The biggest threat to reptiles are deforestation for agriculture, logging, and development, urban encroachment, and hunting by people.

Climate change has triggered catastrophic declines in biodiversity across the world with 31 species being identified as already extinct.

Not just this, 40 percent of amphibians, 25 percent of mammals, and 13 percent of birds are being pushed to the brink and could face extinction. &nbsp;

"Reptiles represent an important and diverse branch of the tree of life and play integral roles in the ecosystems where they occur," said Bruce Young, co-leader of the study.

"This global assessment is a key beginning to understanding reptile conservation needs. Now we know where the priorities are and what the threats are that we need to ameliorate. There is no longer any excuse for leaving reptiles out of conservation planning and implementation efforts worldwide," added Young.

In order to protect the turtles, a protective barrier had been put up around the nest. There were also volunteers from animal rights groups who kept vigil day and night.

Diego Cattarossi, the scientific director of the Tropicarium zoological park in Jesolo, told the local newspaper, Il Mattino di Padova, "The instinctive walk towards the sea is fundamental for the species because it helps them to memorise where the beach is, allowing the females to return to lay their eggs where they were born."

In addition to the cold wave, Texas has been hit by power outage for last several days. Millions of Texans don't have electricity. This has added to their difficulties during the cold wave.

USA's National Weather Service (NWS) issued winter warning for areas from east Texas to the East Coast state of Maryland.

The NWS said the storm would bring ice, sleet and heavy snow to parts of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Mississippi as it tracks to the northeast, causing power outages, tree damage and making driving hazardous.&nbsp;

Volunteers release 80 turtles back into sea on Colombian coast

Indonesia released 25 green turtles into the ocean on Wednesday (August 5), after the endangered animals were recovered during a raid on poachers last month. The turtles were part of some 36 green turtles rescued in mid-July from illegal traffickers. Another 11 turtles are set to be released back into their natural habitat on Sunday (August 9), the Agency for Conservation of Natural Resources of Bali said.
