Alphabet just got a reminder of how crucial it is for investors to believe the company has a successful ai strategy. This past week, the owner of Google saw a $87 billion rise in market worth in a single day following the demonstration of its Gemini big language model. Ashley is an AI-powered campaign volunteer but is far from the typical robocaller since none of her responses&nbsp;are canned or pre-recorded, given her ability to hold conversational calls. &nbsp;

The creators, as per Reuters, intend to mainly work with Democratic campaigns and candidates, and say she is the first political phone banker powered by generative AI technology similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

According to Ashley’s creators at a tech startup Civox, she is capable of having an infinite number of customised one-on-one conversations at the same time.&nbsp;

Over the weekend, the new AI tool was deployed to have high-quality conversations on a large scale paving the way for political campaigning where candidates want to use technology to engage voters.&nbsp;

Ashley called thousands of Pennsylvania voters on behalf of Daniels and like a pro campaign volunteer she analysed a person’s profile to have tailored conversations around their key issues.&nbsp;

“This one kept my attention,” 63-year-old David Fish told Reuters. “The thing I really liked was that it identified itself as AI and didn’t try to fool me.”

Civox, cofounded by Ilya Mouzykantskii and Adam Reis said that Ashley uses a combination of more than 20 different open-source AI models and licensed technology to build Ashley. However, they declined to disclose the exact generative AI models they are using.&nbsp;

“This is going to scale fast,” said Mouzykantskii, the London-based CEO of Civox. “We intend to be making tens of thousands of calls a day by the end of the year and into the six digits pretty soon. This is coming for the 2024 election and it’s coming in a very big way. The future is now.”

While the US Federal Election Commission has begun looking into whether to regulate AI use in campaigns, there is very little clarity about whether what Daniels is doing is legal or not, but she does plan on using her experience with AI to find ways to regulate it.&nbsp;

“If I’m the first one to deploy tools that rely on AI in the electoral process, I can help figure out what policies and regulations are useful and valuable and also train the electorate in recognizing what ethical AI use in campaigning looks like,” the Democrat candidate told Forbes.&nbsp;

According to Bloomberg, the Saudi fund was informed last year about the Committee’s decision, a move which came in the backdrop of concerns regarding national security.

"CFIUS is committed to taking all necessary actions within its authority to safeguard U.S. national security. Consistent with law and practice, CFIUS does not publicly comment on transactions that it may or may not be reviewing," the US watchdog said in a statement.

CFIUS is an inter-agency committee which reviews foreign investments in US businesses and real estate that implicate national security concerns, Reuters reported.

Tech giant Microsoft, which has invested billions of dollars in ChatGPT maker OpenAI, has now got a seat on the board that&nbsp;recently fired CEO Sam Altman, kicking off an incredible series of events that saw him joining Microsoft, then returning to OpenAI as CEO.

A memo was shared with OpenAI staff on Wednesday (Nov 29) apprising them of the development.

The memo was later posted to OpenAI's blog.

It also had a list of priorities from CEO Sam Altman as to how the company would move forward.

The startup went through a chaotic phase on November 17 when Sam Altman was fired.

Soon after his firing, OpenAI staff and investors rebelled, forcing OpenAI's hand to rehire Altman.

When the dramatic events were unfolding less than two weeks ago, Microsoft had offered to hire not only Altman but OpenAI's 750-strong staff, essentially creating an existential crisis for the startup.

With Altman's return, there was an overhaul of the OpenAI board. Microsoft has now got a seat in a non-voting capacity.

“Your conduct has made it clear you did not have the competence to oversee OpenAI,” the letter added. This letter just comes hours after it was announced Altman and Brockman would be joining Microsoft to head a new advanced AI research unit.

The staff also said that they would join Altman at Microsoft unless their demands were met.&nbsp;

Mira Murati was briefly&nbsp;appointed as the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OpenAI soon after its co-founder Sam Altman was ousted from the company behind Artificial Intelligence-powered chatbot ChatGPT.

Murati was working as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at OpenAI but after Sam Altman was fired from his position as CEO on November 18, she&nbsp;was appointed as the interim CEO.&nbsp;

Murati was born in San Francisco in 1988, and was raised in America.

Previously, she held the position of senior product manager at Tesla, after having received her Bachelor of Engineering degree from The Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth.

It must be noted that OpenAI’s board is not tasked with maximising the company’s profits, as it is in the case of traditional companies. The motto of the board is to ensure the creation of “broadly beneficial” artificial general intelligence, or AGI.

According to reports, there was a battle simmering between two warring factions within the OpenAI. The other faction, led by Sutskeve, which focused on the dangers associated with the superintelligent AI, seems to have won.

<h2>Altman’s plans to launch a new venture</h2>

Soon after Altman was told to step down as OpenAI’s CEO, the news came that he and Brockman were already planning to ditch the ChatGPT parent and preparing to launch their own AI venture.

He was allegedly talking to investors regarding his new firm, which was still “in development”, reports said on Saturday. It was also anticipated that many of his old recruits at OpenAI could also join the new venture.

The news was never confirmed by Sam Altman. Additionally, OpenAI’s chief operating officer, Brad Lightcap, made clear in a statement to the employees that Sam’s departure was over a “breakdown in communication between Sam and the board”, and not “malfeasance or anything related to our financial, business, safety, or security/privacy practices”.
