police in March.

Gun violence is rampant in the US. Possession of guns is something that gets constitutional protection. Opponents of free availability of guns lobby for gun controls but gun rights supporters, mainly from the Republican Party oppose such moves politically.

The debate assumes national significance whenever there is mass shootout. But assertive opinions are expressed from both sides almost every time.

News agency AFP reported on Friday (June 3) that a cross-party group of US senators were in talks on a narrow package of firearms controls

Nine senators have been meeting this week to discuss a response to the mass shootings that have appalled the nation, projecting optimism over the prospects for modest reforms.

The Wisconsin Republican leading the state’s partisan inquiry into the 2020 election results on Monday took his most public step forward yet, warning election clerks that they would face subpoenas if they did not cooperate and defending the investigation’s legitimacy by declaring that he was not seeking to overturn President Joe Biden’s victory in the state.

“We are not challenging the results of the 2020 election,” Michael Gableman, a conservative former state Supreme Court justice overseeing the investigation, argued in a video posted on YouTube. The inquiry, he said, “may include a vigorous and comprehensive audit if the facts that are discovered justify such a course of action.”

The five-minute video released by Gableman comes nearly three months after Robin Vos, the Republican speaker of the Wisconsin Assembly, assigned him to look into former President Donald Trump’s false claims that the state’s election was stolen from him.

The Republicans’ continuing effort to re-examine the 2020 results in Wisconsin comes as Trump allies elsewhere have gone to great lengths to undermine Biden’s victory. Arizona Republicans are near the end of a monthslong review of ballots in Maricopa County; Pennsylvania Republicans last week approved subpoenas for driver’s license and partial Social Security numbers for every voter in the state; and 18 states, including Texas this month, have passed laws this year adding new voting restrictions.

In recent weeks, Trump-allied conservatives in Wisconsin have shown public frustration at the pace and transparency of Gableman’s investigation. This month, a group led by David A. Clarke Jr., a former Milwaukee County sheriff who has been a prominent purveyor of false claims about the election, held a rally at the state Capitol in Madison to protest what it argued was insufficient devotion by Gableman and the state’s Republican leaders to challenging the 2020 results.

Gableman said Monday that his investigation would require the municipal officials who operate Wisconsin’s elections to prove that voting was conducted properly. He said local clerks would be required to obey any subpoenas he might issue.

Election clerks in Milwaukee and Green Bay ignored previous subpoenas issued by the Republican chairwoman of the Assembly’s elections committee for ballots and voting machines. Vos had declined to approve those subpoenas.

“The responsibility to demonstrate that our elections were conducted with fairness, inclusivity and accountability is on the government and on the private, for-profit interests that did work for the government,” Gableman said. “The burden is not on the people to show in advance of an investigation that public officials and their contractors behaved dishonestly.”

Gableman added that he did not plan to release information to the public on a regular time frame but would do so when he found it appropriate.

“My job as special counsel is to gather all relevant information and, while I will draw my own conclusions, my goal is to put everything I know and everything I learn before you, the citizen, so that you can make up your own mind,” he said.

The chairman of the Wisconsin Democratic Party, Ben Wikler, said the Gableman video was evidence that state Republicans were at odds with one another over how far the election investigation should go.

“Robin Vos and his far-right ‘investigator’ Michael Gableman are clearly upset that the most extreme fringe doesn’t think they’re going far enough to entertain conspiracy theories,” Wikler said. “They’re wasting taxpayer funds to serve the political interests of a small group of Republican insiders who want to erode the freedom to vote. It’s a sham, a waste of time and money, and it’s damaging our democracy.”

A shooting Saturday at Wisconsin casino left three people dead including the gunman, and one person seriously injured, police said early Sunday.

After he had shot three other people in or near the restaurant, police shot the gunman, Brown County Sheriff's Lt. Kevin Pawlak said at a news conference just after midnight.

Pawlak said investigators believe the gunman was targeting a specific person he was angry at, but the person wasn't at the Oneida Casino at the time. The gunman "decided to still shoot some of the victim's co-workers or friends, it appears," Pawlak said.

Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul tweeted shortly before 10 pm that the scene “is contained. There is no longer a threat to the community.” He gave no other details and an agency spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to a message.

The Oneida Casino in Green Bay tweeted Saturday there was an active shooter at the casino. Spokeswoman Bobbi Webster said later that “individuals” had been shot, but she didn't have information on how many of their conditions, and didn't know whether the shooter was still at large.

Webster cited Oneida police and casino security for her information. She said people were being cleared out of the casino and nearby properties.

“We do not know where the individual was shooting, or (where) individuals were shot,” Webster said.

The Oneida Casino is operated by the Oneida Nation. Webster said the casino is connected to a large hotel and conference centre, the Radisson, also owned by the Oneida Nation.

Gambler Max Westphal said he was standing outside after being evacuated for what he thought was a minor issue.

“All of a sudden we hear a massive flurry of gunshots — 20 to 30 gunshots for sure,” Westphal told WBAY-TV.

“We took off running towards the highway ... There had to have been 50 cop cars that came by on the highway. It was honestly insane.”

The Oneida tribe's reservation lies on the west side of the Green Bay area.

It was honestly insane.” The Oneida tribe's reservation lies on the west side of the Green Bay area. (With inputs from agencies)

While the world is struggling to get access to coronavirus vaccine, a pharmacist was caught purposely ruining nearly 500 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccine in a hospital in Wisconsin, US.

An employee of Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, Wisconsin, the pharmacist deliberately removed vaccine from the refrigerator to spoil the doses being saved for locals of the area. Nearly 57 vials of vaccine were found left out of cold storage earlier this week, officials reported.

Each vial contains 10 doses and nearly 60 doses were already administered by the time the officials realised the vaccine had been kept unrefrigerated long enough for the vaccine to become ineffective. Following this, the remaining 500 doses were thrown out by the hospital staff.

The pharmacist has since been fired for the blunder, although the reason behind this sabotage has not been made clear yet by the authorities or the pharmaceutical company.

While the doses were thrown out, Dr. Jeff Bahr, Aurora Health Care Medical Group president has reported that Moderna Inc has assured that any recipients of the refrigerated vaccine shot will not be facing any side effects.

The people who were administered with the ineffective doses of the Modern vaccine are being notified and will be called in again for another shot of the same vaccine. This will also lead to a further delay for nearly 570 people who were scheduled for the shot in the coming days. First priority will now be given to the people who were administered the ineffective shot.

While Bahr said there was no evidence that the pharmacist tampered with the doses in any other way rather than placing them out of the refrigerator, Grafton police said in a statement that the pharmacist "knew the spoiled vaccinations would be useless and that people who received the vaccinations would think they had been vaccinated against the virus when in fact they were not."

The pharmacist had earlier called it an 'inadvertent error' in the initial stages of the investigation, but later admitted to deliberately placing the doses out of the refrigerator, hospital officials reported.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has refused to hear US President Donald Trump's lawsuit attempting to overturn his loss to Democrat Joe Biden in the battleground state.

In addition, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has certified Democrat Joe Biden as the winner of the state's presidential election.

"Today I carried out my duty to certify the November 3rd election, and as required by state and federal law, I've signed the Certificate of Ascertainment for the slate of electors for President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris," Evers said in a statement.

Trump had asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to disqualify more than 221,000 ballots in the state's two biggest Democratic counties, alleging irregularities in the way absentee ballots were administered.

In doing so, the top court has sidestepped a decision on the merits of the claims and instead ruled that the case must first wind its way through lower courts.

The defeat on a 4-3 ruling was the latest in a string of losses for Trump's post-election lawsuits. Judges in multiple battleground states have rejected his claims of fraud or irregularities.

His lawsuit echoed claims that were earlier rejected by election officials in those counties during a recount that barely affected Biden's winning margin of about 20,700 votes.

Trump's attorney Jim Troupis said he would immediately file the case in circuit court and expected to be back before the Supreme Court very soon.

Trump had argued that there wasn't enough time to wage the legal battle by starting with a lower court, given the looming December 14 date when presidential electors cast their votes.

Trump's lawsuit challenged procedures that have been in place for years and never been found to be illegal. He claimed there were thousands of absentee ballots without a written application on file.

Trump also challenged absentee ballots where voters declared themselves to be indefinitely confined.

The Wisconsin Supreme Court in March ruled that it was up to individual voters to determine their status.

The court late Thursday also declined to hear a lawsuit brought by a Wisconsin resident, Dean Mueller, that argued that ballots placed in drop boxes are illegal and must not be counted.

The Democrat contestant Joe Biden is leading the race in the states Michigan and Wisconsin, according to a survey. Donald Trump, however, is trying to match the increasing number in North Carolina and Arizona.

With just two days left for the US election, opinion polls and surveys are calculating the chances of the two leaders in different states and demographics. The two leaders, Donald Trump and Joe Biden have been busy campaigning in the few key states.

The survey has been conducted by the Amerian media organisation CNN and concludes that Joe Biden is leading in the two states (Michigan and Wisconsin) and leading a close competition in North Carolina and Arizona — all these four states were winning territories of Donald trump in 2016 US elections.

As per the survey, Biden is leading the race among the people who have already voted, either in-person or through the in-mail voting system. However, Trump is leading by a huge margin among people who plan to vote on November 03. While Biden is leading the race, for now, this margin could help Trump win the election, which would be a repeat of the 2016 US election.

The figures from Arizona show Biden leading with a support figure of 50 per cent while Trump is following closely with a support sample of 46 per cent. In Wisconsin, a state that supported Trump in 2016, the President is trailing behind with 44 per cent support, and Biden is leading with 52 per cent votes. Michigan, on the other hand, is a state with one of the highest margins between the two candidates with Biden leading with 53 per cent and Trump struggling to diminish the widening ga with just 41 per cent supporters.

However, the scenario changes tad bit in North Carolina where Biden and Trump are closely rushing towards the finish line with 51 and 45 per cent votes. The gap is expected to fill in faster than expected once people start voting on the election day.

The voter demographic in state of Michigan and Wisconsin mainly comprises of white nationals, which is not the case for Arizona or North Carolina. Interestingly, the states with a larger White population have Joe Biden in the lead, and the states with lesser White population have a very little margin between the two candidates. This has come as an unexpected turn as the White voter bank has usually voted for Republicans, especially with the recent civil unrest due to the social movements such as Black Lives Matter.

White voters with college degrees in both Michigan and Wisconsin have lent nearly 61 per cent support to the Democrat candidate, and the state of North Carolina is lagging with 51 per cent and Arizona with 50 per cent supporters giving a chance to Biden. Trump, on the other hand, is winning among the white voters without a college degree with a winning number of 64 per cent supporters.

The voting pattern in the women of the four states is quite similar with nearly 55 per cent women supporting Biden, and abandoning Trump. However, men in North Carolina and Arizona are lending their support to trump, and Michigan and Wisconsin men are balancing between the two leaders, for now.

One major issue that has driven people away from trump in these four states, which he had won in the 2016 elections, is their disapproval with the way the President handled the coronavirus pandemic in the US. Nearly 51 per cent people showed their disapproval in Arizona and 56 per cent in Michigan.

The survey results have been observed through random samples of roughly 1,000 adults in each state who were interviewed on phone between October 23 and 30. "Results among likely voters have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points in Arizona, 3.8 points in Michigan, 4.0 points in North Carolina and 3.9 points in Wisconsin," CNN said.

Joe Biden to visit Kenosha after Trump's controversial trip

A roundtable event was held in Kenosha, Wisconsin on Tuesday to discuss about the police violence that has led to deaths of several unarmed African-American people in the US.

However, the only African-Americans present in the room were also not given enough chances to speak their minds, courtesy the US President Donald Trump.

The roundtable was organised for a discussion on public safety, and the two African-American pastors were the only ones from the community seated at the dais. the two pastors, James Ward and Sharon Ward, were there to represent Julia Jackson, the mother of Jacob Blake — the Black man who was shot seven times in the back by a Kenosha police officer.

The pastors were asked by reporters if they believed that police violence was systemic. When the question was clearly directed towards the Wards, Trump waste no second in answering for them, without any intimation, and said, "I don't believe that. I think the police do an incredible job and I think you do have some bad apples."

"You do have the other situation, too, where they're under tremendous pressure and they don't handle it well. They call it choking and it happens," he added.

During the discussion, he also stated that he has had several interactions with the US police and those interactions were enough evidence for him to understand that the US police was not unjustly violent towards the African-American community, and that the police violence was not a systematic issue.

"No, but I don't believe that at all," he told the reporter. "I've met so many police. I have the endorsement of like, so many, maybe everybody."

Trump was also asked if he thought racism, in general, was a systemic problem, with the reporters putting forth examples of non-violent and peaceful protests. However, trump was quick to dismiss those by saying, "Well, you know you just keep getting back to the opposite subject. We should talk about the kind of violence we've seen in Portland and here and other places."

Throughtout the discussion, the pastors were given close to no chance to speak, even when the reporters tried telling Trump that the questions were directed towards the Wards.

'Police did an incredible job': Trump cuts off Black pastors when asked about police violence

After a massive civil unrest in the Wisconsin city over shooting of another Black man by the US Police, the US President Donald Trump visited the city to meet the "hurting Americans". However, the President did not meet the man who was shot, or even his family.

Trump travelled to Kenosha, Wisconsin without paying heed to several Democratic leaders who had urged the President not to visit the city while the city was observing protests after an African-American man Jacob Blake was shot seven times at point blank range in the back by the local police.

According to press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, "currently the plans are to meet with local law enforcement and some business owners and he'll survey the damage."

However, the President completely ignored the grieving family and did not pay the family a visit. McEnany, on being questioned about this, said, "The president wants to visit hurting Americans."

The President was repeatedly urged by the Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and Mayor John Antaramian to not visit Kenosha, but the President decided to ignore the requests.

"No, because that -- Kenosha is something we did a good job on," Trump said when asked if he even considered the requests. "But I have to see the people that did such a good job for me and we are meeting with numerous people and we have tremendous support in the state of Wisconsin so I promise them when it all gets taken care of, we'll go."

The reason the visit was being objected to was that the local leaders and authorities felt his presence in the city could fuel violence and increase the tensions in the already-burning city. However, Trump said, "It will also increase enthusiasm and it could increase love and respect for our country, and that's why I am going because they did a fantastic job."

Tony Evers, however, said Trump's visit will redirect the resources "at a time when it is critical that we continue to remain focused on keeping the people of Kenosha safe and supporting the community's response."

"I am concerned your presence will only hinder our healing," he continued.

When asked why Trump has not reached out to the Blake family yet, Trump claimed that the family wanted lawyers to be present and he felt that was "inappropriate".

I thought it would be better not to do anything where there are lawyers involved. They wanted to have lawyers involved and I thought that was inappropriate so I didn't do that, but I did speak with the pastor -- was a fine man, wonderful man -- and I think we had a great talk, and I may at some point do that, but they did have a lawyer that wanted to be on the phone and I said no, that's inappropriate but I gave my best regards," Trump said.

Family's lawyer, Benjamin Crump, on this claim said, "When President Obama called Trayvon and Michael Brown's family, when Vice President Biden called George Floyd's family, their attorneys were present. We don't understand why it would be an issue with Trump's administration, and furthermore last time I checked they had a DOJ investigation that had been started in this matter, so it would be totally appropriate for family to have counsel on the phone," Crump said.

"They (White House) have their attorneys. Why shouldn't the family have their attorneys?" he continued.

Blake's family, too, has taken a step back and expressed their views on Trump not visiting the family. "Our family don't particularly want to have anything to do with him," Justin Blake, victim's uncle said. "We believe he incited this violence."

Defending the gunman

During a media briefing, he also defended the actions of a 17-year-old boy who had opened fire during the protests. “He was trying to get away from them ... And then he fell and then they very violently attacked him,” Trump said at a briefing. “I guess he was in very big trouble ... He probably would have been killed.”

On the third night of protests, Kyle Rittenhouse, shot three protesters, two fatally, with an assault rifle. He has been charged as an adult, although he is 17-year-old, with two counts of first-degree homicide and one count of attempted homicide.

“In America, we will never surrender to mob rule, because if the mob rules, democracy is indeed dead,” Trump added.

Joe Biden, Trump's opponent in the upcoming November 3 Presidential elections protested against Trump's statement, and said, “Tonight, the president declined to rebuke violence. He wouldn’t even repudiate one of his supporters who is charged with murder because of his attacks on others. He is too weak, too scared of the hatred he has stirred to put an end to it."

"We believe he incited this violence." Defending the gunman During a media briefing, he also defended the actions of a 17-year-old boy who had opened fire during the protests. “He was trying to get away from them ... And then he fell and then they very violently attacked him,” Trump said at a briefing. “I guess he was in very big trouble ... He probably would have been killed.” On the third night of protests, Kyle Rittenhouse, shot three protesters, two fatally, with an assault rifle.
