India's first locomotive-less less train, known as Train 18, breached the 180 kmph speed limit during a test run on Sunday, a senior railway official said here.

When this Rs 100-crore indigenously designed train is made operational, it will become the country's fastest train.

"Train 18 breached the 180 kmph speed limit in the Kota-Sawai Madhopur section. The major trials are now over, with just some more remaining. Based on the reports, fine tuning would be done if needed. As of now no major technical problem has cropped up," S Mani, General Manager of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) that has manufactured the train, said.

"We expect Train 18 to commence its commercial run from January 2019. Normally the trials take three months. But now it is happening faster than expected," Mani added.

If all things go well, Train 18 will replace the current Shatabdi Express - a day train. Train 18 is capable of touching 200 kmph provided the rest of Indian Railways' system such as tracks and signals permit, officials said.

The ICF will roll out one more Train 18 this fiscal and four by the next fiscal.

On October 29, the high-tech, energy-efficient, self-propelled (engine-less) train was flagged off here by Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani.

With 16 coaches, the train will have the same passenger carrying capacity as that of the Shatabdi Express. It has aerodynamically designed driver cabins at both ends for quicker turn-around at destinations.

The train sports an advanced regenerative braking system which saves power. The fully air-conditioned train offers better passenger comfort and safety, as all equipment are fixed under the carriage so that more space is available on board, officials said.

The train crashed off the rails, damaging around 1,500 metres (1,600 yards) of tracks, but hurting no one.

Aerial images published by The West Australian showed a trail of twisted wreckage, with some wagons covered by their loads of iron ore.

BHP said recovering the train and fixing the track -- a key access route for the enormous mining facility -- will take around a week.

However, it said, operations would be maintained and the use of reserves would mean there would be no interruption to supply.

Australia is one of the world's major sources of iron ore.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau said it was investigating Monday's incident.

There was no indication of what had caused the train to move without its driver.

BHP's shares were trading 1.21 per cent lower at Aus $33.14 in Sydney Wednesday amid reports in Britain that the Anglo-Australian firm was facing a £5 billion (US $6.5 billion) lawsuit over the deadly Samarco dam failure in Brazil in 2015.

The bodies of a retired Andhra judge and his wife were on Friday found on the railway tracks near Tirupati.&nbsp;

Police said the judge had thrown himself in front of a train, and that his wife followed suit a few hours later.&nbsp;

Police identified the retired additional district judge as Pamuluru Sudhaka and his wife as Varalakshmi. They were 62 and 56. News reports Saturday said their bodies were recovered from the railway tracks near Chadalavada Engineering College in Renigunta, 10 km from Tirupati.&nbsp;

The reports quoted the judge's suicide note as saying he was no longer able to bear the trauma of the kidney disease he was suffering from, which is why he was ending his life.&nbsp;

Police said that on hearing the news, the judge's son and daughter, Sandeep and Sabitha, both of whom are software professionals in Bengaluru, rushed home.&nbsp;

Varalakshmi on the other hand visited the spot and took the same extreme step as her husband.&nbsp;

Retired Andhra judge throws himself in front of train, wife follows a few hours later

People across Delhi-NCR braved a dust storm accompanied by squall on Sunday afternoon. So far, four incidents of wall collapse have been reported from various parts of Delhi.

The incidents were reported from Najafgarh, Transit Camp, Nehru Place, Mohan Garden in Uttam Nagar, and Raj Nagar in Palam.

Two fire tenders each were rushed to the areas, no casualty, injury or loss of property have been reported so far.&nbsp;

The Northern Railways said the train movement was disrupted on the section between the Hazrat Nizamuddin and Palwal stations due to tree felling.

A few passenger and freight trains were held up for around 25 minutes because of the disruption. The Kalka-New Delhi Shatabdi Express was also stopped near Sonepat due to the uprooting of trees.

Delhi dust storm: Four incidents of wall collapse reported

A brand new railway line will reduce the travel time between Agartala and Kolkata by 21 hours. The 12.3 km Akhaura rail line will pass through Bangladesh's capital Dhaka instead of Guwahati, Assam.

The present line will go to Akhaura which is linked to Dhaka Chittagong rail route and is expected to get operational by 2020.

At present, the travel time between the two cities is over 30 hours which will now be cut down to just 10 hours.

The total distance covered by the train will also be slashed to half from 1600kms to a mere 550 km.

India and Bangladesh have four operational rail links between West Bengal and Western Bangladesh.

"Kolkata is a major destination for people in this area, but as of now there was no direct connectivity to the city. The line will help not only people from Agartala but also those from Mizoram which is 150 km away," Chief engineer of the Rs 570 crore project M S Chauhan said.

The railway line is expected to facilitate freight movement. Goods from the northeastern state can now reach Kolkata in one third the time.&nbsp

Travel time between Agartala, Kolkata to reduce by more than half

Thirteen schoolchildren have died in Uttar Pradesh after a train collided with the van they were travelling in.&nbsp;

The accident occurred at an unmanned crossing in the state's Kushinagar district.&nbsp;

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityananth visited the accident site where he said four other children and the van driver were critically injured.&nbsp;

An "enquiry will be conducted to nab those responsible," he added.&nbsp;

Adityanath added that he had spoken to Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and that "prima facie&nbsp;(it) appears to be (the) mistake of the van driver".&nbsp;

Adityanath said the van driver had "earphones on and there are questions over his age too".&nbsp;

"Strict action will be taken," he added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani said in Delhi that they&nbsp;are "trying to eliminate unmanned level crossings".

Adityanath had earlier released a statement expressing his "deepest condolences on this very unfortunate incident and directed district administration to provide all help and medical aid."

He also announced ex-gratia&nbsp;payment of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the victims.&nbsp;

An enquiry was also ordered by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal.&nbsp;

"I have asked senior officials to conduct an inquiry into the incident. Railways will provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh each to families of the deceased,"&nbsp; Goyal tweeted.&nbsp;

- PM Modi also flagged off&nbsp;an electric locomotive, with a 12,000 horsepower (HP), which will be flagged off from Bihar's Madhepura loco factory.&nbsp;This will be the first of 40 locomotives expected to roll out of the factory by the end of March 2020. Under the agreement with Alstom, India will get 800 high horsepower electric locomotives over the next 11 years, at a cost of Rs. 20,000 crore

Passengers of the Ahmedabad-Puri Express had a narrow escape on Saturday night when the coaches of the train travelled a few kilometres without the engine, which was detached for reversal at the Titlagarh station in Odisha, due to the non-application of the skid brakes, a railway official said.

The train had rolled down for 15 kilometres without any&nbsp;engine, following which two employees, who didn't follow the&nbsp;engine&nbsp;shunting procedure, two&nbsp;engine&nbsp;drivers and three carriage-repairing staffers were suspended.

At least one person has been killed and six were injured when an Amtrak train, carrying Republican lawmakers, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, collided with a garbage truck in Virginia.

Rattled by the recent spate of train derailments in the country, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday, assured the people about the ambitious project and said that that the bullet train has not seen a single accident in Japan.

During the visit, Prime Minister Abe will also hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi and is expected to serve as the &quot;top salesman&quot; for the adoption of the Shinkansen technology by other Indian railway systems, with China also aiming to win orders for the projects, the Japan Times had reported, earlier in August.

The 500-km railway will link Mumbai and Ahmedabad in western India, with services planned to commence in 2023. This train is based on Japanese high-speed technology called Shinkansen, known for its safety and comfort. India has pledged to build high-speed railways, focused on the four major cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

When Prime Minister Modi went to Japan last November, he travelled by Shinkansen with his Japanese counterpart from Tokyo to Kobe to visit a bullet-train plant of Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., a maker of Shinkansen cars.

'It has been a zero-accident train in Japan and I am sure the track record will remain the same in India,' the new railway miniser said

Rattled by the recent spate of train derailments in the country, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday, assured the people about the ambitious project and said that that the bullet train has not seen a single accident in Japan. "It has been a zero-accident train in Japan and I am sure the track record will remain the same in India," Piyush Goyal said. Ahead of Bhoomi Pujan ceremony of the bullet train project, Goyal said that the country`s rail network will be transformed and revolutionised with the initiative. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given directions for a holistic development of the Indian Railways," Goyal said, adding, India`s transport sector is all set to change and "it is indeed a matter of celebration." Goyal further said that the new initiative will help boost the employment in the country. "The coming of bullet trains to India will not only boost employment , but also will help India to export it," he said.
