Ever-so-often the camera will fixes at one of the actor's faces in the film, trying to capture his or her expression- with no dialogue being spoken by another character at that time. Through various song montages, it is established how Shakun and Rizwan develop a unique bond- that of a mentor and disciple. But the bonhomie will obviously not last for long- and the plot in its second half takes a predictable course where Rizwaan a rookie who made in big in too short a time, gets to undo the misdeeds and get back on track. Now, a film based on share trading and stock market always needs to be oversimplified simply because most viewers may not know the way share-trading works. While the screenplay initially tries to explain the little nitty-gritty of share trading, it gives up soon enough. The screenplay, for some strange reason, gives importance to how the characters stare at each other. Ever-so-often the camera will fixes at one of the actor's faces in the film, trying to capture his or her expression- with no dialogue being spoken by another character at that time. Such moments are in plenty in the film and makes the narrative just longer unnecessarily. It also doesn't help that the plot is so predictable, that you know at the interval how the film will pan out in the second half and what would be each of the character's trajectory by the end. Khan though tries to rise up a flimsy screenplay and play the sharp, ruthless share trader with conviction. His character is from Surat and he is made to slip into Gujarati lines ever-so-often which seem unnecessary. But Khan has played similar characters in better-written films before, where you couldn't help but fall for his charm while hating him at the same time. In 'Bazaar' Khan's Shakun is sharp but the impact of his character is much less. Late actor Vinod Mehra's son Rohan Mehra gives a credible performance too. He has the maximum screen time in the film and delivers a formidable performance- not overdoing it at any time. But ultimately his performance is marred to an extent by a poorly written screenplay. The women in the film, Radhika Apte and Chitrangada Singh are sidelined in this story of power struggle and their scenes are far less than those of the men. Bazaar may have a good set of actors, but ultimately a stretched narrative and poorly written characters mar the film to a great extent. <p>Ayushman Khurrana plays Akaash, a blind pianist who had gifted fingers and plays the piano like a dream. He lands a gig for himself at Pune's hip restaurant Franco and also falls in love with the owner's daughter Sofie, (Radhika Apte). A regular patron of the restaurant, yesteryear's actor Pramod Sinha (Anil Dhawan) asks him to come home on his anniversary and play for his wife Simi (Tabu). It's only when Akaash reaches Sinha's home, does he realize that a murder has happened.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Raghavan's taut thriller has twists in abundance, with no character completely black or white. Everyone has a motive, and everyone is unpredictable. They don't always do what they say, so after a point, you keep anticipating for the next twist. It's interesting how Raghavan first surprises you with the twists, (I found myself gaping in shock twice in the first half), and then by the time you get used to that fact the narrative has surprises in store for you, you start anticipating the next twist making the entire film extremely engrossing.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film not only has an engaging plot, but the star cast is superb. There are of course the leads- Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu, Radhika Apte- who are perfectly cast in their roles, but it also has a superb supporting cast. Be it Hussain as the 'nice' doctor who smuggles organs, or Manav Vij who plays the cop who is at wrong places at the wrong time, or the child actor- Kabir Sajid, who is always suspicious of Akaash- each of the actors are well suited to their characters.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Leading man Ayushmann Khurrana, who has now become the poster boy of slice-of-life films, attempts a thriller for the first time and does justice to it. Khurrana's choice of films is always unique making him the ideal actor along with Rajkummar Rao to play the regular guy. His Akaash is not a very simple, straightforward guy and he knows how to manipulate people around him. Khurrana delivers a restraint performance- a stark contrast from the typical north Indian boy we are used to seeing in play on the big screen. Khurrana is pitch perfect as Akaash.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The film, though belongs to Tabu who channels her inner Lady Macbeth, infuses drama, vulnerability and certain quirk to her character making Simi a very interesting character on screen. You enjoy watching Simi plot evil plans, you laugh out when she plays coy. It is so good to see the actress in a role that lets her perform to her hilt and she doesn't disappoint.</p>

<p>Had the second half been a bit shorter, the film would have been so much more fun but I am willing to ignore that bit because of Raghavan's style of storytelling triumphs over these flaws.&nbsp;</p>

And while the men skirt around the issue at hand, it is Reena, the bored housewife having an affair outside her marriage, who takes charge and gets her sweet, subtle revenge.&nbsp;<br />

Perhaps the most in-your-face story on lust is delivered by Karan Johar and predictably so. Johar's story is of new bride Megha(Kiara Advani in a refreshing act) who never finds any sexual satisfaction from her over-enthusiastic, naive husband Paras (played by the brilliant Vicky Kaushal). Paras is a man of five thrusts literally who never understands the concept of giving any kind of pleasure to his wife while making love. So Megha decides to take things in her own hand which ultimately has some hilarious consequences. Now, Johar always has had the ability to laugh at himself and here too uses an age-old&nbsp;popular 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' theme song in the most convoluted situation- you will never see that song in the same way after watch 'Lust Stories'.&nbsp;</p>

Just hope we get to see more of her on the big screen from now on. Zoya Kahtar's leading lady, Bhumi Pednekar emotes through her eyes. She barely has two lines in the film, but with just through her expressions, she plays Sudha - the housemaid with momentary dreams in her eyes and ultimate realisation of her place in the social strata brilliantly.&nbsp;</p>

There is a certain glint of sarcasm in her eyes as she quietly observes her husband's buffoonery.&nbsp;<br />

Among the men, Jaideep Ahlawat and Vicky Kaushal stand out distinctly as the inept, unaware, weak men to their strong women in life. Vicky Kaushal is endearing as the fumbling, inadequate husband who never really gets his wife. It's amazing to see the actor portray such a different character from what he has played earlier. 2018 is clearly turning out to be Kaushal's year- and rightfully so.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The much-awaited show, produced by Phantom Films, is based in and shot in India. It is based on the critically-acclaimed best-selling novel of the same name by author Vikram Chandra, read a statement.&nbsp</p>

<p>The series is co-directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap, both acclaimed names in Indian cinema.</p>

<p>In an earlier interview, Motwane had said the show is like a "guinea pig" in the Indian market, and that there is pressure on them to "deliver a great show".</p>

<p>Bollywood actress Radhika Apte who is currently riding high on the success of her recently released film&nbsp;<em>PadMan</em>, revealed in an interview that while she worked in the Tamil cinema, she slapped a co-star of hers for misbehaving.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Starring on Neha Dhupia&#39;s show BFFs with Vogue, Radhika spilt beans on the incident as Rajkummar Rao who appeared on the chat show with her looked on.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Telling Neha Dhupia, Radhika said, &ldquo;It was my first day on the set and a famous south actor started to tickle my feet. I was stunned as we&rsquo;d never met before and I instinctively slapped him.&rdquo;</p>

And <em>PadMan</em>, despite its mildly over-bearing, holier than thou tone, doesn&rsquo;t waste a single moment to drive home a very important point that there is an urgent need to spread awareness around menstrual health.</p>

<p>Based on the real-life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, <em>PadMan</em> has Akshay Kumar playing a middle-school dropout Lakshmikant Chauhan who despite his limited school knowledge is an innovator. In love with his wife Gayatri, he finds various ways to make her feel comfortable. He invents a small chopping device so that Gayatri(Radhika Apte) doesn&rsquo;t tear up while cutting onions, he adds a wooden chair at the back of his bicycle so that she can sit comfortably. And similarly gets perturbed to see her live in isolation every month for five days when she gets her periods and use&nbsp;cloth instead of sanitary napkins.</p>

<p>While Lakshmi, as a thoughtful husband, wants to break the taboo around menstruation, the women in his house are visibly scandalized when he offers them a pad that is made by him. The film then traces the maverick innovator&#39;s journey of a village man simply concerned about his wife&rsquo;s health to a visionary who shows the world how to make cheaper sanitary napkins.</p>

<p><em>PadMan</em> doesn&rsquo;t waste too much time in addressing the core theme of the film and shows Lakshmi as the practical man trying to break taboos around menstruation, the film trudges on till the interval and often sounds a bit preachy. Gauri, Lakshmi&rsquo;s wife, basically represents all the stereotypes while Lakshmi represents liberal thinking and their scenes, after a point, become monotonous with Lakshmi more or less harping the same thing as Gauri keeps defying him meekly.</p>

<p>Unlike other films, <em>PadMan </em>picks up the pace in the second half where, after relentless persuasion, Lakshmi finally cracks the code of making perfect, low-cost sanitary napkins. A chance encounter with Pari(Sonam Kapoor), an idealist, activist whose father is an IIT professor, helps him take his innovation to Delhi and even win awards. The scenes where Pari and Lakshmi together convince other women of the village to not only use his low-cost pads but also mobilize them to create such pads on their own in smaller factories are truly inspiring. Some of the film&rsquo;s brightest moments lie in the way Pari, an MBA graduate, and Lakshmi, mobilizes women folk to become self-reliant.</p>

<p>The film is tailor made for Akshay Kumar and he shines throughout. He may appear too urban in the beginning of the film, but his simpleton act is ultimately convincing and endearing. A scene has Kumar delivering a long monologue in broken English and for an actor who is well versed with the language in real life, Kumar manages to pull off the scene with utmost conviction, with not a single false not. Also, the scene where Kumar explains to a bunch of dignitaries how his innovation works with hand movements, its pure joy to watch. Kumar, over the past decade, has balanced formula films and author-backed roles with great aplomb and PadMan will remain one of his career&rsquo;s high point. His Lakshmi is tad irritating, mad, simple and above all a visionary. And Kumar serves as the perfect poster boy for Make In India campaign with this role.</p>

<p>Sonam Kapoor, a young bright do-gooder who helps Lakshmi learn how &lsquo;to fly&rsquo; is also perfect in her role. Kapoor, who has evolved as an actress over the past years, plays a catalyst of sorts and delivers a convincing performance. Perhaps the most conventional character in the film that of Radhika Apte&#39;s who as the conservative housewife grappling with a very liberal husband delivers a commendable performance. Known for her acting prowess, Radhika&rsquo;s role is perhaps the toughest and anyone could have easily hammed. But Radhika&rsquo;s restraint performance makes her Gayatri look innocent, vulnerable and emotional. Even though you know that she ticks all stereotypes and plays to the gallery &ndash; you may still empathise with her as she stares helplessly at her husband&#39;s maverick ideas.</p>

The detailing is a bit too much to take. But maybe it is meant for an audience which needs to be spoon-fed about the benefits of menstrual hygiene and which is why R Balki keeps the narrative simple and linear. The only glitch in the entire story is an unnecessary romantic track that is introduced in the second half which sort of deviates the story for a few minutes.</p>

<p>Amit Trivedi&rsquo;s music blends in the narrative perfectly but none of the songs really stand out. They are treated literally as a tool to over-explain the story.</p>

For women, it is a story that all too familiar- some of the privileged lot may not identify with the film but surely they can sympathise with those who cannot afford expensive sanitary pads or those who go through various archaic rituals every month because of periods. More importantly,<em> PadMan</em> serves to a greater audience and enables a discussion which &ndash; if not anything else- is a good start towards spreading more awareness. Never mind how the story unfolds on screen, it ultimately serves its purpose and is&nbsp;for a greater good.</p>

<p>Akshay Kumar&#39;s film Padman is making all the right noises even before its release. A film that aims to break the taboo around menstruation, Padman is helmed by R Balki and has been written by Twinkle Khanna who has also turned producer for the film.&nbsp;<br />

While the film is being hailed for starting a conversation around menstruation in public, it has also achieved another feat recently. Slated to release in India on 9th February, PadMan will also be releasing in Russia, Ivory Coast and Iraq on the same day.&nbsp;<br />
