Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) produced another batting masterclass on Saturday (April 20)&nbsp;as they beat&nbsp;hosts Delhi Capitals by 67&nbsp;runs.&nbsp;On an evening where SRH broke the record for the highest powerplay score with 125 runs in six overs, the hosts were left helpless and&nbsp;were narrowed&nbsp;to their fifth defeat of the season. The win for SRH has seen them cement their place firmly in an&nbsp;interesting&nbsp;battle for the playoff places&nbsp;including&nbsp;the second spot&nbsp;which&nbsp;guarantees two chances to reach the final in Chennai. &nbsp;

<h2>DC never in contest&nbsp;</h2>

Tasked to chase a mammoth 267 runs to win, DC were never in the contest after they lost openers Prithvi Shaw (16) and David Warner (1) inside the powerplay. Jake Fraser-McGurk (65 off 18) and Abhishek Porel (42 off 22) tried to come good with the bat, but the scoreboard pressure ultimately got the better of them as they suffered the defeat. Captain Rishabh Pant scored&nbsp;44,&nbsp;but could not help his side avoid the defeat on their return to the Arun Jaitley Stadium.&nbsp;

Batting first, SRH scored 266/7 in their 20 overs, their third-highest score in the&nbsp;history of the tournament.&nbsp;Travis Head led the charge with&nbsp;yet another fifty as he scored&nbsp;89 off 32 deliveries.&nbsp;His innings consisted of 11 fours and&nbsp;6&nbsp;sixes.&nbsp;Shahbaz Ahmed was also&nbsp;amongst&nbsp;the runs&nbsp;having&nbsp;scored&nbsp;an unbeaten 59 off 29 while Abhishek Sharma amassed 46 of 12&nbsp;scoring&nbsp;at almost&nbsp;4&nbsp;runs per ball.&nbsp;Nitish Reddy also played a good part in the innings&nbsp;scoring&nbsp;37 off 27.

Interestingly, three bowlers&nbsp;ended up giving&nbsp;up more than fifty runs as Kuldeep Yadav ended with figures of 55/4.&nbsp;

DC vs SRH, IPL 2024, Highlights: SRH beat hapless DC by 68 runs

Game 35 of IPL 2024 between Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad will get underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the first time this season on Saturday (April 20).

Game 35 of IPL 2024 between Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad will get underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi for the first time this season on Saturday (April 20). While this marks the homecoming for DC Captain Rishabh Pant following his horrific car accident in December 2022, the hosts are aware of the daunting SRH side that not once but twice broke the record of the highest team total in IPL history. Here is the match preview and result prediction of the DC vs SRH game in IPL 2024. Match Preview The home side, Delhi Capitals, has grown in confidence following their two successive wins over Lucknow and Gujarat, respectively. While they seem to be finding the right balance, with the inclusion of lesser-known dynamite in Jack-Fraser McGurk, Delhi still has some areas to work on. Their top order might have clicked in most games this season, but the lower middle order, barring Tristan Stubbs, has failed to deliver, causing trouble in them gaining an advantage over top teams. The bowling, mainly the spin department, with Kuldeep Yadav leading the attack, has improved drastically, as he, alongside Axar Patel, will aim to keep high-flying SRH’s batting order in check in the marquee clash in IPL 2024. ALSO READ: ECB's Robert Key explains how use of Kookaburra ball in County can help England become top Test team However, how Ishant and DC’s best seam bowler, Khaleel Ahmed, perform with the new ball will decide their fate on Saturday (April 20). On the other hand, the touring SRH team is the most feared side this season, having crushed each opponent with utter disdain. While their top order, mainly the top three, has made the right noises with stunning displays thus far, the batters to follow are even more dangerous, considering the form Heinrich Klaasen is in. SRH’s batting has been their x-factor this season, and at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, where the boundaries are relatively smaller, they will try and dominate the bowlers again. What sets them apart from the top-ranked team this time is how their bowling unit has complimented their batting, with Captain Pat Cummins leading the charge. Head-to-Head SRH leads DC 12-11 in head-to-head tally in IPL. However, DC has held the upper hand lately, having won five of the last contested matches against Hyderabad. Result Prediction Contrary to the general notion of SRH being the stronger side, the hosts, Delhi, might cause an upset by beating Hyderabad in a home game on Saturday in IPL 2024. Predicted Playing XIs of both teams – Delhi Capitals – Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Shai Hope, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed SunRisers Hyderabad - Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen (wk), Abdul Samad, Nitish Reddy, Shahbaz Ahmed, Pat Cummins (c), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat and T Natarajan

IPL 2024, Match 35, Delhi Capitals vs SunRisers Hyderabad – Match preview and result prediction

West Indies veteran Brian Lara feels Rishabh Pant’s homecoming in IPL 2024 will be an emotional period for the Delhi Capitals’ Captain. Following playing two matches at their adopted home ground in Vizag earlier this season, Pant’s DC has returned to Delhi (at the Arun Jaitley Stadium) for their evening game against SunRisers Hyderabad on Saturday (April 20).

Speaking to Star Sports ahead of the marquee clash between Delhi and Hyderabad, Lara said,

“Getting the opportunity to go home and play in front of your own crowd after so long, it's going to be an emotional period. Rishabh Pant is doing so well in the IPL, his first season back. And it's something that you want to experience as a cricket fan. Rishabh Pant, going back to that stadium, it's going to be just electric. And I think it's going to be an awesome match.”

Meanwhile, having last led Delhi in IPL 2022, Pant suffered a horrific road accident on December 30 of the same year. His car ramped into the dividers before overturning several times and catching fire.&nbsp;

Although the onlookers managed to get Pant out of the car before it got burnt, the India cricketer suffered multiple injuries, sidelining him from on-field cricket for more than a year.

Pant underwent several surgeries, including on both knees, before beginning with rehab and joining the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to get in shape for a return to the cricket field. Upon getting treated at the NCA ahead of this season, Pant was declared fit for competitive cricket.&nbsp;

While the DC owners and even Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly insisted that Pant would play as a specialist batter, the attacking left-hander received a clearance certificate from the doctors to keep wickets in IPL 2024.

<h2>Pant returns to form</h2>

Considering it’s not easy for anyone to get back into form right after returning from serious injuries, Pant has done excessively well on that front. Although he began poorly or rather at this pace, Pant gained momentum and form heading into the halfway stage of the tournament.

In seven contested matches thus far, Pant has scored 210 runs, including two fifties, with his highest being 55. IPL 2024: Brian Lara excited about Rishabh Pant’s homecoming in Delhi, says it’s going to be emotional

Team India is&nbsp;all set&nbsp;to resume its quest to win the T20 World Cup as they prepare for the marquee event&nbsp;post&nbsp;the Indian Premier League (IPL). Walking into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the competition, India will look to send a strong squad for the T20 World Cup that will&nbsp;be played&nbsp;in the USA and the West Indies.&nbsp;To select the&nbsp;squad, it&nbsp;is reported&nbsp;that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will speak to captain Rohit Sharma when his Mumbai Indians side travels to Delhi on April 27.

<h2>BCCI to speak to Rohit&nbsp;</h2>

According to media reports, the selectors panel led by Ajit Agarkar will speak to Rohit about several players who could be part of the first&nbsp;squad,&nbsp;while also keeping eyes on potential back-up options. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant’s selection will be the&nbsp;biggest&nbsp;topic of discussion&nbsp;with&nbsp;both likely to play in the T20 World Cup. The selectors will have plenty of thinking to do in the bowling department with out of favour Yuzvendra Chahal impressing during the IPL 2024.&nbsp;

Virat played his first T20I match for India since the T20 World Cup in January when he&nbsp;was selected&nbsp;for the Afghanistan tour. He has been in excellent touch for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side in the IPL 2024&nbsp;and has&nbsp;scored 361 runs in seven matches&nbsp;including&nbsp;an unbeaten hundred against Rajasthan Royals (RR). &nbsp;

Pant’s position is a little vulnerable&nbsp;considering&nbsp;there is competition for the spot in the squad. Sanju Samson has been impressive again with RR&nbsp;while&nbsp;KL Rahul also played a vital role for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday. Despite not being offered a central contract before the IPL, Ishan Kishan&nbsp;continues to be&nbsp;an option due to his recent exploits with the national side. Lastly, Dinesh Karthik is also proving why he is ageing like a fine wine and has thrown up a tough challenge to the selectors.

In the bowling department,&nbsp;Chahal is most likely to join Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav after impressing in the IPL 2024 with RR.&nbsp;

Team India is all set to resume its quest to win the T20 World Cup as they prepare for the marquee event post the Indian Premier League (IPL). Walking into the tournament as one of the favourites to win the competition, India will look to send a strong squad for the T20 World Cup that will be played in the USA and the West Indies. To select the squad, it is reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will speak to captain Rohit Sharma when his Mumbai Indians side travels to Delhi on April 27. BCCI to speak to Rohit According to media reports, the selectors panel led by Ajit Agarkar will speak to Rohit about several players who could be part of the first squad, while also keeping eyes on potential back-up options. Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant’s selection will be the biggest topic of discussion with both likely to play in the T20 World Cup. The selectors will have plenty of thinking to do in the bowling department with out of favour Yuzvendra Chahal impressing during the IPL 2024. Virat played his first T20I match for India since the T20 World Cup in January when he was selected for the Afghanistan tour. He has been in excellent touch for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) side in the IPL 2024 and has scored 361 runs in seven matches including an unbeaten hundred against Rajasthan Royals (RR). ALSO READ | IPL 2024: Fleming lauds MS Dhoni’s skill-set in pre-season as Mahi turns back clock against LSG Pant’s position is a little vulnerable considering there is competition for the spot in the squad. Sanju Samson has been impressive again with RR while KL Rahul also played a vital role for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday. Despite not being offered a central contract before the IPL, Ishan Kishan continues to be an option due to his recent exploits with the national side. Lastly, Dinesh Karthik is also proving why he is ageing like a fine wine and has thrown up a tough challenge to the selectors. In the bowling department, Chahal is most likely to join Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav after impressing in the IPL 2024 with RR.

T20 World Cup: Selectors to meet Rohit Sharma in Delhi on April 27; Virat, Pant likely to be included - Report

Legendary England bowler Stuart Broad has backed the selection of Rishabh Pant in the Indian squad as the countdown to the tournament begins. The T20 World Cup is all set to start on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies as national boards are all set to announce their squads. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)&nbsp;is also likely to&nbsp;announce the T20 World Cup squad by the end of the month or in the first week of May. While there is still confirmation on who will travel with the&nbsp;squad, it&nbsp;is reported&nbsp;that the selectors are already keeping a close eye on&nbsp;Pant&nbsp;while Virat Kohli is also under the&nbsp;radar of the committee.&nbsp;

<h2>Broad backs Pant for the T20 World Cup</h2>

"The selection for the Indian team is up in the air a little bit. You have some players pending in that team.&nbsp;Rishabh&nbsp;Pant's&nbsp;probably the one on whom&nbsp;there's&nbsp;a lot of discussion about.&nbsp; There was a shot I saw him play against KKR, a no-look flick over deep square leg for six.&nbsp;The moment he played that shot, I thought, he has got to be in that T20 World Cup squad.&nbsp;He's&nbsp;ready.&nbsp;He's&nbsp;good to go,"&nbsp;Broad said on Star Sports.

Pant has not played international cricket since his near-fatal accident in December 2022 in a car crash. He last represented India in the Test series against Bangladesh and has since been on the treatment table.&nbsp;He missed the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in 2023, IPL 2023&nbsp;and the ODI World Cup in India.&nbsp;So far in IPL 2024, Pant has played seven matches and scored 210 runs at an average of 35.&nbsp;

Pant is not the only player in contention for a place in the World Cup team&nbsp;with&nbsp;out-of-favour Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik also in contention.&nbsp;Rahul’s&nbsp;selection will be a&nbsp;key&nbsp;factor considering he has not been the first choice in recent months&nbsp;while&nbsp;Ishan has been on the receiving end of selectors' criticism for pulling out of the South Africa tour and the Ranji Trophy season.&nbsp;

He played a valiant 83-run knock against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in just 35 balls to show his skills as a pitch-hitter at the age of 38. T20 World Cup: England legend backs Rishabh Pant’s inclusion, says ‘he has got to be in that squad’

Match 32 of the IPL 2024 edition saw the Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) storm past hosts Gujarat Titans (GT), in Ahmedabad, on Wednesday (April 17) to win by six wickets in pursuit of a paltry 90. After chasing the target in a mere 9.2 overs, DC improved their Net Run Rate (at&nbsp;-0.074) to climb to the sixth spot in the points table. Captain Pant ended as the Player of the Match&nbsp;despite Mukesh Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Tristan Stubss sharing seven wickets in between, for his wicketkeeping and captaincy skills.

After the match, former England captain-turned-commentator Kevin Pietersen lauded Pant for his fitness and work behind the stumps during the GT encounter, at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Pant accounted for four dismissals behind the stumps, led with aplomb and also ended with an 11-ball 16 not out. He took a sensational catch to dismiss dangerman David Miller and&nbsp;followed it up with two&nbsp;successive stumpings of Abhinav Manohar and Shahrukh Khan.

Thus, Pietersen lauded Pant and stated that he looks poised to feature in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. So far, the swashbuckling left-hander -- who returned to competitive cricket during the ongoing edition after a horrific car crash in late 2022 -- has managed&nbsp;210 runs in 154 balls&nbsp;at a strike rate of 156.72. Thus, he is surely a strong contender to make it to the T20 WC squad.

Speaking on Star Sports, Pietersen said, "He's (Pant) doing a pretty good job... I thought his mobility tonight was something that gave him great encouragement. That will give Team India great encouragement. He needs game time, of course, everybody needs game time when they're coming back from an injury. He's coming back from a horrific injury, so game time is what he needs and to get himself into a T20 World Cup, to have played 14,15,16,17 games. It's a big thing leading into a T20 World Cup, so if he does go and they (DC) do play that much cricket, he will be so ready."

Pant started off slowly but is now in full flow in the ongoing IPL season. He would first hope for DC to reach the playoffs so that he gets more game time under his belt&nbsp;and continues to make a mark both with the bat and&nbsp;behind the wickets&nbsp;to be part of Rohit Sharma-led India's T20 WC squad.

The mega event will be held in the West Indies and the USA in early June, soon after IPL 2024. India's provisional squad is expected to be out by early May.

GT vs DC: Kevin Pietersen backs Rishabh Pant to be 'ready for T20 World Cup' by end of IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals (DC) won their second match on the trot and third overall in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after thrashing Gujarat Titans (GT) by six&nbsp;wickets on April 17. Chasing a target of 90, DC made small task of it and reached the winning mark in just ninth&nbsp;over.

DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk was fiery in the start of the chase, scoring 20 off 10 before getting out on the last ball of the second over. Prithvi Shaw was the next to fall for a six-ball seven but it had no affect on scoring. Abhishek Porel (15 off 7) and Shai Hope (19 off 10) then added 34 runs in 14 balls as DC effectively closed the game.

It started with the wicket of GT skipper Shubman Gill who was sent back by DC's Ishant Sharma in the second over of the innings. Wriddhiman Saha was next to go after he chopped on a ball by Mukesh Kumar onto the stumps. Sai Sudharsan was then caught short by Sumit Kumar while trying to steal a single. Ishant then returned to take the wicket of David Miller who was caught behind brilliantly by Pant. &nbsp;By the time powerplay ended, GT were 30/4 - their one of the lowest powerplay totals.

Pant then brought on part-time Tristan Stubbs to bowl the ninth over and he obliged with two wickets, thanks to stumpings by the DC skipper. Rashid Khan's 24-ball 31 then took GT to 88 in the 18th over but his dismissal brought the end of the innings two balls later on 89.

Delhi Capitals (DC) head coach Ricky Ponting has backed Rishabh Pant to be part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Ponting believes his franchise captain is a must in the India squad despite acknowlediging the depth in India's cricket talent, particularly in the wicketkeeping-batsman role. There are many contenders for the keeper-batter slot for the T20 WC, such as KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Jitesh Sharma whereas veteran Dinesh Karthik also has an outside chance given his splendid start in the ongoing IPL season. However, the former Australian captain has backed Pant, who already has 194 runs in 123 balls faced in IPL 2024 (striking at&nbsp;157.72).

In an interview with PTI, Ponting said, "Do I believe whether Rishabh should be there in the World Cup squad? Absolutely I do. He deserves to be in that WT20 squad by the end of the IPL, I think we have seen Rishabh play the way we have seen him play in the last six seasons of IPL and now back playing for India. One thing we certainly know that there is a lot of depth around Indian cricket, with keeper batters and I feel some guys are in really good form at the moment. Kishan is playing well, Samson is playing well and KL Rahul is playing well, there's a lot of options there but if I was picking a team, I would have Rishabh Pant in it every day of the week."

Pant returned to competitive cricket, after 14 months, during this year's IPL following a horrific car crash in late 2022. Since his return, all eyes are on his fitness and form. While the swashbuckling left-hander started off slowly, he has gained momentum with each passing day and striking the ball really well. Thus, he has a strong chance to make a national comeback in the T20 WC, which commences early June.&nbsp;

Rohit Sharma-led India's provisional squad for the T20 WC is likely to be announced early next month. Meanwhile, Pant is now focused on taking DC to the top-four in the IPL 2024 points table as the one-time finalists are struggling at the moment. They are at the ninth spot and will now host SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday (April 20), at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.&nbsp;

IPL 2024: DC coach Ricky Ponting feels Rishabh Pant ‘deserves’ to be in India’s T20 World Cup squad

Delhi Capitals have pulled clear of the bottom place in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 standings after a convincing away win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday (April 12). The win for DC, only their second of the season was manufactured by brilliant batting knocks of Jake Fraser-McGurk (55) and Rishabh Pant (41) as they laid the foundation for the six-wicket win for the visitors. The win also sees RCB now occupy the bottom spot while DC look to build momentum in the IPL 2024 playoff race.

<h2>DC pull clear of bottom spot</h2>

Needing 168 runs to win, DC did not have the best start after losing David Warner (8) in the powerplay of their innings. However, Prithvi Shaw (32) and Fraser-McGurk made sure of no more hesitation in the chase to steady the innings. However, it was Fraser-McGurk’s partnership with Pant that helped deliver the knockout&nbsp;blow to LSG. They stitched a partnership of 77 runs for the third wicket which helped DC register their second win of the IPL 2024. Tristan Stubbs (15) and Shai Hope (11) would then help the side get over the line in Lucknow and win by six wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Batting first, LSG made a decent start to their innings as skipper KL Rahul (39) and Quinton de Kock (19) got the home side going. Marcus Stoinis (8), Devdutt Padikkal (3) and Nicholas Pooran (0) all disappointed with the bat leaving LSG in sixes and sevens.

Ayush Badoni (unbeaten 55) and Arshad Khan (20) would then lay the foundation for a comeback in the contest as LSG put 167/7 on the board in their 20 overs. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for DC having ended with figures of 20/3 while Khaleel Ahmed ended with 41/2 in his four overs.

IPL 2024: Fraser-McGurk, Rishabh Pant pull Delhi Capitals clear of bottom spot with convincing win over LSG

It was all chaos on Friday (April 12) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Delhi Capitals’ skipper Rishabh Pant stole the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Pant, who is playing his first season back in the IPL after a near-fatal car accident, was spotted taking an accidental DRS call and later arguing with the umpire. The incident left everyone surprised while opposition fans of Lucknow Super Giants in the stadium did not believe what transpired on the field.

<h2>Pant calls for DRS, then argues with umpire</h2>

On the fourth ball of the fourth over, Ishant Sharma’s delivery went past batter Devdutt Padikkal which was called wide by umpire Rohan Pandit. Immediately, Pant signaled for a DRS within the 15-second window which was spotted by the on-field umpire. Upon the signal, the umpire decided to call for DRS to check for wide ball. However, in an embarrassing moment, Pant would approach the umpire to withdraw the DRS call stating that the signal was for one of his fielders.

After a brief conversation and replays suggesting Pant had called for DRS, his argument with umpire Bapat did not stand. The ball was checked for wide after the DRS was upheld upon which it was confirmed that it was a wide ball. This resulted in DC losing a review while arguments between Pant and Bapat continued.

Match 26 of the IPL 2024 edition will see the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) host the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the&nbsp;Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Friday (April 12). KL Rahul-led Lucknow will start as overwhelming favourites as they are ranked third as opposed to Delhi, who are struggling at the bottom.

Lucknow are coming into this game on the back of an impressive 33-run win against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at home. In fact, the LSG franchise is one of the five teams that are so far unbeaten at home in the ongoing edition. They are on a three-match winning streak, after a loss in their season-opener, and will be confident taking on Rishabh Pant &amp; Co.

Talking about the visiting side, Delhi have their task cut out. They are in the tenth spot, with one win from five encounters. There are problems aplenty for the DC camp as they have failed to adapt and have also been plagued by injury concerns. A lot has been said and written about their team selection and strategies. If they come up with better and smarter plans, they can cause an upset this evening.

Match preview and result prediction: The pitch on offer in Lucknow has assisted the bowlers, especially the pacers with the batters not getting a freeway to score at a brisk pace. This will also help the Delhi camp, given the kind of bowling attack they possess. It all depends on whether it's a black&nbsp;or red soil deck which will determine the nature of the pitch. However, one can expect&nbsp;another sporting surface with&nbsp;bowlers being in the game throughout.&nbsp;

Expect a moderate-scoring game, in the 160-170 range, with Lucknow likely to keep their winning streak going.

IPL 2024, Match 26: Lucknow Super Giants vs Delhi Capitals – Match preview and result prediction

Former England white-ball captain Eoin Morgan heaped praises on Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant for his brilliant recovery&nbsp;from a horrific car crash, as the keeper-batter slammed his second successive fifty of IPL 2024&nbsp;during his side's 106-run loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 16 on Wednesday (April 3). Hosting the Kolkata outfit in Visakhapatnam, Pant-led DC had a forgettable evening as KKR posted 272/7; the second-highest score in IPL, and dismissed the hosts for 166 in 17.2 overs.

Pant came into this year's IPL on the back of a 14-month gap due to a horrific car accident in December 2022. Returning to&nbsp;competitive cricket after such a long time, Pant started slowly but is now getting close to his usual best with each game. His fitness has also been lauded by many former cricketers.&nbsp;

In this regard, Morgan said on Jio Cinema, "Rishabh Pant is certainly looking good and a lot of people, including myself, can't believe his progress both physically, mentally and his performance on the field. There is one thing getting your own body and mind right, there is another thing delivering on the field. He is leading his team and he is actually leading quite well. He needs a little bit of help alongside it. He needs to find more out of the likes of Mitchell Marsh, more runs from David Warner and a lot more from Prithvi Shaw."

KKR sent debutant Angkrish Raghuvanshi to replace Salt and the rookie blazed his way to 54 off just 27 balls. Towards the end, Andre Russell and Rinku Singh also teed off, scoring 41 off 19 and 26 in eight balls, respectively.&nbsp;

This was KKR's third win in three matches and they now sit atop the points table. DC, on the other hand, have slipped to the ninth place in the 10-team table with one win and three losses in four games.

Pant has returned to action in the ongoing IPL 2024 after spending 14 months in rehab following his accident. Pant's onslaught in his second half of the innings was the reason behind Delhi Capitals posting 191/5 in 20 overs. Speaking about his innings after the match, Pant said: &nbsp;"What I did was I took my time initially because I haven't played much cricket in the last one-and-a-half to two years so I thought I have to give myself enough time. At the same time I kept believing that I could change the match at the end."

The win over CSK, however, turned a bit sour for DC and Pant as he was fined for maintaining a slow over rate.

The league issued a statement on the incident which read: “Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash with Chennai Super Kings at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on March 31.”

“As it was his team’s inaugural offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct concerning minimum over rate violations, Pant was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it further added.

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant fined 1.2 million rupees after DC's win over CSK. Here's why

Struggling Delhi Capitals (DC) will be facing table-toppers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Sunday, (March 31) in Visakhapatanam. Capitals are ninth on the points table in the ten-team event with two losses in two matches while CSK have won both their games so far.

The good news for DC is that Rishabh Pant&nbsp;has looked his old self since making&nbsp;return to the competitive cricket after a 14-month rehab following a horrific car accident in December 2022. DC, however, have other worries with injuries to pacer Ishant Sharma and batter Shai Hope.

Their pacer battery of South African Anrich Nortje and Australian Jhye Richardson have also looked rusty after coming off from a long injury lay-off.

For CSK, it's all merry under new skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad with depth in batting being their power. They haven't needed wicketkeeper MS Dhoni to bat yet in the tournament - a testimony to their batting depth. CSK won both their matches comfortably, beating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).

Against RCB in the season opener, CSK chased the target of 174 with four wickets and eight balls in hand - thanks to decent contribution from everyone in the batting line up. Against GT, they posted 206/6 in 20 overs after some belligerent batting by Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube and stopped Titans at 143/8.

As for DC, they failed to defend 175 against Punjab Kings in their first match and lost the match by four wickets. In the second match, they allowed Rajasthan Royals to post 185/5 despite having them on edge at 36/3 in 7.2 overs. While chasing, DC lost the plot in the end overs and could manage only 173/5 despite Tristan Stubbs' 23-ball 44 not out and lost the match by 12 runs.

IPL 2024, Match Preview: Struggling Delhi face table-toppers Chennai Super Kings

Rishabh Pant-led Delhi Capitals (DC) faced Sanju Samson's Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 9 of IPL 2024 on Thursday (March 28), at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. Opting to bowl first, DC had RR reeling at 33-3 before Riyan Parag's magnificent 84*, off 49 balls, took his side to 185-5. Later, Delhi only managed 173 for 5 to lose their second straight game early in the season.

Following their loss, former Australia cricketer Tom Moody criticised the DC thinktank, who have not include Prithvi Shaw in both their games so far. Ex-Indian opener Wasim Jaffer, during the same discussion, also slammed the team management for not trusting Shaw and not including him in the XI despite not releasing him in the auction as well.&nbsp;

"It doesn't make sense due to the fact that you've got an Indian international player (Prithvi Shaw) in the dugout. Yes, he hasn't performed in the IPL like we had all hoped he would, but you can't score runs from the dugout," Tom Moody said on ESPNcricinfo.

Ahead of the RR clash, DC's director of cricket Sourav Ganguly opined on the management's call to drop Shaw. He told the reporters, "Prithvi Shaw is an opener. We decided to open with Marsh and Warner and Ricky Bhui is a middle-order batter. So they bat at different positions. So it's actually not Bhui for sure. It's a different opening combination, they opened for Australia and they have done well together. So we decided to do that."

Jaffer, however, did not buy into the logic. He stated that there was no point retaining him ahead of the auction and then not making him a part of the playing XI.

Jaffer said, "Now that they have held onto him and not let him go into the auction, I'm surprised they're not playing him. He's played for Mumbai for most of the season, so you'd imagine that he's fit. I'm surprised. Punishing him and then losing the games is not the way to go forward."

Notably, Shaw managed only 106 runs in the last IPL season from eight matches, his worst-ever season in the tournament. While he is coming into this year's IPL on the back of some good performances in the domestic circuit, he seems to have lost the team management's trust and, hence, is not being preferred in the first XI.

Shaw-starrer DC will now host Chennai Super Kings (CSK), on March 31 (Sunday), in their adopted home ground; i.e. the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.

<h2>RR maintain winning momentum</h2>

Tasked to chase 186, DC had a poor start with Ricky Bhui (0) and Mitchell Marsh (23) departing early. However, David Warner and Rishabh Pant kept the scoreboard ticking before the former was dismissed by a superb fielding show in the wide slips by Sandeep Sharma. Warner missed out on his fifty and was sent packing on 49 while Pant was dismissed for a below-par 28 off 26.

DC were restricted to 173/5 in their 20 overs with Avesh Khan’s final over being the crucial factor. He gave only four runs when DC needed 17 runs to win the match. His precise show helped RR&nbsp;register back-to-back wins.

Batting first, Rajasthan Royals did not have the best starts as they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal (5), Sanju Samson (15) and Jos Buttler (11) early. However, it was the batting display from Riyan Parag that stole the spotlight as he scored 84 off 45 to take RR to 185/5. After being 36/3 at one stage, RR looked in poor touch, however, Parag was given a helping hand by Ravichandran Ashwin (29) and Dhruv Jurel (20) which helped them reach the big total.

IPL 2024: Riyan Parag's blistering knock helps RR to back-to-back wins, DC lose on Pant's landmark appearance

Following a record-breaking tie in Hyderabad between SRH and MI the other night, the action moves to Jaipur in the west of India, with Rajasthan Royals hosting Delhi Capitals in game 9 of IPL 2024. Captains Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant will go one-on-one against each other with a greater goal in mind, leading their respective sides to ultimate glory in this competition and sealing a place in the XI for the T20 World Cup later. Here is the match preview and result prediction of RR vs DC.

<h2>Match preview</h2>

Following an emphatic win over Lucknow Super Giants in their season opener at home, with seamers, mainly the left-arm duo of Trent Boult and Nandre Burger, doing the damage with the new ball, Rajasthan took a lot of positives heading forward in this tournament.&nbsp;

The rise of Riyan Parag as a dependable batter in the middle order, glimpses of which were visible in the LSG game, will further help RR openers to play freely, knowing they have players to handle situations down the order. With the dominant top three in Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Captain Sanju Samson, the host sits in a better position heading into this contest.

The dynamite attacking duo of Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell (if picked) can tear into any bowling attack on their day, while Sandeep Sharma will again hold the keys for RR in this crucial tie.

Match preview Following an emphatic win over Lucknow Super Giants in their season opener at home, with seamers, mainly the left-arm duo of Trent Boult and Nandre Burger, doing the damage with the new ball, Rajasthan took a lot of positives heading forward in this tournament. IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant set for landmark appearance vs Rajasthan Royals, to play 100th match for Delhi Capitals

Former Australian Test captain Tim Paine lavished huge praise on Rishabh Pant and is hopeful that the keeper-batter would be fully fit for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India will tour Australia later this year for a five-match Test series, which gets underway on November 22 in Perth. Pant marked his return to competitive cricket after 14 months, following a horrific car crash in 2022, during Delhi Capitals' (DC) IPL 2024 season-opener, where they lost to Punjab Kings (PBKS) by four wickets. On his comeback, DC captain Pant managed a 13-ball 18 and held onto a catch as well as accounted for a stumping.&nbsp;

Paine spoke at length on Pant and revealed that he enjoys his playing style, while also recalling his cheeky banter with the keeper-batter during the 2018/19 series in Australia.&nbsp; Speaking on ESPN's Around the Wicket, Paine stated he was very happy to see Pant back on the field. He said, "It certainly did. A lot has been said about the ordeal he went through and how close he was to losing a leg. Just to see him walk back onto the field, as a cricket fan and as a fan of Rishabh. I know we had our&nbsp;banter back and forth, it was really cheeky and good fun. I have always had fun chatting with him off the field, enjoyed watching him play."

<h2>'He played cricket like I always wanted to but I didn't have the courage'</h2>

Paine further added on Pant, "He played cricket like I always wanted to. I didn't have the courage, to take the game on or even the skill. I certainly appreciate what he brings to the game, the joy he brings to the Indian cricket team fans. I can't wait to keep watching him and hopefully, he is fit and well enough to make it to Australian shores for the summer."

Pant is now keen on having&nbsp;a great run in IPL 2024 to have a chance to feature in India's squad for the T20 World Cup&nbsp;in the West Indies and USA, in June. Post that, he will also target the Australia Tests Down Under, where he has 624 runs in 7 Tests at an average of 62.40 including a hundred and two fifties.

On Tuesday (March 26), Cricket Australia officially announced the full schedule of the five Tests between India and Australia. Perth, Adelaide (day-night Test), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney will host the five Tests, respectively, from November 22 to January 3, 2025.

BGT 2024/25: Tim Paine hopes Indian star Rishabh Pant can be fit for upcoming Tests in Australia

Rishabh Pant’s return to competitive cricket was the talking point in the lead-up to Delhi Capitals’ first match of IPL 2024 against Punjab Kings on Saturday (March 23). However, it didn’t end to his liking, as Punjab won the clash by four wickets at their new home stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh.&nbsp;

Reflecting on his anticipated return to the cricket field after nearly 450 days, Pant said he felt nervous, not for the first time, adding he was happy about making his comeback following a dreadful road accident on December 30, 2022.&nbsp;

"Personally, I was pretty nervous, but you have to go through this when you enter the field," Pant said after the game.&nbsp;

"But this isn't the first time you're feeling nervous. Happy about [returning to the game], but at the same time, I think we had a par score but because we were one bowler short, because of Ishant's injury, but can't do much about it,” DC captain added.

<h2>Ishant’s injury an issue for DC</h2>

Veteran seamer Ishant bowled a few wide balls in the first over, besides conceding a four, but returned to remove PBKS Captain Shikhar Dhawan bowled in his second over. He also accounted for Jonny Bairstow’s run-out in the same over but twisted his ankle while fielding later, playing no further part in the game.&nbsp;

His injury meant DC was a bowler-less, and Mitchell Marsh and Sumit Kumar were used to compensate for that.

"Ishant injury was clearly evident on the field because we were anyway playing with one bowler short after we lacked with the bat a little bit," Pant said when asked where the game went away from them.&nbsp;

"But, end of the day, when Abishek [Porel] came in, he chipped in with a few runs, which were very crucial. But at the same time, we were a little short on the extra bowling, and he [Ishant] got injured. I think that was the part where we lacked. Because I think the boys actually pulled it back in the end, but it's part and parcel of the game,” DC’s captain added.&nbsp;

Sam Curran’s 63 eclipsed Rishabh Pant’s return to cricket as the home side emerged victorious in the first of the two matches on Saturday.

<h2>Rishabh Pant returns</h2>

Having missed the ODI World Cup, World Test Championship (WTC) and IPL 2023, Rishabh Pant was facing a race against time to be fit for the latest season. However, a speedy recovery coupled with great determination saw the Delhi Capitals man make a swift return to the IPL. Pant was greeted with a great ovation from the crowd in Mullanpur while opposition players also welcomed the wicketkeeper-batter back to the fold.

He came into bat when David Warner was judged out by the third umpire as PBKS used the DRS on the final ball of the eighth over. His stay however did not last long as he was dismissed by Harshal Patel on the fourth ball of the 13th over.

At the time of writing, Delhi Capitals were 141/7 in 18 overs as they struggled to capitalise after a decent start to their innings. David Warner departed for 29 while Mitchell Marsh made 20 off 12 before the duo was dismissed. Shai Hope was the top scorer with 33 while Axar Patel contributed 21 with the bat. Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 22/3 in 3 overs.

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant FINALLY makes much-awaited return, leads Delhi Capitals against Punjab Kings - WATCH

The second match of IPL 2024 will get underway at Punjab Kings’ new stadium in Chandigarh against their neighbouring rivals, Delhi Capitals, on Saturday (March 23). While Rishabh Pant’s return to competitive cricket after more than a year is set to make headlines, two teams beginning their new season with a common goal is what makes this contest mouth-watering. Here is the match preview and result prediction of the PBKS vs DC IPL game to be played.

<h2>Pant’s return to headline DC opener</h2>

Having survived a serious road accident in late 2022, ace India keeper-batter Rishabh Pant making his return to the cricket field will be a story in itself. The left-handed batter will captain the side in his first game since December 2022 and might keep wickets, going by their latest training session on the match eve.

Delhi’s top order will again hog all the limelight, with strong hitters like David Warner, Prithvi Shaw and Mitchell Marsh in their XI. While DC will need to address their missing firepower in the lower middle order, they need to pick&nbsp;between Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs for their tournament opener.

In the absence of Anrich Nortje and Jhye Richardson for the game against PBKS, Delhi will need the local players to step up and deliver. Their all-rounder Axar Patel will again hold the keys in this crucial game.

<h3>All eyes on Bairstow, Rabada</h3>

The home side will begin the&nbsp;new season at their new home stadium in Mullanpur, whose square and straight boundaries are longer than in Mohali, where they just won one out of the six games played last season.

However, given the addition of the new rule, which now allows bowlers to bowl two bouncers per over, the PBKS seamers will enjoy their time in implementing it against hard-hitting DC batters.&nbsp;

With all eyes on the seam-bowling pair of Kagiso Rabada and Arshdeep Singh, Sam Curran and Harshal will also enjoy bowling their back-of-the-hand slower ones.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the returning Jonny Bairstow will be the player to look out for.

Head-to-Head record

Of 32 matches played, both teams have won against each other 16 times.

Result Prediction

Punjab Kings might enter the contest with home support on their back, while Delhi, with a relatively balanced squad, will walk in as favourites.&nbsp;

Predicted Playing XIs –

PBKS - Shikhar Dhawan (c), Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shashank Singh, Sam Curran, Rahul Chahar, Harpreet Brar, Kagiso Rabada and Harshal Patel&nbsp;

Arshdeep Singh (Impact Player)

"We are about to start an IPL, it's really an exciting time of the year. It becomes more exciting when your captain is back in your team. He is our leader, he is the heartbeat of this franchise and having him back is going to make this team a lot stronger."

"We had a week's training in Vizag before coming here and trust me Rishabh is back and ready to play. He will be a little bit nervous tomorrow, playing his first game in a while but nerves are always good because it means something to you. I've seen where his game is at, and don't be surprised if something special happens tomorrow," the former Aussie captain added.

IPL 2024: 'Jittery, nervous, excited' - Delhi Capitals' captain Rishabh Pant ahead of opener vs PBKS

IPL 2024 is set to kick off on March 22 (Friday) with defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) taking on Royal Challengers Bengaluru&nbsp;(RCB) in Chennai. While there is a lot of buzz on MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli's return to action, there are eyes on Hardik Pandya and how he will do as Mumbai Indians (MI) captain. Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant's comeback is also generating a lot of noise.

Pant is returning to competitive cricket after a 14-month gap, post his horrific car crash in December 2022. Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra opened up on Pant's return, who will be captaining the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming season. Chopra stated that while emotions are high among the public to see Pant's return, he also stresses on how it might be difficult for him to get going after a long gap. The keeper-batter's form will be crucial as if he succeeds in IPL 2024, he will also be in the running to &nbsp;feature in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad (which commences soon after the IPL in West Indies and USA).

On his YouTube channel, Chopra said, "Opportunities are absolutely plenty. Our emotional quotient has gone very high for Rishabh Pant. We are all waiting for Rishabh Pant to come, hit and shine. Everyone has even started talking about the T20 World Cup, that he will reach there if he scores runs."
