President Joe Biden declined on Sunday to call on New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign over sexual misconduct allegations, saying he wanted to await the outcome of an investigation into the matter.&nbsp;

Asked on returning from Delaware if Cuomo, a fellow Democrat, should step down, Biden told reporters: "I think the investigation is underway and we should see what it brings us."&nbsp;

Cuomo faces accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct levelled by at least seven women, including former aides, and has come under pressure from disclosures that his administration withheld the number of nursing home residents killed in the state by Covid-19.&nbsp;

On Friday, New York's two Democratic US senators, Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, and most of the state's congressional delegation, including leading progressive Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, urged Cuomo, now in his third term as governor, to resign.&nbsp;

Cuomo, 63, who is divorced, repeated his denial of the allegations on Friday and said it was 'reckless and dangerous' for politicians to ask him to resign before they have all the facts.&nbsp;

"Women have a right to come forward and be heard, and I encourage that fully. But I also want to be clear: There is still a question of the truth. I did not do what has been alleged, period,” Cuomo said on a call with reporters.&nbsp;

Asked if he ever had consensual romantic relationships with any of the women, Cuomo said he never intended to make anyone feel uncomfortable, and was sorry if he did.&nbsp;

On Sunday, Democratic US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi declined to join the call for Cuomo's resignation, telling ABC's "This Week" programme the allegations must be investigated.&nbsp;

"What these women have said must be treated with respect. They are credible and serious charges," Pelosi said. "The governor should look inside his heart - he loves New York - to see if he can govern effectively."&nbsp;

In a lawsuit alleging Hollywood actor James Franco intimidated students at an acting and film school, a settlement has finally been reached as charges of sexual misconduct were framed against him. He was founded at the school under exploitative sexual situations.

A settlement had been reached in the class-action suit brought by former students at the now-defunct school, Studio 4. It was filed on February 11 but has now been made public.&nbsp;

The lawsuit claimed that James Franco had pushed his students into performing in increasingly explicit sex scenes on camera in an “orgy type setting” that went far beyond those acceptable on Hollywood film sets. It alleged that the Hollywood actor “sought to create a pipeline of young women who were subjected to his personal and professional sexual exploitation in the name of education,” and that students were led to believe roles in Franco’s films would be available to those who went along. The said classes took place at Studio 4, which opened in 2014 and closed in 2017.

The lawsuit was first filed in 2019 by actresses and ex-students Sarah Tither-Kaplan and Toni Gaal. According to the agreement, they will drop all claims.&nbsp;

In a previous court filing, James Franco’s attorneys, while praising the #MeToo movement that helped inspire the lawsuit, called its claims “false and inflammatory, legally baseless and brought as a class action with the obvious goal of grabbing as much publicity as possible for attention-hungry Plaintiffs.”&nbsp;

Previously, James had appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/entertainment-ashley-judd-praises-james-franco-for-his-response-to-sexual-misconduct-claims-29527">called the allegations untrue</a>. He had said, “If I’ve done something wrong, I will fix it. I have to.”&nbsp;

An adviser to UN Women, Ravi Karkara, has lost his appeal at a tribunal after he contested the charges of sexual misconduct which has led to him losing his job at the United Nations.

Karkara was responsible for promoting gender equality and youth partnerships at UN Women. However, he was dismissed in 2018 after he was accused of harassment against younger men, one of whom was an intern.

The accused had filed a case in the UN dispute tribunal contesting his sacking, and arguing the charges against him were false. However, now, the UN tribunal has ruled against Karkara once again.

He was dismissed from his position after the UN Women had found him guilty of harassing two non-UN personnel, an intern. He had also used his work email account to circulate pornography. The matter had come to light in June 2017 when Steve Lee accused Karkara of using his position and authority and demanded sexual favours in return of opportunities and access to senior working groups in the establishment.

While Karkara said Lee had misunderstood the messages, Lee claimed he had been asked to help the officer by taking his luggage to a Montreal hotel room, and upon reaching in the room, Karkara had opened pornography websites on his laptop and grabbed his genitals through the trousers.

It was also, now, revealed a second unnamed complaint has also been filed against the senior adviser who has accused him of sending his pictures from a bath and had asked the same in return. A similar complaint was lodged by an intern who also accused Karkara of demanding pictures.

Karkara, however, accused UN Women of fabricating complaints and proof and said the investigation conducted against him was biased. However, the tribunal has now ruled that the UN Women's decision was based on "clear and convincing evidence".

The tribunal said, "credible oral victim testimony alone may be fully sufficient to support a finding of serious misconduct, without further corroboration being required."

Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey was accused in a civil lawsuit on Wednesday of sexual assault and battery in the 1980s by actor Anthony Rapp and a second, unnamed person when both plaintiffs were about 14.

The suit, filed in New York state court in Manhattan, refers to the same alleged incident that Rapp first recounted in an October 2017 BuzzFeed interview that triggered Spacey’s fall from grace in Hollywood.

Spacey did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The actor, who won Oscars for the films ‘American Beauty’ and ‘The Usual Suspects’ and a Golden Globe for the TV political drama ‘House of Cards,’ has largely retreated from public life in the past three years.

Spacey in 2017 said he did not remember the encounter Rapp described but added, “If I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.”

Spacey, now 61, <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/actor-kevin-spacey-declares-he-is-gay-23119">came out as gay in 2017.</a>

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/entertainment/struggles-are-same-says-kevin-spacey-comparing-himself-to-people-losing-jobs-due-to-covid-19-297114">'Struggles are same', says Kevin Spacey comparing himself to people losing jobs due to COVID-19</a>

Rapp, best known for starring in the Broadway musical ‘Rent,’ alleged in the lawsuit that Spacey “engaged in an unwanted sexual advance” with him when he was 14, during a party at Spacey’s home in 1986.

The second person, identified only as C.D., alleged that he and Spacey had oral and anal sex and engaged in other sexual acts on several occasions in the early 1980s when the plaintiff was approximately 14 years old.

Both men are seeking unspecified damages for emotional distress.

Rapp’s initial accusation, part of the #MeToo movement against sexual misconduct, led to Spacey being dropped from “House of Cards” and his scenes in the movie ‘All the Money in the World’ were re-shot with actor Christopher Plummer.

Rapp and the second man filed their lawsuit under New York’s 2019 Child Victims Act, their lawyer Peter J. Saghir said. The act gave people one year, later extended to two, to sue over sexual abuse allegations regardless of when they occurred.
“This lawsuit sends a strong message that no matter how wealthy, powerful or famous you may be you are not above the law,” Saghir said in a statement.

Prosecutors in Massachusetts in 2019 dropped criminal charges against Spacey of felony indecent assault and battery involving an 18 year-old man in a bar in 2016. Spacey had pleaded not guilty. The case was dropped after the alleged victim declined to testify.

A high-ranking Cambodian police official has been sacked over sexual misconduct at work in a landmark case in the Southeast Asian nation but will not be prosecution to "protect the dignity" of the women involved, a police official said.

Two-star general and Kampong provincial police chief Ouk Kosal was suspended last month pending an investigation into accusations of sexual misconduct made by four junior female officers that hit the headlines.&nbsp;

In a rare public outing of sexual misconduct by an official, he was accused of forcing the female officers to perform sex acts at work under the threat of blocking their careers.

A deputy national police chief Pen Vibol, who led the investigation, said Kosal had been sacked and would be demoted to the rank of colonel.

But he said the female officers had chosen to not press criminal charges of sexual assault, which is punishable by up to three years jail, prompting calls for the government to do so.

"This is an unprecedented case where, instead of asking our female police officers to be cautious, we need to strengthen the ethics among leaders of our police units," Vibol told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

"The fact that they became victims is embarrassing enough. They are satisfied ... that justice has been delivered and they can return to work and restore their dignity."

National police spokesman Chhay Kim Khoeun said there was insufficient evidence to build a criminal case against Kosal, who has maintained that he is innocent.

The women officers and Kosal could not be reached.

Pradeep Wagle, Cambodia representative for the Office of the United Nations' High Commissioner for Human Rights, said Cambodia was obliged under international law to conduct a full and credible investigation and hold Kosal accountable.

The case hit headlines during an escalating public debate over the treatment of women in Cambodia, where a draft law to restrict what women can wear has raised concerns of further entrenching a culture of victim blaming in sex crimes.

The accusers said in a report to Interior Minister Sar Kheng that previous complaints about Kosal's misconduct had been met with ridicule and threats and it was only when their accusations hit the press that action was taken.

Women rights' campaigners criticised the Interior Ministry's decision to not pursue charges against Kosal.

"(This) sends the disturbing message that sexual assault and harassment is tolerated in Cambodia," said Chak Sopheap, head of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights.

"Sexual and gender-based violence cannot continue to continue to be met with impunity, as it has been for too long in this country."

The Women's Affairs Ministry did not respond to requests for comment.

Speaking to media, Weinstein’s spokesman, Juda Engelmayer said, “He was having chest pains and the Rikers staff decided for safety to send him back to Bellevue now. According to reports, Harvey Weinstein was put on a&nbsp;stretcher -- a precautionary measure and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.&nbsp;

As for the ruling,&nbsp;Justice James Burke handed the sentence to Weinstein after prosecutor Joan Illuzzi asked the judge to impose 25 years or "near" 25 years in prison for his conviction on a charge of criminal sexual act in the first degree involving Haleyi and to impose a consecutive sentence for the third-degree rape conviction involving Mann.

The defense team had pleaded for a minimum of five years behind bars.

Lenin Moreno, the President of <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/ecuador-resumes-oil-exports-curbed-by-protests-257143">Ecuador</a> recently apologised for his earlier comments about victims of sexual assault.

He had said that women complain about harassment only when the perpetrators are ''ugly''.

During a speech on Friday in the port city of Guayaquil, Moreno claimed that men faced denouncement for harassment, and claimed that ''at times, with harassment, they torment ugly people''.

"That is to say, that the harassment is when it comes from an ugly person," he added. "But if the person looks good according to the standards, they tend not to think necessarily that it is harassment."

The words of the president infuriated people on social media and invited scorn from women's right activists.

"We, men, at permanently risk of the danger of being accused of harassment. Harassment. And I see that women, many times, denounce harassment, that's true, and it's good that they do so. But at times, with harassment, they torment ugly people. That is to say, that the harassment is when it comes from an ugly person. But if the person looks good according to the standards, they tend not to think necessarily that it is harassment. And at my age, it would not be harassment, but sexual harassment", the president said.

The congresswoman of the ruling party, Soleda Buendía alluded to the comment on Twitter and said that ''Moreno justifies and reproduces violence against women. You can't joke about harassment, rape, femicide, trafficking, sexual exploitation.... Nothing justifies expressions that revictimise us!

Lenin Moreno, the President of Ecuador recently apologised for his earlier comments about victims of sexual assault. "But if the person looks good according to the standards, they tend not to think necessarily that it is harassment." The words of the president infuriated people on social media and invited scorn from women's right activists. Ecuador president suggests women report abuse only from 'ugly' men; apologises after backlash

Dozens of potential jurors were excused Tuesday from serving in the rape trial of Harvey Weinstein, including two women who said they had been assaulted in the past and one who said a close friend had an encounter with the movie producer.

In all, 50 of 120 potential jurors called on the second day of jury selection were dismissed by noon, most after saying they could not be impartial in the case.

"I read every article and it`s gonna be very hard (to be impartial) for someone who`s been assaulted multiple times," one woman said.
"I was assaulted in my past, so I don’t think I can be a fair juror," another said.

A third woman said she had "a very close friend who had an encounter with the defendant."

Many other jurors simply said they could not be fair, without giving a reason.

Weinstein, 67, has pleaded not guilty to charges of assaulting two women in New York. He faces life in prison if convicted on the most serious charge, predatory sexual assault.

Trial began on Monday and could last as long as two months.

Earlier on Wednesday, Weinstein`s lawyers asked to bar high-profile lawyer Gloria Allred from attending the trial, saying they might call her as a witness, but Justice James Burke denied the request. Allred represents three of the women who are expected to testify against Weinstein.

"Harvey Weinstein`s defense appeared to want to interfere with my ability to represent my three clients who will be witnesses in his trial," Allred told reporters outside the courthouse.

Since 2017, more than 80 women, including many famous actresses, have accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct dating back decades.

The Weinstein allegations helped fuel the #MeToo movement which encouraged women to go public with misconduct allegations against powerful men.

Weinstein has denied the allegations, saying any sexual encounters he had were consensual.

The former film producer made his mark with critically acclaimed films such as "The English Patient" and "Shakespeare in Love."
Burke has denied requests by Weinstein`s legal team to move the trial out of the media glare of Manhattan or to delay the start given the challenges of finding impartial jurors.

On Monday, Los Angeles District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced charges against Weinstein of sexual assault of two unidentified women in 2013.

Burke said the jury would be instructed that the charges in California are not evidence of guilt.

Prosecutors need 12 jurors to back a conviction, while Weinstein needs just one holdout for a hung jury.

Judge excuses dozens of New Yorkers from serving on Harvey Weinstein rape trial jury

Journalist Priya Ramani on Thursday told a court here that she had no 'mala fide' and 'extraneous' motive for making sexual harassment allegations former Union Minister MJ Akbar.

During her cross-examination in a defamation case filed by Akbar, Ramani said that it would be wrong to suggest that her allegations harmed the reputation of the complainant -- MJ Akbar.

The cross-examination of Ramani and her friend Nilofer was conducted before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Vishal Pahuja as the case was transferred to his court by ACMM Samar Vishal.

"It is wrong to suggest that my Tweets and publication had nothing to do with 'doing the right thing'. It is wrong to suggest that what I have done by publishing the Tweets was wrong, defamatory and malicious," she submitted before the court.

"It is wrong to suggest that my conduct as a journalist has been unethical as I had neither identified my sources nor attributed credits," she replied during the cross-examination.
Earlier, Nilofer's statement was recorded before ACMM Samar Vishal during which she briefly narrated the alleged incident of Ramani's harassment.

"I was at Nariman Point (in Mumbai) when Priya requested me to meet one hour before the interview so that I can prepare her for the interview. She came at around 6 and met at Promenade. I asked her current affairs questions which I imagined that she could be asked during the interview. A few minutes before 7, we walked to Oberoi where I dropped her and came back," Nilofer said.

"Later that night, Priya called me on my landline. She sounded upset and distort. I asked her -- Why? She told me that the interview had not gone as we discussed. To begin, the interview did not happen in a coffee shop or restaurant but was straight up called to Akbar's room."

She continued: "Ramani described feeling extremely uncomfortable as he offered her an alcoholic drink and was himself drinking the same. She also described him singing old Hindi songs, which is highly unprofessional."

"At one point, she explained as to how Akbar patted a portion of the sofa and asked her to sit close to him. The details she described were so bizarre and inappropriate that I have a picture of it in my mind till this day," Nilofer narrated.

Senior advocate Geeta Luthra, appearing for MJ Akbar, objected to Nilofer's statement.

"She is like the third ghost in the room. She must have seen the colour of the Vodka," Luthra contended.

Another witness will be cross-examined on December 10, on the next date of hearing in a criminal defamation complaint filed by Akbar against Ramani for accusing him of sexual misconduct.&nbsp;

No mala fide motive for making allegations against MJ Akbar: Priya Ramani

Actor-model Josh Kloss, who featured in singer-songwriter Katy Perry`s `Teenage Dream` music video in 2010, has accused the singer of sexual misconduct, claiming that she pulled down his pants at a party, exposing him before all his friends.

Kloss shared a post on his Instagram account and wrote that the 34-year-old singer was cold to him when others were around but friendly when they were alone. He also said she invited him to a strip club, but he turned it down, reported Fox News.

Kloss also alleged that he and Perry ran into each other several times after her divorce from actor-comedian Russell Brand, and that`s when she allegedly committed sexual misconduct.

"This one time I brought a friend who was dying to meet her. It was Johny Wujek`s birthday party at Moonlight Rollerway. And when I saw her, we hugged and she was still my crush. But as I turned to introduce my friend, she pulled my Adidas sweats and underwear out as far as she could to show a couple of her guy friends and the crowd around us my p--is," Kloss recalled.

"Can you imagine how pathetic and embarrassed I felt? I just say this now because our culture is set on proving men of power are perverse. But females with power are just as disgusting," he added.

The fear sticks with you, when you are censored to protect someone else’s image. But in return treated like a prostitute and exposed in front of a group of her friends and other random people. Then you are shocked and you block it out, because you watch the face of children being uplifted by positive music she sang. And your mind is stuck trying to do your job and protect her bs image or be honest and help the global dialogue about power and abuse. And you hear over and over a million times that Males are the great evil on this planet. Meanwhile you know the truth POWER empowers what is corrupt in people, regardless of their gender. Folks I am putting us both out on display to increase and enlighten everyone. I don’t want money for this, Many of you project your own ambitions. I don’t want fame from this, that is why I stomached it and kept working, and kept supporting the “teenage dream” image. And this anniversary, and time elapse made me realize hey now is the time to let it out and let it go. Not one more day of hearing “How was Katy Perry?”</a>

Katy Perry's 'Teenage Dream' co-star accuses singer of sexual misconduct

Two shareholder lawsuits filed this week accused the board of Google parent Alphabet of playing a direct role in covering up sexual misconduct claims against two former executives over the last five years.

The company declined to comment.

Both of the lawsuits seek to force Google to change its governance and oversight to stop future workplace conduct issues. They also call for Alphabet directors to pay damages to Alphabet for allegedly breaching their fiduciary duties and engaging in corporate waste.

The allegations stem primarily from large severance payments to Andy Rubin, who led Google's Android mobile operating division until 2014, and Amit Singhal, head of Google's search unit until 2016. Company investigations into both men had found accusations of sexual harassment against them to be credible, according to the lawsuits.

Rubin and Singhal have denied the allegations. Google Chief Executive Sundar Pichai apologized last year to employees for the companies' past handling of sexual misconduct cases and vowed to improve practices.

One of the two lawsuits in San Mateo County Superior Court in California cites minutes from Alphabet board and board committee meetings where the executives' situations were discussed.

Plaintiff James Martin obtained the documents through a "shareholder inspection demand," according to the lawsuit. Google provided them on the condition they not be published, according to his attorneys, and details from the minutes are redacted across at least eight pages in the 82-page lawsuit filed on Thursday.

Martin's attorney, Frank Bottini, said his team plans to show that Google suffered hundreds of millions of dollars in damages including payouts made to executives accused of sexual misconduct, lost productivity from employees around the world walking off the job briefly in November to protest the payouts and hits to its brand reputation.

The employee demonstrations followed a New York Times report in October that said Google in 2014 gave a $90 million exit package to Rubin.

Ellen Winick Stross, an attorney for Rubin, said on Thursday that Martin's lawsuit, "like much of the recent media coverage, mischaracterizes Andy’s departure from Google and sensationalizes claims made about Andy by his ex-wife. Andy left Google voluntarily. Andy denies any misconduct, and we look forward to telling his story in court."

Employee organizers said they welcomed the lawsuits as they continue to push for further changes, including an employee representative on Alphabet's board.

The lawsuit calls for Alphabet to add at least three independent directors to its board and move to a "one share, one vote" stock structure to increase shareholder oversight of management decisions. Alphabet executives currently hold voting control through shares with 10 votes each.

"We'd like to see ... meaningful change in the tone at the company, the policies, the treatment of women, the reporting of sexual harassment and other issues," Bottini said.

The second case, brought on Wednesday by Northern California Pipe Trades Pension Plan and Teamsters Local 272 Labor Management Pension Fund, cites company filings and media reports. They are represented by the law firm Cohen Milstein Sellers and Toll.

Alphabet board sued on allegations of sexual misconduct cover-up

Les Moonves, the onetime head of CBS, was fired for cause and will not receive a severance package in the wake of sexual misconduct allegations, the television network announced Monday.

Moonves, who transformed the corporation into the most watched television network in the country, was one of the most respected executives in Hollywood until he was first publicly accused.

Two articles published by The New Yorker -- in July and in September -- detailed allegations against the 69-year-old television titan from 12 different women. He resigned in September.

At the time, CBS said Moonves and the network would donate $20 million to supporting the #MeToo movement and equality for women in the workplace.

CBS said a company investigation found Moonves guilty of "willful and material misfeasance," and said he refused to cooperate with the probe.

He had been expected to receive up to $120 million as part of a severance package that will now not materialize, as it was dependent on the results of the investigation.

Moonves's lawyer rejected CBS's findings, calling them "without merit."

"The press was informed of these baseless conclusions before Mr Moonves, further damaging his name, reputation, career and legacy," attorney Andrew Levander said in a statement.&nbsp;

"Mr Moonves vehemently denies any nonconsensual sexual relations and cooperated extensively and fully with investigators."

While the investigation found that harassment and retaliation were "not pervasive at the network," it also uncovered previous incidents of "improper and unprofessional conduct."

"The company's historical policies, practices and structures have not reflected a high institutional priority on preventing harassment and retaliation," CBS said, citing the probe.&nbsp;

It said investigators found that "inadequate" resources had been allocated to human resources, training and development, diversity and inclusion.

"Employees also cited past incidents in which HR and the company did not hold high performers accountable for their conduct and protect employees from retaliation," CBS added.

But the network said it had already implemented corrective measures, naming a new "chief people officer" responsible for human resources and retaining outside expert advisors "to develop other initiatives for promoting a workplace culture of dignity, transparency, respect and inclusion."

CBS has also seen other harassment claims.

On Friday, it confirmed having paid $9.5 million to actress Eliza Dushku, who was written off the script of the series "Bull" after complaining of harassment by the lead actor.

A lot of prominent faces from Bollywood were named in the #MeToo movement a few months back. Many of the filmmakers, actors and technicians were accused of sexual misconduct by women. Among them, filmmaker Sajid Khan's name came up in multiple accounts by women. Khan, who has directed several hit comedy films, denied the accusations but his cousin, actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar states that he should apologise to those he had offended.&nbsp;

Akhtar says he feels a sense of guilt for not being aware of the indecent behaviour of his cousin.&nbsp;

Sajid was accused of sexual harassment by two women -- actor Saloni Chopra and a journalist, following which he stepped down as the director of 'Housefull 4'.&nbsp;When the allegations had surfaced, Farhan, who has been a vocal supporter of #MeToo movement, was one of the first celebrities to react and had termed them as "shocking."

"Everytime something like this has happened in the public domain, I've been very vocal with my opinion. When it came to someone within my family, I felt silence on that front would be very, very hypocritical," Farhan said.

"So pretty much on the first day when three women came out and spoke, I felt it was important for me to speak out. Sajid, being my brother, I need to now work with him, try to figure out how he can see this thing through and how it is that he can make the women who have been affected by his actions, somehow feel better," he added.&nbsp;
The actor was in conversation with journalist Barkha Dutt at We The Women event here.&nbsp;

When Barkha said an apology alone would not suffice as sexual violation is a crime, Farhan said, "Absolutely. Whether stuff like this needs to go into the ambit of court is for them to decide. These are the things he (Sajid) has to face."&nbsp;

"To start with apologising is a big step. To say 'I am sorry about what I did' is a big step, it can make a person feel a lot better," he added.

Farhan said when he first heard about the accusations against his cousin, he had conflicting emotions.&nbsp;

"It was a surprise, disappointment and strangely because when it's a member of your family, you also feel a certain level of guilt. It's happened to all of us in the past when we hear something like this and say 'but how come someone so close to him didn't know.'&nbsp;

"The truth is I didn't. If I did know I would've spoken about it way before the story broke. There was this certain guilt about that, how could this be going on and I had no idea. So there were conflicted emotions," he said.&nbsp;

Farhan feels he wishes he had known about Sajid's behaviour and said three women spoke to him privately, accusing the filmmaker of the same.&nbsp;

"There were two-three women who got in touch with me privately to say 'listen you should know whatever is being said is true and he has behaved in a similar way with us as well.' These are the people I've known for 12, 15, 20 years and meet them very often but nobody ever mentioned this to me. I asked them why didn't you ever tell me?&nbsp;
"I have been doing something with MARD for the last five years, I wouldn't have been on his side if you had brought it to my attention but somehow they weren't comfortable to speak about it," he said.&nbsp;

But the actor says it is ultimately a woman's decision when she wants to come out and tell her story and she should be given that environment and space.&nbsp;
"If someone has behaved badly with a woman and she hasn't spoken about it for ten, 20 or 30 years, it's her prerogative when she wants to speak. Even if someone tells me privately, like these three women, I cannot take their names.&nbsp;

"Can I go to the public with that? I can't because she will be answerable then for the rest of her life and may be she first want to be. It's a woman's agency," he added.&nbsp;
Also present at the panel discussion were politician Milind Deora and comedian Cyrus Broacha.&nbsp;

While Sajid denied the allegations, even as he quit 'Houseful 4', his sister, filmmaker, choreographer Farah Khan took to Twitter to lend her support to the affected women. Khan wrote, "This is a heartbreaking time for my family.We have to work through some very difficult issues. If my brother has behaved in this manner he has a lot to atone for.I don’t in any way endorse this behavior and Stand in solidarity with any woman who has been hurt."

Farhan Akhtar on allegations against cousin Sajid Khan: Felt guilty for not knowing

The Editors Guild of India Friday put out an updated list of its members, which continued to include former Union minister M J Akbar and former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal, who are both accused of sexual misconduct.

Their names have been featured in the updates list of the guild members despite of the calls for their removal within the media body.

Akbar has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women over his tenure as a senior editor as part of the #MeToo movement, while Tejpal has been charged with rape and is currently out on bail.

The list also includes senior journalist Gautam Adhikari, who has also been accused of sexual misconduct.

Akbar had resigned last month as the minister of state for external affairs in the wake of sexual harassment allegations levelled against him.

The Editors Guild of India last month had asked him to withdraw the criminal defamation case he filed against journalist Priya Ramani.

It had also offered legal support to women journalists who have levelled the allegations against Akbar in case he did not withdraw the present case or files such cases against other women too.

Earlier this month, the Guild had said it is tracking with "great concern" fresh allegations of sexual misconduct against Akbar and a decision on his membership of the top editors' body will be taken after "due process" is completed.

The Guild's statement on his membership had come after a US-based editor of a leading media house accused the former Union minister of raping her in India 23 years ago.

"In accordance with the decision of the Guild's last EGM (extraordinary general meeting), as ratified at the subsequent meeting of the executive, membership of those editors, whose profession has changed from journalism goes dormant. Mr Akbar's membership is also therefore dormant," the statement had said.

Yoga teacher and author, Ira Trivedi has taken Chetan Bhagat to court and accused him of 'maligning' her reputation. &nbsp;A few days ago, Trivedi had accused Bhagat of sexual misconduct. #MeToo: Ira Trivedi slaps legal notice on Chetan Bhagat, calls him a 'liar'

Veteran journalist Vinod Dua has been named by filmmaker Nishtha Jain in her #MeToo story. The filmmaker has accused Dua of sexual misconduct in an incident that took place in 1989.&nbsp;

In a long post on Facebook, Jain stated that Dua used to stalk her and 'slobbered' all over her face once. Dua had last year lashed out at Akshay Kumar for his sexist remarks on his daughter, Internet star Mallika Dua and &nbsp;Jain found it ironical.&nbsp;

In her post, she wrote, "When I read about his outrage against Akshay Kumar's sexist words to his daughter Malika Dua, I said to myself he's obviously forgotten that he was no less sexist, no less misogynist, no less creepy a sexual harasser, potential rapist. If he did to me, I'm sure he would have done it to other women. Today, he does programmes explaining (to) the world what constitutes sexual harassment. He should stop everything and look into his own shady past."

Jain wrote how he had made lewd sexual jokes when she had made him for a job interview in June 1989. He was already a star-journalist while she was a fresher.&nbsp;

Jain recalls that while she did not get the job, Dua kept track of her whereabouts. " I got a job as a video editor in Newstrack. I don't know how this man learnt about it. He had friends in my office who would inform him when I would be working late. One night as I came down to the parking, he was there. He said, he wanted to talk to me and asked me to enter his car - a black SUV/Jeep, I don't remember the make as I'm not into automobiles. Assuming that he wanted to apologise for his behaviour, I entered the car but before I could even settle down he began slobbering all over my face. I managed to get out and get into my office car and leave. "

Jain apologised to Mallika Dua and said, "Sorry, if I have inadvertently shamed Mallika Dua. I had no such intention. Thanks for friends and supporters for pointing this out. She's in no way responsible for her father's acts. However, I do hope she'll be able to believe me, empathise with me as well as the other women he has harassed," she wrote on Facebook.

Mallika on her part issued a long statement addressing to Jain and stated that she would continue to be in solidarity to ongoing the #MeToo movement however she felt it was unnecessary of Jain to pull her name in the controversy. "This isn't my battle to fight. It isn't my responsibility, shame or burden. I will deal with this my way on my time," wrote Dua and added that "If at all my father is truly guilty of what you described, it is unacceptable, traumatic and painful."

#MeeToo: Journalist Vinod Dua accused of sexual misconduct

Hours after a former employee of Phantom Films accused its co-founder and filmmaker Vikas Bahl of sexual harassment, critically acclaimed actress Kangana Ranaut&nbsp;came out in the support of her and said that she totally believes the woman.

Speaking&nbsp;with English magazine, Ranaut said that she completely supports the survivor and the director has harassed her as well.

"Every time we met, socially greeted and hugged each other, he'd bury his face in my neck, hold me really tight and breathe in the smell of my hair. It took me a great amount of strength and effort to pull myself out of his embrace. he'd say 'I Love how you smell K'," Kangana Ranaut was quoted the magazine.

She also says that Vikas Bahl often bragged about having casual sex with new partner every day on the set.

"Even though Vikas was married back in 2014 when we were filming Queen, he bragged about having casual sex with a new partner every other day, " she said adding, "I don't judge people and their marriages but you can tell when addiction become a sickness. He partied every night and shamed me for sleeping early and not being cool enough".

Kangana Ranaut further revealed that she lost few projects also&nbsp;because she tried to help the girl who has accused Vikas Bahl.

Last year, a woman employee at Phantom Films, which had Bahl as one of the partners alongside Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena, had levelled allegations of molestation against Bahl, who she said behaved inappropriately during a trip to Goa.

In a recent article in Huffington Post India, the woman has reiterated the allegations, sharing further details about the incident.

The report further claims that the&nbsp;woman reached out to Anurag Kashyap and detailed her experience, but no action was taken while Bahl continued to harass her until she finally quit the company.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Phantom films founded in 2011&nbsp;decided to close operations of the production house after running it for seven years.

The four partners now intend to exert their creativity independently and have timely collaborations with each other, a press release Saturday said, without citing the reason for this decision.&nbsp;

Reports say that the closing of operations comes in the wake of the allegations.

He'd bury his face in my neck... breathe in smell of my hair: Kangana Ranaut on 'Queen' director

US President Donald Trump defended Monday his embattled Supreme Court nominee <a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/trump-says-he-wants-comprehensive-fbi-investigation-kavanaugh-168846">Brett </a><a href="http://www.wionews.com/world/trump-says-he-wants-comprehensive-fbi-investigation-kavanaugh-168846">Kavanaugh</a>, but said that the appeals court judge has had a "bit of difficulty" with alcohol.

Trump called Kavanaugh's treatment unfair, days after the FBI opened a Senate-requested probe into allegations by three women that a drunken Kavanaugh sexually abused them or engaged in sexual misconduct while they were students in the 1980s.

In a White House press conference, Trump sought to excuse excessive drinking by teenagers, while going beyond Kavanaugh's own testimony on his past use of alcohol to the Senate Judiciary Committee last week.

"I was surprised at how vocal he was about the fact that he likes beer," the president said.

"He's had a little bit of difficulty. He talked about things that happened when he drank. This is not a man that said... he was perfect with respect to alcohol."

He also questioned why investigators needed to examine the 53-year-old Kavanaugh's high school record.

"I think it's very unfair to bring up things like this," Trump said.

"I graduated from high school and while I did not drink, I saw a lot of people drinking," he said.

"They drink beer and go crazy and they were in high school... Does that mean that they can't do something they want to do in their life?"

'I like beer'

In Thursday's extraordinary hearing, Kavanaugh vehemently denied the sexual abuse allegations, and also aggressively challenged suggestions he had a drinking problem at the time.

"I drank beer with my friends. Sometimes I had too many beers," he told the panel. &nbsp;

"Yes, we drank beer. I liked beer. I still like beer," he said.

"If every American who drinks beer or every American who drank beer in high school is suddenly presumed guilty of sexual assault, it will be an ugly, new place in this country."

Trump meanwhile said the White House would not restrict the new FBI probe, requested by senators before they take a final vote on Kavanaugh.

"I think the FBI should do what they have to do to get to the answer," Trump said.

"I want it to be comprehensive.... With that being said, I would like to go quickly," he added.

"We don't want to go on a witch hunt, do we?"

Senators, including Republican Jeff Flake, struck a deal Friday that gives the FBI one week to conduct its investigation and deliver its report.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate, made up of 51 Republicans and 49 Democrats, will be "voting this week" on advancing the Kavanaugh nomination, setting up a possible final confirmation vote this weekend or early next week.

"The time for endless delay and obstruction has come to a close," McConnell said.

Last week, Flake expressed eagerness to see Kavanaugh confirmed but said he wanted a "better process" for assessing the allegations. Flake said over the weekend that he would vote for Kavanaugh unless the FBI finds something in its investigation.

Kavanaugh does not belong on the Supreme Court, accuser Julie Swetnick says

Movie producer Harvey&nbsp;Weinstein&nbsp;was indicted&nbsp;on Wednesday&nbsp;on charges of rape and a criminal sexual act, Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance said, the first case to emerge from a slew of sexual misconduct allegations against him.

"This indictment brings the defendant another step closer to accountability for the crimes of violence with which he is now charged," Vance said in a statement on the charges against the disgraced 66-year-old co-founder of the Miramax film studio and the Weinstein Co.

The grand jury indictment follows his arrest and court appearance last Friday on charges related to two among about 70 women who have accused him of sexual misconduct, all of which Weinstein has denied.

Vance's statement said Weinstein was charged with rape in the first and third degrees and a criminal sexual act in the first degree.

Ben Brafman, the head of Weinstein's legal team, said his client would plead not guilty and defend himself against the charges.

If convicted on the most serious charges, Weinstein could face between five and 25 years in prison.

Earlier&nbsp;on Wednesday, Weinstein declined to testify before the grand jury after a judge denied a request by his lawyers to postpone the appearance. Brafman had argued Weinstein was denied access to information about the case and lacked preparation time.

"Mr&nbsp;Weinstein intends to enter a plea of not guilty and vigorously defend against these unsupported allegations that he strongly denies," Brafman said in a statement after the indictment.

"We will soon formally move to dismiss the indictment and if this case actually proceeds to trial, we expect Mr&nbsp;Weinstein to be acquitted."

The grand jury indictment spares the prosecution the step of having to go before a judge to demonstrate there is enough evidence to bring Weinstein to trial.

The indictment follows a months-long investigation with the New York Police Department. Police have not identified the two women but said the crimes took place in 2004 and 2013.

Weinstein remains out on $1 million cash bail ordered by a judge last Friday. Weinstein surrendered his US&nbsp;passport and agreed to wear a monitoring device that tracks his location, confining him to the states of New York and Connecticut.

Some of the allegations date back decades. Weinstein has denied ever having nonconsensual sex.

The accusations, first reported last year by the New York Times and the New Yorker, gave rise to the #MeToo movement, in which hundreds of women have publicly accused powerful men in business, government and entertainment of sexual misconduct.

Actresses who have publicly accused Weinstein of sexual misconduct include Uma Thurman, Ashley Judd, Rose McGowan and Salma Hayek.

Film producer Harvey Weinstein indicted for rape

South Korean filmmaker Kim Ki-duk has been accused of sexual harassment and rape by multiple actresses. The revelations were made on March 6th in an investigative news programme, PD Notebook.&nbsp;

In 2017, an anoymous actress accused Kim Ki-duk of forcing her to engage in non-consenusal sexual act on the sets of 2013 film Moebius which he had directed. The actress was replaced soon after and the filmmaker was ordered to pay a fine of $5,000 by a local court for physically assaulting the actress. However, the charges of sexual violence were not pursued due to lack of evidence.

In the latest episode of PD Notebook, the actress has spoken out about the case for the first time although her identity has been withheld. The actress stated that the filmmaker forced her to engage in a three-way sexual act with another actress and when she refused, the filmmaker told her, &ldquo;I cannot work with an actor who cannot trust me.&rdquo;

The actress stated that it took her four years to initiate legal action against the filmmaker as other cast and crew members on the film set were hesitant to speak out against the director.&nbsp;
The programme featured the interviews of a male crew member who had been a part of Kim Ki-duk&rsquo;s films, as well as a male filmmaker, both of whom said that the &ldquo;horrifying incidents&rdquo; had happened on the cult director&rsquo;s sets.

Another actress revealed that she had been raped by Kim Ki-duk, as well as the director&rsquo;s frequent collaborator, the actor Cho Jae-hyun, during the pre-production of a film she was a part of. The actress also said that Cho Jae-hyun&rsquo;s manager made attempts to rape her as well while the film was being shot.

Meanwhile, the celebrated filmmaker has refuted the allegations, the report stated. He sent the PD Notebook team a text message where he wrote that the ongoing #MeToo movement is condemning people even when the truth has not been revealed.&nbsp;

&ldquo;I have stolen a kiss... but never did anything beyond that without a woman&rsquo;s consent,&rdquo; Kim Ki-duk said. &ldquo;I have been involved in intimate relationships, but it was always consensual. I am, however, ashamed of this as a married family man.&rdquo;

Oscars 2018: The complete list of nominees

Hollywood is set for a real-life cliffhanger Sunday at the Oscars -- the race for best picture is coming down to the wire to cap an awards season overshadowed by scandal over sexual misconduct in showbiz.

Dark crime comedy &quot;Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri&quot; has begun to pull away in late betting for the industry&#39;s biggest prize, but Oscarologists believe fairy tale romance &quot;The Shape of Water&quot; and socially-conscious horror movie &quot;Get Out&quot; will make it a photo finish.&nbsp;

&quot;I don&#39;t remember a year with so much uncertainty. There are at least four strong possibilities to win,&quot; Variety&#39;s awards editor Tim Gray said, adding Christopher Nolan&#39;s sweeping war epic &quot;Dunkirk&quot; to the mix.

&quot;I&#39;m guessing that &#39;The Shape of Water&#39; will win, but that&#39;s just a guess.&quot;&nbsp;

The 90th Academy Awards -- hosted for the second straight year by late night funnyman Jimmy Kimmel -- will be beamed live around the world by ABC from Hollywood&#39;s Dolby Theatre.

The show caps a difficult few months during which the industry has declared war on the pervasive culture of sexual impropriety unearthed by the downfall of movie mogul and alleged serial sex attacker Harvey Weinstein.

With the #MeToo and Time&#39;s Up campaigns against sexual misconduct and gender inequality dominating the 2018 awards circuit, this year&#39;s Oscars gala is seen as an opportunity for Tinseltown to support female filmmaking.

Greta Gerwig is only the fifth woman in Oscars history to be nominated for best director, but faces tough competition from Guillermo Del Toro, the runaway favorite for &quot;The Shape of Water.&quot;

There was also the first nod in history for a female cinematographer, Rachel Morrison, who shot Dee Rees&#39;s racial drama &quot;Mudbound.&quot;

Avoiding another flub

The Time&#39;s Up initiative is not planning a coordinated protest on Sunday -- like the striking red carpet &quot;blackout&quot; at the Golden Globes.

But leaders of the movement told journalists there would be &quot;a moment that&#39;s been carved out&quot; during the ceremony.

&quot;It&#39;s really important that you know that Time&#39;s Up is not about the red carpet,&quot; said powerhouse Hollywood producer Shonda Rhimes (&quot;Grey&#39;s Anatomy,&quot; &quot;Scandal&quot;).

&quot;And those women you saw on the red carpet representing Time&#39;s Up are now off the red carpet working their butts off being activists.&quot;

In another nod to the women&#39;s movements, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has tapped past winners Jennifer Lawrence and Jodie Foster to present the best actress Oscar, according to Variety.

Traditionally, the previous year&#39;s best actor winner would present that statuette, but Casey Affleck, who triumphed in 2017 for &quot;Manchester by the Sea,&quot; withdrew under a cloud of sexual harassment accusations he denies.

One political statement on the red carpet may come in bright orange -- some A-listers will reportedly wear orange US flag pins in a call for tougher gun control.

Organizers are looking to rebound after last year&#39;s flubbed announcement by Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway of the best picture winner -- the trophy was initially given to &quot;La La Land,&quot; when the actual winner was &quot;Moonlight.&quot;

In a surprise turn of events, Beatty and Dunaway have been tapped to present the same prize this time around, according to The Hollywood Reporter, although the Academy did not respond to AFP&#39;s request for confirmation.&nbsp;

McDormand, Oldman in pole position

&quot;The Shape of Water,&quot; a Cold War-set story of love between a mute cleaning woman and a mystery merman-like creature, tops the nominations with 13, although observers expect the spoils to be fairly evenly spread.&nbsp;

&quot;Dunkirk&quot; heads into Sunday&#39;s gala in second place with eight nods, while &quot;Three Billboards&quot; picked up seven.

Frances McDormand (&quot;Three Billboards&quot;) and British veteran Gary Oldman (&quot;Darkest Hour&quot;), who have dominated the awards season, are expected to bag the lead acting statuettes.

Disney-Pixar&#39;s &quot;Coco&quot; seems a near-sure bet to pick up the award for best animated film.

And &quot;A Fantastic Woman&quot; -- a love story from Chilean director Sebastian Lelio with a much-praised star turn from transgender actress Daniela Vega -- is tipped to win best foreign-language film honors.&nbsp;

The intermittent weekend rain is expected to taper off in time for Sunday&#39;s ceremony, but temperatures will be a bit cool as around 3,400 guests descend on Hollywood Boulevard.
