In their eight World Cup appearances since returning from the wilderness of the apartheid era,&nbsp;South&nbsp;Africa&nbsp;have made four semi-finals but never the championship match.

"As a&nbsp;South&nbsp;African team, we know we're going to have that chip on our block, or that narrative that we have to get over," said Bavuma.

"That's always going to be there until we win a trophy."

Bavuma admits that he has occasionally used the word "choker".

But his team should be buoyed by being free of the baggage of past self-destruction -- seven members of the 15-man squad in India have never played in a World Cup.

That figure includes the 33-year-old Bavuma.

"I think there are guys who believe that it applies to this team, there are guys who don't believe that it applies to this team," he said of the "chokers" tag.

"I think the belief amongst the team, that's the most important bit I bring up to just make sure that we're not kind of skirting around the issue.

"It's that acceptance that it would always be there within the team, within this group, within guys who are to come. Hopefully they don't have to experience that."

The Proteas begin their World Cup against 1996 champions Sri Lanka in New Delhi on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium where they were bowled out for a paltry 99 on their most recent visit last October.

Bavuma missed the game through illness but said the performance that day illustrates the tricky nature posed by the challenges of playing in India.

"With the World Cup and playing each team once, any team can win on the day, so if you're not there on the day, you can get caught with your pants down," he added.

This World Cup will be the last for star batsman Quinton de Kock after the 30-year-old said in the rest of his career he intends to focus on lucrative Twenty20 franchise cricket.

In his 10-year international career, De Kock has piled up more than 11,000 runs over the three formats with 24 centuries.

"It's becoming tougher and tougher for guys to overlook the opportunity of the lucrativeness of playing in franchise T20 leagues," said Bavuma.

"But for me, it's when you're within the team and you have that opportunity to wear that patch, that you do it with honour, you do it with pride, and you don't take anything for granted."

"With the People’s Liberation Army Navy expanding its presence in the Indian Ocean, Chinese research vessels frequently make trips to the region, primarily in the eastern Indian Ocean. In 2019, they encroached into India’s EEZ, prompting intervention by the Indian Navy,"&nbsp; said Commodore Singh.

"Since then, they have stayed out of Indian waters but continue to operate in the eastern Indian Ocean, conducting seemingly benign activities such as seabed mapping and resource assessment. However, their actual focus lies in collecting hydrographic data, including temperature, pressure, and salinity profiles, which is crucial for submarine operations."&nbsp;

Judge Sarah Huggett of Sydney's Downing Centre District Court acquitted the 32-year-old as he was relieved from the trial charges. The incident happened after Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup exit in November 2022, with Gunathilaka staying back in Australia for the trial.

"The evidence establishes that there was no opportunity for the accused to remove the condom during intercourse because that intercourse was continuous," the judge said in handing down the verdict.

"I find that the evidence regarding the complaint far from supports the complainant. Rather it undermines the reliability of her evidence," she further stated in the verdict.

<h2>What was the incident?</h2>

In November 2022, Gunathilaka and a woman dated after sharing texts on social media app Tinder, the pair would later meet for drinks at the Opera Bar in Sydney. It is reported that the pair would have pizza together in the Sydney CBD and then catch a ferry to the woman's eastern suburban&nbsp;home.

However, the meeting at the victim’s home in Sydney resulted in violent conduct, with the woman accusing Gunathilaka of various acts of aggression and violence. According to Espncricinfo, Gunathilaka slapped the woman on the buttocks, forcefully kissing her bruising her lips, and choking her during sex.

After the incident was reported to the Sydney Police, Gunathilaka was investigated for four charges, including stealthing. He was arrested at the Hyatt Regency hours before the Sri Lankan cricket team was due to fly out of Australia, having faced elimination from the T20 World Cup. The player had claimed not guilty and claimed innocence during the trial period.&nbsp; The victim woman’s friends played a crucial role in the verdict as they described her fragile and distraught a day after Gunathilaka visited her home in Sydney.

During the trial period, Gunathilaka was unable to travel outside Australia and he was also frozen out by the national team. This also resulted in him missing out on the ODI World Cup berth in India, while the national team also missed out on his services during the qualification phase of the tournament.

"We have all mean many Sri Lankans have died to terrorism. So, therefore, our position on these matters, I think is very clear because we have endured and we have suffered. And as a country that has gone through that tolerance for terrorism is zero tolerance," he added.

Ties between India and Canada have been strained after Justin Trudeau on September 18 alleged India’s involvement in the fatal shooting of Khalistan Tiger Force chief Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada.

Nijjar, who was a designated terrorist in India, was killed outside a Gurdwara in Canada's Surrey on June 18. India, however, rejected the allegations, terming them "absurd" and "motivated".

“We have seen and rejected the statement of the Canadian Prime Minister in their Parliament, as also the statement by their Foreign Minister," the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.

"Allegations of Government of India's involvement in any act of violence in Canada are absurd and motivated," the MEA added in its statement.

India also expelled a senior Canadian diplomat in a reciprocal move to Canada expelling a senior Indian diplomat in light of the claim of New Delhi's involvement in the killing of Nijjar.

On Thursday, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the allegations made by Canada regarding the "potential links" of India behind the killing of Khalistani extremist Hardeep Singh Nijjar are “politically driven”.

"Yes, I do think there is a degree of prejudice here. They have made allegations and taken action against them. To us, it seems that these allegations by the government of Canada are primarily politically driven," Bagchi said while addressing a weekly presser.

So, this is questionable, and we have dealt with it in the past. I am not surprised that sometimes PM Trudeau comes out with outrageous and unsubstantiated allegations."

"That has actually affected our relationship. The Foreign Ministry has a different take on that. Ministry of Global Affairs has very clearly said that Sri Lanka did not go through a genocide, whereas PM Trudeau as a politician stands up and says that genocide had taken place. That itself is contradictory to each other. That doesn't help," said Sabry.

Sabry stressed the importance of not interfering in the internal matters of sovereign countries.

He was arrested under Prevention of Offences Relating to Sports Act for trying to attempt to convince players to fix matches in 2020 edition of the LPL. As per the law, "any person who solicits, entices, persuades, or instructs any person… to influence the result, progress, conduct … of any sport, commits the offence of corruption in sports."

While the bowler was himself not part of the edition, and is believed to have been outside Sri Lanka, he's alleged to have contacted a few players playing in the tournament for fixing. The probe into the matter was launched in August and the cricketer was banned from leaving the country.

The right-arm spinner made his debut in 2011-12 season and went on to represent Sri Lanka in one Test, 49 ODIs and 24 T20Is. He was an important part of Lanka's 2014 T20 World Cup campaign which Sri Lanka had won after beating Indian in the final by six wickets. He took four wickets in six matches with a best of 2/3.

Overall, the offie has 53 wickets to his name in ODIs with a best of 4/13. In T20Is, Senanayake took a total of 25 wickets with a best performance of 4/46.
