French officials said one person had been found shot dead in an industrial zone, with High Commissioner Louis le Franc saying the shot did not come from police but "from someone who probably was defending himself".

The French government said the change in voting rules, which lawmakers backed by 351 to 153 in favour, was needed so elections would be democratic in the country's territory.

Macron has offered to hold dialogue between New Caledonia's pro- and anti-independence camps before a special congress of the two houses of parliament rubber-stamps the bill.

The major pro-independence political group, Front de Liberation Nationale Kanak et Socialiste (FLNKS), said in a statement on Wednesday it would accept Macron's offer of dialogue and was willing to work toward an agreement "that would allow New Caledonia to follow its path toward emancipation".

On Wednesday morning, Lilou Garrido Navarro Kherachi, 19, drove around protestor blockades in Noumea and saw burning cars and buildings, including a ruined veterinary clinic where the neighbors had evacuated the animals before the fire spread.

Police were outnumbered by protestors, she told Reuters.

"The real problem is the youngsters who trash, burn and loot. We didn't see any police deployed on site," she said.

French retailer Decathlon said in a statement its New Caledonia store had been vandalised, looted and burnt overnight, after 10 years of trading.

Within hours riots had also taken root in the city of Lae, some 300 kilometres (186.41 miles) to the north. &nbsp;

Prime Minister James Marape on Thursday apologised to the country, saying the bursts of "lawlessness" would "not be tolerated".&nbsp;

"I want to speak today, speak to the people and speak to the country," he said at a press conference.&nbsp;

"This is your country as much as it's my country. Breaking the law does not achieve certain outcomes."&nbsp;

Police Commissioner David Manning confirmed at least 15 people were killed during the outbreak of civil unrest.

Port Moresby's largest hospital treated 25 people with gunshot wounds, according to figures provided to AFP, as well as six people with "bush knife" lacerations.

AFPTV footage showed looters in the capital dashing into stores through smashed glass windows, stuffing stolen goods into cardboard boxes, shopping trolleys and plastic buckets.&nbsp;

One man was seen lugging an entire chest freezer away on his shoulders. &nbsp;

Buildings and cars were set alight, AFPTV footage showed, stirring up thick plumes of black smoke that hung over the worst-hit parts of the city.

The US Embassy in Port Moresby said shots were fired near its compound as police tried to "disperse groups of looters". &nbsp;

Earlier, a smaller crowd gathered outside the prime minister's office in Port Moresby, tearing a security gate off its rails and torching a parked police car.

Beijing has lodged a complaint with Papua New Guinea's government, following reports that rioters targeted Chinese-owned businesses.&nbsp;

Port Moresby resident Maho Laveil, an economics lecturer at the University of Papua New Guinea, said peace had "largely been restored" by Thursday evening.&nbsp;

"They've chased the looters away, they've stopped the buildings from burning," he told AFP.&nbsp;

- 'End this strife' - 
National Capital District governor Powes Parkop said the unrest represented an "unprecedented level of strife" in Port Moresby, while local newspaper the Post Courier called it the city's "darkest day".&nbsp;

"What is most important is that we must end this strife," Parkop told a local radio station Wednesday evening.&nbsp;

"Nobody will be a winner in this type of civil unrest."

As many as 15 people who stormed a Russian airport runway and tried to encircle a plane that had flown in from Israel were sentenced to prison by courts on Wednesday (Nov 1).

Courts in Dagestan, a Muslim-majority region, jailed the rioters for between two and ten days for their involvement in the anti-Jewish incident, the TASS news agency reported. Whereas, two more were ordered to complete 60 hours of forced labour.

The incident happened on Sunday when the Red Wing Airlines flight from Tel Aviv landed at Makhachkala Uytash Airport around 7 pm (local time).

Soon a mob of angry crowd holding Palestinian flags surrounded the plane.

Reportedly, they also shouted slogans such as “We are against Jewish refugees,” and “There is no place for child-killers in Dagestan.”

The airport was temporarily closed and flights were diverted, a statement from the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency said.

Authorities said at least 20 people were injured and 60 people were detained. Many Jewish leaders condemned the incident, likening the incident to Tsar-era pogroms.

On Tuesday, a prominent rabbi in Russia, Boruch Gorin, slammed the Russian authorities over the antisemetic riots calling the incident an “eternal disgrace.”

The powerful police union, Alliance, said the ruling was "incomprehensible and very unfair".

The killing of a teenager by a police officer in France has led to clashes for five days in a row, though the scale of the violence has partially decreased and there are still many issues to resolve. French President Emmanuel Macron has evaluated the steps taken so far to prevent further escalation of the violence.

France President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday (June 30) that social media platforms like TikTok and Snapchat should cooperate with French authorities to contain the violence which has erupted in France after the killing of a 17-year-old boy by a police officer.

"Social media platforms play a significant role in the events of the past few days,"&nbsp;Macron said in televised remarks from a government emergency meeting.

Macron mentioned TikTok and Snapchat and said that social media helps rioters organise the riots and such posts also contributed to "mimicking" behaviour by some youngsters.

"It sometimes feels like some of them re-live in the streets the video games that have intoxicated them," he said.

Macron said that the government will work with social media networks towards withdrawing "the most sensitive types of content". He also said that the government was asking social media companies to disclose to French authorities the identities of "those who use these social networks to call for disorder and promote violence".

The French president said that a total of 492 structures have been damaged, 2,000 vehicles have been burned and 3,880 fires have started nationwide.

The nationwide unrest in France has come in the wake of the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Nahel. The death of a youth of North African origin has revived grievances about policing and racial profiling.

Around 40,000 police and gendarmes -- along with elite Raid and GIGN units -- were deployed in several cities overnight, with curfews issued in municipalities around Paris and bans on public gatherings in Lille and Tourcoing in the country's north.

But in spite of the massive security deployment, there were reports of violence and damage in multiple areas.&nbsp;

The latest figures from the interior ministry on Friday afternoon showed that 875 people were arrested overnight. More than two hundred police officers were injured, but none of them seriously.

Rioting apparently linked to the Paris police shooting had even followed Macron to the Belgian capital, with Brussels police reporting 63 people detained late Thursday for setting fires and erecting barricades.
