Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday asked manufacturers and industry leaders to ensure that world-class products are made in the country, adding people have so far supported 'vocal for local' campaign.

The outgoing year saw the spirit of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' echo in the society, he said in his last 'Mann Ki Baat' address of the year.

The latest radio address came at a time when thousands of farmers are protesting in Delhi against the Centre's farm laws.

Noting that the issue of single-use plastic could not be discussed much due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year, he asserted that getting the country rid of single-use plastic is one of the resolutions for the new year.

PM Modi also asked people to use Kashmiri saffron and said that his government is working to make it a "globally popular brand".

The GI tag has given it a unique identity, he said.

During his address, he also paid tributes to several revered Sikh personalities, including sons of Guru Gobind Singh, saying their sacrifices helped keep our culture safe.

"We pay tributes to the brave Chaar Sahibzaade, we remember Mata Gujri, we recall the greatness of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. We remain indebted to these greats for their sacrifices and their spirit of compassion," he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee whose policies he said were stopping state farmers from taking benefit of PM-KISAN scheme. The scheme is central government's flagship scheme. He was addressing a virtual event after releasing over Rs 18,000 crore to more than nine crore farmer families under 'Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi' (PM-KISAN)

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, a financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year is provided to small and marginal farmers, payable in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each. The fund is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

During his address Modi wondered why protests were not visible against West Bengal's decision of not implementing the scheme while there were agitations against the new farmer bills.

He said the entire country is benefiting from the PM-KISAN programme, but only one state, West Bengal, has not implemented this scheme.

As a result, over 70 lakh farmers are not able to take benefit of this scheme and this money is not reaching them, he said, adding that this is because of political reasons.

Modi said more than 23 lakh West Bengal farmers have applied online to take advantage of this scheme, but the state government has stopped the verification process for a long.

"Why there was no protest for ensuring PM-KISAN money," he said.

"If you listen to 15 years old speech of Mamta Ji, then you will know how much this ideology has ruined Bengal," he said.

Modi said everyone knows how the state has been ruined by the political ideology of those who ruled there for decades.

"The public is watching those doing selfish politics very closely. The parties that do not speak on the benefit of farmers in West Bengal are engaged in harassing the citizens of Delhi here in the name of the farmers and are ruining the economy of the country," he said.

PM Modi accuses Mamata Banerjee of blocking benefits for farmers

Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release Rs 18,000 crore in the accounts of over nine crore farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, which is celebrated as Sushashan Diwas.

He said the event will be held at every development block across the country and two crore farmers have already registered for it."On December 25, we celebrate Atal Bihari Vajpayee`s birth anniversary and we celebrate it as Sushashan Diwas (good governance day). After Modiji became PM, many steps have been taken to promote good governance, transparency and DBT is an important scheme. There was a time when a PM said we send Rs 100 from the Centre, only Rs 15 reaches villages. But we managed to send Rs 100 to them," Tomar told the media on Kisan Diwas.

Tomar said that the programme will start at 12 pm on December 25 and six farmers from six states, who are beneficiaries, will interact with the Prime Minister.

He said PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is an ambitious scheme of government and through this, an instalment of Rs 2000 gets transferred to the account of farmers thrice in a year and a farmer gets Rs 6000 in a year in his or her account.

"We have estimated that there were 14 crore farmers who are eligible for this scheme but so far 11.04 lakh farmers have registered for the scheme and Rs 96,000 crore has been sent to 10. 59 lakh farmers."There is a provision of Rs 75,000 crore under this scheme. When we will be celebrating Sushashan Diwas on December 25, Prime Minister will send Rs 18,000 crore to nine crore farmers by pressing a button. Within two hours, the money will be credited into farmers` accounts," he said.

Tomar said Modi government is committed to strengthening the agriculture sector.

"On Kisan Diwas, I want to congratulate farmers of the country. We know that the agriculture field is crucial for us and our economy. Modi government is committed to strengthening it. In the past six years, we have tried to do many reforms in the field of agriculture. Agriculture contribution should rise in GDP and youth should also get attracted towards agriculture," he said.

The minister said the government gets recommendations from time to time and tries to implement it and the farm laws have been based on suggestions of wise men.

He said there have been suggestions in the past that agriculture should take a leap towards the free market but could not be made into laws.

"Those protesting against the farm laws should look at those supporting them. Three lakh farmers have signed in support of farm laws," he said."We will fill all gaps in the agriculture sector, which will benefit farmers and ensure they get the right price. Even during COVID-19 pandemic, we saw that work related to farming and agriculture wasn`t affected," he added.

Representatives of the Confederation of NGOs of Rural India met Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and MoS Agriculture Kailash Choudhary on Kisan Diwas. They submitted 3,13,363 signatures taken across one lakh villages in support of the three farm laws enacted by the Centre recently.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that India was not just on-track to achieve its Paris Agreement targets, but it will also exceed them beyond expectation. He was speaking at the Climate Ambition Summit hosted by the United Nations and UK. The Summit marked fifth anniversary of the adoption of the Paris Agreement.

"We have reduced our emission intensity by 21 per cent over 2005 levels. Our solar capacity has grown from 2.63GW in 2014 to 36 GW in 2020. Our renewable energy capacity is the fourth largest in the world. It will reach 175GW before 2022. "

He added that India had an even more ambitious target now: 450GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, and the country has also succeeded in expanding its forest cover and safeguarding its biodiversity.

PM Modi said that as the world was setting its sight to achieve higher targets, it must not lose sight of the past.

"Also review our achievements against targets already set, only then can our voices be credible for future generations. India is not only on track to achieve its Paris Agreement targets, but to exceed them beyond expectations", said Modi.

PM Modi added that in 2047, India will celebrate 100 years as a modern independent nation.

"To all fellow residents of this planet, I make a solemn pledge today that Centennial India will not only meet its own targets but also exceed your expectations," said Modi.

Citing India`s contribution on a global level to fight climate change, Modi said on the world stage, India has pioneered two major initiatives -- the international solar alliance and coalition for disaster resilience infrastructure.
