Israel is saying that either you demolish your house yourself, or else I will."

"Israel killed Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh. She was killed by the bullet of a sniper... the sniper recognised that he did kill her. Apart from Palestinian nationality, she was also an American national," he added.

He blamed Israel for attacking Muslim and Christian holy sites. He accused Israel of being an 'apartheid regime', and asked "Why isn't Israel being held accountable by the United Nations?"

Abbas said Israel has committed heinous crimes against Palestinians and destroyed an ample number of Palestinian villages. He accused Israel of having "deliberately committed these massacres."

The most recent was against Gaza. "The New York Times, a US-based newspaper reported that 67 children were killed in this attack. We want to know why did Israel kill them?,"&nbsp;Abbas said.

He said he would like to ask Israel to take charge of this massacre and apologize to the Palestinians. He asked the international community and the International Criminal Court (ICC) to hold Israel accountable for the crimes it has committed.

The Palestinians are still living under Israeli occupation. Referring to the Oslo accords, Abbas told the assembly, "We do not want to be the only party to be respecting the agreements signed in 1993... those agreements are not followed anymore...Israel was the first to violate them...until when shall we be the only party to respect it?"

Additionally, he claimed that Azerbaijan had shelled infrastructure and facilities for civilian use deep within the borders of his nation, forcing more than 7,600 people to flee their homes and leaving three civilians dead and two missing.

Two battles between <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/concerned-russians-trying-to-escape-putins-ukraine-war-call-up-to-avoid-conscription-518766">Armenia</a> and Azerbaijan, one in the 1990s and the other in 2020, were fought over Nagorno-Karabakh, an area of Azerbaijan that is home to Armenians.

"An agreement with the Palestinians, based on two states for two peoples, is the right thing for Israel's security, for Israel's economy and for the future of our children," Lapid said, adding that any agreement would be conditional on a peaceful Palestinian state that would not threaten Israel.

In his speech, Lapid alleged that 'anti-Israel movement' was spreading fake news against Israel.

PM Lapid especially slammed Iran which he said was conducting 'orchestra of hate' against Israel. Though he did not explicitly repeat Israel's known position against revival of nuclear deal with Iran, he made clear his opposition for Iran acquiring nuclear weapons.

"If Iran gets nuclear weapons, it will use it," said Lapid.

Nuclear deal with Iran was struck by the US and other world powers in 2015. But former US president Donald Trump unilaterally pulled US out of the deal in 2018. Negotiations are now on to restore the deal. Israel is fiercely against revival of the deal.

Truss also said that UK will be spending 3 per cent of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on defense from 2030 – a prominent promise that she made during her campaign ahead of the elections&nbsp;

"In the face of rising aggression, we have shown we have the power to act and the resolve to see it through. But this must not be a one-off,” Truss said during her speech.&nbsp;

This must be a new era in which we commit to ourselves, our citizens, and this institution that we will do whatever it takes - whatever it takes to deliver for our people and defend our values," she added.&nbsp;

Truss blamed Russia once again for the problem plauging most of Europe and promised that they will not be cutting off “toxic power and pipelines” from authoritarian regimes.&nbsp;

“We will ensure we cannot be coerced or harmed by the reckless actions of rogue actors abroad." &nbsp;

WION: What's the deal with Russia on oil and energy imports? Is Pakistan looking at it to bring supply and prices under control?

Ismail: During the previous government, Pakistan wrote a letter to the Russian government requesting oil supply but they were never replied to. But now I see that there is a slight change in the Russian position, and we are going to explore these options of importing LNG and other gas from Russia, including pipeline gas. Although that's a long-term project it is something Russia has expressed an interest in.

WION: How much is political instability a factor in Pakistan's current state of affairs, given that Pakistan has hardly or never seen a full 5 term government? Friendly countries from the gulf also have now begun putting conditions, is that not an uneasy sign of lack of trust?

Ismail: Friendly countries from the gulf have helped in getting the IMF programme going and have expressed a lot of sympathies and have also provided material help to fight the floods.

WION: Do you have a target to bring Pakistan financially on track? Can you quantify in years or months for the people to feel assured?

Ismail: The economy will come back on track, but the floods of course have affected it quite negatively, but we'll be okay.

“A permanent member of the United Nations Security Council invaded its neighbour, attempted to erase a sovereign state from the map. Russia has shamelessly violated the core tenets of the United Nations Charter,” Biden said.

During his speech, Biden declared his unequivocal support for Ukraine.

"We stand with Ukraine and against Russian aggression. Period!" he said.

Biden's speech at UNGA came just hours after Putin <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/ukraine-crisis-russias-vladimir-putin-announces-partial-military-mobilisation-518283">ordered a partial military mobilisation</a> in Russia for Ukraine war. Putin also made a thinly veiled threat of nuclear attack.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) denounced Putin's threat as 'reckless'.

"A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought," Biden said referring to Mutually Assured Destruction doctrine.

The doctrine states that a nuclear attack from one country will result a similar attack on the country by the other and in effect, both countries will get utterly destroyed causing immeasurable impact on global climate with direct effect on immediate human survival worldover.

In the run up to the Ukraine invasion and even later, Putin had claimed that Russia was threatened. Biden refuted this claim in his UNGA speech and said that no one had threatened Russia.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. In a speech that outlined a number of environmental issues plaguing the planet, Guterres said that the “polluters must pay” for the damage caused by natural disasters in a number of countries.

“Today, I am calling on all developed economies to tax the windfall profits of fossil fuel companies,” Guterres said in a speech to the UN general assembly on Tuesday, according to AFP.

&nbsp;“Those funds should be redirected in two ways – to countries suffering loss and damage caused by the climate crisis and to people struggling with rising food and energy prices,” he added.

According to the plan put forward by Guterres, the revenue that will be generated from the taxes can be used for getting early warning systems and provisions for countries who are generally prone to major natural disasters. He described it as a “climate-related and justice-based” global tax.

“Let’s have no illusions. We are in rough seas. A winter of global discontent is on the horizon, a cost-of-living crisis is raging, trust is crumbling, inequalities are exploding, and our planet is burning,” he told the assembly. “We have a duty to act and yet we are gridlocked in colossal global dysfunction. The international community is not ready or willing to tackle the big dramatic challenges of our age.”

He said, "Narendra Modi,&nbsp;Prime Minister of India, was right when he said the time is not for war. It is not for revenge against the West....It is the time for a collective time for our sovereign equal states to cope together with challenges we face."

Earlier, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan lauded the remarks by PM Modi, calling them "statement of principle on behalf of what he believes is right and just". He said the remarks are&nbsp;"very much welcomed by the United States and for the Indian leadership, which has longstanding relationships in Moscow, from the very top all the way through the Russian government, to continue to reinforce that message that now is the time for war to end."

As part of annual India-Russia summit that alternates between the two countries, Indian PM is expected to travel to Russia for the summit this year. Meanwhile, Jeffrey Prescott, deputy US ambassador to the UN questioned the credibility of the world body if the atrocities were not addressed. “How these atrocities are addressed goes ultimately to the credibility of that system, to the credibility of our international system itself. It’s deeply disheartening to see a country that has been so central to the creation of the modern UN system, and enjoys its status as a permanent member of the Security Council, so profoundly violating its commitments,” said Prescott. "Despite promises from world leaders to never allow famine again in the 21st century, famine is once more imminent in Somalia. Around the world, 50 million people are on the brink of starvation in 45 countries," they said.

The NGOs pointed out that an estimated 19,700 people were dying of hunger every day. This translates to one person dying every four seconds.

"It is abysmal that with all the technology in agriculture and harvesting techniques today we are still talking about famine in the 21st century," Mohanna Ahmed Ali Eljabaly from the Yemen Family Care Association, one of the letter's signatories, said in the statement.

"This is not about one country or one continent and hunger never only has one cause. This is about the injustice of the whole of humanity," he said.

"We must not wait a moment longer to focus both on providing immediate lifesaving food and longer-term support so people can take charge of their futures and provide for themselves and their families."
