"It was exactly the kind of reaction that we expected from the team after the poor performance in the second half against City. Coming back after two equalisers also showed the right mentality. We were really aggressive in those moments and also defended well in the last seven, eight minutes and in the end, I think we deserved to win," Rangnick told MUTV.

Didn't expect him to score three goals: Ralf Rangnick on Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick against Spurs

As Tom Brady walked onto the Old Trafford field to greet Cristiano Ronaldo after the Manchester United striker's hat-trick in Saturday's 3-2 Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur there was a knowing smile on his face.

What would surely have most impressed former NFL great Brady, who retired last month aged 44, was not the stunning 25 metre opener nor the well-placed header to win the match nine minutes from time but the look of determination, bordering on anger, that the 37-year-old Ronaldo had throughout the game.

Brady was not like that. He kept his emotions well hidden for most of his Hall of Fame career as a quarterback for the New England Patriots and latterly the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring with a record seven Super Bowl triumphs.

But while a fist-pump or a back-slap might have been as emotional as Brady managed publicly in most games, there was never any doubt he burned with the same passion and desire as fellow Greatest of All Time (GOAT) contender Ronaldo.

The Portuguese has scored 18 goals so far this season, after returning to United from Italian club Juventus, but there has been continuous chatter from pundits that he is a 'problem' for the club and more recently suggestions that all is not well in his rapport with interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

So there was an extra fire in Ronaldo's performance on Saturday and United's World Cup-winning French midfielder Paul Pogba addressed the issue head on.

"He has never been a problem. You have the best striker in history in our team, it cannot be a problem. Today he showed why he is Cristiano Ronaldo. The performance from him and all the team was very brilliant," he said.

“Everybody knows Cristiano – there’s no need to talk about him. That’s what he does. He didn’t play in the last game, but he comes back and scores three goals. Everybody’s happy."

DECISIVE RONALDO

Tottenham's Italian manager Antonio Conte had no doubt about the impact of the five-times Ballon d'Or winner on the game.

"Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two best players in the world in this era. When you play against this type of player, they’re decisive. Without Cristiano Ronaldo, for United it wouldn’t have been a good night," he said.

His German counterpart Rangnick was quick to praise the team performance but could not ignore the display by the former Real Madrid and Juventus man.

"Today it was his best performance, at least since I arrived. He was good in training on Thursday and that is why I decided to start him. Fantastic performance by him but also by the rest of the team," he said.

The crowd lapped it up with Old Trafford loudly showing its appreciation.

"He can do (that) but again he can also do it only with the team. A fantastic performance. It was not just the three goals today it was also that he was part of the team when they were in possession of the ball," added Rangnick.

With Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick, Tom Brady witnesses another GOAT defy the years

Cristiano Ronaldo answered all the questions about his continuing value to Manchester United with a superb hat-trick to secure a 3-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur in an entertaining Premier League contest on Saturday.

Just six days after doubts were raised about his injury absence for the Manchester derby and at the end of a week marked by tabloid speculation over his relationship with interim manager Ralf Rangnick, the 37-year-old delivered a reminder of just why United chose to bring him back to Old Trafford.

The five-times Ballon d'Or winner headed the winner nine minutes from time before he was promptly taken off to ecstatic cheers. It was the 807th goal of his career, laying claim to professional football's all-time leading scorer record.

With the whole stadium chanting 'Viva Ronaldo', the atmosphere at Old Trafford, which has endured a disappointing season, was back to the heady days of September when the forward scored twice against Newcastle United on his return to the club.

The result moves United two points above Arsenal and back into fourth place, although the Gunners have four games in hand starting with Sunday's home match against Leicester City.

Pundits, like former United captain Roy Keane, had questioned whether Ronaldo truly was injured for the 4-1 loss at Premier League leaders City while his decision to fly back to Portugal for his rehab also raised questions.

When asked before the Tottenham game whether Ronaldo was happy with his situation, Rangnick said: "I don't know. I haven't asked him if he's happy at Manchester and at this club."

But the way the team celebrated his goals and the look of determination, almost anger, on the 37-year-old's Ronaldo's face after each goal, sent a clear message.

“Everybody knows Cristiano – there’s no need to talk about him. That’s what he does. He didn’t play in the last game, but he comes back and scores three goals. Everybody’s happy," said midfielder Paul Pogba.

“Ronaldo was brilliant. I think that’s all we needed - a reaction. We scored beautiful goals. Even when we conceded a goal, we came back and scored again. The mentality was there again today.

Ronaldo put United ahead in the 12th minute with a spectacular long-range blast from over 20 metres out after he had collected a clever flick from Fred.

But a Harry Kane penalty brought Spurs level in the 35th, after a cross from Dejan Kulusevski had struck Alex Telles' arm.

Three minutes later, though, the Portugal forward restored United's advantage, slotting home after Jadon Sancho broke the offside trap and set up Ronaldo with a low cross.

Tottenham restored parity in the 72nd with an own goal by United captain Harry Maguire who slid in to inadvertently divert a low cross from Sergio Reguilon past David De Gea.

But Ronaldo, who had twice tested keeper Hugo Lloris after the break, settled the contest with a powerful header from an Alex Telles corner.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick said Manchester United know they can hardly afford to drop any more points if the Reds are to qualify for next season's UEFA Champions League by finishing in the Premier League's top four.

Manchester City showed their quality in the second half of Sunday's derby and a 4-1 defeat for United means the race for the top four is now an uphill struggle.

Rangnick believes United still can beat rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur to be in that leading quartet, but that the team will be taking it game-by-game.

The German coach after the match said: "I didn't actually expect Arsenal to lose at Watford so for us, it's clear, if we still want to have a chance to finish fourth at the end of the season, we can almost not drop any more points, and we also know that in those 10 games that we have to play, there are a few other difficult ones so let's take it game by game."

"For us, it's important we keep developing the team, which we did in the last couple of months, and then make sure we can win the next two home games against Tottenham and against Atletico, two very important games for us to come," he added.

Can't afford to drop any more points, says Man Utd's Ralf Rangnick as race for top 4 intensifies

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick rejected any suggestion that there was more to Cristiano Ronaldo's absence from his team for Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Manchester City than a hip injury.

Former United captain Roy Keane had questioned how genuine the injury was during the Sky Sports broadcast of the derby, saying: "We talk about Ronaldo being some sort of machine, he's very rarely injured and then every now and again he comes out... and says hip flexor. It doesn’t add up to me."

Keane made similar comments after the game and Rangnick was asked in his news conference to respond.

“The doctor came to see me on Friday and told me Cristiano cannot train due to a problem with his hip flexor and the same was true on Saturday and that’s why he couldn’t be part of the squad,” Rangnick said.

“It’s just a fact if players tell the medical department that they are injured and they cannot play I have to accept it," he added.

United were also without their Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani due to injury but Rangnick said he had been fit enough to train.

"Edi trained in the last three days, he trained well but he still felt after those three training sessions yesterday afternoon that he is still not fit to play. This is a fact. As a manager, I cannot force a player if he does not feel fit enough or well enough to play," said the German.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has said that the chants for the club's former Russian owner Roman Abramovich from fans were not right during applause for Ukraine.

During the Premier League game against Burnley, tribute for Ukraine was interrupted by calls in support of the Russian owner, who is now selling the club.

"Listen, if we show solidarity, we show solidarity and we should do it together. We take the knee together. If an important person from another club or from our club unfortunately dies, we show a minute of respect. It's not the moment to give other messages. It's a moment to show respect," Goal.com quoted Tuchel as saying.

"We want that we do this because this is what we are as a club. We show respect as a club and we need our fans to commit to this minute of applause at the moment. We do it for Ukraine. There is no second opinion about the situation there and that they have our thoughts and our support, and we should stand together as a club. It is not the moment for other messages," he added.

A brace from Kai Havertz, and a goal each from Reece James and Christian Pulisic helped Chelsea thrash Burnley 4-0.

Earlier this week, Chelsea FC's Russian owner Roman Abramovich had confirmed he will sell the club after spending 19 years in charge of the club.

Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen started his first competitive game since suffering a cardiac arrest as he helped his side to a vital 3-1 win at Norwich City on Saturday.

The Dane, who needed life-saving treatment on the pitch during Euro 2020 after collapsing against Finland in June last year and has a special device fitted in his heart, marked the occasion with his first assist for his new club.

It was Eriksen's corner that was eventually turned in by Ivan Toney who then scored two penalties after the break.

Eriksen, who came on as a substitute against Newcastle United in Brentford's last game, played the full match.

"I wouldn't say it was a new chapter, I would say it's my life continuing," the former Tottenham Hotspur player, whose contract with Inter Milan was curtailed, told the BBC.

"Of course I've had a bit of a setback, it's taken me a few months, but after that it's been about getting my family back together and being a normal family again.

"Being here now, eight or nine months later is incredible."

"It was a top delivery for the first goal and there were some top passes so very pleased to see that.

Victory eased Brentford's relegation fears although they are still in danger in 15th place with 27 points and having played more games than all the teams beneath them.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte said that it was impossible to find a quick fix for the inconsistency plaguing his team, pointing to the Premier League club's chequered performance in recent years.

Conte, who took over in November, has been tasked with reviving the fortunes of Spurs, who were Champions League finalists in 2019 but are now struggling to get into the top four.

Spurs have lost five of their last eight matches in all competitions and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Championship side Middlesbrough on Tuesday.

"Tottenham's story is this, many ups and downs, but ... to try to fight for something important and become a strong team, the first thing that has to happen is to be stable," Conte told reporters on Friday ahead of his side's home game against Everton on Monday night.

"In a short time it's impossible to do this, not only for me but I think for any manager or coach to come in and change the story in one second."

Conte also called for transparency from his club's medical staff, asking them to explain the extended absence of Oliver Skipp. The 21-year-old last played for Spurs in January and Conte said on Feb. 8 that he was hoping to have the midfielder back within 10 days.

Chelsea will not have a queue of buyers lining up outside Stamford Bridge, according to one of the advisors who helped Roman Abramovich purchase the Premier League club in 2003.

Abramovich announced he was putting the west London club up for sale after 19 trophy-laden years on Wednesday in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"In all likelihood there aren't going to be 20 or 30 people queuing up to buy this," investment banker and corporate takeover advisor Keith Harris told BBC Radio 4's Today Programme on Friday.

Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante said the Premier League team's players were caught off guard by Roman Abramovich's decision to sell the club following Russia's invasion of Ukraine but urged them to stay focused on their quest to finish in the top four.

Premier League: Captains to wear special armbands in Ukrainian colours to show support

Leeds United on Sunday confirmed that the Premier League club have parted company with head coach Marcelo Bielsa.

The 66-year-old was in charge of the team for over three-and-a-half years, having taken the reins in June 2018.

He transformed the club's fortunes on the pitch, which began with the 3-1 demolition of Stoke City at Elland Road two months later and he led Leeds to the Championship Play-Offs in his first full season in charge.

In his second campaign, Bielsa succeeded where those before him had failed, guiding the club to the Championship title, winning the division by 10 points, and resulting in promotion back to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

On the club's return to the top-flight, Leeds finished ninth, securing the highest points tally by a newly promoted side in the Premier League since the 2000/01 campaign.

However, this season has proved to be difficult and the team has recorded just five Premier League wins.

Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani said: "This has been the toughest decision I have had to make during my tenure at Leeds United, taking into account all the success Marcelo has had at the club."

"With Marcelo as our head coach, we had three incredible campaigns and the good times returned to Elland Road. He changed the culture of the club and brought a winning mentality to us all. The moments created, particularly in the 2019/20 season and winning promotion to the Premier League, will, of course, live long in all our memories, myself and the fans included."

"However, I have to act in the best interest of the club and I believe a change is required now in order to secure our Premier League status. Recent results and performances have not met our expectations. We find ourselves in a precarious league position and I feel now is the right time to bring in a new head coach, in order to have an impact in the decisive stage of the season."

Plans for a permanent tribute to Marcelo at Elland Road are underway. Leeds United will also aim to make an announcement on a new appointment on Monday.

Premier League: Phil Foden's goal helps Man City restore six-point lead, Watford draw against Man Utd

A Leicester City supporter who assaulted three Nottingham Forest players during the sides` FA Cup fourth-round match has been sentenced to four months in prison and banned from attending soccer games for 10 years, the prosecutors said on Thursday.

Cameron Toner, 19, ran onto the pitch and attacked Forest players while they were celebrating their third goal in a shock 4-1 win over the holders at the City Ground on Feb. 6. Toner, who was charged with three counts of common assault and going onto a playing area at a football match, pleaded guilty to the charges at the Nottingham Magistrates Court on Friday.

"Cameron Toner committed an act of unprovoked violence in front of thousands and in doing so left the criminal justice system no option but to prevent him from attending future matches," said Marianne Connally from the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court ruled that Toner had been drinking before the game, adding that it was "a determined attack" on Forest players. Leicester had condemned the incident and banned Toner for life.

The 2019-20 winners Liverpool narrowed the gap with Premier League leaders Manchester City to just three points after a thumping 6-0 win at home to Leeds United. Two penalties from Mohamed Salah and a close-range finish from Joel Matip put Liverpool 3-0 up at the break against a rival that, as usual, looked lively in attack and vulnerable in defense.

Sadio Mane netted a fourth for Liverpool in the 80th minute after Salah and Jordan Henderson combined to give the Senegalese forward an open goal on Wednesday night. There was still time for two more goals, as Mane netted his second and Liverpool`s fifth in the 90th minute from close range. Virgil van Dijk then added a sixth with a powerful header from a corner as his side sounded out a warning to Pep Guardiola`s Manchester City, reports Xinhua.

City are at the top of the table with 63 points from 26 matches with Liverpool now moving to 60 off 26. Chelsea are placed third with 50 points but have a match to play.

Meanwhile, in other matches on the night, Watford coach Roy Hodgson had an unhappy reunion with his former club as Crystal Palace won 4-1 at Vicarage Road to deepen Watford`s relegation worries.

Although Moussa Sissoko quickly canceled out Jean-Phillipe Matete`s 15th-minute opener for the visitors, Conor Gallagher continued his excellent form with a 42nd-minute effort to restore Palace`s lead and two late goals from Wilfried Zaha gave the final score a sheen that flattered the visitors.

According to media reports, the Football Association is aware of the incident involving Elanga and is looking into it, with Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick and Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa condemning the action of supporters involved.

Police arrest nine after Manchester United's intense 4-2 Premier League win over Leeds

When a relentless Manchester City pipped Liverpool to claim the Premier League crown in 2019 it was widely regarded as one of the most epic title races in top-flight history.

After a stunning plot twist in the latest round of fixtures, this season's run-in has the potential to be every bit as compelling with City and Liverpool the protagonists again.

When Liverpool stumbled around Christmas, dropping seven points in three games, it looked for all the world as though Pep Guardiola's City were running away with it.

Churning out win after win the champions opened a 12-point lead in January while Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp was having to make do without forward duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane -- both away at the African Cup of Nations.

Liverpool began their game struggling Norwich City on Saturday nine points adrift with a match in hand, but when they still trailed to Joel Matip's fluke own goal with under half an hour left it appeared they were about to suffer a knockout blow.

Mane, Salah and Luis Diaz turned it around, however, and later in the day City were stunned by out-of-form Tottenham Hotspur, losing 3-2 at home -- their first defeat since October ending a run of 14 wins and a draw in 15 games.

"It looks like we could have title race" chimed former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher in his role as Sky Sports pundit. Even with his red-tinted glasses on, he is right.

Liverpool, who have won their last eight games in all competitions, host Leeds United on Wednesday.

Win that and they will be three points behind City with both teams having 12 games left to play.

EPIC FINALE

Throw in the fact that their goal differences are almost identical and that City host Liverpool on April 9, no wonder people are recalling the epic finale to the 2018-19 season.

At the same juncture of that season, Liverpool were leading with 65 points from 26 games, with City on 62.

If Liverpool beat Leeds it will be 63-60 in City's favour.

The Tottenham result was more than likely a blip for City and they will no doubt start compiling another winning run, but Liverpool are building the sort of momentum Guardiola's side enjoyed when winning their last 14 games in 2018-19 to claim the title with 98 points to Liverpool's 97.

"Saturday's swing underlines why you can't hand out the Premier League prizes in January or February," former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy said in the Mail on Sunday.

"The truth is Manchester City and Liverpool are closely matched so a one-club procession was never on the cards. Either would be worthy champions. It promises to be a fascinating race and the weekend added to the intrigue."

Liverpool, who have the distraction of the League Cup final this weekend against Chelsea, play Manchester United, West Ham and Arsenal before what could be a seismic title showdown with City on April 9.

Manchester City's stumble against Tottenham Hotspur might pave way for another epic title duel

Second-half goals from substitutes Fred and Anthony Elanga earned Manchester United a 4-2 victory over Leeds United in a thriller at Elland Road in the Premier League on Sunday.

In a red-hot atmosphere, the visitors took the lead in the 34th minute, with captain Harry Maguire heading home to score his side's first league goal from a corner all season.

As the rain became more torrential, United compounded the home side's woes when Bruno Fernandes, who scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture earlier this season, squeezed another header into the net in the first-half stoppage time.

Seemingly dead and buried, Leeds turned the match on its head with two goals in less than a minute early in the second to lift the roof off Elland Road.

Spanish forward Rodrigo's cross managed to loop over United stopper David de Gea and into the net before Dan James squared for Leeds substitute Raphinha to level at the far post.

The visitors were the ones to get over the line, however, as Fred put his side in front 20 minutes from time before Elanga settled the contest with a late fourth.

The result moved fourth-placed United onto 46 points, four behind Chelsea in third, while Leeds stay 15th, five points above the relegation zone.

Substitutes Fred, Anthony Elanga star as Manchester United beat Leeds United 4-2 in a thriller

Antonio Conte praised his Tottenham Hotspur side's ability to turn defence into attack as they shrugged off a dreadful recent run to stun Premier League leaders Manchester City with a Harry Kane-inspired 3-2 win at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

After three successive league defeats, Tottenham's top-four ambitions were fading and Conte's honeymoon period since taking charge in November was well and truly over.

But the Italian, who has been under the spotlight all week after an interview in which he appeared to suggest Tottenham had been left weakened in the transfer window, masterminded the "perfect game" to stop the Man City juggernaut.

Tottenham only had 28% of possession against City, but defended diligently and somehow always looked a threat on the counter-attack with Kane, who scored twice including the 96th minute winner, linking superbly with Son Heung-min.

City had made it 2-2 in stoppage time through Riyad Mahrez's penalty, and it looked likely that the leaders would even snatch a last-gasp win, but Tottenham had other ideas as they revived their hopes of challenging for the top four.

"You know when you play Manchester City you will concede 70% of possession. But I say to my players that when you are defending, in your mind you must always be attacking. In your mind you want to win the ball and attack," Conte, who had not lost three league games in a row as manager for 12 years, said.

"To have this thought, in the final minutes, their goal could have killed you. Instead my players wanted to win.

"I think in every moment of the game my team wanted to attack them. Every time we had the ball I was thinking we could hurt them."

The surprise win lifted Tottenham back into seventh spot and with games in hand over the likes of West Ham United and Manchester United, they are back in the hunt for the top four.

But Conte knows that one big result will be pointless unless they can produce a much higher level of consistency.

"This win has to give us confidence, to trust the work we are doing together," the former Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan boss said. "But this is a process."

January signing Dejan Kulusevski, handed his first Premier League start, scored Tottenham's opening goal and impressed along with fellow new signing Rodrigo Bentancur.

But it was the old combo of Kane and Son Heung-min which really tormented City. Son set up Kane's first goal, the 36th time they have combined for a Premier League goal, equalling the record of Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard for Chelsea.

Turn defence into attack: Antonio Conte masterminds brilliant win against Manchester City

Liverpool had to dig deep for a 3-1 victory against lowly Norwich City with goals by Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz securing the points after the visitors had threatened to pull off a massive shock at Anfield on Saturday.

In the end it looked relatively comfortable for Juergen Klopp's side as they reduced Premier League leaders Manchester City's lead to six points - for a few hours at least.

But when Milot Rashica's shot deflected off of Joel Matip to give Norwich the lead just after the break, Liverpool`s hopes of putting some pressure on City looked in peril.

They were eventually rewarded for their intense pressure when Mane's overhead kick levelled it up in the 64th minute and less than three minutes later Salah made it 2-1 after latching onto a long clearance by keeper Alisson.

Diaz calmed Liverpool's nerves with a delightful finish in the 81st minute, finally flooring a courageous Norwich side.

Liverpool's fifth successive league win, and eighth in all competitions, put them on 57 points from 25 games, with City, who host Tottenham Hotspur later, on 63.

For all their effort, defeat put Norwich back at the bottom of the table after wins for Burnley and Watford.

Dean Smith`s side have 17 points, five behind 17th-placed Newcastle United who have played a game less.

"Norwich have a very different style but played a proper game, defended deep, had their counter attacks, made it really tricky for us," Klopp said.

"We had moments and then the game can look completely different, then a deflected ball can be pretty decisive, but these boys just don't give up."

What had looked on paper like a formality, was anything but as Norwich went toe-to-toe with Liverpool from the first whistle during an absorbing first half.
Liverpool almost took the lead when Angus Gunn reacted superbly to keep out Virgil van Dijk's header.

But Norwich used the counter-attack to great effect and should have gone in front when Brandon Williams played in Teemu Pukki, who fired a golden chance wide.

Liverpool responded with a wave of attacks with Salah's header being cleared off the line, but they could not crack Norwich`s rearguard.

The visiting Norwich fans could hardly believe their eyes in the 48th minute when Rashica cut in from the left and his right-footed shot clipped Matip before looping past Alisson.

It produced a furious response from the hosts who brought on Thiago and striker Divock Origi with midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain making way.

The game was turned on its head when Konstantinos Tsimikas headed across goal towards Mane who acrobatically volleyed in.

Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah score as Liverpool beat Norwich City 3-1 in Premier League

Liverpool have the chance to exert some pressure on Premier League title favourites Manchester City on Saturday but manager Juergen Klopp says he does not waste one minute thinking about Pep Guardiola's side.

Victory over relegation battlers Norwich on Saturday would allow Liverpool to close the gap on City to six points, although City are at home later against struggling Tottenham Hotspur.

"Out of all the problems I have, the smallest one is Man City. There is no minute when I think about them," Klopp told reporters at his news conference on Friday.

Of more concern to Klopp is the ankle injury sustained by Diogo Jota during the 2-0 Champions League win away at Inter Milan on Wednesday.

"He is not available this week and still needs further assessment," Klopp said.

"It's something with the ligaments around the ankle. Everything is possible. It could go quick or the other way. We have to wait but no chance for this weekend."

Liverpool have won their last four games in the league and will be expected to sweep past a Norwich side who have given themselves a chance of surviving with a recent resurgence before last weekend's defeat by Manchester City.

Klopp said he respects the Norfolk side's philosophy.

"They never stop believing they can stay in the league. I admire that. You can see it in how they play. If you let them play, they play," Klopp said.

"If you give them a chance to get in behind your last line, they will go. We have to be everywhere 100%. We need a really good set-up."

While deprived of Jota on Saturday, Klopp still boasts a formidable array of firepower with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all available and his biggest dilemma is who to leave on the bench.

He said the attitude of his players to not being in the starting lineup made his job easier.

"Be angry or disappointed with me, no problem. But show up. Make the decisions difficult and don't drop in training. But that's never happened. The group is incredible. If the players want to talk to me, it comes after the game," Klopp said.

He pointed to the response Roberto Firmino showed when coming off the bench to score the opener against Inter.

"Bobby could be in each eleven every single day because of his quality. It was one of the most important away goals we've scored. It calmed everything down and we got the momentum back," he said.

"If you knew him better, you'd be more positive about him. He`s an incredible person," Klopp said.

"He is not available this week and still needs further assessment," Klopp said. "It's something with the ligaments around the ankle. Everything is possible. It could go quick or the other way. We have to wait but no chance for this weekend." Liverpool have won their last four games in the league and will be expected to sweep past a Norwich side who have given themselves a chance of surviving with a recent resurgence before last weekend's defeat by Manchester City. Klopp said he respects the Norfolk side's philosophy. You can see it in how they play. If you let them play, they play," Klopp said. "If you give them a chance to get in behind your last line, they will go. We have to be everywhere 100%. We need a really good set-up." While deprived of Jota on Saturday, Klopp still boasts a formidable array of firepower with Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino all available and his biggest dilemma is who to leave on the bench. He said the attitude of his players to not being in the starting lineup made his job easier.

Manchester United are currently in turmoil as they desperately seek to get their Premier League campaign on track. United have not enjoyed the best of results under current interim boss Ralph Rangnick and fear missing out on a spot in the top four which will see them fail to make it to the Champions League next season.

While their on-field performances have come under the scanner, United have also been marred with several off-field issues of late. Recently, reports had surfaced stating there is a rift between club captain Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, and that the two players are involved in a power struggle at the club.

On Friday, Maguire took to Twitter to rubbish the rumours of a power struggle between him and Ronaldo. Maguire has been below-par in a number of matches this season and reportedly feels undermined by Ronaldo's influence in the dressing room. However, Maguire has denied the reports and said the claims are not true.

“I’ve seen a lot of reports about this club that aren’t true and this is another. Not going to start posting about everything that is written but I needed to make this one clear. We’re united and focused on Sunday. Enjoy your day everyone," Maguire wrote in a tweet.

After a string of poor results, Manchester United bounced back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Brighton in their last Premier League outing. Ronaldo, who had gone for six games without scoring, finally managed to bring an end to his goal drought with a stunning strike against Brighton.

Manchester United jumped back into the top four in the Premier League table with their win and will be hoping to continue their winning run against Leeds United on Sunday. While Maguire has denied reports of a power tussle with Ronaldo, recent reports have suggested that Ronaldo is in talks with Rangnick to take over the captaincy from Maguire.

It is believed that the additional pressure of captaincy being taken off will help Maguire in regaining his lost form in the league. While Maguire has produced several disappointing performances, Ronaldo has also seen his performances dip on several occasions so far this season.

Manchester United should be fighting for more than a top-four place in the Premier League, goalkeeper David de Gea said after his team beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

An unconvincing display was illuminated by a majestic Cristiano Ronaldo goal in the first half before Bruno Fernandes finished off 10-man Brighton with a stoppage-time second.

Victory, after successive draws, lifted United above West Ham into fourth place in the table with 43 points from 25 games, although sixth-placed Arsenal are four points behind with three games in hand.

"It is great always when you have the three points especially after we draw the last few games. We are all very happy," said De Gea, who made a stunning save to stop Brighton taking the lead in the first half.

"We should be fighting for more things than the top four, but that is the reality. There are many teams fighting for the same position and with the quality we have we should win a lot of points."

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick said the win had been very important, even if he was again frustrated that his side could not sustain a 90-minute performance.

"This was a very important win and even so after the first half today; today for a change we had a better second half than the first half and in the second half it paid off, we were more aggressive, we were primed to intercept and attack them in higher positions, so a highly important win for us," he said.

"It was different from the last three games because we were Dr Jekyll in the first half and this time in the second half."
