According to the sources, the idea of the summit is to facilitate strategic communication channel at the highest level between India and China.

Earlier on Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping drew a parallel between the Indus and Chinese civilizations, both of which sprawled around rivers.

PM Modi and Xi visited the exhibition of Marquis Yi of Zeng Cultural Relics and Treasure at Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan.

"The two leaders had a one-on-one meeting during which they exchanged views on solidifying our bilateral relationship," Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.

During the talks, Modi offered to host the next informal summit with Xi in India next year. "I'll be happy if, in 2019, we can have such informal summit in India," Modi told Xi.

The Chinese president said he believes in future and they can meet in a format like this from time to time.

"I believe in the future, we will meet in a format like this, from time to time. I look forward to in-depth communication with your Excellency, and ensure we can build common understanding and help to take the China-India relationship to the next level," Xi said.

Billed by both sides as an informal meeting rather than a summit, President Xi and PM Modi held talks on Friday that lasted far longer than expected.

In April 2005, former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited India. The two sides established Strategic and Cooperative Partnership for Peace and Prosperity, while the signing of an agreement on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles.

During former Chinese President Hu Jintao's visit to India in November 2006, the two sides issued a Joint Declaration containing a ten-pronged strategy to intensify cooperation.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh visited China in January 2008. A joint document, titled "A Shared Vision for the 21st Century" was issued during the visit, the statement read.

During former Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's visit to India in December 2010, the two sides jointly set a bilateral trade target of USD 100 billion for 2015.

According to the statement, over 60 percent of the agreements between the two Asian giants have been signed during the last decade.

Till date, both the sides have established 36 dialogue mechanisms covering diverse sectors.

In March 2012, then Chinese President Hu Jintao visited India for the BRICS Summit.

"The two countries together constituted for about 50 per cent of the world economy and another 50 per cent was shared by rest of the world for 1600 years," the prime minister said.

Modi also said the people of India felt proud that President Xi has twice received him out of the capital.

"I'm perhaps the first Prime Minister of India, for whom, you have come out of the capital (Beijing) twice to receive me," Modi said, referring to his visit to Xi'an - the hometown of President Xi - in 2015.

Xi told Modi that their meeting opens a new chapter for bilateral ties.

He emphasised the two sides should look at the big picture of China-India relationship from a strategic angle and ensure their relationship continues to move forward in a positive direction.&nbsp

"The friendship between the two countries should continue to grow like the Yangtze and Ganges flowing forward forever," China's state-run CCTV quoted Xi as saying.

"We see a fast pace and bright future for China-India cooperation," Xi told Modi, who is in China on his fourth visit after he came to power in 2014.&nbsp

"China and India need to maintain a strong focus on national development, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation, work together for our respective national revitalisation to build the stability, development, prosperity and make positive contributions for global peace and development," Xi said, adding that in the past five years China-India relations have maintained a good momentum.

He said the two countries have established closer partnership and their exchanges and cooperation have made positive progress.&nbsp

"India and China have a combined population of 2.6 billion which provides enormous potential for development. Our two countries' influence in the world and region is steadily on the rise, looking ahead we see a fast pace and bright future for China-India cooperation," Xi told Modi.

"As we meet, the international security is at a crucial period of adjustment. China and India are both important engines for global growth and we are central pillars for promoting a multi-polar and globalised world. A good China-India relationship is an important and positive factor for maintaining peace and stability in the world," he added.

Xi's comments assume significance as it came at a time when the US and other major economies have taken a number of protectionist measures.

The Trump administration has recently announced hefty import tariffs on aluminium and steel besides about $50 billion worth of Chinese imports across 1,300 categories of products to counter China's trade practices.

India maintains that protectionism in all its forms should be rejected and favours an economic globalisation which is more open, inclusive and equitable.

Modi and Xi also visited an exhibition of Marquis Yi of Zeng Cultural Relics & Treasure at the museum.

The two leaders will resume their one-on-one interaction tomorrow with walks by the lakeside, boat ride and wind up their talks over lunch.

The two leaders began their informal meetings way back in 2014 when Xi was hosted by Modi at the Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi in Gujarat. They have met and interacted with each other in about a dozen international meetings since then.

"I am extremely saddened on hearing about the death of school students in a collision between a school van and a train in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar. This informal discussion is going to take place for the first time after 1954.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Sunday at the joint press conference with his Indian counterpart Sushma Swaraj in Beijing, "We will make sure that the informal summit (between PM Modi and Chinese President Jinping on April 27-28) will be a complete success and a milestone in China-India relations."

The informal summit is being seen as a move by the two countries to get their ties back on track following the Doklam stand-off last year, wherein troops from the two nations were engaged in an eyeball-to-eyeball standoff near Sikkim border between June to August.

The summit comes ahead of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao city in June.

The informal summit is being seen as a move by the two countries to get their ties back on track following the Doklam stand-off last year, wherein troops from the two nations were engaged in an eyeball-to-eyeball standoff near Sikkim border between June to August. The summit comes ahead of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Qingdao city in June. No agreements will be signed between India and China and no customary joint press conference will be held during Prime Minister Modi's two-day visit.

A Delhi court has dismissed a plea seeking prosecution of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others for allegedly defaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi by raising questions over his educational degree, saying only aggrieved persons can file defamation complaints.

Three persons -- Yogesh Bhardwaj, Rakshpal Singh and Ijharul-Haq -- had moved the court seeking an order asking the police to lodge an FIR against Kejriwal, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and AAP leaders Ashutosh, Raghav Chadha, Ashish Khetan and Jitender Singh Tomar, for allegedly defaming the Prime Minister.

"Only an aggrieved person, that is a person who has been defamed, can prosecute for his defamation.&nbsp;

"Admittedly, the complainants are not the aggrieved/victims of defamatory statements, if any, made by the respondents (Kejriwal, Sisodia, Ashutosh, Chadha, Khetan and Tomar). Therefore, they have no locus to file and prosecute the present case as far as the offence of defamation is concerned," Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said while summarily rejecting the complaint.&nbsp;

The court also noted that the complainants had not given any thought on what offence they were alleging against the respondents persons.

"The complainants state in the heading of the complaint, the commission of following other offences, that is 504, 467, 465, 468, 469 and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code but did not elaborate how these offences are made out in this case.

All these offences except 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC relates to the offence of forgery," it said.

The court also said that no offence for forgery could be attributed to the respondents as the complainants did not place on record the document which has been forged.

Regarding section 504, the court said there was nothing in the complaint to substantiate this charge.

"The complaint has no merits. Not only on merits that no case is made out, but also for want of locus to prosecute, I refuse to direct registration of FIR and refuse to take cognisance of the offence under section 499, 500, 504, 467, 465, 468, 469 and 34 of IPC against the respondents. The complaint is accordingly dismissed," the court said.&nbsp;

The complaint had alleged that the respondents had defamed the Prime Minister in May 2016 on the issue of his degrees and tarnished his image by showing his false degrees in press conferences and print and other social media.

However, the University of Delhi on May 11, 2016 made the Prime Minister's degrees public which had exposed the false propaganda of the accused persons, it had said.&nbsp;

The complainants also claimed to have approached the police which did not take any step against the accused persons.&nbsp;

We cannot be defeated because of power of party: PM Modi before Karnataka elections

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday apologised for the post related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and self-styled godman Asaram Bapu that went out from its official handle.

The cricket governing body also informed that they have launched an investigation into the matter.&nbsp

"ICC is dismayed at a non-cricket related tweet appearing on its Twitter feed earlier today. We would like to extend our sincere apologies to anyone who was offended during the short space of time it was up," ICC said in a tweet after removing the post, the screenshot of which was shared multiple times.

"We have launched an investigation into how this happened," the world body stated.

A tweet appeared this morning from ICC's official twitter handle related to Modi and Asaram Bapu, who was today convicted by a Jodhpur court for raping a teenager at his ashram in 2013.

Foreign ministers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan "supported" the Chinese OBOR&nbsp;in a statement, however, there was no mention of India's view.

The communique also supported Iran's nuclear deal.&nbsp;

The OBOR initiative is President Xi's major foreign policy programme&nbsp;which seeks to build a "silk route" through Asia linking Europe by train and road network&nbsp;in order to pave the way for trade and commerce with China.&nbsp;

However, India has consistently resisted attempts by China to sign-up to OBOR with Indian authorities arguing the road network infringes on its territorial sovereignty.

Several European countries including France, UK and Germany have also raised objections to Xi's grand plans to integrate markets, arguing for a "two-way" process which would benefit all stakeholders which China has consistently reiterated&nbsp;it does completely.&nbsp;

China has already started the project with Pakistan in the form of $57 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor(CPEC), also involved Nepal, Maldives and Myanmar in the project although the OBOR plan is yet to fully takeoff in these regions.

Last year after President Xi got the approval for another term to head the country, the OBOR plan was enshrined in the constitution as a key element of Xi's vision for the future.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman arrived in China today to attend a preparatory meeting related to upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

During her visit, Sitharaman is likely to meet a number of Chinese leaders. She will attend the SCO defence ministers' meeting tomorrow.

The annual summit of the SCO, in which India is the latest entrant along with Pakistan, will take place in the Chinese city of Qingdao in June.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to attend it.

Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, who announced his retirement and quit the BJP on April 21, made scathing remarks at PM Modi-led government. Speaking to media at his residence, Sinha said that the ruling government, in the past four years, has made the situation "worse than Emergency".

Sinha further added that people in the country feel insecure over actions taken by the Modi government, which, he said, has "destroyed the temple of democracy".

"The situation created by the Modi government is even worse than the Emergency proclaimed by Indira Gandhi," Sinha alleged.

According to Sinha, no community in the country feels secure due to the actions of the central government.

Sinha also talked about the washout of this year's Budget session and claimed that it was the Modi government which did not want it to function smoothly as it did not want to face the 'no-confidence motion' despite the Opposition's demand.

The former external affairs minister mentioned that that former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had not hesitated to table 'no-confidence motion' in the year 1998.&nbsp

Sinha alleged the government for not caring to maintain the sanctity of the Parliament. He described the central government as one that tries to control the Supreme Court, the Election Commission and the press.

"Leaders will speak and the cadres will remain silent as they have no guts to raise their voices," Sinha noted alleging that there is no inner democracy in the BJP.

Former BJP leader also questioned the use of agencies such as CBI, NIA, ED and Income Tax by the government for "harassing and gagging opposition leaders".

Sinha's post-retirement plans include a continued fight against farmers exploitation and distress. He said he will continue to work towards the cause of workers of the unorganised sector, youth, students and weaker section of the society by addressing meetings throughout the country.

At a meeting&nbsp;in Beijing, Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi told Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif that China will continue to firmly support Pakistan.&nbsp;

India taking lead on many issues: Iceland PM to WION

India is going to help these small island states and coastal states in capacity building through training programmes at the National Institute Of Oceanography in Goa, Ruchi Ghanashyam, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, told reporters during a briefing here.

The main issues discussed at today's session were strengthening democracy and the rule of law, the state of the international trading system, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and climate action, and security issues faced by the Commonwealth countries.

In his interventions, the prime minister highlighted a number of important issues, including the need for working together for achieving SDGs and cooperation on climate action, Ghanashyam said.

In that context, cricket being a unique game much played within the Commonwealth, with the help of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) we offered 30 boys and 30 girls the chance to come to India, train in our world-class facilities and help lay the network for the future generation of the Commonwealth," the MEA said.
