Some of these pre-built bots have already been adopted by big companies like McKinsey.

Microsoft itself has been using these agents internally to improve sales revenue, customer case resolution, and marketing conversion rates.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that AI agents can enhance productivity and reduce monotonous tasks.

“These tools are fundamentally changing outsourcing, increasing value and reducing waste,” he said.

The Copilot Studio will allow users, including those without coding skills, to build agents using Microsoft’s AI models, some of which are developed by OpenAI, which made ChatGPT.

Nadella called this a 'no-code way for you to be able to build agents'.&nbsp;

Charles Lamanna, a corporate vice president at Microsoft, was dismissive when asked about the impact the Copilots can have on employment.

Saying that the bots will help remove 'mundane, monotonous' aspects of jobs, Lamanna told The Guardian newspaper, “It’s much more of an enabler and an empowerment tool than anything else.”&nbsp;

He compared AI tools such as agents to the arrival of personal computers decades ago.

“The personal computer didn’t show up on every desk to begin with, but eventually it was on every desk because it brought so much capability and information to the fingertips of every employee.

At least two prominent economists, one of them a Nobel laureate, have warned against hyping up artificial intelligence, just as Microsoft-backed OpenAI, at the forefront of generative AI, was declared to be worth over $157 billion after a new funding round.

In recent interviews and articles, MIT economist Daron Acemoglu has criticised the hype around AI. Fellow economist and Nobel Laureate Paul Romer is also sceptical about any economic windfalls accruing from AI.

Acemoglu&nbsp;warned that the hype could lead to wasted investments and unkept promises and even a market crash akin to the crypto crash.&nbsp;

They can do that in a few places with some human supervisory oversight like coding, but in most places they cannot. That's a reality check for where we are right now,” he said.

Studies that forecast significant economic growth from AI lack any empirical evidence, he pointed out, while adding that AI might eventually exacerbate inequality.

He advocated a more regulated approach to AI, as opposed to uncritical optimism about the technology.

He warned that the AI frenzy could eventually end up in a tech stocks crash in what he called an “AI spring followed by AI winter”.

"If you listen to tech industry leaders, business-sector forecasters, and much of the media, you may believe that recent advances in generative AI will soon bring extraordinary productivity benefits, revolutionising life as we know it. Yet neither economic theory nor the data support such exuberant forecasts," he said.

China hosts around 130 large language models, accounting for 40 per cent of the global total. While US companies lead in generative AI innovation, Chinese firms have been embroiled in a price war that might affect their profit margins and innovation capacity.

Nonetheless, experts like Winston Ma of New York University suggest that this situation comes "at a time when Chinese big tech players are closing on performance gap with OpenAI and are offering these Chinese LLM models essentially free."

Although OpenAI's parent is a nonprofit, Microsoft has invested $13 billion in a for-profit subsidiary, for what would be a 49% stake. The Microsoft-OpenAI partnership is also under informal inquiry in other regions.

The agreement, reached last week by regulators according to sources and is expected to be finalised soon.

The FTC will look into Microsoft's $650 million deal with AI startup Inflection AI, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday (June 6), citing a source familiar with the matter.

Notably, in January, the FTC ordered OpenAI, Microsoft, Alphabet, Amazon and Anthropic to provide information on latest investments and partnerships involving generative AI companies and cloud service providers.

The FTC launched a probe into OpenAI last July over concerns that its practices violated consumer protection laws and potentially compromised personal data.

ChatGPT was down for several users globally on Tuesday (June 4)&nbsp;with OpenAI saying a fix had been implemented and it was monitoring the results. A report by TechRadar said that the first reports of user experiencing ChatGPT hit downdetector at 12 pm IST (2.30 am ET). However, according to OpenAI,&nbsp;the outage has officially lasted just over two hours now.&nbsp;

Several users on X complained about the outage. "Chat GPT is down, I'm not doing any actual thinking, I refuse. I'll just sit here until it becomes available again," X user Bitcoin Lebowski said.

"ChatGPT is down. What if it never comes back and we have to use our own brains to write stuff again?," another user by the name of Tokyo Todd wrote on the microblogging site.

"How am I supposed to get any work done with ChatGPT being down?," a user Dorian Develops said in a post.&nbsp;

Tuesday's outage came days after the privacy watchdog of the European Union (EU) said that OpenAI's&nbsp;efforts to produce less factually false output from its&nbsp;ChatGPT&nbsp;chatbot were not enough to ensure full compliance with EU data rules.

"Although the measures taken in order to comply with the transparency principle are beneficial to avoid misinterpretation of the output of&nbsp;ChatGPT, they are not sufficient to comply with the data accuracy principle," the taskforce said in a report released on May 25.&nbsp;

"In addition, the outputs provided by&nbsp;ChatGPT&nbsp;are likely to be taken as factually accurate by end users, including information relating to individuals, regardless of their actual accuracy," the taskforce added.&nbsp;

Open AI, the creators of ChatGPT and Meta, which is the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp has said that they have acted on content which is being used to influence Indian elections and further Khalistani propaganda.

OpenAI highlighted in their report "AI and Covert Influence Operations: Latest Trends" that they disrupted activities of an Israeli commercial company, STOIC which was involved in generating content related to the Gaza conflict and Indian elections.&nbsp;

Initially targeting audiences in Canada, the US, and Israel with content in English and Hebrew, STOIC shifted its focus to India in early May, generating English-language web articles and social media comments critical of the ruling BJP party and supportive of the opposition Congress party.&nbsp;

OpenAI stated, "in May, we disrupted some activity focused on the Indian elections less than 24 hours after it began."

The report added, "the network began generating comments that focused on India, criticized the ruling BJP party and praised the opposition Congress party."

Simultaneously, Meta's "Adversarial Threat Report" revealed the removal of multiple accounts linked to a network originating in China supporting Khalistani propaganda. Meta's report said it removed "37 Facebook accounts, 13 Pages, five Groups, and nine accounts on Instagram for violating our policy against coordinated inauthentic behavior."&nbsp;

The network targeted the global Sikh community across various countries, including Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, the UK, and Nigeria.
