"This is a matter that has to do with international law...we want the war to stop immediately, and of course the position of the IAEA is that this facility is a Ukrainian facility," Grossi told reporters.

The IAEA has expressed its concern&nbsp;regarding the structural integrity of the plant as both Russian and Ukrainian forces continue to fight in the nearby areas. Grossi, along with a delegation from the organisation, will soon be travelling to Moscow to discuss the situation with Russian authorities.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian army said that they have recaptured a vast amount of territory in Kherson, one of the regions where referendums were held in favour of joining Russia but the recent gains by the Ukraine forces have once again proved their uncertain position in the country.

"The Armed Forces of Ukraine have liberated more than 400 square kilometres of the Kherson region since the beginning of October," Ukrainian southern army command spokeswoman Natalia Gumeniuk told reports in the official briefing, according to a report by Reuters.

“They have for many years promoted the right to criticise power and protect the fundamental rights of citizens. They have made an outstanding effort to document war crimes, human rights abuses and the abuse of power. Together they demonstrate the significance of civil society for peace and democracy,” said the Norwegian Academy.&nbsp;

Belarusian human rights activist: Ales Bialiatski

Reiss-Andersen then went on to address the press about the jailed Belarusian human rights activist Ales Bialiatski. He was one of the initiators of the democracy movement that emerged in Belarus in the mid-1980s and devoted his life to promoting democracy and peaceful development in Belarus, she said.&nbsp;

In 1996, Bialiatski founded the organisation Viasna which means Spring, with time they had evolved into a broad-based human rights organisation. According to the academy, the group has “documented and protested against authorities’ use of torture against political prisoners”.&nbsp;

Notably, his win comes at a time when the country has been facing historic crackdowns, this led to Reiss-Andersen also calling for his release from prison so that he can visit Oslo for the award ceremony that will take place on December 10, later this year. 
 
She added, “Government authorities have repeatedly sought to silence Ales Bialiatski. Since 2020, he is detained without trial.”

However, despite these hardships, Bialiatski has not “yielded an inch in his fight for human rights and democracy” in the ex-Soviet nation, said the academy. This is also not the first time Ales Bialiatski has been arrested, he was once detained for three years between 2011 and 2014 and again in 2020.

Subsequently, in 2021 he was jailed yet again and was charged with tax evasion. According to several critics of the Belarusian government, these charges are a veiled tactic used by the government to silence dissent in the country. Bialiatski has also helped many jailed demonstrators and their families.&nbsp; 
 
The sweeping crackdown has been by the country’s longtime authoritarian leader, Alexander Lukashenko, after huge anti-government demonstrations, last year. This makes Bialiatski the fourth person to receive a Nobel peace prize while in jail or detention, including Liu Xiaobo of China (2010), Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar (1991) and Carl von Ossietzky of Germany (1935).&nbsp;

Russian human rights group: Memorial &nbsp;

One of the two organisations that were given this honour was the Russian human rights group, Memorial. The organisation was founded in 1987 by activists in the former Soviet Union, “who wanted to ensure that the victims of the communist regime’s oppression would never be forgotten,” said Reiss-Andersen. She added that the organisation was based on the notion that, “confronting past crimes is essential in preventing new ones”.&nbsp;

The Russian human rights organisation was dissolved by the Kremlin last year in December, prior to the ongoing invasion of Ukraine. According to reports, they allegedly broke a law which requires certain civil society groups to register as foreign agents. Notably, the founders of the organisation also included a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, a dissent, and physicist, Andrei Sakharov who died in 1989.&nbsp;

Since then the organisation has been at the forefront of “efforts to combat militarism and promote human rights and government based on rule of law,” said the academy. In the early 1990s after the fall of the Soviet Union, an International Memorial was created in the former soviet countries, they reportedly documented political repressions and rehabilitated those repressed under communism. Subsequently, they built a database of victims of Joseph Stalin's (1937-38) Great Terror and Gulag camps.&nbsp;

The academy also cited the Chechen wars when the Memorial “gathered and verified information on abuses and war crimes perpetrated on the population by Russian and pro-Russian forces.” Reiss-Andersen also spoke about Natalia Estemirova, the head of Memorial’s branch in Chechnya, who was killed in 2009 because of this work.&nbsp;

However, they refused to be suppressed and went on to work, till last year’s shutdown reacting to the announcement, the group’s board member Anke Giesen said, “It encourages us in our resolve to support our Russian colleagues to continue their work at a new location, despite the forced dissolution of Memorial International in Moscow.”&nbsp;

‘Advancing human rights and democracy in Ukraine’: The Center for Civil Liberties&nbsp;

Founded in 2007, The Center for Civil Liberties in Ukraine was established for the “purpose of advancing human rights and democracy…It has taken a stand to strengthen Ukrainian civil society and pressure the authorities to make Ukraine a full-fledged democracy,” said the academy.&nbsp;

The centre’s role has been pivotal in holding those accountable for their crimes since the Russian invasion began earlier this year as they are working to “identify and document Russian war crimes against the Ukrainian population.” &nbsp;

During a fundraiser for Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Biden said that Putin was not joking “when he talks about the use of tactical nuclear weapons or biological or chemical weapons.”

&nbsp;“We have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban Missile Crisis."

While Russia has said that they will only use the nuclear weapons in an extreme situation and will try to keep the casualties to a minimum, Biden did not seem convinced with the promises.

Meanwhile, the US ambassador to the United Nations – Linda Thomas-Greenfield – accused Russia of exploiting African resources in order to fund their war in Ukraine.

"One of the most immediate and growing concerns in Africa is the Kremlin-backed Wagner Group strategy of exploiting the natural resources of the Central African Republic, Mali and Sudan, as well as other countries. These actions are thoroughly documented and irrefutable. And we know these ill-gotten gains are used to fund Moscow's war machine in Africa, the Middle East, and Ukraine."

"And rather than being a transparent partner and improving security, Wagner exploits client states who pay for their heavy-handed security services in gold, diamonds, timber and other natural resources. This is part of Wagner Group's business model. Make no mistake: people across Africa are paying a heavy price for the Wagner Group's exploitative practices and human rights violations," she said.

Ukrainian soldiers shelled a bus in the Russian-controlled area of southern Ukraine's Kherson region on Friday, resulting in at least five fatalities and as many injuries, according to the Russian TASS news agency.

Authorities that were imposed by <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/russian-president-vladimir-putin-turns-70-523244">Russia</a> in the area claimed that the attack happened as the bus was transporting people across a bridge close to the village of Darivka.

The burnt-out remains of what looked to be a bus's chassis were shown in videos posted by the Russian military news agency Zvezda, along with a van that was behind it and had smoke coming out of its front compartment.

"Ambulance crews promptly arrived at the scene and provided emergency medical treatment to the victims," a Telegram channel run by the Russian-installed health authorities said.

One of the few Russian-controlled crossings over the Inhulets River, a tributary of the enormous Dnipro, is the roughly 100-metre-long Daryivskiy bridge.

The bridge, which is only 20 kilometres (12 miles) north-east of Kherson city, connects two Russian-occupied portions of the region and is therefore strategically significant.

At least twice, it has been shelled, and Ukrainian forces declared in August that they had rendered it inoperable.

The power plant has been in the middle of a power struggle as the Russian military occupied the facility at the start of the invasion. In the next few months, Ukraine has regained a lot of areas around the nuclear plant, but it is still being operated by Russian forces.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said on Wednesday that he will be travelling to the Zaporizhzhia plant in the near future along with a delegation.

The IAEA also said that Grossi will be assisting with the formation of the “protection zone around the power station”. While the nuclear power plant has shut down most of its operations in the past few months, Ukrainian state nuclear agency Energoatom said that Russia was “creating pseudo-enterprises with the names of Ukrainian companies” to grab complete control of the plant.

“It’s just a pity that they are trying to involve Ukrainian nuclear professionals, who have been heroically working under... occupation for more than seven months” at the Zaporizhzhia plant, Energoatom said on social media.

The Ukrainian push deeper into Kherson is putting further strain on the Kremlin's announcement last week that it had annexed the territory -- alongside three others.

Low platelet counts, which can cause uncontrolled and potentially "life-threatening" blood clotting issues, are symptoms that can result from ARS injuries.

Other than immune thrombocytopenia, which results in low platelet counts, the Amgen medication is licensed for use in children and adults.

Additionally, anti-radiation tablets are apparently being distributed in Ukraine amid rising concerns about a nuclear attack from Russia.

According to NBC News, the Kyiv City Council has been distributing potassium iodine tablets that aid in reducing radiation absorption.

When taken near to nuclear radiation exposure, the pills prevent damaging waves from entering the body through the thyroid gland.

HHS did not elaborate on the reasoning behind the Nplate stock-up, despite the fact that the action coincides with rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine. When taken near to nuclear radiation exposure, the pills prevent damaging waves from entering the body through the thyroid gland. HHS did not elaborate on the reasoning behind the Nplate stock-up, despite the fact that the action coincides with rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The referendums held in the four Ukrainian regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia – caused a lot of controversy in Europe as it was completely dismissed by the United States and other European countries. On the other hand, Russia claimed victory thanks to “huge number of votes”.

With the Ukraine-Russia crisis not showing any signs of slowing down, several countries have already expressed their concern regarding the referendums. Another major point put forward by a number of UN members has been the lack of control Russia exercises on the four annexed regions.

If it is passed, this will become the fourth resolution against the Russian invasion since April.

Metsola, who was the first head of an EU institution to visit Kyiv, back in April, said countries willing to give tanks would be reimbursed from an EU fund, the European Peace Facility, which has released 2.5 billion euros ($2.5 billion) for Ukraine military purchases.

"I think these are discussions we need to have now, especially because we are seeing Russia is escalating but also on the flipside when we are seeing Ukraine successfully pushing the Russians out," she said.
