A parliamentary report in Japan has revealed that two nine-year-old children were among the 25,000 people forced to undergo sterilisation, under the nation's post-World War Two eugenics law.

<h2>Report's findings</h2>

A probe into the law, which was in effect from 1948 to 1996, found that two nine-year-old kids — a boy and a girl — were among those sterilised.&nbsp;

The nine-year-olds as per Japan's public broadcaster NHK, were the youngest victims of the law. The boy was sterilised in the 1960s and the girl underwent the procedure in the 1970s.&nbsp;

As per the parliamentary report, most patients were led to believe that they were undergoing treatment for an illness like anaemia or removal of the appendix. Around 65 per cent of the procedures carried out in almost five decades were without consent.&nbsp;

It also found that the law had even set sterilisation as a condition for marriage and/or admission at welfare facilities. The probe into the law also found reported cases of radiation exposure and uterus removal.

The 1,400-page long study has been long awaited. Investigation into the law began in June 2020 under a law aimed at providing victims with some relief. The 2019 legislation also promised victims state compensation worth ¥3.2 million ($22,000). Victims have, however, sued the country for a higher compensation.

<h2>Japan's eugenics law</h2>

The contentious law was in place for 48 years. Under it, people were at times forced to undergo operations to prevent them from having children deemed "inferior".&nbsp;

As per Japan Times, most of these people had intellectual disabilities, mental illness or hereditary disorders.

The parliamentary report further states that as per a high school textbook from 1975, using the eugenics law, the government was making efforts for the "country's eugenics to improve and enhance the genetic predisposition of the entire public."

Japan Times reports that the legislation which was initiated by lawmakers was adopted unanimously. Apart from eugenics, it was also aimed at curbing Japan's population increase amid food shortages after World War II.

<h2>No longer 'shroud'&nbsp;issue in darkness</h2>

Referring to findings in the Diet (Japan parliament) report, an 80-year-old victim of forced sterilisation said it showed the government "had been doing terrible things by deceiving children."

The victim, who goes by the pseudonym Saburo Kita, was forced to undergo the procedure at the young age of 14 years. Kita said, "I would like the state not to shroud the issue in darkness, but take our sufferings seriously soon."&nbsp;

The 1951 Refugee Convention, adopted during World War II, provides an internationally recognised definition of a refugee and highlights the legal protection, rights, and assistance a refugee is entitled to.

World Refugee Day holds immense importance across the world as it brings global attention to the plights and challenges faced by refugees.&nbsp;

Last week, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) chief Filippino Grandi said in a statement that a record 100 million people across the world have been forcibly displaced. The numbers, which earlier stood at 108.4 million, increased mostly because of the ongoing conflict in Sudan.&nbsp;

The UN refugee agency stated that the ongoing invasion of Russia in Ukraine also contributed to the numbers.&nbsp;

Revealing data for 2022, Grandi said that globally, 35.4 million refugees fled abroad and some 62.5 million were displaced internally.

Fugitive cryptocurrency entrepreneur Do Kwon has been found guilty of possessing forged documents by a Montenegro court. Kwon, the founder of Terraform, was arrested at an airport in Montenegro with fake passports. He is still awaiting trial for another charge related to his possible extradition.&nbsp;

<h2>Fake passport and prison sentence</h2>

As per AFP, in a statement, the court said that Kwon and his travel companion were "guilty because they used a fake passport" from Costa Rica at the airport. Additionally, the court revealed that the duo had Belgium passports under different names in their possession.

Kwon has been sentenced to four months in prison, and his attorney stated that there were no immediate plans to appeal the ruling.

This verdict follows a recent decision by the court to extend their custody for six months for the extradition charge.&nbsp;

Both Seoul and Washington are seeking Kwon's extradition due to his alleged involvement in fraud that led to his company's collapse, wiping out about $40 billion of investors' money and causing turbulence in global crypto markets.

However, Montenegro does not have extradition treaties with the US or South Korea, complicating the process of bringing Kwon to justice in those countries.

<h2>On the run</h2>

Kwon, whose real name is Kwon Do-hyung, had been on the run for several months after fleeing South Korea and Singapore before his company's crash in May the previous year.&nbsp;

South Korean prosecutors had requested Interpol to issue a red notice for Kwon's arrest, and his passport was revoked.

<h2>Kwon and Montenegro</h2>

Since his arrest in Montenegro, Kwon has become a subject of intrigue in the country's politically divided landscape.&nbsp;

AFP reports that during the lead-up to parliamentary elections, controversy arose when interim Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic and his allies accused Milojko Spajic, the leader of Europe Now, of having connections with Kwon.&nbsp;

Political analysts speculate that these allegations may have affected political party Europe Now's performance in the polls, as they secured around a quarter of the votes and are currently working on forming a coalition.

<h2>'Stablecoin' TerraUSD&nbsp;</h2>

Kwon's TerraUSD was promoted as a "stablecoin," typically pegged to stable assets like the US dollar to minimise price fluctuations.&nbsp;

In recent days, cryptocurrencies have faced increased scrutiny from regulators due to controversies, including the collapse of the FTX exchange.&nbsp;

The Singapore Police at Changi Airport introduced Robocop, or Robot Police, after more than five years of trials to make any lawbreaker think twice.&nbsp;

Two robots, almost seven feet tall each with fully extended 360-degree vision, have been patrolling the airport since April this year, which adds to the country's "police presence," "extra eyes on the ground," and add to their technological arsenal.

Each robot comes with in-built speakers that broadcast live audio messages and a rear LCD panel that displays visual messages. The robots roughly stand 5.5 feet tall and can have extendable masks that can take them up to 7.5 feet tall.&nbsp;

Experts say they are just the first such robots, and the force on Friday said that they now plan to deploy across the Southeast Asian city-state.&nbsp;

Lim Ke Wei, superintendent and operations head, said, "The integration of robotics enhances the operational efficiency and capabilities of our frontline officers, enabling them to be more effective in their duties."

When asked how they work, the officials said that the robots are able to enforce cordons and warn bystanders using their blinkers, sirens, and speakers while waiting for a human officer to arrive at the place. However, if the public wishes to&nbsp;directly communicate with the force they can do it by just pushing a button on the robot's front.&nbsp;

'It was hard to not notice'

Samwell Swant, an American traveller who was present at the airport, told CNN that when he passed through terminal 4 to catch a recent flight to Vietnam, he saw the robots. "It was certainly a sight – like something out of a movie or Black Mirror. It was hard not to notice."

He added that he approached the robot curiously to get a closer look and saw it light up as a camera extended out.

"ChatCPT...AI music...robots... Soon machines will take over the world, and these security robots definitely look like they mean business. &nbsp;

The Singapore Police at Changi Airport introduced Robocop, or Robot Police, after more than five years of trials to make any lawbreaker think twice. Two robots, almost seven feet tall each with fully extended 360-degree vision, have been patrolling the airport since April this year, which adds to the country's "police presence," "extra eyes on the ground," and add to their technological arsenal. Each robot comes with in-built speakers that broadcast live audio messages and a rear LCD panel that displays visual messages. The robots roughly stand 5.5 feet tall and can have extendable masks that can take them up to 7.5 feet tall. Experts say they are just the first such robots, and the force on Friday said that they now plan to deploy across the Southeast Asian city-state. Lim Ke Wei, superintendent and operations head, said, "The integration of robotics enhances the operational efficiency and capabilities of our frontline officers, enabling them to be more effective in their duties." When asked how they work, the officials said that the robots are able to enforce cordons and warn bystanders using their blinkers, sirens, and speakers while waiting for a human officer to arrive at the place. However, if the public wishes to directly communicate with the force they can do it by just pushing a button on the robot's front. 'It was hard to not notice' Samwell Swant, an American traveller who was present at the airport, told CNN that when he passed through terminal 4 to catch a recent flight to Vietnam, he saw the robots. "It was certainly a sight – like something out of a movie or Black Mirror. It was hard not to notice." He added that he approached the robot curiously to get a closer look and saw it light up as a camera extended out. "ChatCPT...AI music...robots... Soon machines will take over the world, and these security robots definitely look like they mean business. Ugandan police said Monday that 20 people had been arrested for suspected collaboration with the notorious militia group blamed for last week's grisly attack on a school near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

He said in a separate statement that those arrested included the head teacher and the director of the Lhubiriha Secondary School in Mpondwe, western Uganda, which came under attack late on Friday.

World Music Day 2023: Also known as the Fete de la Musique, is an annual day to celebrate music across the world. Every year on June 21, we celebrate World Music Day. It is dedicated to promoting the art of music and encouraging participation among people. The day emphasises the diversity of musical expression worldwide. This day embraces all genres of music, including classical, hip-hop, and even jazz. Here's everything you need to know about World Music Day 2023:

World Music Day 2023: Date and History

Every year on June 21, the world celebrates World Music Day to celebrate the art. The day first originated in France in 1982. Back then, the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, 1981, conceived the idea of celebrating a day dedicated to music.&nbsp;

However, as cited by the Hindustan Times, another theory suggests that Joel Cohen in 1976 proposed the idea of an all-night music celebration to mark the beginning of the summer solstice, and since then the world has celebrated Music Day.&nbsp;

World Music Day 2023: Significance

World Music Day aims to make music an art form that is more consumed by younger generations. The day is also celebrated to make the space more inclusive, to urge people to explore the various genres of music, and to be welcomed by the new generation.&nbsp;

The best thing about World Music Day is that most of the concerts are conducted for free, and anyone can become a part of them.

World Music Day 2023: Theme&nbsp;

This year's theme has not yet been announced. But you can familiarise yourself with the theme of the previous year, 2022, "Music at the Intersections."

World Music Day 2023: Quotes and Wishes

I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music.- Billy Joel

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.- Bob Marley

Music is always changing and the changes are unpredictable.- Billy Sheehan

"May the sound of music trasport you to a world of puire bliss and your passion for the art of melodies. Happy World Music Day!"

"Sending you wishes on World Music Day. May you find passion and joy for the language of music!"

"When you are happy, you want to listen to songs with energy. You look for beats and rhythms but when you are sad, you look for the meaning of lyrics. There is music for every mood and every soul. A very Happy World Music Day to you!"

As per The Express Tribune, the country's financial crisis and the non-payment of salaries by Pakistan Railways have caused significant distress among the employees.&nbsp;

Pakistan Railways Employees (PREM) Union (CBA) staged a protest at the diesel engine shed in Lahore to express their dissatisfaction with the delay in salary payments, particularly with Eid-ul-Adha approaching soon.&nbsp;

"Only a few days are left until Eid-ul-Adha," said the protestors.
