New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is confident the team will only get better as he beds in his ideas and hopes to deliver quickly. The Argentine was speaking to media on Friday as the west London club presented him at a press conference.

Chelsea appointed Pochettino at the end of May after finishing 12th in the Premier League following a chaotic campaign, during which Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard had spells in charge of the side.

The 51-year-old Pochettino, who has signed a two-year contract with the option of a further year, started work on July 1 and will hope to change Chelsea's fortunes after their worst finish since 1994.

"My target is to win, my aim is to win," the former Tottenham Hotspur and Paris St Germain coach told reporters at Stamford Bridge. "Football is about today, yesterday. You cannot talk too much long term. We cannot tell people we need six months to create because it seems not good. We need to create the belief from the beginning."

"I think we are going to have a squad that can deliver in the short term and give what we expect and from day one we need to think to win. Then if we don't win, maybe if little by little we need more time to develop our idea, maybe it is possible."

"(But) from the beginning we need to think of the first game of the Premier League, we need to beat Liverpool."

Despite the optimism, Pochettino is aware there is a lot of work to do before they face Juergen Klopp's side in their opening match on August&nbsp;13.

"For me, it is clear, it is most important to finish the squad, to have a very balanced squad. The plan was to reduce the number of players. That for me was the most important, to find the right profiles, the players we are going to add."

"One of the challenges is that people trust my judgement ... That is the biggest power you can have."

<h2>Growing list</h2>

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta on Thursday moved to Atletico Madrid, joining the growing list of players leaving Chelsea in the close season after the exits of Kalidou Koulibaly, N'Golo Kante and Edouard Mendy, who all joined Saudi Pro League clubs.

Kai Havertz, Mateo Kovacic and academy product Mason Mount have signed for Premier League rivals Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United respectively.

Pochettino is the third permanent Chelsea manager since the club's sale in 2022 to a consortium led by LA Dodgers part-owner Todd Boehly and backed by Clearlake Capital, a private equity firm.

The Argentine said he did not think long before accepting the offer.

"I trust in (the sporting directors) Paul (Winstanley), Laurence (Stewart) and the owners that they will provide the tools to be competitive," Pochettino added. "I think it was a nice conversation from the beginning, they were very honest with me. They showed the plan. The good and not so good things that need to happen before the first of July and after."

"I think they are clever people and football always is about being clever and learning from past experience. I feel good."

'I want to have a balanced squad, here to win': Chelsea's new boss Mauricio Pochettino

Pep Guardiola praised his Manchester City players for shrugging off their hangovers after clinching the Premier League title with a 1-1 draw at Brighton on Wednesday to stretch an unbeaten run to 25 matches. A point was also enough for the Seagulls to guarantee they will finish sixth in the table and secure a place in the Europa League next season.

Phil Foden fired the English champions in front, but Brighton were well worthy of the point given to them by Julio Enciso's stunning long-range strike.

"Only 48 hours before they drank all the alcohol in Manchester," said Guardiola. "Today they showed why they are the champions.&nbsp;

"We were humble and run a lot. That is why we are the champions for many years, these players showed something special."

Guardiola heaped praise on Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi pre-match, hailing the Italian as one of the most influential managers of the last 20 years. The City coach showed his respect by restoring a number of star names to his side that missed Sunday's 1-0 win over Chelsea to toast a fourth league title in five years.

Erling Haaland returned among six changes and could have had a seventh hat-trick of the season inside half an hour. The towering Norwegian headed over Foden's inviting cross on five minutes. Haaland then had a poor touch to blame for not beating Jason Steele when clean through on goal.

At the third time of asking he took no chances as Haaland unselfishly squared with just Steele to beat for Foden to convert his 15th goal of the season.

But after a slow start, Brighton soon began to live up to Guardiola's billing as the champions were rocked back on their heels.

"In every situation, even when the situation was difficult, we didn't lose our style," said De Zerbi.

Danny Welbeck's free-kick came crashing off the bar and Facundo Buonanotte should have done better with his finish after sauntering through the City defence.
Kaoru Mitoma also saw an equaliser ruled out for handball.

But there was no stopping Enciso's leveller when it did come as the Paraguayan picked up Levi Colwill's pass and smashed an effort into the top corner for his first goal at the Amex.

Brighton had the ball in the net for a third time in the first 45 minutes moments later only for Welbeck to be flagged offside from Mitoma's pass.

The second period was less filled with goalmouth action despite the electric pace of the game. Haaland thought he finally had his 53rd goal of the season when he headed home Cole Palmer's cross 15 minutes from time. But a VAR review caught out City's prolific number nine as he had pulled Colwill's shirt to create the space for a free header.

Tempers briefly flared on the touchline after that decision with Guardiola shown a yellow card by the referee.

There were also minor injury concerns for City ahead of the FA Cup and Champions League finals next month as Phil Foden, John Stones and Bernardo Silva were not moving freely as they were replaced in the second half.

"We have to be careful for the players to arrive to the finals as best as possible," added Guardiola.

But it was all smiles at the end as Guardiola and De Zerbi shared a warm embrace of mutual admiration after the full-time whistle.

PL: Brighton secure top-six finish after 1-1 draw against Manchester City, qualify for Europe for first time

Tottenham Hotspur have frequently spoken about the need to tighten up their leaky defence over the last few weeks but striker Harry Kane said it is time to put words into action after they coughed up early goals again on Sunday.

Liverpool were 3-0 up inside 15 minutes at Anfield and while Tottenham pegged the hosts back to 3-3, Diogo Jota's stoppage-time goal earned the Merseyside club a 4-3 victory. Spurs&nbsp;conceded five in the opening 21 minutes of a 6-1 rout at Newcastle United and fell behind after only seven minutes in Thursday's 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

Kane said their performance in the early stages of Sunday's game showed they had not learned their lesson. "It's not the first time it's happened this season. We need to start understanding big games better," he told Sky Sports. "We've shown we can come back into games and to do it here away at Anfield shows what we're capable of but to have the starts we have had are hard to put into words and are unacceptable.

"There's only so many words you can use, the bottom line is you need to go out there and show it isn't that case."

Interim coach Ryan Mason said the players had to be ready from the first whistle. "If you're not ready to start games with full intensity you're going to concede goals and to be 3-0 down after that time is hard," Mason told the BBC.

"The manner in which we concede the last goal makes it impossible to take. I need to speak to the players on that, we need to address it and do it quickly."

PL: Harry Kane says Spurs' slow starts 'unacceptable' after Tottenham's defeat vs Liverpool

Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League on Sunday as Erling Haaland shattered a 92-year goal landmark while Julian Alvarez scored a stunner to clinch a 2-1 win at Fulham. Norway striker Haaland converted a third-minute penalty at Craven Cottage to become the first top-flight player to score 50 goals in all competitions since 1931.

"Before Winston Churchill was Prime Minister? Wow. Sounds a long time ago. Congratulations to Erling. The best goal to help us achieve what we want is still there," City boss Pep Guardiola said.

Haaland also moved level with Alan Shearer and Andy Cole's single-season Premier League record total. Shearer scored 34 for Blackburn in 1995 and Cole hit the same tally for Newcastle in 1994.

Carlos Vinicius equalised for Fulham but Alvarez's first goal in six games, a brilliant long-range effort, lifted City one point clear of second-placed Arsenal.

"The game was so tight until the end. We knew after we beat Arsenal that winning these types of games is really important. The players behaved amazingly," added Guardiola. "The Alvarez goal was extraordinary. We have incredible strikers."

Treble-chasing City, on top for the first time in 10 weeks, have won their last eight league games and are unbeaten in their last 18 matches in all competitions.

Guardiola's red-hot team, who have a game in hand on Arsenal, need to win five of their last six games to be certain of a fifth title in six seasons.

With Haaland's goal spree showing no signs of slowing, few would bet against them taking advantage of Arsenal's collapse.

"It's important but on Tuesday Arsenal will play. Important is the West Ham game, it's a game in hand. After that we'll be top of the table and it will be more real," Guardiola said.

- History-making Haaland -

Guardiola reminded his players they were held to a surprise draw at Nottingham Forest in their next match after beating Arsenal in February. It was a warning that had the desired affect, even without Kevin De Bruyne, who was missing due to an injury.

City took just three minutes to move ahead in west London as Riyad Mahrez found Alvarez in the Fulham area and the Argentine forward was flattened by Tim Ream's clumsy challenge.

History in his sights, Haaland took the ball with a determined look and confidently drove his penalty low past Bernd Leno.

Fulham broke out to snatch an equaliser against the run of play in the 15th minute.

Harry Wilson's pass found Vinicius and the Brazilian took advantage of City's sloppy marking to drill a powerful finish past Ederson from 10 yards.

Alvarez has found consistent game-time hard to come by in his first season at City due to Haaland's excellence.

But Guardiola is a big fan of the diminutive World Cup winner and he showed exactly why he has the Spaniard's faith in the 36th minute.

Taking possession 25 yards from goal, Alvarez held off a Fulham challenge before shifting into position to unleash a sublime strike that gave Leno no chance as it whipped into the top corner.

Ilkay Gundogan's close-range effort was repelled moments later by Leno, who made another smart save to deny Haaland's drive early in the second half.

A long delay following a serious injury to Fulham's Andreas Pereira lost City some of their grip on the game.

They had a lucky escape when Ederson almost lost possession inside his area, sparking a scramble that ended with the keeper poking the ball to safety.

Fulham appealed in vain for a penalty when Kyle Walker tangled with Bobby Decordova-Reid, who fired narrowly wide soon after as City held on.

PL: Erling Haaland's record-breaking goal helps Manchester City beat Fulham 2-1, climb to number 1 spot

Tottenham fought back from two goals down to hold Manchester United to a 2-2 draw on Thursday as Newcastle closed in on Champions League football with a 4-1 thrashing of Everton. Spurs were smashed 6-1 by Newcastle on Sunday to bring Cristian Stellini's four-game reign as interim manager to an end.

Things threatened to go from bad to worse in caretaker Ryan Mason's first match in charge as United stormed into a 2-0 lead by half-time. Jadon Sancho smashed home the opener after just seven minutes before Marcus Rashford turned on the afterburners to race past Eric Dier and fire in his 29th goal of the season.

"I don't think we were that good across the 90 minutes," admitted United boss Erik ten Hag. "After half-time we had to score another goal."

United fans taunted the home support with chants of "Harry Kane, we'll see you in June" amid interest from the Red Devils in Spurs' all-time top goal scorer.

But Tottenham finally showed some fight to boost their chances of qualifying for Europe next season. Pedro Porro reduced the arrears with a thumping strike before Kane crossed for Son Heung-min to level 11 minutes from time.

"I thought in the second half we were outstanding and the character we showed after last Sunday and going two goals down," said Mason. "I hope the fans can see that we were a team today and we ran for each other. In the second half we could have scored a lot more."

Newcastle opened up an eight-point cushion on the chasing pack for a top-four finish and a place in the Champions League next season as Callum Wilson scored twice at Goodison Park.

Eddie Howe's men struggled to find their rhythm before the break, but led thanks to Wilson's predatory finish after Jordan Pickford parried Joelinton's drive.

- 'Earn the right' -

Newcastle then cut loose in the final 20 minutes as Joelinton headed in, Wilson found the top corner and then a sensational run from Alexander Isak teed up Jacob Murphy.

"Second half you saw us at our very best and we were very clinical in front of goal," said Howe. "Confidence was there and that was evident in the second half. We had to earn the right to get to that point."

Dwight McNeil's corner that crept in was scant consolation for Everton, who remain rooted in the relegation zone.

Only Southampton are keeping the Toffees off the foot of the table and they are now six points adrift of safety after a 1-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

Marcus Tavernier scored the only goal at St Mary's to take the Cherries up to 14th and seven points clear of the drop zone.

Southampton thought they had snatched a dramatic 89th-minute equaliser but Che Adams' effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review, pushing the Saints closer to the Championship next season.

"I don't think we were good enough," said Southampton boss Ruben Selles. "Until we conceded the goal we weren't in the game."

PL Round-Up: Spurs hold Manchester United to a 2-2 draw, Newcastle close in on UCL qualification

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he was undeterred by the club's poor record at Anfield, targeting a win against Liverpool on Sunday that would keep them on course to win the Premier League title.

Arteta's men lead Manchester City by eight points at the top of the table ahead of the weekend fixtures, with Pep Guardiola's team in action against bottom-of-the-table Southampton on Saturday.

The Gunners have not won a league game at Anfield since Arteta played in a 2-0 win in 2012.

Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have won the past six league meetings between the sides at home by a combined score of 22-4.

But Liverpool are languishing in eighth place in the table, 29 points behind the Gunners, and Arsenal have already ended a long wait to win away at Tottenham this season.

Gabriel Jesus' double in a 4-1 win over Leeds last week -- his first league start since November -- has given Arteta options up front.

Bukayo Saka is set to return after missing the match due to illness, meaning only two of Jesus and the in-form Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are likely to start.

"It's much better to have that problem because at the moment they are all looking really good," added Arteta.

"We have to enjoy it," Arteta said at his pre-match press conference. "We really need to embrace the moment and go for it. Sky Sports and The Athletic reported that the club and Lampard are in advanced talks with an eye to the former England international being installed in time to take charge of Saturday's trip to Wolves.

Chelsea have sacked manager Graham Potter, the London club said on Sunday after a string of poor results left the expensively-assembled team 11th in the Premier League. Potter had been signed by Chelsea's new ownership in September after they prised him away from Brighton &amp; Hove Albion but the Englishman lasted 31 games, winning only 12, before the owners pulled the trigger.

While Potter oversaw wins in the Champions League where they topped their group after beating AC Milan twice and knocked out Borussia Dortmund, their league form nosedived as they fell out of the top four and into the bottom half of the table.

His last game in charge was Chelsea's 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa on Saturday which led to boos and jeers from the fans at Stamford Bridge as the result left them 12 points off the top four and in danger of missing out on Europe next season.

"Graham has agreed to collaborate with the club to facilitate a smooth transition," Chelsea said in a statement. "In his time with the club, Graham has taken us to the quarter final of the Champions League, where we will face Real Madrid. Chelsea would like to thank Graham for all his efforts and contribution and wish him well for the future. Bruno Saltor will take charge of the team as interim head coach."

Saltor's first game in charge is on Tuesday at home to eighth-placed Liverpool, who sit four points above them.

"Along with our incredible fans, we will all be getting behind Bruno and the team as we focus on the rest of the season," co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said. "We have 10 Premier League games remaining and a Champions League quarter-final ahead. We will put every effort and commitment into every one of those games so that we can end the season on a high."

Potter is the 12th manager to be sacked in the Premier League this season with the announcement coming hours after relegation-threatened Leicester City parted ways with Brendan Rodgers by mutual agreement.

The departures of Rodgers and Potter set a new Premier League record for most dismissals in a season, beating the 10 that happened in four other seasons, most recently in 2017-18.

Potter was a surprise choice to replace Thomas Tuchel who was sacked by the club in September after a poor start to the season. He initially impressed as Chelsea went nine games unbeaten before a 4-1 hammering at Brighton on Oct. 30.

Since then, it has been a struggle for Potter who failed to get the best out of a squad that had been heavily reinforced over two transfer windows in which owners Boehly and Clearlake Capital splashed more than 600 million euros ($650.76 million) on new players.

Chelsea sack manager Graham Potter following latest slump against Villa, Bruno Saltor to be interim head coach

Arsenal surged eight points clear at the top of the Premier League as Bukayo Saka's brace inspired a 4-1 rout of Crystal Palace on Sunday. Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring in the first half at the Emirates Stadium to put the leaders on course for a sixth successive league victory. It was redemption for Martinelli, whose missed penalty condemned Arsenal to Europa League last 16 defeat in their shoot-out against Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.

Mikel Arteta's side needed just 45 minutes against struggling Palace to erase the bitter taste of that loss. Saka followed Martinelli's goal by doubling Arsenal's lead before half-time. Granit Xhaka netted the third after the interval and Jeff Schlupp's reply was no consolation as the influential Saka's second capped Arsenal's stylish display.

PL: Bukayo Saka scores a brace as Arsenal crush Crystal Palace 4-1 at home, move eight points clear at top

Arsenal staged a thrilling comeback to beat Bournemouth 3-2 and preserve their five-point cushion in the title race, after champions Manchester City turned up the heat earlier on Saturday by beating Newcastle United.

City's 2-0 win earlier in the day sliced Arsenal's advantage to two points, and when the leaders trailed 2-0 against relegation-threatened Bournemouth with an hour gone in north London it appeared their hold on top spot was weakening.

However, goals from Thomas Partey and substitutes Ben White and Reiss Nelson -- Nelson's arriving in the seventh minute of stoppage time -- sparked wild scenes of celebration.

On the flip side, Chelsea eased some of the pressure on manager Graham Potter as a second-half header from France defender Wesley Fofana earned them a nervy 1-0 home win against Leeds United -- their first victory since Jan. 15.

Whereas, fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur's top-four ambitions suffered a dent as they went down 1-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are gradually pulling clear of the relegation zone.

Arsenal stays on top after stunning win

Arsenal had not won a Premier League game in which they had trailed by at least two goals since 2012, so the omens looked bad for the Gunners as they were rocked by Bournemouth. The visitors needed only 9.1 seconds to take the lead when Philip Billing scored with a close-range finish after an audacious move straight from the kick-off.

It was the second-quickest goal in Premier League history behind Shane Long's 7.69 seconds effort for Southampton against Watford in 2019.

Marcos Senesi rose unmarked to head in a second for his side just before the hour mark, but that provoked a furious Arsenal response with Thomas Partey prodding a shot past Bournemouth keeper Neto within minutes. Eight minutes after that, White's volley crossed the line despite Neto's desperate dive. But Bournemouth appeared to be holding on for a point as the game went deep into stoppage time.

Pandemonium then broke out as the ball fell to Nelson from a corner and he sent a left-foot thunderbolt into the corner of the net to seal an unlikely victory which moved Arsenal to 63 points from 26 games, ahead of City on 58.

"Everybody is overwhelmed a bit. It was madness from the first minute of the game where we defended so poorly and then you have to climb a mountain," a still-buzzing Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta told reporters.

'TRICKY GAME'

There was no such drama at Manchester City with back-in-form Phil Foden scoring an early beauty before substitute Bernardo Silva wrapped up the points in the second half.

Foden, who had been sidelined earlier this season with a nagging foot injury, put City ahead in the 15th minute, weaving through four Newcastle defenders before angling a shot that glanced off defender Sven Botman and past keeper Nick Pope.

Newcastle, who have recorded just one win in their last eight league games, had some chances but Silva came off the bench in the 65th minute to score with a sharp finish from an Erling Haaland flick. The goal was City's 1,000th in the Premier League at home.

"We won the game, we didn't suffer much at the end -- an incredible result for us because it was a tricky game," City manager Pep Guardiola said.

Manchester United's level of performance has dropped since the team lifted the League Cup, defender Luke Shaw said after they were thrashed 7-0 by arch-rivals Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday in their worst loss in 92 years.

Manchester United travelled to Anfield on an 11-match unbeaten streak but suffered the club's worst defeat since losing 7-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1931. The defeat came a week after United claimed their first trophy since 2017 by winning the League Cup, having beaten Newcastle United in the final.

"It was completely unacceptable," Shaw told MUTV. "Our standards have clearly dropped since we won that trophy, and in the last couple of games we haven't been our normal selves."

United conceded six of the seven goals in the second half as Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah all scored twice for Liverpool.

"We need to find the good things we were doing before and bring them back because this hurts a lot, and it's really unacceptable what we did in that second half," Shaw added. "We showed no personality and no mentality."

Former United captain and Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane said the players got carried away by their League Cup success.

"I see the players come here today in the second half, having a laugh and a joke. They're 1-0 down at Anfield and they're having a laugh and a joke with the Anfield staff, goalkeeping coach. I don't like to see all that rubbish. I think that circus can creep back in, and the manager and senior players have to keep an eye on that."

Former United captain and Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville described the defeat as a "shambles."

"They've not understood the dangers of this fixture. The Manchester United players have been eaten alive out there," Neville added.

PL: Manchester United's performance dropped since winning League Cup, says Luke Shaw

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is set to make his return soon after recovering from knee surgery but the Brazilian will have to fight for his place, manager Mikel Arteta said on Friday. Jesus, who had five goals and five assists in the league following his 45 million pounds ($54.07 million) move, has been sidelined since he sustained a knee injury at the World Cup with Brazil, going under the knife in early December.

Eddie Nketiah has led Arsenal's attack in Jesus' absence while Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka have taken on the scoring burden to lead the club five points clear in the table.

But it was Jesus' all-round game that helped propel Arsenal to the top of the league in the first half of the season and Arteta said his return to training was a huge boost as the title race with his former club Manchester City heats up.

"He's doing certain things with the team and certain things outside the team. He's not very close, but he's not very far. The doctors feel confident with how he's evolving," Arteta told reporters ahead of Saturday's home game against Bournemouth.

"It's been pretty straightforward. At the beginning we were pretty concerned and thankfully it wasn't that bad. Gabi has been through that before, his mentality is incredible and the team has done a really good job with him. It was a huge blow for the team, we knew the importance of Gabi, the way he transformed the spirit and the level of performances we could reach."

When asked if Jesus would walk straight back into the starting line-up when he was fully fit, Arteta said, "Probably that wouldn't be fair on him.

"When he was in the team he was phenomenal. But when he's back, like everybody else, he'll need to earn his place in the team."

Arteta also said Arsenal were assessing Nketiah after he played only 18 minutes in their 4-0 home win over Everton in midweek while there were no concerns with midfielder Jorginho, who was taken off at halftime as he was coming back from illness.

Bournemouth are in a relegation battle but, despite sitting 19th in the league, Arteta said he was impressed with how aggressive they were in recent games.

"I watched the games against Brighton, Wolves, Newcastle and Manchester City and I am really impressed," he said. "They didn't concede much and could have had different results in two of those four games."

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus is set to make his return soon after recovering from knee surgery but the Brazilian will have to fight for his place, manager Mikel Arteta said on Friday.

The Premier League said on Friday it is funding defibrillators at grassroots clubs and facilities to save lives if someone suffers a cardiac arrest in the wake of Christian Eriksen`s collapse at the European Championship.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder collapsed in Denmark`s group opener against Finland. His life was saved when CPR was administered to him on the pitch and his heart was re-started with a defibrillator before he was taken to hospital.

The league said "more than 2,000 sites will benefit" with the first 1,000 units of Automated External Defibrillators (AED) to be delivered before the 2021-22 season begins.

"The traumatic incident we all witnessed when Christian Eriksen collapsed during Euro 2020 brings into sharp focus the need for defibrillators to be more widely available across the football community," Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said.

"The welfare of participants and all those involved in football is a priority and this fund will support many people using football facilities not just with the provision of devices but also the training required to use the equipment.

"Sadly, a sudden cardiac incident could happen anytime, anywhere and we hope by enabling more facilities to have a device, it will make the difference in saving someone`s life."

Eriksen was discharged from hospital after an operation to implant a heart starter device.

Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Fabrice Muamba, who collapsed on the pitch in an FA Cup match in 2012 and was technically "dead" for 78 minutes, welcomed the initiative.

"I know from personal experience the importance of having access to this type of medical equipment and how vital it is for someone`s survival after suffering from sudden cardiac arrest," he said.

"Educating people how to use defibrillators is crucial."

Werner finally got a VAR call to go his way to double Chelsea's lead 24 minutes from time.

Wesley Fofana's foul on Werner was initially given as a free-kick outside the box, but on review referee Mike Dean was told to point to the penalty spot.

Jorginho coolly sent Schmeichel the wrong way and for 10 minutes, Chelsea looked to be cruising.

However, Leicester set up a nervy finale when Wilfred Ndidi robbed Mateo Kovacic and teed up Iheanacho to slot home his 19th goal of the season.

Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for Villa but Dominic Calvert-Lewin soon headed an equaliser. Everton have won one of their last 10 home league games and that looks like it could cost them a European place.

Tottenham's Ryan Mason set to kick off his career as youngest manager in Premier League

Jurgen Klopp admitted Liverpool's stunning collapse is one of the worst spells of his managerial career after Mario Lemina condemned the troubled champions to a shock 1-0 defeat against lowly Fulham on Sunday.

Klopp's side are four points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea, who can extend that lead to seven if they beat Everton on Monday.

That would leave Liverpool with a tough task to qualify for next season's Champions League via a top four finish.

They could still make it by winning the Champions League, but glory in Europe's elite club competition is hard to envisage given Liverpool's steep decline.

In a sign of how far they have fallen, even third-bottom Fulham easily out-played Liverpool to secure three points at Anfield for the first time in nine years.

Without a home victory since before Christmas, Liverpool are a pale shadow of the team that romped to their first English title for 30 years last season.

They have been destabilised by horrific injury problems in defence, but it was still jarring to see the toothless Reds surrender so tamely once again. &nbsp;

Asked if it was among his worst periods, Klopp said: "I would wish to say no but yes it is. That's not a problem. I don't always have to have the best times.

"This team is an extreme team. We were extremely successful and now we have an extreme situation as well but we will fight through."

Worryingly for Liverpool fans, Klopp conceded he does not have the answers to arrest the slide.

"We never had a momentum in the season. You can see it's still in the boys. They still have it all but at the moment can't show it. It would be a masterpiece to find out how we change that overnight," he said.

"My boys wanted it. It's easy to say Fulham have won it so wanted it more. I don't think that's the problem.

"I don't have to stand here and say we're fighting for this or that."

Klopp insists his stars will remain loyal even if Liverpool miss out on a Champions League place.

But on the evidence of their latest embarrassment, the Reds boss might need to make significant changes to catch champions-elect&nbsp;Manchester&nbsp;City&nbsp;next term.

With one eye on defending their 2-0 lead in Wednesday's Champions League last 16 second leg against Leipzig, Klopp made seven changes and fielded a youthful defence featuring Neco Williams, Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool showed a lack of organisation and cohesion at the back, with Josh Maja sneaking behind the two inexperienced central defenders to scoop his volley over the bar.

Fulham were causing Liverpool's makeshift defence all manner of problems and Maja was narrowly off-target from Ademola Lookman's pass.

Diogo Jota made his first start since December after injury and Xherdan Shaqiri was up front as they replaced Sadio Mane and the injured Roberto Firmino.

Shaqiri curled a free-kick just over, but Liverpool were impotent in attack and Fulham's impressive display was rewarded in first half stoppage-time.

When Andrew Robertson could only head clear to the edge of the area, Mohamed Salah was easily brushed off the ball by Lemina, who drilled a fine finish into the far corner of Alisson Becker's goal.

It was a sweet moment for the Gabon international after his accidental handball saw Maja's equaliser against Tottenham harshly ruled out in midweek.

Salah's half-hearted effort was hardly the response Klopp was looking for after the Egyptian showed his frustration when he was substituted against Chelsea on Thursday.

Jota's stinging volley from Neco Williams' cross forced a fine Alphonse Areola save early in the second half.

Just after that chance, a plane flew over Anfield bearing the slogan "Unity is strength. Let's go Reds. YNWA".

Although Mane came off the bench to loop a header onto the woodwork and Shaqiri went close with a curler, Liverpool rarely looked like responding to that call to arms.

Liverpool crash again as Fulham plunder Anfield win

Chelsea&nbsp;moved into the Premier League's top four as Mason Mount's superb first-half goal earned them a 1-0 win at champions Liverpool who suffered a club-record fifth straight home league defeat on Thursday.

Mount cut in to curl a low shot past Liverpool keeper Alisson in the 42nd minute, after Timo Werner had earlier had a goal disallowed, to give&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;a deserved halftime lead.

Thomas Tuchel's side then showed great defensive discipline to stand firm in the second period as Liverpool improved.

Liverpool, who substituted a disgruntled Mohamed Salah in the second half, struggled to carve out clear chances, though, and managed only one effort on target.

Chelsea, unbeaten since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January, have 47 points from 27 games, one more than Everton who had briefly gone fourth by beating West Bromwich Albion.

Liverpool's title defence is in tatters and Juergen Klopp's side have slumped to seventh spot with 43 points from 27 games. Remarkably, their five successive home league defeats have come after they had lost none of the previous 68 games at Anfield.

"It's very tight around the top four and these big games we need to win," Mount said. "Tonight maybe we could have had a couple more goals. We had to be brave and win the ball back high and that's where the goal came from."

Tuchel is now unbeaten in 10 games in the Stamford Bridge hot seat and Thursday's victory was another tactical masterclass by the German who last week crafted an eye-catching 1-0 win at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

RELENTLESS PRESSING

His side's relentless pressing was too much for Liverpool in the first half, while they cleverly mixed up the angle of their attack to keep Klopp's side firmly on the back foot.

Werner should have put&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;ahead in the 12th minute but failed to connect with a volley and the German striker then latched on to a long pass forward and nicked it past the out-rushing Alissson before rolling the ball home.

Liverpool were spared by an agonisingly tight VAR offside decision on that occasion but did not learn their lesson.

Just before halftime N'Golo Kante's long pass found Mount on the left. The young midfielder cut in past Trent Alexander-Arnold and arrowed a right-footed shot inside the far post.

Liverpool did show more of their trademark intensity after the break but&nbsp;Chelsea&nbsp;were unruffled, although there was one anxious moment just after the restart when Roberto Firmino's cross struck the hand of Kante but they survived a VAR check.

Chelsea&nbsp;looked far sharper Hakim Ziyech had an effort cleared off the line while Werner also had the chance to make the points safe but was denied by Alisson.

Liverpool's only attempt on target came late on as Georginio Wijnaldum shot straight at Edouard Mendy while defender Ozan Kabak also had a half chance.

"It was a well-deserved win, a big performance and a big result," Tuchel said.

Mount goal earns Chelsea victory at toothless Liverpool

Manchester City's relentless march towards reclaiming the Premier League title continued with a 3-0 romp over Tottenham Hotspur after champions Liverpool capitulated at Leicester City to suffer a third consecutive defeat on Saturday.

In-form Ilkay Gundogan scored twice for City who have now won 11 Premier League games in a row.

The German took his tally to 11 league goals this season as he struck twice in the second half after Rodri's first-half penalty, following a foul on Gundogan by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, had given Pep Guardiola's side the lead.

Victory put City on 53 points, seven clear of second-placed Leicester, and with a game in hand.

The only slight worry for Guardiola, whose side have won 16 times in a row in all competitions, was that Gundogan was substituted in the 69th because of a tight groin.

Although with striker Sergio Aguero among the City substitutes after an 11-game absence due to COVID-19 it left Guardiola a happy man.

"It was well deserved, they hit the post and that can turn the game but the way we wanted to play was there," Guardiola, said. "Tottenham have special quality, we have played well against them in the past and lost 2-0."

That 2-0 defeat at Tottenham in November put Jose Mourinho's side top of the league but the north London club's form has disappeared and they were outplayed on Saturday despite Harry Kane hitting the post with a free kick when it was 0-0.

Tottenham are ninth after losing four of their last five league games and Mourinho was left grasping at straws.

"We were punished by what I call the modern penalty," Mourinho said. "The penalty you cannot deny there was a contact but now in modern football every contact is a penalty."

Fourth-placed Liverpool's defeat left them 13 points behind City having played a game more and they are now in danger of dropping out of the top four.

Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool the lead at Leicester in the 68th minute but Juergen Klopp's side then imploded again, conceding three times in seven minutes, having conceded four times in the second half against City last week.

After VAR had overturned a penalty awarded to Leicester, James Maddison equalised from the subsequent free kick then keeper Alisson, who made two glaring errors in Liverpool's loss to City last weekend, cost his side again.

The Brazilian raced out of his goal to meet a long ball over the top but collided with debutant Ozan Kabak and Jamie Vardy walked the ball into an open goal.

Harvey Barnes made sure of the win four minutes later as Liverpool lost three league games in a row for the first time since 2014 when Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers was in charge.

"I don't think we can close that gap this year, to be honest," Klopp said of the gap to City.

"The situation is not easy, that's clear, but it's our situation and how it always is with your own situation, you have to sort it yourself and that's what we will do."

Burnley's 3-0 win at Crystal Palace moved them 11 points above the relegation places.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson put the Clarets in front and Jay Rodriguez headed in his first Premier League goal of the season to double their lead. Matt Lowton added a third after the break.

Aston Villa moved up to eighth place after a 0-0 draw at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Premier League: Relentless Man City march on, Liverpool lose again

Brighton &amp; Hove Albion drew 0-0 with Fulham in the Premier League on Wednesday, in a frustrating game for the south coast side, who missed the chance to pull clear of the London club in the relegation zone.

The draw left Brighton 17th in the table on 18 points, five clear of Fulham, who have a game in hand, in 18th place.

Both sides had chances in the first half. Fulham right-back Ola Aina blasted a shot just over the bar from outside the box in the fifth minute, and Brighton's Leandro Trossard went close twice in quick succession at the other end.

Brighton repeatedly sliced through Fulham's midfield but were unable to get a man on the end of any of their resulting crosses.

Fulham's Ivan Cavaleiro dashed forward on the break after a misfired pass by Brighton's Adam Webster, only to shoot wide of the post, and the Seagulls' Pascal Gross fired a free-kick just wide of the post as the half drew to a close.

After the break, Fulham's defenders struggled to pass the ball out from the back, but Brighton's front line were unable to convert any of the numerous chances they created.

Fulham had keeper Alphonse Areola to thank for countless saves that kept them in the game, while captain Lewis Dunk was the hero for Brighton, clearing a Ruben Loftus-Cheek shot off his goal-line in stoppage time to hold onto a point.

"It's obviously frustrating that we haven't won at our ground," Dunk told BT Sport.

"We've got to go back and look at it and make sure we start putting the ball in the back of the net," he added.

Brighton manager Graham Potter was similarly frustrated with the result.

"We're creating the chances - that's not easy in this league. But we have to keep believing we can score. Our performances have been good, but the challenge is to turn those chances into points," he said.

Brighton frustrated in goalless draw with Fulham

The&nbsp;Premier&nbsp;League&nbsp;said Thursday that it had agreed to permit permanent concussion substitutes from next month after football's lawmakers authorised extensive trials using them.

However in a meeting on Thursday club bosses in England's top flight voted for a third time against increasing the number of allowed substitutes from three to five despite the International Football Association Board (IFAB) also extending that rule on Wednesday.

IFAB said the trials using concussion substitutes could begin in January, and the&nbsp;Premier&nbsp;League&nbsp;bosses decided they would be looking at a maximum of two per side per match.&nbsp;

"With player welfare the&nbsp;Premier&nbsp;League's priority, clubs agreed in principle to introduce additional permanent concussion substitutions following approval of the trial by the International Football Association Board yesterday," the&nbsp;Premier&nbsp;League&nbsp;said.

"The&nbsp;Premier&nbsp;League&nbsp;will look to implement protocols which will allow a maximum of two concussion substitutes to be used per team, with the opposition side able to use the equivalent number.

"The additional concussion substitutions may be made regardless of the number of substitutions a team has made already."

Concussion has become an increasingly hot issue in the sport -- rugby union has used head injury replacements for a while -- with increasing concern over the amount of former footballers who develop dementia later in life.

Although&nbsp;Premier&nbsp;League&nbsp;clubs once again repudiated moves to allow five substitutes they did agree to allow nine players on the bench as opposed to the present seven.

The measure will come into effect from this weekend's round of games beginning on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp had been especially vociferous in his wanting five substitutes due to a lengthening injury list and concerns over the hectic fixture schedule.

Others such as Sheffield United's Chris Wilder argued against it believing that it would only favour those teams with big squads.

Premier League agrees to concussion substitutes

Chelsea will not lack incentives to knock Tottenham Hotspur off their Premier League perch when the capital`s most bitter derby kicks off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The west Londoners have lorded it over Spurs for the past two decades, bagging sackfuls of silverware while Tottenham yearn for a return to their glory days.

Under Mauricio Pochettino Spurs twice finished above Chelsea in the standings, but missed out on the title to the Blues by seven points after an intense race in 2017.

The season before Chelsea finished 10th but even then had the last laugh in a bad-tempered draw at Stamford Bridge that killed the title dream of Pochettino`s team.

Tottenham are again hinting at a title charge and will go into the weekend top of the league after at least nine rounds for the first time since 1985.

That the architect of their resurgence is Jose Mourinho -- the manager once idolised by the Stamford Bridge faithful for delivering three Premier League titles in two stints -- makes it all the harder to swallow for Chelsea.

Apart from a remarkable 6-1 win at Manchester United, Spurs` relatively comfortable run of fixtures led many to suggest they were in a false position. Last week`s 2-0 win over Manchester City changed all that. It was a Mourinho masterclass.

City had more shots and more possession but hosts Tottenham were clinical and the fact tht they left Gareth Bale on the bench spoke volumes for the depth they have in their squad.

"Mourinho wants to win a trophy here. He knows we are capable of winning. We have all that we need to win. He`s the right man to bring us to the trophy," forward Lucas Moura said.

BARREN GROUND

Stamford Bridge has been a barren hunting ground for Tottenham though, with one away league win in 30 years.

Victory for Chelsea would see them leapfrog Spurs, who may have already have been replaced as leaders by champions Liverpool who visit Brighton &amp; Hove Albion on Saturday.

Tottenham have 20 points, the same as Liverpool, with Chelsea in third place on 18 after three successive wins.

Frank Lampard`s side warmed up for the derby with a 2-1 victory at Stade Rennais on Tuesday to seal a spot in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

Tottenham are in action 48 hours later on Thursday at home to Bulgarian side Ludogorets in the Europa League which, while being a disadvantage, was dismissed by Lampard.

"He (Mourinho) has got a strong squad and he can make rotations. But if you`re not going to get up ready to attack a London derby, then you shouldn`t be in this game," the Chelsea boss said.

Liverpool will be eager to bounce back from Wednesday`s stumble in the Champions League, when they lost 2-0 at home to Atalanta, as they face Brighton on Saturday lunchtime.

Manchester City host Burnley in the odd position of being as far away from top spot as they are from the relegation places.

City`s defeat at Spurs left them languishing in 13th place with 12 points and a minus one goal difference. Their fightback needs to begin soon and Burnley may be the fall guys.

Burnley`s home win over Crystal Palace on Monday means only two clubs, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United, are still without a victory and they meet at The Hawthorns on Saturday.

Chelsea will not lack incentives to knock Tottenham Hotspur off their Premier League perch when the capital`s most bitter derby kicks off at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea relish chance to knock Spurs off their perch

Mikel Arteta expects Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to finally commit his future to Arsenal in the next few days after the Gabon forward's superb strike capped Saturday's 3-0 win at Fulham.

Arteta's side kicked off the new Premier League season with the kind of confident display that has become their hallmark since Arteta took charge.

Arsenal's free-flowing attack was too incisive for promoted Fulham and Alexandre Lacazette gave the visitors an early lead at Craven Cottage.&nbsp;

Brazilian defender Gabriel Magalhaes scored Arsenal's second after the break in his first appearance since his close-season move from Lille.

Aubameyang added the final flourish with a typically eye-catching strike that emphasised why Arsenal are so desperate for the club captain to sign an extension to the contract which expires at the end of the season.

Gunners boss Arteta had good news for fans concerned Aubameyang might leave as he revealed their team's talisman is set to sign the contract offer.&nbsp;

"I'm really positive we are going to get it done very soon and hopefully in the next few days you will get some news," Arteta told BT Sport.

With former Chelsea winger Willian providing a pair of assists on his debut, it was the ideal way for Arsenal to start a season that appears full of promise after last season's FA Cup triumph.

Although their eighth-placed finish in the Premier League ranked as Arsenal's lowest final position since 1995, Arteta had little to do with that after taking charge in December following the dismal reign of Unai Emery.

The former Manchester City assistant coach has been a much-needed breath of fresh air for Arsenal and pushing for a place in the top four should not be beyond his revitalised team this term.

"I wanted to see my team determined to come to this difficult ground against a really good team that has been promoted. We had a lot of energy and did the things we trained on in this period," Arteta said.

"Gabriel didn't play for six months before today. Mohamed Elneny was brilliant. He has been excellent in training. All the boys tried really hard."

While the continued absence of fans due to the coronavirus and shorter than usual break has taken a little anticipation away from the new campaign, Arsenal were keener than most to get back in action after beating Chelsea in the FA Cup final.

The Gunners had underlined their rapid improvement by defeating Premier League champions Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield last month and Fulham were no match for them.

The only dark cloud for Arteta was a pre-match spat between Dani Ceballos and Eddie Nketiah.

The pair had to be separated by Arsenal team-mates after Nketiah reacted to an aggressive challenge from Ceballos while a group of players were exchanging passes in the warm-up.

Arteta's worries were eased when Lacazette netted in the ninth minute.

Granit Xhaka's strike forced a miscued clearance from Tim Ream and Willian pounced with a close-range shot that Fulham keeper Marek Rodak could only push out to Lacazette, who slotted home from virtually on the goalline.

Willian was denied a debut goal when his low free-kick cannoned off the base of the post.

Gabriel was enjoying a composed debut and the 22-year-old showed he can be a goal threat as well when he doubled Arsenal's lead in the 49th minute.

Willian swung over the corner and Gabriel showed his desire as he rose above Michael Hector for an attempted header that hit his shoulder as it flashed into the net.

Fulham's defence was crumbling like the recently demolished Craven Cottage stand and Aubameyang finished them off in the 57th minute with a carbon copy of his Community Shield goal against Liverpool.

Just as at Wembley, Willian's superb cross-field pass picked out Aubameyang and he was allowed to advance unchecked into the area before bending a fine finish into the far corner.

Rampant Arsenal crush Fulham as Premier League returns

Mohamed Salah's hat-trick saved Liverpool from an opening day stumble as the defending Premier League champions edged Leeds 4-3 on Saturday, while Arsenal had a much more comfortable start against newly-promoted opposition with a 3-0 win at Fulham.

Just 48 days after last season's delayed conclusion, the Premier League returned with a bang as Liverpool and Leeds, on their return to the top-flight after a 16-year absence, served up a feast of goals to open the 2020-21 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp's side cruised to a first league title in 30 years last season, but Liverpool looked more like the wide open side of the German's early days in charge at Anfield as three times Leeds came from behind.

Salah won a fourth-minute penalty when his shot hit Leeds debutant Robin Koch on his outstretched arm and he dispatched the spot-kick himself.

Leeds fashioned a stunning equaliser in the 12th minute when on-loan Manchester City midfielder Jack Harrison cut past Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez before drilling a superb low finish into the bottom corner.

Virgil van Dijk restored Liverpool's lead eight minutes later with a thumping header from Andy Robertson's corner.

Leeds equalised again in the 30th minute when Van Dijk made a hash of a flicked attempt to clear and Patrick Bamford pounced to guide his shot past Alisson Becker.

A remarkable game produced more drama as Salah struck again three minutes later with a thunderous drive into the roof of the net.

Leeds equalised for a third time when Mateusz Klich made a well-timed run to meet Helder Costa's pass with a composed finish in the 66th minute.

But Liverpool won it in the 88th minute when Leeds' record signing Rodrigo tripped Fabinho and Salah slotted in the penalty, leaving Klopp to sum up the feelings of both teams when he mouthed "wow" at the final whistle.

"Leeds are special. I said it before the game and in the game everybody saw it obviously," said Klopp admiringly of Bielsa's men.

"The way they play, the way they defend, the way they go into challenges was really, really good – and for 95 minutes, by the way!

"I’m completely fine with the game. Offensively, it was good; and defensively, we can improve and we will improve."

- Confident Arsenal -
At Craven Cottage, Arsenal hit the ground running with the kind of confident display that has become their hallmark since Mikel Arteta took charge.

Willian starred on his Gunners debut with three assists for Alexandre Lacazette, fellow new-signing Gabriel Magalhaes and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

After winning the FA Cup in his debut campaign, Arteta's next task is to return Arsenal to the Champions League next season and the Spaniard promised more good news with captain Aubameyang getting ever closer to agreeing a new contract.

"I'm really positive we are going to get it done very soon and hopefully in the next few days you will get some news," Arteta told BT Sport.

Two of Newcastle's new signings ensured they got off to a flying start after an unsettling few months off the field with a 2-0 win at West Ham.

Despite a proposed Saudi-backed takeover of the club not going through, the Magpies do appear to have recruited well in the transfer market.

England international Callum Wilson got his first goal for the club early in the second half before Jeff Hendrick also marked his debut with a stunning strike to secure all three points for Steve Bruce's men.

Wilfried Zaha's goal was enough to earn Crystal Palace a 1-0 win over Southampton at Selhurst Park.

Salah hat-trick saves Liverpool, Arsenal cruise as Premier League returns

Manchester United will refund supporters if they have to play their remaining home games of the season behind closed doors or if they are scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The deadline for season ticket renewals for next season has also been suspended, with no indication as to when the current campaign can re-start.

English football has been suspended until April 30, but a meeting of Premier League clubs next week is expected to push that date further back.

United would be one of the clubs worst affected should the 2019/20 season fail to be completed as they sit fifth in the Premier League, outside the Champions League places, and are still involved in the latter stages of the Europa League and FA Cup.

However, Manchester City's two-season ban from European competition could allow their city rivals to qualify for the Champions League if it is upheld for next season.&nbsp;

"The club&nbsp;fully&nbsp;supports the collective intent to complete the Premier League, FA Cup and the UEFA club competitions," United said in a statement on Friday.

"However, if&nbsp;it&nbsp;were&nbsp;decided that games cannot be played, or needed&nbsp;to be played behind closed doors, Manchester United&nbsp;confirms it&nbsp;will offer season ticket holders either a pro-rata rebate against their season tickets for next year, or a pro-rata cash refund based on the&nbsp;number of&nbsp;games still to be played.

"The&nbsp;season ticket&nbsp;renewal deadline, initially 1 May, has been suspended."

United have also committed to paying 3,000 casual staff for their remaining five home Premier League games even if they are cancelled or played behind closed doors.

Earlier this month, the Red Devils paid travelling fans £350 ($429) towards travel and accommodation costs when their Europa League last-16, first-leg match against LASK in Austria was forced behind closed doors at short notice.

"By pushing the season ticket&nbsp;renewal&nbsp;deadline back&nbsp;and&nbsp;confirming our policy&nbsp;if games were to be cancelled or played behind&nbsp;closed doors,&nbsp;we want to&nbsp;ease&nbsp;any&nbsp;concerns&nbsp;our&nbsp;loyal&nbsp;fans may have&nbsp;in the current circumstances," said Richard Arnold,&nbsp;United's Group&nbsp;Managing Director.

"They give Manchester United their support year after year, and at this time, we are committed to supporting them. &nbsp; Our message to them is clear -- we are all in this together."

Man Utd to offer refunds, season ticket delay to fans amid COVID-19 pandemic

It's not often that Liverpool legends visit the budding football nation India, but as part of the LFC world tour, former Reds Emile Heskey and Jason Mcateer are in New Delhi.

WION caught up with former England international Emile Heskey to speak on the Reds remarkable rise back to the top of English football.

The duo will be participating in a unique fan experience on Saturday which will also feature singer Jamie Webster, the creator of the now-famous fan chant ''Allez Allez Allez.''

It seemed like the reigning world and European champions would complete the league season unbeaten but a shock 3-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Watford demolished their aura of invincibility.

That was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday which ended their hopes of a treble.

Three defeats in the last four games is a slight cause for concern for Jurgen Klopp's men to which Heskey replied: "We are not concerned, with the manager we have here Jurgen Klopp, (he) will calm the squad down and reassure of the right path and it is just a minor blip and will resume business".

Premier League leaders Liverpool will have the opportunity to take another huge step towards a first-ever league title in 30 years against Bournemouth tomorrow. Heskey was asked if the Reds will consider this game as crucial to get back to winning ways to which he replied:&nbsp; "Every game is crucial if you are trying to push your players mentally and physically, the numbers they reckon currently are phenomenal." &nbsp;

When asked about the team's play in this year Heskey replied: "It is phenomenal to see them play, their fluency in the forward play and solid defence, I would like to play with this team. I love Firminho's play he makes a lot of things right and John Henderson is playing out of this world at this moment so everything is falling into place."

The Reds who found it difficult to even qualify for Europa are just four wins away from clinching that long-awaited league title. Heskey said: "The German (Klopp) has energized the team and the fans, he is doing a pretty good job."

Ole's team was struck by Chris Woods's opening goal and Jay Rodriguez's second-half goals shattered the team's hopes for a league win. They hope for settling for a Champions League spot now. The Reds had the ball in the net late on through Shaw, but it was ruled out for a foul in the build-up.#MUFC #MUNBUR — Manchester United (@ManUtd) January 22, 2020 × Solskjaer did not defend his team, in fact, he accepted the flaws in the team while the play was on. Premier League: Manchester United hit new low after getting defeated by Burnley

Manchester United midfielder <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/manchester-united-considering-january-reinforcements-with-pogba-mctominay-injured-271629">Paul Pogba</a> posted a series of bizarre videos on social media after undergoing ankle surgery on Tuesday before confirming the procedure had been successful.

Apparently still feeling the effects of the anaesthetic, Pogba posted videos on Instagram saying he was unsure if he was "high or sober" and that he was blessed to be alive, before talking about needing a haircut.

He later deleted the stories and replaced them with a shorter one in which he appeared less groggy.

"It's me I'm back. Everything went well. We have to keep the positive energy," the French World Cup winner said.

"You have to keep happy, so I'll put some music on and dance on one leg obviously... you know me you have to keep the smile."

Pogba, who has made only eight appearances in all competitions this season, has been repeatedly linked by British media with a move away from United but his agent <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/paul-pogba-must-put-his-head-down-focus-on-manchester-uniteds-pre-season-bryan-robson-236301">Mino Raiola</a> told Sky Sports last month that the midfielder would be staying at Old Trafford.

Pogba's recovery is expected to keep him out of action for up to four weeks. The 26-year-old was sidelined for three months earlier this season with another ankle injury.

United will host local rivals <a href="https://www.wionews.com/sports/fa-cup-solskjaer-needs-time-to-make-lasting-impact-at-manchester-united-guardiola-272687">Manchester City</a> in the first leg of the League Cup semi-finals later on Tuesday.
