At Chandani Chowk, the AQI was at 370 with PM 2.5 and PM10 at 356. In the Delhi University area, the level of air pollution was high as the AQI was recorded at 311 at 8:30 in the morning.

The SAFAR model forecast suggests that AQI is likely to stay in the 'very poor' category for today and marginally deteriorate in the lower end of the 'very poor' category tomorrow.

Delhi Airport International Limited (DIAL) and Zurich Airport are among the four entities who submitted bids for the proposed Jewar International Airport, an official said.

Technical bids for selection of the developer of the project were opened at the office of the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) here on Wednesday.

"DIAL, Zurich Airport International AG, Adani Enterprises Limited and Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holdings Limited have participated in the global bidding," Yamuna Expressway Authority CEO Arun Veer Singh told ANI.

He said the six-month-long bidding period of the project ended on October 30 and now an evaluation of the technical qualifications of the bids will be conducted.

"A separate financial bid will be opened on November 29. The companies which will qualify in the technical bid will participate in the financial bid. It will be known after the evaluation whether every entity or some of them qualify for the financial bid," he said.

The NIAL had floated a global tender to hire a developer for the proposed airport on May 30. Jewar Airport will be spread over 1,334 hectare and two runways will initially be built. The construction of the two-runway will be completed in four stages, Singh said.

The airport, the third in the national capital region after Delhi's Indira Gandhi International airport and Ghaziabad's Hindon airport, will cost an estimated over Rs 29,000 crore.&nbsp;

Locals especially the middle-aged people complained of breathless and fatigue urged the Delhi government to take requisite measures to combat the menace.

"The pollution is increasing in Delhi. The government must do something. My children are also getting affected," said Pramod Sharma, a local while speaking to ANI.

"The government must roll out a policy so that the vehicles can be reduced on roads. I do cycling every day but now in this pollution, it is getting difficult for me. Things will become worse in the future if some actions are not taken," said Javed Ahmad, another local.

Due to a thick blanket of smog, the visibility in the city also dropped affecting the road traffic at major junctions such as Signature Bridge and Akshardham Temple road.

Soon after receiving the information about the incident, police force and rescue teams were rushed to the spot.

Those injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

"One man, who was driving the tractor, died after the fixtures came crashing down on him, while six others suffered injuries and are hospitalised," PTI quoted Amit Kumar Singh, SHO of the Sector 39 police station as saying.

"The labourers were wearing the helmets but were working without a safety harness," the SHO said, adding that no formal complaint was lodged with the police till the afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Greater Noida authority last month began cracking down against the unauthorised structures in Shahberi where a twin building collapse in July had killed nine people.&nbsp;

The Greater Noida authority, in July, had sealed around 30 buildings, which were illegal and unsafe as the building owners flouted building by-laws while constructing them.

The Yogi Adityanatha government has moved quickly to contain the fallout after Patanjali Ayurveda co-founder Acharya Balkrishna said they were moving their Rs 6,000-crore food-processing plant out of Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

Balkrishna&nbsp;made his announcement Tuesday, saying they had received "no cooperation" from the government.&nbsp;

The planned food park was supposed to come up near the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida, where Patanjali already has 450 acres.&nbsp;

It was the former Akhilesh Yadav government that had allotted the 450 acres to Patanjali Ayurveda for a food and herbal park.&nbsp;

Patanjali had wanted 50 of those acres transferred to its subsidiary, Patanjali Food Products, for the setting up of the food-processing plant or mega food park. (The central government gives a Rs 150 crore subsidy for the setting up of a mega food park.)&nbsp;

But the transfer needed approval from the Centre, which was not coming because Patanjali had not completed its paperwork.&nbsp;

Patanjali in turn said they had not been able to complete the paperwork because they had got "no cooperation" from the state government.&nbsp;

Patanjali had said their plant would create 10,000 jobs, and would also buy agricultural produce from nearby famers.&nbsp;

News reports said Wednesday that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister picked up the phone and spoke with Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev — he is the other founder of Patanjali Ayurved — promising to move things along.&nbsp;

And that the food park would stay in Uttar Pradesh.&nbsp;

The Met office has forecast light rains will follow the dust storm.

Traffic came to a crawl at several areas in Delhi as the strong wind picked up dust and swirled them around, reducing visibility.

Flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport have been put on hold, news agency ANI reported.

Airport authorities had to divert at least 10 domestic flights, an official said. Vistara's Srinagar-Delhi flight was diverted to Amritsar and its Lucknow-Delhi flight was sent to Lucknow due to the inclement weather.&nbsp;

Metro movement at the Noida-Dwaraka line was stalled for 30 minutes due to bad weather conditions. The movement has now resumed, according to ANI.

The dust storm interrupted a programme that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was to attend in east Delhi's IP Extension. A Vistara flight coming to Delhi from Srinagar was diverted to Amritsar due to the dust storm, an ANI report said.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had yesterday predicted Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh would witness thunderstorm accompanied by squall.&nbsp;

It had also forecast parts of Rajasthan might see dust storm.

Thunderstorm over these hill-states states and its subsequent effect on plains in north Indian is due to a new western disturbance, the IMD had said.&nbsp;

"Thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds are also very likely at isolated places over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Vidharbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Telangana, north coastal Andhra Pradesh, south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Kerala," the IMD had said in an advisory said.&nbsp;

Several flights diverted as dust storm hits Delhi-NCR

A 28-year-old Radio Jockey, Tanya Khanna, died in Noida after her car fell into a ditch in sector&nbsp;84, Noida.

The accident occurred after the car lost&nbsp;control because of high speed.

Tanya was driving from Noida to Greater Noida in her Verna car.

Reports said the car fell into an open drain which was at least 8 foot wide. The road was also poorly lit.

The incident occurred at 1:30 am on Tuesday.

Tanya was reportedly stuck in the car as it plunged into the drain, she tried to get out her Sedan but couldn't as the door got autolocked.

The cause of her death according to the autopsy report was due to drowning.

Tanya lived in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar.

A Noida-based private institute has set up a gender-neutral toilet after its sole transgender student highlighted the problem of choosing between the men&#39;s and women&#39;s bathroom.

The gender-neutral toilet at the Indian School of Development Management (ISDM) was built after Koushik Hore, a resident of West Bengal, raised the issue with the management, institute officials said.

They claimed that this was probably the first time an educational institute in India had taken such an initiative.

Now, the toilet can be used by anybody regardless of their gender, the officials said, adding that it was inaugurated earlier this month.

Hore, a post-graduate student at ISDM, said, &quot;I took up the problem with the institution&#39;s management to resolve my conflict of choosing between the men&#39;s and women&#39;s toilets.&quot;

The institution&#39;s management is sensitising and educating students, staff and faculty about the proper usage of the toilet, the officials said.

&quot;Following Koushik&#39;s request, the idea was conceptualised four months ago and it was implemented in three to four weeks. We are sensitising people on the usage of the toilet as hygiene is of utmost importance,&quot; ISDM founder Gaurav Shah said.

Urging other educational institutes to set up gender-neutral toilets, Hore said that he felt this is a &quot;broader way of looking at the issue&quot;.

A 22-year-old local businessman Divakar Kansal was shot dead by a group of miscreants on Sunday night.

A group of three robbers attacked the&nbsp;22-year-old&nbsp;in Bhangel Phase 2, Noida at around 10 pm when he&nbsp;was setting off to his&nbsp;home along with his father after closing their shop.

The robbers shot him dead and took away his bag.&nbsp;

The bag reportedly had about 5 lakh cash in it. Though, the police have not clarified on the amount looted.&nbsp;

The killing of the shop owner was followed by huge outrage from the local people who are under immense fear and anger.&nbsp;

Noida: Man shot at by cop, family threatens protest

Two Noida policemen who were directed to lead PM Modi&#39;s convoy during his trip to Noida on Monday to inaugurate the DMRC Magenta line took a wrong turn have been suspended.&nbsp;

Sub-inspector Dilip Singh and constable Jaipal, who were in an anti-demolition vehicle were leading the cavalcade and took a wrong turn causing major security lapse.&nbsp;

Due to this, the vehicles of Modi and many other VIPs were stuck in a traffic for a few minutes at the Mahamaya flyover and a motorcycle and bus came very close to the VVIP fleet.

The cavalcade lingered there and was stuck on the expressway for 200 metres before it turned back into its original route.

A probe into an IPS officer and two DSPs has been initiated as well, as they were involved in the movement.

The security lapse took place between 2.35pm and 3pm on December 25 afternoon when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on his way to the Botanical Garden helipad from the Amity University campus.

As a result, the PM reached the helipad 10 minutes late.&nbsp;

Officials stated the entire route had been rehearsed, and there was no scope for confusion.&nbsp;

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was present during the security breach, has reportedly given a dressing down to the officials and sought an explanation.

A detailed report is likely to be submitted to the government in the next two days.

The official added that there were no casualties.

Interestingly, the metro&#39;s first &quot;driverless&quot;&nbsp;trains were to run on the magenta line.&nbsp;

The Delhi Metro had said the trains would be fully automated, capable of running without a human in the driver&#39;s cab, but that a human would be placed in the cab for the first two to three years of operations.&nbsp;
