<p>A new study has found presence of mRNA from Covid vaccines in the milk of breastfeeding mothers upto 45 hours after they received the vaccine. The study, reported by The Epoch Times, has been published in journal Lancet. Seventy per cent of breast milk samples analysed in the study were found to contain the mRNA from the vaccines.</p>

<p>The study was reportedly published in the Lancet earlier this month.</p>

<p>It was found during the study that although the detected mRNA was largely fragmented, it retained 12 to 25 per cent of its original integrity. The researchers have said that more studies are required to ascertain the minimum amount of mRNA that may trigger immune response in newborns.</p>

<p>Breast milk samples were collected from 13 healthy postpartum, lactating women before as well as after the vaccination. The samples after vaccination were collected at least twice daily for five days. Seven women provided samples after first and second vaccine doses. This means that there were 20 total vaccine exposures and 154 breast milk samples.</p>

<p>Researchers then examined vaccine mRNA in whole breast milk and breast milk extracellular vesicles.</p>

<p>Extracellular vesicles (EV) are released by cells. They are small delivery vehicles carrying biomolecules such as lipids, proteins, microRNA, noncoding RNA, messenger RNA and DNA. Large amount of EVs are present in breast milk and they regulate gene expression, infant growth and development and immune function.</p>

<p>The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval for a groundbreaking vaccine, Abrysvo, for pregnant women to&nbsp;safeguard infants from birth up to 6 months of age against lower respiratory tract disease (LRTD) and severe LRTD caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), the federal health agency said in a press release.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Notably, this is the first vaccine of its kind. Earlier&nbsp;in May, the federal agency approved Abrysvo for the prevention of LRTD caused by RSV in individuals aged 60 years and older.</p>

<p>Director of the FDA’s Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, Peter Marks, said, “RSV is a common cause of illness in children, and infants are among those at highest risk for severe disease, which can lead to hospitalisation".</p>

<h2><strong>What is RSV?&nbsp;</strong></h2>

The approval of Abrysvo offers a vital preventive measure for pregnant women to shield infants from the potentially life-threatening effects of RSV.</p>

<p>Abrysvo is intended for administration during the gestational age of 32 to 36 weeks and involves a single-dose injection into the muscle. However, it is noteworthy that pregnant women who were highly susceptible to preterm birth were generally kept out of Abrysvo's clinical studies, the FDA press release said.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Abrysvo side-effects&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Certain side effects were noticed among pregnant women who received the vaccine. These included pain at the injection site, headache, muscle pain, and nausea. Additionally, a rare but significant hypertensive disorder, pre-eclampsia, occurred more frequently among those who received Abrysvo compared to the placebo.</p>

<h2><strong>Results of the study&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>Within 90 days after birth, Abrysvo showcased an 81.8 per cent reduction in severe LRTD risk and a 69.4 per cent reduction within 180 days after birth. For pregnant individuals at 32 to 36 weeks gestational age, Abrysvo led to a 34.7 per cent reduction in LRTD risk and an impressive 91.1 per cent reduction in severe LRTD risk within 90 days after birth.</p>

<p>Looking at the 180-day mark, Abrysvo demonstrated a 57.3 per cent reduction in LRTD risk and a 76.5 per cent reduction in severe LRTD risk compared to the placebo.&nbsp;</p>

US: FDA approves first vaccine for pregnant women to safegaurd infants from RSV

<p>British pharmaceutical company&nbsp;GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has opened up a front against American pharma giant Pfizer by filing a lawsuit in a Delaware court on Wednesday (August 2). GSK&nbsp;has alleged that Pfizer infringed on its patent for the Respiratory Syncytial Cirus (RSV) vaccine.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the lawsuit, GSK said the New York-based company's RSV vaccine, Abrysvo, infringes four of its patents related to the antigen its shots use to fight the respiratory disease.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Upon information and belief, Pfizer knowingly uses GSK’s claimed inventions in Abrysvo without permission,” GSK wrote in the complaint.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to the complaint, GSK noted that its vaccine was in development seven years prior to Pfizer's. The company is now demanding a jury trial and seeking monetary damages, including lost profits and royalties resulting from Pfizer’s alleged patent infringement. It has requested the judge to prevent Pfizer from manufacturing and&nbsp;selling its vaccine in the US.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The company argued that intellectual property protections are the "foundation of research-based companies' ability to drive innovation," and that the lawsuit should not affect GSK's ability to launch its vaccine Arexvy.</p>

<h2><strong>Race to secure the market</strong></h2>

<p>Notably, both companies have been competing in the tight race to tap into the RSV vaccine market which could easily exceed $10 billion by 2030, according to experts. Both companies received approval for their vaccines from the&nbsp;US Food and Drug Administration in May for use in adults over age 60.</p>

<p>Both are the first vaccines approved to prevent RSV which causes an estimated 14,000 annual deaths in adults 65 or older in the US alone.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pharma giant Moderna and its partner Merck said on Wednesday (July 26) that they had begun taking in patients for a late-stage study testing their personalised skin cancer vaccine in combination with immunotherapy Keytruda.</p>

<p>Mid-stage study data obtained from 157 patients had yielded that the vaccine combination reduced the risk of recurrence of the disease or death by 44 per cent in patients with melanoma. It is the most deadly form of skin cancer</p>

<p>The current trial is expected to involve more than 1000 patients from over 25 countries. First patients are being enrolled in Australia.</p>

<p>The companies are testing the vaccine in melanoma patients whose tumors were surgically removed before being treated with either the drug-vaccine combination or Keytruda alone.</p>

<p>The vaccine is tailored for each patient to generate T-cells, a key part of the body's immune response, based on the specific mutational signature of a tumor.</p>

<p>Merck's Keytruda therapy is so-called checkpoint inhibitor. The therapy is designed to disable a protein called programmed death or PD-1. This protein helps cancer to evade the immune system.</p>

<h2><strong>The competition</strong></h2>

<p>In addition to Moderna and Merck, rival companies BioNTech SE and Gritstone Bio are also working on cancer vaccines based on mRNA technology.</p>

<p>For decades, scientists have been chasing the dream of vaccines against cancer. There have not been many successes.</p>

<p>According to industry experts, mRNA vaccines, which can be produced in as little as eight weeks, paired with drugs that rev up the immune system may lead to a new generation of cancer therapies.</p>

<p>The late-stage trial's main goal is to measure amount of time the patients live without the cancer returning when treated with the combination, compared to treatment with Keytruda alone.</p>

<p>The duration of the study would depend on when that occurs, the companies said.</p>

<p>The FDA&nbsp;examined data from a clinical trial in which Arexvy was given to 12,500 people, while the same number received a placebo.&nbsp;It says immunisation decreased the likelihood of getting severe RSV-associated LRTD by 94 per cent&nbsp;and RSV-associated LRTD by 83 per cent.</p>

<p>The injection site soreness, exhaustion, muscular pain, headaches, and joint stiffness are the most often reported side-effects of the immunisation.</p>

<p>“With this vaccine, Americans over the age of 60, and particularly those with underlying health conditions like COPD, asthma or congestive heart failure, will have a vaccine to help protect against potentially serious outcomes from RSV,” Dr John Kennedy, the president of the American Medical Group Association, said a statement.</p>

<p>The 65,683 active cases currently comprise 0.15 per cent of the total COVID-19 cases. The health ministry's website stated that officials have recorded the national COVID-19 recovery rate at 98.67 per cent.</p>

<p>The Indian Medical Association (IMA) stated that there has been an increase in Covid cases because of people's complacent behaviour, which includes lax use of masks to cover faces in public spaces.</p>

<p>“Many people lowered their guard against coronavirus, and the low rate of testing could be the driving force behind the surge,” the association said. “Rising cases reflect that Covid has not gone, it is still around, and so we need to take precautions,” it added.</p>

<p>In the wake of the surge in Covid cases, the Serum Institute of India said that the manufacturing of Covishield – which is the vaccine for coronavirus – is being restarted to ensure that people get additional boosters.</p>

<p>"We will auction off the best sperm and eggs, including of course my own sperm," he stated, adding that they will allow trading in digital currencies and will keep it open to all ethnicities and races.</p>

<p>It is still unclear if the auction will go ahead following Guo's arrest earlier this month, who is facing federal charges of defrauding thousands of followers online by some $1 billion.</p>

<p>However, his planned sale has created a buzz on Gettr, where the supporters of the tycoon are calling it a "new era for humanity".</p>

<p>"Giving unvaccinated sperms or eggs not only is an honourable way to gain wealth but also will save the future of humanity," stated a Gettr post endorsing Guo.</p>

<p>The queen then ingests it and fragments of the vaccine are deposited in her ovaries, the Business Wire report said and pointed out that having been exposed to the vaccine, the developing larvae have immunity as they hatch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Dr Anette Kleiser, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Dalan Animal Health said that the company's vaccine is a breakthrough in protecting honeybees. "We are committed to providing innovative solutions to protect our pollinators and promote sustainable agriculture.
