Elon musk has done it again! The eccentric tech billionaire has shared yet another tweet aimed at further riling up the Twitter controversy.

Taking a swipe at the Twitter board of directors, Musk on Monday made a pretty bold statement about board member salaries. This comes after the social media giant decided to adopt a “poison pill” approach to deal with Musk’s hostile takeover bid of $43 billion.

A Twitter user while talking about Musk’s bid had posted a document along with the text: “Let me point out something obvious: If @elonmusk takes $TWTR private, the TWTR board members don’t have jobs any more, which pays them $250K-$300K per year for what is a nice part-time job. That could explain a lot.”

Responding to the user’s criticism of the board Tesla's CEO tweeted: "Board salary will be $0 if my bid succeeds, so that's ~$3M/year saved right there."

The whole Musk-Twitter saga started with the eccentric billionaire purchasing 9.2 per cent stock in the micro-blogging website. This move at that time made him Twitter’s biggest shareholder, a position that was short-lived. Now, the Vanguard group holds that position with a 10.3 per cent stake.

On Thursday, continuing his tirade against the company Musk launched a poll asking his millions of followers if "taking Twitter private at $54.20 should be up to shareholders, not the board", to which a huge majority responded "Yes".

After Twitter launched the 'poison pill' protocol, a plan to sell shares at a discount to prevent shareholders from amassing a stake of more than 15 per cent, Tesla CEO Elon Musk also tweeted "Love Me Tender," an Elvis Presley song.

Meanwhile, Twitter co-founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey chastised the company's board in a series of tweet replies on Saturday, saying "it's consistently been the dysfunction of the company."

'Love me tender': Cryptic tweets continue to pour in from Elon Musk after Twitter bid row

A US judge declared Elon Musk's tweets in 2018 in which he claimed that he had secured financing to take Tesla private were "false and misleading".

The court said Musk's tweets "recklessly made the statements with knowledge as to their falsity". Tesla's share prices had fluctuated for days after Musk's August 7, 2018 tweet. Reports claim investors are seeking damages over the tweets.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission had also charged Musk with fraud after the controversial tweets. Musk later stepped down as Tesla chairman as he settled with the US market regulator and agreed to pay a $20 million fine.

The latest ruling comes as Musk has been engaged in a war with Twitter over joining the board. The SpaceX chief in a tweet said,"Taking Twitter private at $54.20 should be up to shareholders, not the board," while citing an online poll.

Musk's tweets on Tesla were 'false and misleading', rules US court

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is not new to controversies, the world's richest man often uses social media handles to solve business issues. He has used Twitter many times in the past to communicate with various governments for his business interests. Recently, he took to Twitter urging the Indian government to reduce import duties on electric vehicles.

Elon Musk's Twitter ownership may create trouble, questions over conflict of interests

Just hours after Elon Musk offered to buy tech giant Twitter for $41.39 billion, the billionaire said he was not sure if he would 'be able to acquire it', but hinted at a plan B.

Asserting that his hostile bid was not aimed at making money but to create an inclusive arena for free speech, Musk said he has sufficient assets to carry out the deal. Musk's net worth is estimated to be around $282 billion.

Speaking at TED2022 conference in Vancouver, Musk did not disclose what his plan B is but reports said he could dump the 9.2% stake in the company which had made him the largest shareholder in the social media giant.

"I am not sure that I will actually be able to acquire it," he told the conference.

He called Securities and Exchange Commission officials "bastards" for bringing fraud charges against him over his 2018 tweets regarding taking Tesla private.

"So I was forced to concede to the SEC unlawfully. Those bastards."

Musk offered to buy Twitter in a regulatory filing on Thursday. He is offering $54.20 per share. He made an announcement about his offer in a short tweet on Thursday that said 'I made an offer'.

Musk has looked to give 38 per cent premium over the closing price of the stock of Twitter on April 1.

The single tweet from the billionaire sent shockwaves through the business world. The offer elicited fears as well as cheers.

Tech watchers reacted to the Tesla chief's proposal for one of the world's most influential information exchanges with immediate worries about accountability, public discourse and even how it could impact democracy.

"Twitter is too important to be owned and controlled by a single person," tweeted venture capitalist Fred Wilson. "The opposite should be happening. Twitter should be decentralized."

Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal has already come out against the proposal, saying it's too low, drawing a sharp reply from Musk questioning Saudi Arabia's "views on journalistic freedom of speech."

Still, Musk provided some detail Thursday on his vision, saying he'd like to lift the veil on the algorithm that runs on the platform, even allowing people to look through it and suggest changes.

The mercurial billionaire is known to support free speech but is also opposed to curbs which experts believe are important to prevent negative real-world ramifications like violence.

"I think we want to really have, like a sort of obsession and reality, that speech is as free as reasonably possible," he added.

Twitter not held hostage by Musk offer, says CEO

Meanwhile, speaking to employees, Twitter CEO Parag Agarwal said the company is not held hostage by Musk's offer.

"We as employees control what happens," he told staff, asking them to remain focused, according to news agency Reuters.

It said he was responding to staff queries posted on the Slack messaging service of Twitter.

Agarwal faced some tough questions in the interaction with staff.

One of them asked how Twitter decided to offer Musk a seat in the company's board. "Are we just going to start inviting any and all billionaires to the board?"

According to Reuters, Agrawal said the board was acting in the best interest of shareholders. "I have a strong point of view that people who are critical of our service, their voice is something that we must emphasise so that we can learn and get better."

Agarwal didn't directly address a question as to how he viewed Musk's definition of free speech, according to Reuters. He said the company's work was focused on continuously improving "the health of conversation" on Twitter.

On Musk's takeover offer, Agrawal said the board was continuing to review it, adding he was limited in what he could share with the employees.

Musk, who had a long and complicated relationship with the social media platform, had recently revealed that he acquired a stake in Twitter.

This came after questioning Twitter's commitment to free speech and asking the users if a new platform was needed.

"Free speech is essential to a functioning democracy. Do you believe Twitter rigorously adheres to this principle?," he tweeted.

"Given that Twitter serves as the de facto public town square, failing to adhere to free speech principles fundamentally undermines democracy. What should be done?" Musk said, adding, "Is a new platform needed?"

There has always been a demand for an edit button on Twitter. On April 1, the company tweeted that it was working on an edit button.

But many were confused about whether the social media company was playing a prank on April Fool’s Day.

After buying 9.2% stake, Musk comes up with another poll; Twitter CEO cautions users

Electric car maker Tesla has notified workers and suppliers that manufacturing at its Shanghai factory in china will not resume today as it had hoped earlier.

Tesla unable to restart Shanghai production

It is well established that whatever Elon Musk does, it becomes an instant rage on social media.

Be it with his rambunctious statements or through his Twitter feeds, the Tesla CEO sure knows how to grab people’s attention.

One such viral antic of his has Twitter buzzing. Tesla recently opened its "giga factory" in Germany, the company's first manufacturing facility in Europe.

But what lit up the internet at that event was Elon Musk’s dance moves.

A clip, which has gone viral, shows Musk dancing awkwardly around a vehicle as the crowd claps him on over some loud dance music.

It revived the memories of another slightly awkward jig he did at a launch event in Shanghai in 2020.

And as expected, Twitter completely lost it over the clip, with many commending Musk on a job well done and being happy for the CEO for feeling so joyous about his accomplishments.

The $5.5 million dollar plant is expected to “manufacture hundreds of thousands of Model Y vehicles and millions of battery cells”. It officially opened in Berlin to 30 clients on March 22.

The "giga factory" in Gruenheide, in Germany's eastern state of Brandenburg, is Tesla's first production site in Europe and local officials are hoping it will help the region position itself as a hub for electric vehicle production.

The Californian company aims eventually to employ some 12,000 workers at the site.

"We are extremely confident that the world can transition to a sustainable energy future with the combination of solar, wind, plus battery storage and electric vehicles," Musk said in a speech at the ceremony.

"I really want to assure everyone that you can have hope in the future, you should have hope in the future," he added.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Friday that Tesla is recalling 947 vehicles in the United States because the rearview image may not immediately display when they begin to reverse.

Tesla said "over the following week, an engineering investigation into the condition identified a software error as a potential cause for further assessment."

Tesla said that "despite not finding a noncompliance in the tests that Tesla conducted, a recall determination was made out of an abundance of caution to recognize the potential presence of a noncompliance in affected vehicles."

Previously, NHTSA made Tesla recall nearly 579,000 vehicles in the US because a “Boombox” function can play sounds over an external speaker and obscure audible warnings for pedestrians of an approaching vehicle.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk, when asked on Twitter why the company agreed to the recall, responded: “The fun police made us do it (sigh).”

It comes after US auto safety regulators had launched investigation on Tesla as its cars stopped on roads for no apparent reason.

The vehicles were equipped with partially automated driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control and “Autopilot,” which allows them to automatically brake and steer within their lanes.

“Complainants report that the rapid deceleration can occur without warning, and often repeatedly during a single drive cycle,” the agency said.

Musk has been fighting with US and California government agencies for years, sparring with NHTSA and most notably with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

He is trying to cancel an agreement he made in 2018 with the US stock market regulator (SEC) that requires some of his tweets to be approved by lawyers before they are posted.

The South Africa-born mogul and Tesla each agreed to pay $20 million in civil fines over Musk’s tweets about having the money to take the company private at $420 per share. The funding was far from secured and the company remains public. The settlement specified governance changes, including Musk’s ouster as board chairman, as well approval of Musk’s tweets.

EV giant Tesla is facing a criminal lawsuit in France after a complaint from a taxi driver whose Tesla Model 3 crashed in Paris.

Tesla faces criminal lawsuit in France after complaint about a crashed Tesla Model 3 in Paris

A Paris taxi driver is suing carmaker Tesla. His Tesla Model 3 crashed in December last year killing one person. The French government said in the days after the accident that Tesla had told it that there was no immediate indication of a technical fault.

Sarah Saldmann, the taxi driver's lawyer said her client had filed a criminal complaint with public prosecutors in Versailles on Friday. The driver has alleged that Tesla had "put the lives of others in danger".

Tesla did not respond to an e-mail from Reuters for a comment on this matter.

The off-duty taxi driver's Tesla ploughed through metal posts, a row of pay-to-ride bicycles and a recycling bin full of glass, hitting pedestrians and a van before finally coming to a halt, witnesses said of the accident.

The taxi driver, who has not been named, told police after the accident that the car had accelerated on its own and that he was unable to activate the brakes.

Saldmann declined to comment when asked if the complaint had been made on the basis of the still-unpublished initial conclusions from investigators.

In addition to the fatality, three people were seriously hurt and another 17 injured in the accident in the 13th arrondissement of the French capital on a street lined with bars, restaurants and shops.

The taxi driver is under formal investigation for manslaughter but has not been charged. He tested negative in an alcohol test after the accident.

The public prosecutor's office in Versailles will now decide whether Tesla has a case to answer.

Tesla collects detailed data from the sensors and cameras on its vehicles and has used such data in the past to challenge claims that accidents were caused by malfunctioning technology.

Tesla hikes China, US prices for second time within a week

Tesla Inc Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Sunday the U.S. electric carmaker and his rocket company SpaceX are facing significant inflationary pressure in raw materials and logistics.

Musk in a tweet also asked about inflation rate outlook and said his companies "are not alone", retweeting an article saying the Ukraine-Russia conflict sent commodity prices to their highest levels since 2008.

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has been ramping up the prices of metals used in cars, from aluminum in the bodywork to palladium in catalytic converters to the high-grade nickel in electric vehicle batteries, and drivers are likely to foot the bill. While metals have not been the target of Western sanctions as yet, some shippers and auto-parts suppliers are steering clear of Russian goods, putting more pressure on carmakers already reeling from a chip shortage and higher energy prices.

Escalated by housing, food, and gas prices, the U.S. consumer inflation saw its steepest spike in the last four decades, likely cementing the case for an interest rate hike by the Federal Reserve.

Tesla's shares, which closed 5% lower at $795.35 on Friday, have lost about 25% year-to-date.

The electric-car maker last week raised prices of its U.S. Model Y SUVs and Model 3 Long Range sedans by $1,000 each and some China-made Model 3 and Model Y vehicles by 10,000 yuan ($1,582.40).

U.S. electric vehicle maker Rivian Automotive Inc said last week supply-chain issues could cut its planned production in half, citing soaring raw material prices and supply chain constraints. Elon Musk says Tesla and SpaceX are facing inflation pressure in raw materials and logistics

After a series of administrative delays, US electric car pioneer Tesla is on the verge of receiving the go-ahead from German authorities on Friday to begin production at its "giga-factory" outside Berlin.

Officials in the eastern state of Brandenburg, where the factory is located, look set to confirm their approval at a press conference in Potsdam at 3:30 pm (1430 GMT), according to local reports.

The plant, in Grueneheide, to the southeast of Berlin, is slated to produce 500,000 vehicles a year.

Announced with much fanfare in November 2019, the project was warmly received by politicians in a country proud of its car-making tradition.

Elon Musk's Tesla benefited from an expedited preliminary approval process, allowing it to begin construction before receiving the final planning permission.

But the American manufacturer's early momentum was broken by a series of legal and administrative difficulties, in part prompted by angry locals with concerns over the environmental impact of the site.

Protected lizards

Together with national NGOs Nabu and Gruene Liga, residents did everything to stand in the way of the project, organising protests, making court appeals and writing open letters.

In 2020, courts ordered Tesla to stop work at the site after a complaint by local associations fearing the destruction of the habitat of endangered lizards and snakes.

The plant's massive demand for water was also a sore point for residents in an area that has been hit by summer droughts in the last three years.

On Friday, judges could also hand down a decision in a case brought against the local administration, which plans to pump out more water to use at the plant.

Under pressure from environmentalists, authorities were careful to examine the case closely, delaying the arrival of planning permission.

Setbacks also gave Tesla the opportunity to amend its application, adding a massive yet-to-be-built battery plant next to the main factory.

Thousands were in attendance at the event, where Musk declared his intention to begin production in November or December of this year.

The earlier target may have been achieved were it not for the extension of a public consultation deadline from mid-October to the end of November due to an administrative error.

The auto safety regulators in the United States have launched another investigation of Tesla, this time tied to complaints that its cars can stop on roads for no apparent reason.

“Complainants report that the rapid deceleration can occur without warning, and often repeatedly during a single drive cycle,” the agency says.

Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk, who has a long history of clashing with US safety officials, denied there was a safety issue with the function.

"The car simply slowed to ~2 mph & continued forward if clear view with no cars or pedestrians," Musk wrote on Twitter.

Tesla has led the auto industry in over-the-air recall updates. While nearly all recalls issued by NHTSA since 2020 required physical fixes, seven of Tesla's 19 recalls since January 2020, or 37 per cent, were addressed with over-the-air software updates, an analysis of public data showed.

Michael Brooks, acting executive director of the nonprofit Centre for Auto Safety, said it’s encouraging to see NHTSA’s enforcement actions “after years of turning the other way,” with Tesla. But he said the company keeps releasing software onto US roads that isn’t tested to make sure it’s safe.

“A piecemeal investigative approach to each problem that raises its head does not address the larger issue in Tesla’s safety culture — the company’s continued willingness to beta test its technology on the American public while misrepresenting the capabilities of its vehicles,” Brooks said.

In a letter to US District Judge Alison Nathan, attorneys for Musk, a longtime critic of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), accused the agency of propagating "endless unfounded investigations" into the Tesla boss and his company.

"The SEC seems to be targeting Mr. Musk and Tesla for unrelenting investigation largely because Mr. Musk remains an outspoken critic of the government," Spiro said.

Tesla sued over alleged suspension failure

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Thursday it is opening a formal investigation into 416,000 Tesla vehicles over reports of unexpected brake activation tied to its driver assistance system Autopilot.

The preliminary evaluation covers 2021-2022 Tesla Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in the United States after the agency received 354 complaints about the issue over the past nine months.

NHTSA said the vehicles under review have an advanced driver assistance system that Tesla calls Autopilot that allows them to brake and steer automatically within its lanes.

NHTSA said: "Complainants report that the rapid deceleration can occur without warning, at random, and often repeatedly in a single drive cycle."

Owners say they have raised concerns with Tesla, which has dismissed the complaints saying the braking is normal, and some have called it "phantom braking".

The owner of a 2021 Tesla Model Y told NHTSA in October that while driving on a highway at 80 miles per hour "the car braked hard and decelerated from 80 mph to 69 mph in less than a second.

The braking was so violent, my head snapped forward and I almost lost control of the car."

NHTSA in August opened a formal safety probe into Tesla`s Autopilot system in 765,000 U.S. vehicles after a series of crashes involving Tesla models and emergency vehicles.

Earlier this month, NHTSA confirmed it was reviewing consumer complaints that Tesla vehicles were activating the brakes unnecessarily.

A preliminary evaluation is the first phase before NHTSA could issue a formal recall demand.

The recall was prompted after a software update on Oct. 23 to vehicles in its limited early access version 10.3 Full-Self Driving (FSD) (Beta) population.

FSD is an advanced driver assistance system that handles some driving tasks but Tesla and NHTSA say it does not make vehicles autonomous.

The recall came after NHTSA in October asked Tesla why it had not issued a recall to address software updates made to its Autopilot driver-assistance system to improve the vehicles` ability to detect emergency vehicles.

US investigates 416,000 Tesla vehicles over unexpected braking reports

Chief Executive Elon Musk donated Tesla shares worth $5.7 billion to charity last year.

Filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) showed that this donation took place last year from November 19 to November 29.

Shares donated to charity are not subject to capital gains tax and analysts have said there would be a tax benefit for Musk potentially gifting Tesla stock.

"His tax benefit would be huge," said Bob Lord, an associate fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies who studies tax policy.

"He'd save between 40 per cent and 50 per cent of the $5.7 billion in tax, depending on whether he could take the deduction against his California income and he'd avoid the gains tax he would have to pay if he sold the stock."

It comes after Musk asked on Twitter poll if people thought he should sell 10 percent of his stake in Tesla. Most people who responded said he should.

Since conducting that survey Musk has sold more than 11 million shares in Tesla. He hit 10 percent of his stake when he sold 6 million more.

This is more than he needs to pay current tax obligations, and experts say he’s either converting part of his fortune from stock to cash, or he’s saving for bigger tax bills that will come due next year.

The sometimes abrasive and unpredictable Musk, whose net worth is around $300 billion, said he proposed selling the stock as some Democrats have been pushing for billionaires to pay taxes when the price of the stocks they hold goes up, even if they don’t sell any shares.

However, the wording on unrealised gains, also called a “billionaires tax,” was removed from President Joe Biden’s budget, which is still being negotiated.

Musk traded barbs with politicians Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren who called on wealthy people to pay more taxes.

Despite various controversies, shares of Tesla have soared over the last two years, making Musk the world's richest person.

"He'd save between 40 per cent and 50 per cent of the $5.7 billion in tax, depending on whether he could take the deduction against his California income and he'd avoid the gains tax he would have to pay if he sold the stock." It comes after Musk asked on Twitter poll if people thought he should sell 10 percent of his stake in Tesla. (With inputs from agencies)

South Korea's antitrust regulator is considering imposing penalties against U.S. electric car maker Tesla Inc over its findings the company exaggerated the specifications of its batteries, an official said on Wednesday.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission (KFTC) had sent a report to the electric vehicle (EV) maker stating that it had exaggerated the mileage of some of its models, including Model 3, in violation of the Act on Fair Labeling and Advertising, the official said.

"We plan to hold a general meeting to review and determine the extent to which the automaker has violated the law and decide the level of sanctions," an official at the KFTC told Reuters, asking not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.

Tesla, on its website, says its Model 3 can travel 528 km (328 miles) on a single charge. The KFTC says however that the range may fall short of that should the temperature drop below freezing.

Analysts said most electric vehicles could generally experience some loss of driving range in cold weather.

Separately, the KFTC is also weighing whether to impose penalties against Tesla for not refunding deposits to customers who cancelled online purchases before their vehicle orders were put in place for release.

Emails between Tesla chief Elon Musk and the father of a teen who died in a Tesla crash reveals a very kind side of Musk, who is usually known for his controversial opinions. The emails also highlight Musk's involvement in customer relations.

In his emails to James Riley, the father of Barrett Riley, Musk shared the grief of losing a child. “My firstborn son died in my arms. I felt his last heartbeat, " Musk wrote, referring to his son Nevada Alexander Musk who died when he was 10 weeks old.

Musk promised to fulfil Riley’s request of tweaking a computerised feature to make it easier for parents to control the maximum speed a Tesla will go to. “I’ve never asked for acknowledgement for anything in my life, but it would be nice to acknowledge that Barrett and Edgar’s loss led to the enhanced safety of others," Riley wrote.

To this, Musk responded, Tesla “is doing everything we can to improve safety. My friends, family and I all drive Teslas, and even if they didn’t I would still do everything I could."

Barrett Riley died when he was at the wheel of his father’s Tesla Model S in May 2018. It happened when he lost control at 116 miles per hour and crashed into a house in Fort Lauderdale in Florida.

However, two years after the email exchange, Riley filed a product liability suit against Tesla.

His Tesla vehicle’s lithium-ion batteries “burst into an uncontrollable and fatal fire" after the crash, states the complaint.

“Barrett Riley was killed by the battery fire, not by the accident," he said.

The complaint further states that if not for Tesla’s negligence, “Barrett Riley would be alive today."
