However, speaking to the news agency AFP, Russian military expert Yury Podolyaka said that holes seen in the wreckage of the aircraft were similar to the damage caused by an "anti-aircraft missile system."

UK, US announce sanctions aimed at disrupting illicit gold trade

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday (Dec. 8) that 43,000 of his soldiers had died, whereas at least 370,000 were wounded in the country's ongoing war with Russia.

In a social media post, he also claimed that Russian casualties had surpassed 750,000, with 198,000 killed and over 550,000 injured.

"Since the start of the full-scale war, Ukraine has lost 43,000 soldiers killed in action on the battlefield. There have been 370,000 cases of medical assistance for the wounded. It also needs to be mentioned that in our army approximately half of the soldiers wounded in action are later returning to the battlefield, and that our data also includes light or repeat injuries," he wrote in a post on X.

The bill would apply to materials online, in media, advertising and in films that promote "rejection of childbearing," according to a report by news agency AFP.&nbsp;

Calling the advertisements on birth control "destructive content," MPs in the parliament said the bill targets "propaganda" that promotes a "conscious" rejection of having children.

Violations would be punishable by fines of up to 400,000 rubles ($4,000) for individuals and up to five million rubles for businesses. The bill also includes a provision to deport foreigners found guilty of disseminating the banned information.

"This is a fateful law. Without children, there will be no country. This ideology will lead to people stopping giving birth to children," said Duma's Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, as quoted by AFP.&nbsp;

The legislation was about "protecting citizens, primarily the generation growing up, from information spread in the media space that negatively affects the development of personality," said Volodin.&nbsp;

This is "so new generations of our citizens grow up orientated towards traditional family values", he added.

Nina Ostanina, a Communist Party MP who heads the Duma committee on family policy, said the bill aims to "guard our youth from unnecessary ideologies".

As several world leaders congratulated Donald Trump for his electoral victory, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday (Nov. 6) that Russian President Vladimir Putin is not planning to call Trump to congratulate him on his win.&nbsp;

The 20-second clip features a man saying in a stilted, robotic delivery: "We are from Haiti. We came to America six months ago, and we already have our American citizenship -- we're voting Kamala Harris."

<h2>How did Google accumulate the huge fine?</h2>

The massive fine was first reported by state-run news site RBC on Tuesday (Oct 29) and it said that Google had banned other media outlets in 2022 because they supported the invasion of Ukraine by Russia which resulted in more fines.

Last year, Google reported revenue of $306 billion and placed a restriction on the creation of new accounts for Russian people last month. The company also deactivated AdSense accounts present in Russia in August.

Since March 2022, online ads have not been shown to Google users in Russia as part of broader sanctions against the country.

Because of the restrictions, Russian authorities seized the bank accounts of Google and forced the Russian subsidiary of the US firm to file for bankruptcy.&nbsp;

However, Google's free services, which include YouTube and Search, have been operating in Russia.

In the latest quarterly results published on Tuesday evening, Google acknowledged facing legal issues in Russia.

“For example, civil judgments that include compounding penalties have been imposed upon us in connection with disputes regarding the termination of accounts, including those of sanctioned parties. We do not believe these ongoing legal matters will have a material adverse effect,” it added.

"Google was called by a Russian court to administrative liability under Art. 13.41 of the Administrative Offenses Code for removing channels on the YouTube platform. The court ordered the company to restore these channels," said lawyer Ivan Morozov, while speaking to state-run media&nbsp;TASS.

The fine did not seem to have any impact on Google parent company&nbsp;Alphabet as its shares rose by more than five&nbsp;per cent in after-market trading on Tuesday (Oct 29).

With millions of refugees mixed in with activated mercenaries and a longer border with belligerent Russia, which will reorganise itself after learning from its mistakes, the war is undoubtedly not making Europe more peaceful. It has signaled its willingness to sacrifice its energy and economic interests in order to achieve that goal. To effectively combat unfriendly Russia in the long run, the EU will need to increase its defence spending while holding some sovereign decisions hostage to the USA. &nbsp;

A Russian man was found alive after drifting for two months on an inflatable boat while another man and a teenage boy died, prosecutors said Tuesday (Oct 15).

The two men and a 15-year-old set off to the Island of Sakhalin from the far eastern Khabarovsk region on August 9, transport prosecutors said.

"After a time, communication with them was lost, their boat's location remained unknown," they said.

"On October 14 around 10:00 pm, the boat was discovered as it passed a fishing boat... Two people died, one remained alive, he is receiving medical help," prosecutors said.

The survivor was named by the RIA Novosti news agency as Mikhail Pichugin, while his brother Sergei, 49, and nephew Ilya, 15, died. Their bodies were on the boat.

Russian rescuers had mounted a search using helicopters and a plane for the men a few days after they disappeared, suspecting the boat had been carried by currents towards Kamchatka.&nbsp;

Alexei Arykov, the owner of the fishing boat that found the survivor said he was "in a serious condition, thin, but conscious," RIA Novosti reported.

The boat docked around 0830 GMT in the far eastern city of Magadan and the survivor was carried off on a stretcher, the news agency reported.

Ukraine aims to organise a new peace summit by the end of this year and wants Russia to attend this time, its ambassador to Turkey said on Wednesday, but ruled out any direct bilateral talks with Moscow at the meeting.

With Russia's invasion of Ukraine in its third year, the two countries remain far apart on how to end the war. Turkey, China, Brazil and others have offered to mediate in the conflict or discuss peace proposals, but no progress has been made.

Ukraine is pursuing President Volodymyr Zelensky's "victory plan", while Russian President Vladimir Putin has said peace talks can only begin if Kyiv agrees to abandon large swaths of territory claimed by Moscow and drops its bid to join NATO.

"One of the most important goals of this summit is to reach a fair peace in Ukraine. We are not talking about a format here in which Ukraine and Russia sit across each other and Ukraine listens to Russia's demands," Ambassador Vasyl Bodnar told a briefing in Ankara, via a Turkish interpreter.

Zelensky makes bombshell claim during US trip, says Ukraine 'closer to end of war' with Russia

The Indian government is unwilling to heed to USA's request to ban and block Russian state media network RT, formerly known as Russia Today, globally. While the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is yet to issue an official statement, a government official told The Hindu that&nbsp;the&nbsp;matter “does not pertain to India” altogether.

Notably, the issue was discussed at a meeting between US Embassy officials and the MEA in the past fortnight.&nbsp;&nbsp;

While New Delhi has seemingly refused to comply, Facebook owner Meta on Monday (Sep 16) said it was banning&nbsp;RT, Rossiya Segodnya and other Russian state media networks from its platforms. The Mark Zuckerberg-owned company said these outlets had employed&nbsp;deceptive tactics to carry out covert influence operations online.

"After careful consideration, we expanded our ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets. Rossiya Segodnya, RT and other related entities are now banned from our apps globally for foreign interference activity," the social media company said in a written statement.

Meta added that enforcement of the ban would roll out over the coming days. In addition to Facebook, Meta's apps include Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads. It remains interesting to see if RT is blacklisted on Indian Meta platforms.&nbsp;

Meanwhile,&nbsp;RT criticised the US move and accused the White House of trying to prevent the broadcaster from operating as a journalistic organisation.
