<p>The epicentre of the quakes was registered around western Nepal's Bajhang district while in India,&nbsp;the epicentre was recorded 206 kilometres southeast of Joshimath in Uttarakhand and 284 km north of Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh.</p>

<p>Interior ministry official Rama Acharya told Reuters that the quakes reportedly blocked a major highway in Nepal,&nbsp;an important route in the southern plains. According to local media reports, at least 12 people were injured, but no reports of casualties have come to the fore till now.</p>

<p>“In the Delhi region, the magnitude was 3...We have received responses from people that it was felt in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Delhi, Lucknow region, Jaipur region. <p>Initially, many falsely believed that they may have been caused by earthquakes. Seismologists had theorised that they may have originated from controlled explosions in Poland, more than nearly 90 miles (145 km) to the south.</p>

<p>However, on Monday, the GUES clarified that the tremors were "not caused by earthquakes, but by pressure waves from an event in the atmosphere." However, they came from "an unknown source."</p>

<p>"The seismologists can report that it is unlikely that the tremors originate from a controlled explosion in Poland, which was carried out shortly before the first reports of tremors on Bornholm," the body known as GEUS said in a statement.</p>

<p>At least 23 people had been injured, the agency said. The deceased was identified as a 65-year-old man who he fell from a ladder during the earthquake.</p>

<p>"Our staff are out checking damage from the quake," an official from Suzu in Ishikawa prefecture, the hardest-hit city, told AFP.</p>

<p>Around 1,630 residents of Suzu have been evacuated, with about 250 taking shelter in evacuation centres, Jiji news agency reported late Saturday.</p>

<p>Over 100 households in the region were without running water as of Saturday afternoon, and roads were closed in many areas, the agency added.</p>

<p>The city had provided temporary public supplies after running water had turned brown in parts of the region, officials said earlier.</p>

<p>Clips surfaced online of the tremors showed a grocery shop strewn with broken wine bottles and other products that had fallen from shelves.</p>

<p>"A big shake there! A magnitude 6.0, 57 km deep, 50 km north-west of Paraparaumu was widely felt in the North Island," said New Zealand's Civil Defence agency.</p>

<p>There were no immediate reports of damage, and no tsunami warning has been issued.</p>

<p>The quake came as the cleanup gets underway from a devastating cyclone, which killed four people and caused widespread damage across the North Island.</p>

<p>"It is already a really stressful time for people -- look after yourself and the people around you," said the civil defence agency.</p>

<p>However, it said that the earthquake did not indicate any threat of a tsunami in the future. Garut's local rescue chief Budi Satria said no significant damage took place due to the earthquake.</p>

<p>"Some people ran outside when the earthquake happened but when it calmed down, they went back to their activities. Thank God, so far everything is safe," he added.</p>
