The National Investigation Agency has detained an alleged Jaish-e-Mohammed operative Muneer-ul-Hassan Qadri from Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday.

The NIA's arrest has been made in connection with the 2016 terror attack on an army camp in the state's Nagrota.

The attack on the army camp had claimed the lives of seven soldiers and two officers. The counter operation had killed three Pakistani terrorists and recovered a huge quantity of firearms, ammunition, explosives and other articles.

The JeM operative was in the custody of police for some time.&nbsp

A case was registered by the National Investigation Agency into the incident in December 2016 under sections 120B, 121, 307 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) and sections seven and 27 of the Arms Act, 1958.&nbsp

In a fresh source of embarrassment for Pakistan, twenty-year-old Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Zaibullah alias Hamza has told India's national investigation agency (NIA) that Pakistan is not just sending terror agents into the country but also smuggling arms.

Zaibullah's disclosure is significant as security forces admit that no terrorist has been caught without a weapon in an encounter.

According to the information provided by the LeT operative, for every two infiltrations, there is one arms consignment stocked in safe areas. Such cargos are dumped in areas demarcated by the LeT.&nbsp;

He further informed that the terrorists can take weapons including pistols, AK-47s, grenade launchers among other arms from the safe areas.&nbsp;

It was earlier believed that the terrorists relied on stealing weapons during the encounters. Zaibullah also noted that at a time, one arms package contains 6-7 weapons.&nbsp;

Zaibullah was arrested on April 6 this year after India's security agencies acted on a tip-off. He had earlier escaped an encounter in March.&nbsp;

"Pakistan's army is rewarded for every kill. &nbsp;LeT's Falahai-i-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) carries banners reading "Burmese and Kashmiri Muslims must join the FIF". These are put outside mosques. The FIF is funded by many events in Pakistan, they are funded by the Saudis too. These funds are collected for the Mujahideens at the Muzaffarabad camps," Zaibullah informed.&nbsp;

A Maoist, allegedly involved in the killing of a former Janata Dal (U) MLA, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Chaibasa in West Singhbhum district on Friday, the police said.

Acting on a tip-off, an NIA team arrested Sunil Dangil alias Chris, a member of the surrendered leader Kundan Pahan squad of the outfit, on Friday, they said.

The Maoist is one of the seven accused involved in the gunning down of Ramesh Singh Munda, a JD(U) MLA from Tamar in Ranchi in 2008.

He was taken to Ranchi by the NIA team after he was produced before the local court.

Former Jharkhand minister Gopal Krishna Patar was arrested in 2017 by the NIA for allegedly conniving with the Maoists to get his political rival Munda killed in 2008, they said.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Shahid Yusuf, the son of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) chief Syed Salahuddin in a terror funding case.

According to the Final Report Yusuf had hatched a conspiracy to received funds from Pakistan through hawala channels to spread terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp

The NIA filed the chargesheet on Friday against Shahid Yusuf, under section 120-B of the IPC and 13, 17, 18, 20, 21, 38 and 40 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, for willfully raising, receiving, collecting 'terror funds' and holding proceeds of terrorism' for furtherance of terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

His bail plea was dismissed by the trial court in New Delhi on March 7.

The NIA charge sheet included punishment for unlawful activities, punishment for raising funds for terrorist act, punishment for conspiracy, punishment for being member of terrorist gang or organisation, punishment for holding proceeds of terrorism, membership of a terrorist organisation and support given to a terrorist organization, under sections of UAPA.

The final report also accused him of hatching a criminal conspiracy, punishable under section 120-B of Indian Penal Code.&nbsp

The agency said the case was registered on the basis of information regarding funds from Pakistan being sent to Jammu and Kashmir through hawala channels via Delhi to spread terrorism. It has claimed that Yousuf had received a total of nearly Rs. 4.5 lakh through eight international wire transfers.The agency, which had in 2011 arrested several persons including one Ghulam Mohd Bhat with Rs. 21.2 lakh.

Shahid Yousuf was the seventh accused against whom a chargesheet has been filed in the case. The other accused people include Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Mohammad Sidiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo, Farooq Ahmad Dagga, Mohammad Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat.

Of these seven accused people, five, including Shahid Yusuf, are in custody and two namely Mohd Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmad Bhat are absconding. A family of three and another person from Kasaragod district of Kerala, suspected to have joined terror outfit Islamic State, have been reportedly killed, according to information reaching one of the relatives of the deceased.&nbsp;

The deceased were among the 21 persons from Kasaragod district who went missing and later reportedly joined the ISIS in 2016. One of the relatives of the deceased has received a message that they have been killed, Kasaragod district panchayat member V P P Mustafa said.

But there were no details about how it happened, source of the information or from where it came, he told PTI.

When contacted, police also confirmed that such a message had been received three days ago. As per the information, the deceased were a Shiha man, his wife Ajmala and their child, all hailing from Padana, and Muhammed Mansad from Thrikaripur in Kasaragod district.

The searches started early morning and continued until late afternoon. All the barracks and the open ground were thoroughly searched with the help of well-trained teams and deep search metal detectors. A close watch on the entire operation was kept with the help of drones.

During the search, 25 mobile phones, some SIM cards, 05 SD cards, 05 pen drives, 01 iPod and a large number of incriminating documents/articles including a poster of Hizbul Mujahideen and a Pakistani flag beside jihadi literature were seized.

In a relief to Kerala-based Hadiya, an alleged victim of love jihad, the Supreme Court today set aside the high court order annulling her marriage to a Muslim man.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, however, said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) may continue its investigation in the matter.

The apex court had in August last year asked the NIA to probe the case of conversion and marriage of Hadiya, as the agency claimed a &quot;pattern&quot; was emerging in Kerala.

The matter came to the fore when Shafin Jahan, Hadiya&#39;s husband, had challenged a Kerala High Court order annulling his marriage with her and sending the woman to her parents&#39; custody.

On November 27 last year, the apex court had freed Hadiya from her parents&#39; custody and sent her to college to pursue her studies, even as she had pleaded that she should be allowed to go with her husband.

The high court had in May last year annulled the marriage terming it as an instance of &#39;love jihad&#39;, following which Jahan had approached the apex court.&nbsp;

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has initiated the process for securing an Interpol Red Corner notice against Pakistani diplomat Amir Zubair Siddiqui, who was chargesheeted last week for allegedly conspiring to launch terror strikes on the US and Israeli consulates in South India.

Officials in the agency said the paperwork was being completed and would be sent soon to the Interpol headquarters based in Lyon in France for issuance of the Red Corner notice against Siddiqui, who during his stint at Pakistani High Commission in Sri Lanka during 2014 had conspired to carry out terror strikes in India.

He was named by a Sri Lankan resident Sakir Hussain, who is at present undergoing a simple imprisonment after pleading guilty in a court of law. He was arrested by the Tamil Nadu Police after the Intelligence Bureau busted the conspiracy in April 2014. His jail term will end next year.

Hussain had carried out reconnaissance of the US consulate in Chennai and Israeli consulate in Bangalore to facilitate a terror strike similar to 26/11. For this, two terrorists were to be flown in from Maldives.

Siddiqui was working as visa counsellor at the Pakistan High Commission in Colombo but had to be repatriated to Islamabad after India mounted pressure on Sri Lanka about his alleged activities targeting this country.

He was nailed after the NIA was handed over evidence by the US authorities. The documents handed over by the US to India established communication between Hussain and &#39;Shahjee&#39;, a Pakistani national introduced to the accused allegedly by a Pakistani diplomat working with its mission in Sri Lanka.

The NIA, which has carried out the probe into the conspiracy meticulously, had sent a request under Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty to the US for details from service provider whose email was being used by Hussain to communicate to his handler in Sri Lanka.

The National Investigating Agency today accused Pakistan-based terror outfits of &quot;conspiring to wage war against Indian government&quot; by providing funds to foment trouble in the Kashmir Valley.

The agency told Additional Sessions Judge Tarun Sherawat that Pakistan-based outfits have been passing on money through hawala channels and alleged that officials of country&#39;s High Commission were also playing an active role.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) had on January 18 filed its 12,794-page charge sheet, along with annexures, against 12 people including Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Hafiz Saeed and Hizbul Mujahideen head Syed Salahuddin. Both Saeed and Salahuddin are absconding, it said.

&quot;A conspiracy under the supervision of Pakistan-based organisations was hatched. The accused persons were working in connivance with Saeed and Salahuddin to raise funds for the terror activities,&quot; special public prosecutor and senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, appearing for NIA, said.

The submissions were made by the agency when the court asked what evidence they had gathered to try the accused.

The agency alleged that High Commission officials were passing money through arrested businessman Zahoor Watali, who would hand it over to separatists after deducting his cut. He is currently in judicial custody.

Besides Pakistan-based terrorists Saeed and Salahuddin, and Watali, the agency has also named hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani&#39;s son-in-law Altaf Shah alias Altaf Fantoosh, Bashir Ahmad Bhat and photo journalist Kamran Yusuf, who has been identified along with Javed Ahmad Bhat as a stone pelter.

Hurriyat Conference leaders Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar alias Bitta Karate, Mohammad Akbar Khanday and Raja Mehrajuddin Kalwal have also been charged by the agency.

It alleged that the arrested accused were associated with &quot;Hurriyat Conference and were prominent members of the society and that they had conspired to generate funds for the terror activities to oppose the lawful government of Jammu and Kashmir&quot;.

The NIA also submitted that a calendar, allegedly issued by the Hurriyat Conference, was recovered from Altaf Ahmad Funtoosh, mentioned the activities they conduct.

Luthra said the &quot;people who get hurt or killed in action by the security forces were hailed as martyrs&quot; and claim &quot;freedom as their goal&quot;. &quot;It&#39;s a misconceived cause,&quot; he said.

Letter heads of Hizbul Mujahideen were recovered from some of the arrested accused, the agency claimed, adding that Geelani had termed Afzal Guru a hero of Kashmir.

Kerala: NIA registers case against 5 for alleged IS links

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly having links with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

The arrested person, identified as Tauseef Ahmed Malik, (25), is a resident of Pulwama district, according to the anti-terror investigation agency.

Two mobile phones have also been seized from his possession.

The role of Malik about his association with the terror outfit had surfaced during the interrogation of LeT terrorist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem, who was arrested by the NIA from Aurangabad in November.

Malik came in Nayeem&#39;s contact in March 2017 when the latter had visited Pulwama and stayed with LeT operatives for three months.

Malik was later produced in Pulwama Chief Judicial Magistrate&#39;s court which granted his transit remand for four days.

The accused will be brought to Delhi and produced before the NIA Special Court at Patiala House soon.

The role of Malik about his association with the terror outfit had surfaced during the interrogation of LeT terrorist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem, who was arrested by the NIA from Aurangabad in November. Malik came in Nayeem's contact in March 2017 when the latter had visited Pulwama and stayed with LeT operatives for three months. Malik was later produced in Pulwama Chief Judicial Magistrate's court which granted his transit remand for four days. The accused will be brought to Delhi and produced before the NIA Special Court at Patiala House soon.

Sources say the additional responsibility for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) would be part of the proposed anti-human trafficking law unveiled by Maneka Gandhi last year.

The move will also require amending the law that gave birth to the counter-terrorism agency -- the National Investigation Act, 2008.

The Draft Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection, and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2016, proposed setting up a National Bureau on Trafficking in Person for &quot;prevention, investigation of the trafficking of persons cases and protection of the victims of trafficking&quot; -- a role which could be performed by the NIA, sources said.

&quot;The ministry of home affairs (MHA) wanted NIA to investigate trafficking and we have agreed to that. MHA has also given its approval for the draft Bill. After we get a green flag from Prime Minister&#39;s Office, a Cabinet note will be circulated,&quot; according to a top official of the ministry of women and child development.

Another official said that &quot;a cell within NIA&quot; could be probing human trafficking cases.

After the Union Cabinet gives its approval, the draft bill will be tabled before Parliament.

&quot;Traffickers enjoy immunity because local police agencies are not able to probe inter-state or cross-border crimes. We require a nodal agency as 80-90 per cent of trafficking cases span across various states,&quot; said President of NGO Shakti Vahini, Ravi Kant, explaining why activists have been seeking a central body to probe human trade.

Government officials say that in order to empower the NIA to investigate trafficking cases the National Investigation Act, 2008, will have to be amended.

The NIA was set up by the previous UPA government in 2009 to probe terrorist activities in the aftermath of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which killed 166 people.

As per the National Investigation Act, the anti-terror body is empowered to probe offences under eight specified laws, including the Atomic Energy Act 1962, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967, and the Anti-Hijacking Act 1982.

The proposed anti-human trafficking legislation will be independent of the existing law on trafficking in relation to prostitution -- Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956 -- while a section of the civil society has sought an umbrella law.

The draft law divides offences into &quot;trafficking&quot; and &quot;aggravated trafficking&quot;. The punishment for offences in the former category is rigorous imprisonment between 7 and 10 years and a fine of not less than Rs 1 lakh, while aggravated forms of trafficking will invite a jail term of between 10 years and life imprisonment and a fine of not less than Rs 5 lakh.

Aggravated trafficking will include trafficking of children, transgenders, differently-abled, pregnant women and those which involve the use of drugs and alcohol.

There is also a provision for a national committee as well as a central fund for the relief and rehabilitation services for the victims.

Kerala 'Love Jihad' case: SC says 'consent of girl is prime, she is a major'

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at the residence of&nbsp;Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin&#39;s son in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The NIA team reached Shahid Yusuf&#39;s residence in Budgam at 4am and searched the premises for 1.5 hours.

The team seized five mobile phones being used by Yusuf, a laptop and some incriminating documents from his house, an official said.

This comes two days after Salahuddin&rsquo;s&nbsp;son&nbsp;Yusuf was arrested by the NIA for terror funding.

The funding was being done through illegal hawala channels, the NIA said.

An NIA spokesman said that 42-year-old Shahid, who was working in the Jammu and Kashmir government&#39;s agricultural department, has given the names of overseas Hizbul Mujahideen members involved in fund-raising for the terror outfit.

The NIA said that&nbsp;during questioning&nbsp;Shahid &quot;admitted to having received funds from cadres of the Hizbul Mujahideen on the direction of his father, Mohammed Yusuf Shah alias Syed Salahuddin, for fomenting terrorist activities in the Valley&quot;.

The NIA alleged that Shahid used to receive funds through international wire money transfer from Aijaz Ahmed Bhat, an absconding accused, at present based in Saudi Arabia.

The agency alleged that Shahid is &quot;one of several Indian contacts of Bhat&quot; who have been in telephonic contact with him to receive the money transfer codes.

The case, registered by the NIA in April 2011, relates to transfer of money from Pakistan to Jammu and Kashmir through Hawala channels via Delhi which was suspected to be used in funding terrorism and secessionist activities.

The NIA has so far filed two charge sheets against six people which included G M Bhat, a close aide of pro-Pakistan separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mohammed Siddiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga. All the four were in judicial custody.

Besides them, two others - Mohammed Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmed Bhat - have also been chargesheeted by the NIA but both of them were absconding. An Interpol Red Corner notice has been issued against both.

In July, Hizbul chief Syed Salahuddin had admitted to a Pakistan TV channel that his group carried out terror attacks in India.

Salahuddin also admitted to purchasing weapons from international markets, adding that he has the capacity to deliver weapons anywhere if he is paid for it.

The US on June 27 had declared Salahuddin, &quot;Specially Designated Global Terrorist&quot;, hours before visiting Prime Minister Modi&#39;s meeting with US President Donald Trump.&nbsp;

The NIA has so far filed two charge sheets against six people which included G M Bhat, a close aide of pro-Pakistan separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mohammed Siddiq Ganai, Ghulam Jeelani Liloo and Farooq Ahmed Dagga. All the four were in judicial custody.

Besides them, two others - Mohammed Maqbool Pandit and Aijaz Ahmed Bhat - have also been chargesheeted by the NIA but both of them were absconding. An Interpol Red Corner notice has been issued against both.

In July, Hizbul chief Syed Salahuddin had admitted to a Pakistan TV channel that his group carried out terror attacks in India.

The court further said that these kinds of marriages should be encouraged as there is no boundary for love.

The court allowed Sruthi to go with her husband while ruling the marriage as &#39;valid&#39;.

It was alleged that Sruthi was abducted by Anees Hameed, who forcefully converted her to Islam and married her under religious customs.

On October 10 while hearing Hadiya&#39;s case, the High Court gave the same verdict that &#39;all inter-religious marriages cannot be termed love jihad&#39;.

Earlier on October 7, the Kerala Government told the Supreme Court that an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was not needed in the case as the state police was efficient enough to carry out the inquiry.

In an affidavit, the state government informed the apex court that the state police is competent enough to investigate such crimes.&nbsp;

He said the incidents of naxalism, terrorism and extremism have also seen a downward trend in the last three years.

We will accept challenges and in the past three years incident of naxalism, terrorism and extremism have seen a downward trend,&quot; he said.

On Monday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested seven Separatists over money laundering charges, for funding terror in the Kashmir Valley.

Yesterday, all seven separatist leaders - Altaf Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehraj Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Naeem Khan and Bitta Karate - have been sent to 10-day NIA custody.

The accused have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Six of them were arrested from Srinagar, while Bitta Karate was arrested from New Delhi.

The NIA visited Srinagar in May to probe the alleged funding by Pakistan for illegal activities in Kashmir, and questioned several separatist leaders on the issue of raising, collecting and transferring funds via the Hawala route and other channels to fund terror activities in Kashmir.

The NIA sleuths specifically questioned separatist leaders Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate and Gazi Javed Baba at that time.

The NIA is said to be probing all aspects of funding to separatist leaders and how they reportedly used these funds to fuel unrest in the Kashmir Valley.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday&nbsp;quizzed three Kashmiri separatists in connection with its probe into the role of Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) founder Hafiz Saeed and hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani in subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NIA team, headed by the Additional Director General, had asked Nayeem Khan, Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karate and Gazi Javed Baba to appear before it over an expose on a television channel where they had claimed they received&nbsp;funds from Pakistan.

After their&nbsp;initial reluctance, the three separatists fell in line and were questioned separately on Friday by the team of NIA, which named them in its Preliminary Enquiry (PE), which precedes the filing of a case.

Besides the three separatists, the NIA has also named Hafiz Saeed and Syed Geelani in the preliminary enquiry.

Nayeem Khan, who was suspended by Geelani from Hurriyat today, had purportedly confessed&nbsp;to receiving money from Pakistan-based terror groups in a sting operation on television.

He later held a press conference,&nbsp;claiming&nbsp;the video was &quot;doctored&quot; and challenged that the&nbsp;channel&nbsp;run his full video instead.

&quot;The video is doctored, simulated and a collage of bits and pieces. It does not have a shred of credibility. The agenda of Indian media is to defame the Kashmir struggle and pro-freedom leadership,&quot; he said.

Geelani suspended Nayeem Khan&#39;s National Front from the basic membership of the Hurriyat Conference until the clarification of all the related issues comes to fore and the truth comes out, a spokesman for the hardline leader said.

The NIA took cognisance of the news item related to a recording of conversations between a TV reporter and leaders of separatist groups operating in the Kashmir Valley.&nbsp;

In its preliminary enquiry, the NIA&nbsp;alleged that the separatists were receiving funds from LeT chief&nbsp;Hafiz Saeed to carry out subversive activities in Kashmir, including pelting security forces with stones, damaging public property and burning schools and other government establishments.

The NIA team will gather evidence collected by the Jammu and Kashmir Police about the burning of schools as Khan had claimed that the educational institutions were targeted as per the plans hatched from across the border.

&nbsp;The schools were targeted last year after banned Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter with security forces on July 8.
