The film was released in Britain on June 3 but after protests outside cinemas, the world's second-largest cinema chain, Cineworld, cancelled all screenings.

Calling Sharma's remarks highly derogatory, Pakistan said it condemns them in the "strongest possible terms."

While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar and the State of Kuwait summoned the Indian ambassador to there respective countries, Qatar said it welcomed the (BJP) party's decision to suspend the official but it is expecting an apology.

Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks who stirred controversy in 2007 over his depiction of Prophet Mohammed as a dog died in a car accident on Sunday. The 75-year-old cartoonist and two police officers were killed as the car they were travelling in collided with an oncoming truck.

Swedish police have ruled out the possibility of a foul play.

"We want to completely exclude an external act targeting the car in which Lars Vilks found himself," Stefan Sinteus, chief of the South Sweden regional investigation unit, told a press conference.

"There is nothing to indicate that, but we want to be certain so we can rule it out," he added.&nbsp;

Police said they have yet to determine the reason why the vehicle that was carrying Vilks and the two officers swerved off the road, breaking through a metal barrier before hitting a truck travelling in the opposite direction in the oncoming lane. A tyre explosion is one of the hypotheses.

On February 14, 2015, a young Danish man of Palestinian origin opened fire when he tried to storm a debate on freedom of expression in Copenhagen, organised after the deadly attack on the Paris offices of satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.

Vilks escaped unharmed but a 55-year-old Danish film director and a guard at Copenhagen synagogue were both shot dead by the gunman, who was himself killed in a stand-off with Danish police.

Macron's government has also prepared a bill to prevent radicalisation. This was proposed earlier this year. Some tough measures have been proposed. Homeschooling will be restricted to discourage Madrasa styled education. There is provision for harsh punishment for those who intimidate public officials on legal grounds. The proposed law also wants children to have an identification number. A number that can be used to ensure that they are attending school. Parents who will break this law could face up to six months in prison, as well as large fines.

Macron's crackdown on radical Islam is being welcomed but he is getting his share of criticism too.&nbsp;

As per a new security law tabled by his government, filming the police will be banned. Anyone found in violation of the provision can be fined up to USD 53,000 and/or sent to jail for a year.

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Thursday said that a satirical magazine like Charlie Hebdo could not exist in Russia. At the same time, Peskov termed October 16 beheading of French teacher Samuel Paty a "horrifying tragedy". He was talking to Kommersant FM radio.

He further said that every faith lived in full respect of each other and stated it as the reason why a publication like Charlie Hebdo was not possible in Russia.

He declined to answer whether it was acceptable to caricaturise Prophet Mohammed.

Several teachings in Islam forbid the pictorial depiction of Prophet Mohammed. Charlie Hebdo's headquarters in Paris were targetted in a terrorist attack in 2015 after it caricaturised Prophet Mohammed.

Cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed were published by Danish daily Jyllands-Posten in 2005, leading to widespread protests and anger among many Muslim communities, to whom depictions of the prophet are forbidden.
