The Hubble Space Telescope recently shared another marvel of the universe.&nbsp; In a picture, the Hubble captured a nebula situated around 4,900 light years away in the constellation of Gemini.

Named AFGL-5180, the nebula constitutes part of the vast cloud complex called “Gem OB1”. The molecular clouds are usually found near places where stars are born, same as this nebula.

From the inside, the nebula is lit spectacularly by a young fiery star which is constantly changing its vicinity as it grows, making way for new cavities to exist in the gas cloud.

Stars are created after cool molecular gas hosts a clump in cloudy form. For a star to form, the clump needs to collapse under its own gravity. As the star attempts to become a physical entity, it begins to spin. Owing to this movement, clouds around it form a disk which disappears into the star owing to its strong gravitational pull.

As visible in the picture, two beams of light can be seen coming from behind the cloud, situated in the top right and bottom left of the picture. These beams mean that the star is growing.

Unlike many spiral galaxies, UGC 12588&nbsp; (the cinnamon bun) displays neither a&nbsp;bar of stars across its centre&nbsp;nor the classic prominent&nbsp;spiral arm pattern. Instead, to a viewer, its circular, white and mostly unstructured centre&nbsp;makes this galaxy more reminiscent of a cinnamon bun than a megastructure of stars and gas in space.

Hubble Space Telescope beams back mesmerising image of a nebula!

For the most part, our knowledge of the word 'planet' revolves around the idea is that its a huge space rock, cooler than the stars, deriving energy from the one it revolves around. We can't be blamed because Earth is one such space rock. It is (much) cooler than the Sun and derives all the life forming energy from it.

But universe, as infinite it is, has ways to surprise our minds and set ideas we tend to have about it.&nbsp;

Can you imagine a space body almost hot as our Sun all the while being a 'planet'? Well, there are such planets.

Meet Kelt-9 b! It's a planet 670 lightyears away from Earth. It was found in 2016.

It has been found that this planet has a temperature of 5000 K (4726 degree Celsius). This makes this planet hotter than 80 per cent of all individual&nbsp;stars in the universe.

Kelt-9 b is a gaseous planet and it is 1.8 times bigger than Jupiter, the biggest planet in our solar system. It revolves around its star that is twice as hot as the Sun. In addition, Kelt-9 b has a very very short radius of revolution. It means that it revolves around its star in a very close orbit that is smaller even than that of Mercury in our Solar System.

Kelt-9 b is tidally locked with its star. That means that one side of the planet always faces the star when it makes its revolution.

Why studying Kelt-9 b is important

Planets like Kelt-9 b are called 'hot Jupiters' because of their gaseous nature, gigantic size and extremely hot temperature. This means that behaviour of such planets gives us a brilliant opportunity to study Physics in conditions that are nearly impossible to reproduce on Earth.

In other words, these planets can roughly be called giant labs in space!

The universe truly has amazing secrets!

Have you ever wondered what the centre of our solar system - the gigantic Sun looks like when observed for a long period of time?

Well, fret not because NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has released a time-lapse video to exhibit what has been up with our giant star lately, or 20 years to be exact.

Watch the clip below:

<iframe allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/o-DHwNFDgOU" width="560"></iframe>

The time-lapse shows incredible visuals of the Sun, and how it has grown over the last two decades. The clip was released by NASA to mark the 25th anniversary of SOHO - the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory - a collaborative project between NASA and the European Space Agency.

The dramatic 50-minute long lapse clip shows all sorts of solar flare ups emanating from the Sun in the last 20 years - between 1998 and 2020 - to be exact.

Additionally, one can see the bursts of solar energy in the clip. These bursts are called “Coronal Mass Ejections” or CMEs, and are categorised as fast moving solar materials.

Why&nbsp;should we care? For starters, these little flares that may seen insignificant are actually responsible for weather conditions on Earth, and for any changes that occur. We see auroras due to these flares. Additionally, such movement could cause communication problems, and even power outages across the globe. Yes, that’s how powerful our central star is!

The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory has been designed to outline a deeper understanding of the Sun, and everything that flows from it towards the earth, including the flows of energy, and different kinds of material.

The specialised telescopes of the SOHO are able to block out the bright spots of the sun, enabling it to record and observe the fainter shades of light that emanate from the star.

There will be no studio audience, no group dances, no sky box where the celebrities and their partners congregate. But there will be all the usual tangos and waltzes, and no masks on the dancers when television's "Dancing with the Stars" returns next week with Derek Hough as a new judge with Tyra Banks as the new presenter and co-executive producer.

Were you hopeful of finding aliens in 2020, in light of all the uncanny stuff that has happened this year? Prepare to be disappointed.

Scientists recently scanned a large swathe of the universe, which spanned over 10 million stars, but did not find any signs of alien technology.

No signals

Published in the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia on Monday, the study says that scientists used the Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) which is a collection of 4096 antennas to detect radio signals from space.

"They are little spider-like antennas that sit on the ground," Chenoa Tremblay, who works at CSIRO, Australia’s space research organisation told CNET.

The scientists looked for “techno signatures” which would imply the existence of alien technology in the area surrounding the Vela constellation but found nothing.

They chose this area because a lot of stars in this region had exploded and died, creating conditions for new stars, and possibly new lifeforms to flourish.

17 hours of Vela

No unknown or alien signals were detected in the region after scientists spent 17 hours listening to the Vela region.

The survey scanned over 10.3 million stars.&nbsp; However, this runs on an inherently flawed assumption: that alien civilisations use the same technology as us.

One of the scientists noted that other forms of life nearby may not be using radio signals to communicate with each other, which is perhaps why nothing was recorded in their journey.

The researchers are hence going beyond radio signals, examining simple molecules of life, and ways to detect them. The ability to trace such molecules may signal existence of alien life.

On September 2, another group of researchers published a research which could help find intelligent life in the Milky Way. Scientists from the University of Manchester and the Breakthrough Listen collaboration took into account existing data on radio transmissions coming from within our galaxy. They placed new constraints on such transmissions, which could help scientists find out where to exactly listen in for more signals.

Their data showed that less than 0.04 per cent of stars could be hosting alien life which is detectable by our technology.

The universe is dictated by the principle of fatality: The moment something comes into existence is the same moment it starts inching closer to death.

Just like the creatures and objects it harbours, the universe too has an expiry date. Humans die, animals, stars die too.

Soon?

A group of scientists claim to know when the universe will perish, and it is not sometime soon. The research was published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society and claims that the universe will collapse sometime in the “next few trillion years”.

As opposed to mainstream depictions of the apocalypse, it will not be a one-off event. No giant asteroids will come swooping in and decimate all life in the universe. Instead, stars will explode and fizzle out over time.

One after the another, stars will “very, very slowly fizzle” out.

The death of the universe is different from how we perceive it. It will not be the end of all matter. Instead, this “heat death” will cause black holes to form and dead stars to linger in space.

“It will be a bit of a sad, lonely, cold place,” Matt Caplan, the study's lead author, said in a statement.

When stars die out, they produce a supernova, after which they become white dwarves. This new research posits that there will be another stage after this whereby stars would become “black dwarfs”, will get denser, and host iron in their cores.

White dwarfs will cool over the next few trillion years, and then become black dwarfs, after which they will no longer shine. This grim picture of a cold desolate space might come true, but in a few trillion years.

How long?

Caplan said that it will the first explosion at least 10 to the power of 1100 years to happen.&nbsp; Once iron accumulates, it will trigger the collapse of stars, which will set off explosions across the universe. "It’s mindbogglingly far in the future”, Caplan said.

However, only 1 per cent of the black dwarfs will end up exploding. These will be the ones that grow bigger than 1.2-1..4 times the mass of sun.

The rest 99 per cent will remain black dwarfs. It’s not a rosy picture, for they will linger in the universe as dead bodies, quite literally.

“It’s hard to imagine anything coming after that, black dwarf supernova might be the last interesting thing to happen in the universe," Caplain said.

Astronomers have discovered a "space butterfly" coloured with brilliant blues and clouds of purple and red thousands of light years away.

The space phenomenon, named for its resemblance to a butterfly, is actually a planetary nebula -- a giant cloud of gas that forms around an ancient star that hasn't yet exploded.&nbsp;

The European Space Observatory's (ESO) aptly named Very Large Telescope, recently captured a vibrant image of the interstellar object.

It's known as NGC 2899 (NGC stands for New General Catalogue, which lists nebulae and other astral bodies like this one). It's located somewhere between 3,000 and 6,500 light years away from Earth in the constellation Vela, which is visible in the Southern Hemisphere.

This planetary nebula isn't long for this universe. Ultraviolet radiation lights up the shells of gas surrounding the star and causes them to shine quite brightly.

The Very Large Telescope that captured the image is the "world's most advanced optical instrument," according to the ESO.

Astronomers capture 'space butterfly' from thousands of light years away

A giant star which was under the observation of astronomers for over ten years has suddenly vanished. The star in question was located in a dwarf galaxy 75 million light-years away, and was one of the largest stars in the known universe.

The star, which was 2.5 times brighter than the Sun, left no trace behind.

The astronomers were unable to understand why this happened. But there are two possible scenarios. One, it had a huge outburst. Or it simply dissipated into a black hole, depriving of any light, and hence visibility.

No supernova, no answers

Usually when stars disappear, a huge supernova is witnessed before. The star in question was under the radar of astronomers since 2001. Located in the Kinman Dwarf Galaxy in a constellation called Aquarius, it was in what’s called the “late stage” of evolution, implying it was going to burst soon.

The star was located in a very far off galaxy, making its detection and observation very difficult. The astronomers observed it based on its signature, which was picked up and then analysed, instead of a direct observation. A highly unstable blue star, researchers picked up its signature between 2001-2011.

"Blue variable"

Classified as a “blue variable”, one of the very unstable stars which exhibit fluctuations in brightness and thermal radiation. However, this quality makes it easy to detect such stars, but also highly unpredictable.

The study on the star will soon be published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. When the researchers attempted to locate the star in a bid to study the life cycle of a star, they were simply unable to find it, and there were no traces of its extinction either. It was quite simply - gone!

"We were surprised to find out that the star had disappeared!” Andrew Allan, the lead author of the story, and a PhD student at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland recently said in a statement.

It is typical of stars to go out with a bang, or what is known as a supernova. To be succinct - when a star runs out of fuel, it is simply killed by its own gravity. Whatever remains of that star bursts off and shatters into the universe.

Following this logic, the star in question should have left debris, or any signs of explosion. In fact, the explosion itself would have been massive enough to make it easily detectable. But none of this happened.

A massive star in a far-off galaxy just disappeared, leaving behind no trace!

For the characters of Remo D'Souza's latest film 'Street Dancer 3D', the world is a stage. Divided into two groups representing the two warring nations- India and Pakistan- the two groups are at loggerheads and keep clashing on streets (of London), dance floors, restaurants and have dance-offs. A motley group of youngsters, they seem to all come from affluent families where nobody has to bother about jobs and earning a livelihood and pursue a passion of dancing and indulge in dance-offs to put down each other.&nbsp;

A part of D'Souza's ABCD franchise, 'Street Dancer 3D' too has a dance competition at its backdrop. Sehej( Varun Dhawan) wants to win the biggest dance battle- Ground Zero- for his elder brother who at one point of time was close to winning the coveted trophy but suffered an accident that left him with a limp. Now, Sehej and his group called the 'Street Dancer' want to win the prize for the big brother. They need practice and are aware that the rival gang - The Rule Breakers- a group of Pakistani youngsters led by Inayat (Shraddha Kapoor) are better than them.&nbsp;

The two gangs often clash in a restaurant that's managed by Anna (Prabhudeva) who himself feels that if the two groups work together, they can win the competition. Inayat's purpose of winning the competition is different from Sehej's though. She wants to use the prize money to help illegal immigrants of Indian and Pakistan go back home. Would she be able to convince Sehej to join her group for a greater good and be able to win the competition forms the rest of the story.&nbsp;

Now, on paper, the story seems to be well-intended- a tale of a group of talented dancers wanting to bring positive change to society through dance. Sure, why not! But when it comes to implementation, D'Souza films take a very different route where the main plot seems like a prop of a very elaborate, long dance program.&nbsp;

A film that's called 'Sreet Dancer' is bound to be about dance, no doubt. You know what you are getting into when you start watching the film. Like his previous films, D'Souza uses a lot of reality TV dancers as characters in the film- giving the choreographed sequences an authentic feel but after a point, the thrill of seeing of these dancers do multiple backflips, and some unimaginable limb movements- wears off making the dance routines appear repetitive.&nbsp;

Released on the Republic Day weekend- it also tries to pelt out patriotism through dance- pitting India and Pakistan against each other, using the Indian tricolour in the final dance-off and making everyone dance to desi tunes.&nbsp;

Acting and logic are not the high points of this film. A film on ultimate dance competition- the rules are fluid where anyone can join any group at any point in time. The competition runs on emotions and not logic.&nbsp;

Among the actors, Nora Fatehi and Aparshakti Khurrana who show some spark in a story that doesn't give anyone any scope for acting. But these two actors still manage to make their presence felt-which is commendable. Khurana, who is now almost the go-to person for all supporting characters in Hindi films- brings the right amount of vulnerability to his character. Fatehi plays Varun Dhawan's girlfriend and adds the much-needed oomph to the film and the dance sequences. An exceptionally good dancer, Fatehi gets a few lines and manages to impress in those scenes.&nbsp;

Varun Dhawan tries earnestly to perform in the film that resorts to dance sequences for everything but we've seen better films of the actor. He may be a good dancer but that alone cannot salvage this film. Shraddha Kapoor and Prabhudeva deliver what they have already done in previous films.

Should you be watching this film? Only if you need to learn a few complicated dance steps.&nbsp;

'Street Dancer 3D' review: The story acts as a prop in this very elaborate dance show

&quot;If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I&#39;ll bet they&#39;d live a lot differently,&quot; said Calvin to his best friend Hobbes in one those many imaginary conversations he had with his stuffed toy. But isn&#39;t that true?

We have lived in the national capital -&nbsp;Delhi - for years now? And how many a times have we seen the stars on a regular basis? How many a times did we strike a conversation with them? How many times did we sit in the favourite part of our terrace or on a random bench in a park or just take a walk in any random road and look at those beautiful shinning creatures?

The majority of us have been living in the&nbsp;9 am to 5 pm&nbsp;kind of jobs. Us journalists we never know when our day starts and when it ends. All the anger, the frustration, the pressure comes out in a way that we do not like. In a city like Mumbai, the people probably have the sea where they can go sit, relax, process their thoughts and walk away relaxed.

But we in Delhi have nothing to call our own. The parks, the monuments, the ivory houses, the VVIP traffics, each household boasting of three to four cars each, does not help us get peace. Please do not get me wrong they pretty much make Delhi what it is, as a city. But think again can we call them our own?

Add to it, the air pollution woes in the city have reached hazardous levels, to say the least. Does it not give you chills to not see stars in the sky in the night? Or enjoy the sun coming out early in the morning? Do you not miss the skyline when the sun leaves us with its beautiful shades? Guessing, we have all but forgotten what it feels like to breathe in fresh air in the city.

Now, how is this for a change!

When was the last time you packed your rug-sack and just left? When was the last time you took a bus ride to the hills, alone? When was the last time you walked out on the streets and got fresh air to breath? When was the last time you stood on your balcony and saw the stars?

For me, it was as latest as last week! After earning a week&#39;s off from my hectic work culture, I packed my rucksack and set out all by myself. The destination, I had no clue about. I told myself, I will head to the Kashmere Gate ISBT and sit on the first bus that leaves the terminal. And as fate would have it. The first bus that left the terminal was to Jammu. I hopped on the bus and left for Jammu.

This was my first-ever journey to the state of Jammu and Kashmir. I quickly called up my friend in Srinagar, informing her that I am finally coming to her state. Shabnam Khan - my batchmate from college -&nbsp;has been behind my life to visit her for five years. So the excitement in her voice was evident.

As the bus rolled away from the city limits, passing Sonipat, Panipat and&nbsp;Ambala, the skies got clearer, the air cleaner and the temperature started to drop. The bus did stop at some small dhabba along the way but I happily crossed the road for a foot-long sub. Not cause I am not a fan of dhabba food but cause I wanted to keep my belly healthy for the trip. And surprisingly the subway station served some really hot coffee too that held.

As the bus began its journey after a pit-stop we were back on the road again. It was now time to close our window panes and the winds grew colder. Sadly for me, I had to glance out the window through the pane! But music in my ears winds around me food in my belly and coffee in my hands, I would say I was up for the remainder of the sojourn.

The bus came to halt at a place called Lakhanpur, a village that connects the rest of India with Jammu via road. As I got off the bus I could see smoke come out of my mouth due to the cold conditions. I looked at the coffee bottle in a makeshift shop along the highway and said, &quot;Why not!&quot; With music in my ears, winds around me and coffee in my hands, we began our journey to Jammu.

We reached Jammu close to&nbsp;2:30&nbsp;in the night. The moment I got off the bus, the cold hit me - it was close to 10-degree Celsius - and there were private cab drivers looking for passengers to ferry from Jammu to Srinagar. It was quite surprising to see the night-long bus and cab services from Jammu to Srinagar. Fortunately for me, I found one and thus began my journey to Srinagar by&nbsp;3 am.

When pollution makes it impossible to breathe, pack your rug-sack and just leave for the hills.
