Zakir Naik and the Islamic Research Foundation had first come under the scanner after the terrorist responsible for the 2016 Dhaka cafe attacks said in an online post that he was inspired by Naik&#39;s speeches.

The Centre had banned the organisation for five years after declaring it as an &quot;unlawful association&quot; last year in November. The NIA followed up with raids on its premises in Mumbai on November 19.

The Islamic Research Foundation had filed a plea against an immediate ban and freezing of accounts of the organisation which was dismissed by the Delhi High Court on March 16. The court said the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had sufficient material for the immediate ban.

Nearly three weeks later, three militants engaged in a fierce gunbattle with India troops in Handwara. The gunmen were eventually gunned down by Indian soldiers and a huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from them.&nbsp;

But the volte-face in NIA&#39;s findings suggest that Hafiz Saeed-led Lashkar-e-Taiba, which has been blamed for several fidayeen attacks including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, were responsible for the attacks in restive Kashmir.

Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba has routinely attacked India over the years as it attempts to &quot;liberate&quot; Kashmir from India. LeT has been recognised as a terrorist organisation by India, the United States, Russia and the European Union.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, the NIA&#39;s initial report believes JeM to be responsible for November&#39;s Nagrota attack that claimed the loss of seven Indian soldiers.

Kashmir was a crucible of lethal fidayeen attacks last year, especially after a commander of pro-Kashmir freedom organisation Burhan Wani was killed by Indian security forces in an encounter and India allegedly carried out surgical strikes to neutralise terror camps based in Pakistan.&nbsp;

Lashkar behind Uri, Handwara attacks in Kashmir, not Jaish: India's anti-terror agency

In November 2016, India&#39;s Ministry of Home Affairs informed the country&#39;s Parliament that as many as 68 supporters and sympathisers of the so-called Islamic State (IS) had been arrested by either the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or the state security agencies. Of these, as many as 50&nbsp;were arrested by the state police forces during 2016 itself. 
&nbsp; 
The number of arrests may not be very big but they have surely set alarm bells ringing within India&rsquo;s security establishment. While the Indian government maintains that IS&nbsp;has no real ground presence in India, it is not yet dismissing the IS threat to radicalise Indian youth completely. 
&nbsp; 
The MHA has acknowledged that while some persons have been reported missing from some parts of Kerala and are suspected to have joined terrorist outfits like the IS, their links with IS&nbsp;have not yet been established conclusively. The Kerala police, though, has registered as many as nine cases in this connection. 
&nbsp; 
But more than the numbers, it is the profiles and backgrounds of some of those arrested that have the security agencies intrigued.

Consider these:

It was in 2016 that Mosiuddin was nabbed from a passenger train at the Burdwan railway station in West Bengal following a tip-off. In one of his chats on the&nbsp;&ldquo;Telegram&rdquo;,&nbsp;Mosiuddin said that he hoisted the ISIS flag in Kashmir and that the local media had the footage of him with the IS&nbsp;flag even though he was masked while doing it. He even asked his IS&nbsp;handlers to watch a video titled &ldquo;Protesters to wave ISIS flag in Srinagar&rdquo; on Youtube.</li>

Profiles of several others arrested for links with IS have made security agencies sit up and take note.

Twenty-nine-year-old Mohammed Ibrahim Yazdani alias Abu Abdurrahman worked as an electrical and electronic engineering in various companies of Saudi Arabia before he was arrested from Hyderabad in 2016. His interrogation revealed a plot to prepare improvised explosive devices under the guidance of an online handler based either in Iraq or Syria.

For those around him, 31-year-old Mohd Ataullah Rahman was an English language trainer in Hyderabad. Post his arrest in July 2016, it emerged that Rahman was the religious motivator of a group which, under instructions of IS, had plans to carry out terror strikes in Hyderabad.

Investigators trying to piece together the jigsaw of why many of these people, mostly youth and many with well-settled jobs, chose to consider joining a terror outfit like the ISIS and wage war against the state, are still trying to find answers. The common thread running through most of the IS-linked arrests in India is the recovery of incriminating documents, firearms, and articles like cellphones and laptops. Investigators are also of the firm view that while IS doesn&rsquo;t have any real physical presence in India, most of those arrested for having links with it had scouted for information about IS&nbsp;on platforms like Twitter and Facebook and had joined Whatsapp groups where a variety of media to radicalise and indoctrinate them was routinely shared.

Investigations have also established that most of these operatives used encrypted applications like Telegram and Chatsecure to evade detection by law enforcement agencies.

India&rsquo;s Home Minister Rajnath Singh has, on more than one occasion, said that the threat of radicalisation by ISIS won&rsquo;t be an issue in India because people who follow Islam in India, love the country. He has also underlined several times that no innocent should be troubled and that none of the offenders should be spared. 
&nbsp; 
The Indian security establishment, meanwhile, is of the firm view that ISIS is using a variety of platforms to propagate its ideology in a bid to attract recruits from across the world. The Home Ministry has also told the Parliament that security agencies are maintaining a close watch to identify those trying to misguide the youth and that steps to counter radicalisation were being undertaken. The ministry, however, declined to disclose those steps, citing national security.

India: 50 Islamic State supporters arrested in 2016

Suspected Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) operative and fake note kingpin Ripon Sheikh alias Liton was nabbed by India&rsquo;s National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday.&nbsp;

The 22-year-old&nbsp;was arrested from Daulatpur in Malda district of West Bengal on the Bangladesh-India border.&nbsp;

According to sources in the NIA, Sheikh was wanted by 14 Indian states and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for smuggling fake currency into India from Bangladesh and circulating it in the country.&nbsp;

Officials in the NIA highlight that he had been absconding for the last six months and was arrested with the help of Border Security Force (BSF).

Sheikh has been charged with cases relating to possession, smuggling and circulation of high-quality Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) of rupees 800,000 and thereby damaging the monetary stability of India.&nbsp;

India: NIA arrests suspected JMB operative and fake note kingpin Ripon Sheikh

His arrest from Jammu and Kashmir on July 25, 2016 cut short the plans his Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) handlers had to further fuel unrest in the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani&#39;s killing by India&#39;s security forces.

Had he not been caught, Bahadur Ali&mdash; the Pakistani national against whom India&#39;s National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a charge sheet before a special court&mdash; would have attempted to mix with the protestors and throw grenades at the security forces during the agitation post Wani&#39;s killing in Kashmir.

After having crossed over into the Indian side from across the Line of Control along with two more terrorists, Ali&mdash; during a conversation with his handler from across the border&mdash; was told that the LeT cadres had been successful in fuelling large scale agitation in Kashmir after Eid following militant Burhan Wani&#39;s death, the NIA has told the court in its chargesheet today. Codenamed Alfa 3, the Lashkar handler then told Ali to &ldquo;to mix with the protestors and throw grenades at the security forces&rdquo; so as to further fuel the agitation in the Kashmir valley, the NIA has said.

NIA&#39;s main charge against Ali is that he infiltrated into India in a bid to commit acts of terrorism in various Indian cities, including its capital New Delhi. Following his arrest, Ali revealed the details of the infiltrators he was to receive as per his handler&#39;s instructions. Based on this information, a search operation was launched in Bandi Monabal area on July 26, 2016 and four unidentified terrorists were killed. A huge cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and wireless sets was recovered too.

As per the NIA, Bahadur Ali, Abu Saad and Abu Darda were provided codes in the form of nine alphabets, which were to be used to record numerals such as grid references and phone numbers.

An analysis based on the disclosure of Bahadur Ali regarding the codes has established the route taken by the trio after they crossed the LoC. &ldquo;When plotted on a map, the deciphered grid references clearly trace the infiltration route from the direction of the LoC towards Handwara,&rdquo; the NIA has stated. The NIA has added that investigation proves that Ali is well conversant with using map sheet and plotted the grid references correctly. Data on the GPS device recovered from Ali at the time of his arrest contained coordinates of Lashkar&#39;s Mandakuli &quot;launching pad&quot; in PoK.

The 50-page charge sheet traces in great detail the journey Ali and his two fellow terrorists undertook to infiltrate into India:

<ul>
	<li>On the intervening night of June 12 &amp; 13, 2016, Bahadur Ali along with two associates, Abu Saad &amp; Abu Darda, infiltrated into India by crossing the LoC.</li>
	<li>Heavily armed, the trio walked for about seven days following the grid references with the aid of GPS devices provided to them by Abu Haider at Lashkar&#39;s Mandakuli &lsquo;launching pad&rsquo;.</li>
	<li>The infiltrating terrorists were provided with eight grid references, the eighth denoting their final destination.</li>
	<li>On June 20, 2016 they reached a hilltop near village Wadar in Handwara (J&amp;K)--the sixth of the eight grid references. Here, Abu Saad sent a message to a handler called &lsquo;Walid Bhai&rsquo; by pairing his mobile phone with his wireless set--a communication technique especially designed by let to avoid interception.</li>
	<li>Around June 22, Darda and Saad went to village Wadar to arrange food, leaving Bahadur Ali on a nearby hill. After a short while Bahadur Ali heard sound of gunfire. On hearing the gunfire, Bahadur Ali was confused and he rushed towards a nearby hilltop as a precautionary measure and waited for Darda and Saad to return. The duo, however, never returned.</li>
	<li>The next morning, Bahadur Ali contacted Alfa-3, the LeT control station based in PoK, through his wireless set and apprised the receiver of let about his situation. He was directed to continue his journey and reach the final destination at the eighth grid reference.</li>
	<li>Bahadur Ali reached the location of the 8th grid reference. This point was located on a hill near village Mukam, Yahama. After reaching this point, Bahadur Ali contacted Alfa-3 who provided him with an additional grid reference, where he was told to contact a local person who would provide him food and other support.</li>
	<li>At the grid reference provided by Alfa-3, bahadur ali met one local person and two others later. After confirming each other&rsquo;s identities, the local person provided food to Bahadur Ali.</li>
	<li>On July 24, 2016, Alfa-3 directed Ali to receive a group of freshly infiltrated terrorists of Lashkar. Alfa-3 provided a grid reference, where Bahadur Ali was to receive the group of terrorists. However, before he could receive these terrorists, he was apprehended by the security forces on July 25.</li>
</ul>

Recoveries made from Ali&#39;s possession at the time of his arrest:

<ul>
	<li>One compass</li>
	<li>One ICOM wireless set</li>
	<li>One matrix sheet bearing codes</li>
	<li>Two unicode sheets (handwritten pocket diary pages), bearing text written in coded form</li>
	<li>Indian currency worth Rs 23,000 (of which 3 notes were fake)</li>
	<li>One GPS set</li>
	<li>and one map sheet</li>
</ul>

Recoveries made following information revealed by Ali after his arrest:

	<li>One AK-47 rifle</li>
	<li>Five AK-47 magazines. Each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition</li>

His arrest from Jammu and Kashmir on July 25, 2016 cut short the plans his Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) handlers had to further fuel unrest in the Kashmir Valley in the aftermath of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani's killing by India's security forces. Had he not been caught, Bahadur Ali— the Pakistani national against whom India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a charge sheet before a special court— would have attempted to mix with the protestors and throw grenades at the security forces during the agitation post Wani's killing in Kashmir. After having crossed over into the Indian side from across the Line of Control along with two more terrorists, Ali— during a conversation with his handler from across the border— was told that the LeT cadres had been successful in fuelling large scale agitation in Kashmir after Eid following militant Burhan Wani's death, the NIA has told the court in its chargesheet today. Codenamed Alfa 3, the Lashkar handler then told Ali to “to mix with the protestors and throw grenades at the security forces” so as to further fuel the agitation in the Kashmir valley, the NIA has said. NIA has accused Bahadur Ali of plotting terror attacks across India, including its capital New Delhi. (WION) × NIA's main charge against Ali is that he infiltrated into India in a bid to commit acts of terrorism in various Indian cities, including its capital New Delhi. Following his arrest, Ali revealed the details of the infiltrators he was to receive as per his handler's instructions. Based on this information, a search operation was launched in Bandi Monabal area on July 26, 2016 and four unidentified terrorists were killed. A huge cache of arms, ammunition, explosives and wireless sets was recovered too. As per the NIA, Bahadur Ali, Abu Saad and Abu Darda were provided codes in the form of nine alphabets, which were to be used to record numerals such as grid references and phone numbers. An analysis based on the disclosure of Bahadur Ali regarding the codes has established the route taken by the trio after they crossed the LoC. “When plotted on a map, the deciphered grid references clearly trace the infiltration route from the direction of the LoC towards Handwara,” the NIA has stated. The NIA has added that investigation proves that Ali is well conversant with using map sheet and plotted the grid references correctly. Data on the GPS device recovered from Ali at the time of his arrest contained coordinates of Lashkar's Mandakuli "launching pad" in PoK. The 50-page charge sheet traces in great detail the journey Ali and his two fellow terrorists undertook to infiltrate into India: On the intervening night of June 12 & 13, 2016, Bahadur Ali along with two associates, Abu Saad & Abu Darda, infiltrated into India by crossing the LoC. Heavily armed, the trio walked for about seven days following the grid references with the aid of GPS devices provided to them by Abu Haider at Lashkar's Mandakuli ‘launching pad’. The infiltrating terrorists were provided with eight grid references, the eighth denoting their final destination. On June 20, 2016 they reached a hilltop near village Wadar in Handwara (J&K)--the sixth of the eight grid references. Here, Abu Saad sent a message to a handler called ‘Walid Bhai’ by pairing his mobile phone with his wireless set--a communication technique especially designed by let to avoid interception. Around June 22, Darda and Saad went to village Wadar to arrange food, leaving Bahadur Ali on a nearby hill. After a short while Bahadur Ali heard sound of gunfire. On hearing the gunfire, Bahadur Ali was confused and he rushed towards a nearby hilltop as a precautionary measure and waited for Darda and Saad to return. The duo, however, never returned. The next morning, Bahadur Ali contacted Alfa-3, the LeT control station based in PoK, through his wireless set and apprised the receiver of let about his situation. He was directed to continue his journey and reach the final destination at the eighth grid reference. Bahadur Ali reached the location of the 8th grid reference. This point was located on a hill near village Mukam, Yahama. After reaching this point, Bahadur Ali contacted Alfa-3 who provided him with an additional grid reference, where he was told to contact a local person who would provide him food and other support. At the grid reference provided by Alfa-3, bahadur ali met one local person and two others later. After confirming each other’s identities, the local person provided food to Bahadur Ali. On July 24, 2016, Alfa-3 directed Ali to receive a group of freshly infiltrated terrorists of Lashkar. Alfa-3 provided a grid reference, where Bahadur Ali was to receive the group of terrorists. However, before he could receive these terrorists, he was apprehended by the security forces on July 25. Chargesheeted Pakistani was sent to Kashmir to fuel unrest after Burhan Wani's death: Indian investigative agency

India&#39;s National Investigation Agency (NIA) &nbsp;on Friday filed a charge sheet against Pakistani national Bahadur Ali for allegedly planning terrorist attacks in India on behalf of Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT). 
 
The NIA alleges that as part of LeT&#39;s plan, Ali, along with his two associates, Abu Saad and Abu Darda, all trained terrorists, infiltrated into Indian territory equipped with arms and ammunition, navigation equipment, combat material and other articles. They entered India with&nbsp;the aim of carrying out terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and at different places of the country including capital New Delhi, as per the given instructions to them by their LeT handlers in&nbsp;Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

Ali&#39;s accomplices were later killed in an encounter, the charge sheet states.&nbsp;

Ali, alias Saifullah Mansoor, was constantly in touch with Alfa-3 &mdash; the LeT control station based in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir, the NIA alleges in the charge sheet.

The charge sheet states that a GPS device and a pocket diary recovered from Ali established his links with the LeT and contained the names of several towns in Kashmir as well as&nbsp;Delhi. &nbsp;He was also allegedly instructed by the LeT to mix with the stone-pelting agitators and throw grenades at the Indian security forces after the death of militant Burhan Wani in July.

&quot;The data retrieved from the GPS device The pocket diary recovered from Ali, among other contained coordinates of the Mandakuli &#39;launching pad&#39; of LeT. The pocket diary contains the name of several towns in Jammu and Kashmir (J&amp;K), like Rafiabad, Kunzar, Tangmarg, Budgam, Poonch, Jammu and Udhampur, besides Delhi. Given the fact that Ali is a trained cadre of LeT, the inclusion of the names of these towns or cities in the diary indicates that he was tasked to carry outterror attacks at several places, including in Delhi,&quot; the charge sheet states.

It added that Ali, a school dropout and a resident of a village near Pakista&#39;s Lahore, was provided with a map depicting parts of J&amp;K and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).&nbsp;

He was provided with grid references (GRs) that had been recovered from his possession. Ali plotted these GRs on the map sheet which was sent for examination to the Surveyor General of India at Dehradun which affirmed that the terrorist had plotted them correctly, the charge sheet alleges.

&quot;This clearly establishes that Ali is well conversant with the use of the map sheet and that he has received training in the subject.&quot;

The charge sheet was filed before a district judge, Amar Nath, in capital New Delhi. The NIA had registered a case against Ali, who was arrested on July 24 last year from Yahama village in North Kashmir&#39;s border with Pakistan.

It states that a thorough probe found that LeT has set up a well-organised machinery for the recruitment of vulnerable young men from different provinces of Pakistan as part of a conspiracy to wage war against India by committing terrorist acts in various parts of the country.

&quot;Once recruited, these impressionable young men are put through various training regimes with the twin objectives of radicalising their worldview and providing them with &#39;military&#39; skills. Subsequent to their training, these trained cadres of LeT are illegally pushed into Indian Territory where they commit terrorist acts with the help of a network of their supporters and facilitators,&quot; the charge sheet said.

The charge sheet also highlighted the gaps along the Line of Control (LoC). It states that Ali, along with two other terrorists, walked undetected for seven days before they reached their destination. The trio had entered India between the intervening night to June 12 and 13 last year and reached their destination only around June 20.&nbsp;

NIA has slapped charges under Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosives Act, the Explosives Substances Act, Arms Act, the Foreigners Act and the Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act.&nbsp;

Ali has been in judicial custody since August. A special court had on December 19 extended the judicial custody of Ali till January 18.

India's investigating agency files charge sheet against Pakistani national for links to LeT

Sources in the NIA Jamaat-Ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) leader Abu Suleiman wanted Musa to target foreigners and US nationals in India and behead them.

The JMB, a fundamentalist organisation formed in 1998, aims to replace the democratic government with an Islamic state which follows the Sharia.

Musa came under the scanner of Indian investigation agencies after his e-mails and calls were traced to Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Syria. Officials in the NIA say the suspect had been in touch with several IS&nbsp;operatives in Syria through Facebook and Twitter.

Musa first met JMB leader Suleiman during his sister&#39;s wedding in India&#39;s eastern state of West Bengal after the latter wanted to meet him in person.

On July 4, 25-year-old Mohammad Masiuddin alias Musa was arrested from the Burdwan railway station by CID (Criminal Investigation Department)&nbsp;-- an Indian investigation agency -- &nbsp;for allegedly radicalising young men to join IS.&nbsp;

A month ago, a&nbsp;seven-member team of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had arrived in Kolkata to interrogate Musa.&nbsp;Subsequently, the probe was taken over by India&#39;s National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA is currently currently probing his links with the JMB&nbsp;and his involvement in the deadly Dhaka attack in July. Five heavily-armed militants had launched an assault on an upscale bakery in Dhaka, leaving 29 people dead.

Meanwhile,&nbsp;JMB&#39;s Suleiman is on the run and both the Indian and Bangladeshi governments are on the lookout for him.

IS suspect Musa planned to kill, scalp Americans: India

Three suspected Al-Qaeda operatives were arrested on Monday by India&rsquo;s National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Madurai in India&rsquo;s southern state of Tamil Nadu.

The three were allegedly planning to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with 22 top leaders of India, police said.

Those arrested were identified as M Khareem, Asif Sultan Mohammed and Abbas Ali, PTI reported.

While Khareem was arrested from Usmannagar, Asif Sultan Mohammed was picked up from GR Nagar and Abbas Ali from Ismailpuram, police said.

Police said NIA raided several places on specific information that suspected Al-Qaeda activists were operating from South Tamil Nadu in and around Madurai. &ldquo;Explosive materials and arms have been seized from them,&rdquo; police said.

NIA is searching for two other suspected Al-Qaeda operatives, Hakeem and Dawood Sulaiman.

The searches began this morning with the help of local police after a case was registered by the NIA&#39;s Mumbai branch last night under section 153-A of the Indian penal code (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, PTI reported.

The searches come only a few days after the union cabinet banned the IRF in meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.

Naik and the IRF have been under the scanner ever since reports emerged that one of the Dhaka cafe attackers had been influenced by Naik&#39;s speeches.

Naik has been outside of the country ever since the news broke.

His speeches are banned in the UK, Canada, and Malaysia.

India's NIA raids premises of preacher Zakir Naik's Islamic Research Foundation

India&#39;s National Investigation Agency (NIA) along with teams of police officials from the southern states of Kerala, Delhi and Telangana arrested six youth on charges of plotting terror attacks. The agency officials said that the youth, who belonged to Tamil Nadu and Kerala, entered into criminal conspiracy and allegedly formed a terror module after being inspired by the dreaded Islamic State (IS) outfit. All the accused are to be produced in a special NIA court in Kerala&rsquo;s Ernakulam where the probe agency will be seeking their police custody.

The accused have been identified as Manseed (30), Abu Basheer (29), Swalih Mohamad (26), Safwan (30), Jasim(25) and Ramshad Nageelan Kandiyil (24).While Abu Basheer hails from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, the rest of the youth belong to Kozhikode, Kannur, Mallapuram and Thrissur in Kerala. According to the NIA, the accused were allegedly collecting explosives to target important persons and places of public importance.

&ldquo;Credible information was received that some youth from Kerala and Tamil Nadu along with their accomplices have entered into a criminal conspiracy to commit terrorist acts by collecting explosives and other offensive material for targeting important persons and places of public importance in various parts of south lndia,&rdquo; said NIA spokesperson Alok Mittal. NIA on Sunday said that the information was passed on to the Central government which directed the agency to investigate the case.

&ldquo;Acting on the information, the NIA teams along with Kerala Police, Delhi police and Telangana police, launched surveillance on the movements of the accused involved in the conspiracy. During searches conducted today in the districts of Kozikhode and Kannur in Kerala, 6 persons, have been arrested for their involvement in the conspiracy. Five of them were arrested while they were conducting a meeting at Kanakamala hilltop, Kannur district, Kerala. During subsequent searches, another person was detained from Kuttiyadi in Kozhikode district and arrested later on,&rdquo; said NIA officials.

The agency registered a case at its Kochi branch and booked the accused under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) 121 )Waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India), 121A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section )and 122 (collecting arms) of the Indian Penal code and other sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The agency also said that during the searches, incriminating material including electronic devices have been seized from their possession and search of their premises. Follow-up searches are being conducted by NIA in Chennai, Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu and Kannur, Kozikhode and Mallapuram in Kerala with support of Tamil Nadu and Kerala police.

The agency registered a case at its Kochi branch and booked the accused under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) 121 )Waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war, against the Government of India), 121A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section )and 122 (collecting arms) of the Indian Penal code and other sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The agency also said that during the searches, incriminating material including electronic devices have been seized from their possession and search of their premises. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) in India will approach banks and financial institution based in northernmost state, Jammu and Kashmir, for assistance in order to prepare a list of local residents and entities whose bank accounts have shown &quot;suspicious transactions&quot; in the last two months. 
 
A senior official confirmed the development with dna but refused to share the names of the banks that the agency might be approaching for assistance in the near future.&nbsp; 
 
&quot;The banks are obliged to share information as per the section 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc) and 43 F of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).&quot; &nbsp; 
 
According to the section 91 of CRPC, if any officer considers that the production of any document or other thing is necessary for the purposes of any investigation, inquiry or trial, a concerned court of the officer himself can issue a written order to the person in whose possession or power such document or thing is believed to be, requiring him to attend and produce it. Section 43F of UAPA also deals with obligation to furnish information.

According to the agency, three key areas are being looked at by its sleuths. The most important among the three areas seems to be that of cross-border trade which, in the past, has been seen as something that could be used as a confidence building measure to bring all the parties in Kashmir conflict closer to each other.
