Parody Twitter accounts will be “permanently suspended” if they do not specify in their bio that they are impersonating, warned “free speech absolutist” Elon Musk.

Parody Twitter accounts will be “permanently suspended” if they do not specify in their bio that they are impersonating, warned “free speech absolutist” Elon Musk. The latest warning was in response to some owners of already verified accounts renaming themselves as Elon Musk in a bid to point out that the $8 plan would allow anyone to impersonate anyone else and can potentially spread disinformation. Comedians Kathy Griffin and Sarah Silverman, and Australian satirical website the Chaser are among the accounts already known to be locked or suspended as a result, according to reports. "Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying 'parody' will be permanently suspended," Musk tweeted Sunday evening. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue," he said in a thread. Earlier, Musk had said that he opposed permanent bans on Twitter. Trying to defend his bans, Musk tweeted that his commitment to free speech “extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk.” Since Musk took over Twitter, there have been speculations that the accounts banned previously would be reinstated, including former US president Donald Trump. Last week, the 51-year-old billionaire said they will not be allowed back onto Twitter until the social media platform has "a clear process for doing so." On Saturday, Twitter updated its app in Apple's App Store to begin charging $8 for sought-after blue check verification marks. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

'Yup', says Elon Musk when user claims Twitter employees asked for USD 15k for blue tick

<p>As Twitter began unrolling its 'paid' blue tick, Olivier Veran, French minister and government spokesperson, said on Sunday (November 6) that he will not pay USD 7.99 a month fee for account verification. He added that he had concerns about ambitions of the social media platform's new owner Elon Musk. &nbsp;</p>

<p>On Saturday, Twitter began updating its app in Apple's App Store and started&nbsp;charging for the blue checkmarks. This is first major revision since Musk took over on October 28.</p>

<p>Twitter said those who "sign up now" can receive the checkmark next to their user names, "just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you already follow".</p>

<p>"I invite them to decertify my account without delay if they consider that this is something that one has to start paying for," Veran told France 3 television.</p>

<p>Before Musk took over, a blue checkmark next to a user name meant Twitter had confirmed the account belonged to the person or company claiming it.</p>

<p>Veran even said he was not sure he would continue to use Twitter following Musk's takeover. He agreed that it was a major communication tool but added, "The fact that this major global tool belongs to one man, and that he displays ambitions that worry me a bit - at least some of them - means that I will remain vigilant and that I will take my own responsibilities if necessary."</p>

<p>Veran has a verified Twitter account with a blue checkmark. The former health minister has nearly 425,000 followers.</p>

Morning news brief: Biden slammed for coal comments, UN writes letter to Musk and more

Twitter's co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey has now issued an apology and said sorry for 'growing the company too quickly and that led to the mass lay-offs'. He owned the responsibility for putting people in this situation.

Twitter tussle: Former CEO Jack Dorsey apologises to staff

<p>Under the ownership of Elon Musk, Twitter Inc. has started to lay off staff members. As many as 3,700 employees, or half of its workforce, were sacked&nbsp;by the San Francisco-based social media company on Friday.&nbsp;A class action lawsuit has already been filed against Twitter on the grounds that the impending layoffs will be illegal under US&nbsp;and California law if employees are not given early warning or severance compensation.</p>

<h2>What does the US law say?</h2>

<p>Businesses with 100 or more employees are required by the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act to give 60 days' notice before initiating <a href="https://www.wionews.com/business-economy/twitter-starts-mass-layoff-large-number-of-employees-laid-off-in-india-531275">mass layoffs</a>. According to the legislation, mass layoffs are those that affect at least 500 workers over the course of 30 days, or at least 50 workers if the layoffs affect at least one-third of a company's employment. Instead of giving notice, employers may offer 60 days of severance compensation to employees.</p>

<h2>Warn Act violations are subject to what penalties?</h2>

<p>If an employer is determined to have broken the WARN Act, they may be required to pay the laid-off employees 60 days' worth of back pay. Additionally, there are fines of $500 each day of infringement under the legislation. Similar punishments are imposed by comparable legislation in California and other states.</p>

<h2>Accusations against Twitter</h2>

<p>According to the complaint, which was submitted late on Thursday to a federal court in San Francisco, Twitter locked off its employees' accounts on that day, indicating that they would soon lose their employment. A California-based plaintiff who is one of the five listed plaintiffs claims he was fired on November 1 without warning or severance compensation.</p>
