Social media platform TikTok has been in the middle of a lot of controversies due to allegations of data breaches and the involvement of the Chinese government in tracking user data. However, a new survey shows that it has not changed its popularity in the United States – especially among the youth. The survey conducted by the Pew Research Center found that around one-third of TikTok users get their consumption of news from the platform. Most of these users were aged under 30 years but the percentage of users between 30-49 years who get their news from TikTok has grown quite a bit. The growth can also be seen in people in the age group of 50-64 years where the number has gone up by three per cent. It is a surprising trend for a social media platform that is well-known for dance videos and generally light-hearted user-generated content. However, with young people in the US spending a lot of time online, it has turned into an educational source for them when it comes to news.
The Spanish city of Madrid and its streets had an unexpected sight on Sunday. Instead of the usual crowd of people and cars, hundreds of sheep flocked the streets, in a continuation of an age-old tradition.

As the bells tolled around the neck of the fluffy animal and provided a noisy soundtrack, the shepherds guided them to the southern pastures of the country for grazing.

Locals and tourists lined around the city to observe the spectacle. "It was crazy that there were so many sheep, I've never seen anything like it. It was a great way to learn about Spanish history and Spanish culture," said one of the tourists.

Notably, the Spanish capital lies in the middle of an ancient migration route that the shepherds took ahead of the cold, winter months. Continuing the tradition is a way for the locals to pay their respects to the area's culture and heritage.

In an official and rather fun ceremony between the city mayor and the chief herdsmen, a nominal fee is paid in exchange for the safe passage of the animals. In olden times, 50 coins per thousand heads of livestock was set as the usual fare for the passage of the animals. At the time, the livestock would have passed through a quiet route but today it passes in front of some of the busiest areas of Madrid viz. Plaza Mayor and Madrid main square.
In a rare discovery, Swedish maritime archaeologists have found the wreck of Applet, the long-lost sister ship of Vasa, a 17th-century warship.

The discovery has elated the archaeologists who believe that Applet could provide more answers regarding the history of Swedish ship making.

“With Applet, we can add another key piece of the puzzle in the development of Swedish shipbuilding,” said Jim Hansson, a maritime archaeologist at the Swedish Museum of Wrecks.

Another archeologist added the discovery of the ship will "help us understand how the large warships evolved, from the unstable Vasa to seaworthy behemoths that could control the Baltic Sea."

According to the museum, the 225-foot Vasa sunk on its maiden voyage in 1628. The shipbuilder who built Vasa also constructed Applet which was launched a year later.

The archeologists found that the ship had an uncanny resemblance to Vasa. Although most of the ship had been destroyed, the hull was preserved up to the ground deck and parts that had tapered off to the ground showed gunports on two levels.

"Our pulses raced when we saw how similar the wreck was to Vasa," added Hansson.

Notably, Vasa was salvaged from the sea bed in 1961 and has been on display at the Vasa Museum in Stockholm ever since.
