The necessary legislation was presented by the Hungarian government in July, but the two bills have not yet been introduced for discussion and approval in the parliament.

Opposition parties have accused Orban's party of stalling by refusing to put the issue to a vote in parliament, where the Fidesz party holds a two-thirds majority. The socialist party called the move "incomprehensible and unjustified" while the Momentum party condemned the government of "blackmailing" the European Union.

PM Victor Orban says Hungary will back Finland and Sweden's NATO bid next year

The US Department of Justice has asked Mike Pence, former vice president to testify in its investigation of former US President Donald Trump's attempt to overturn 2020 presidential election results.

As per media reports, Pence in August said that he'll consider the request to appear as a witness as it's a criminal investigation. Later, during his interview with CBS News last week, the former vice president accused the January 06 committee of being "partisan." When asked, whether he'll voluntarily testify for the investigation, he said, "I'm closing door on that."

The US Attorney General Merrick Garland last week has named a special counsel to overlook the two federal investigations against Trump. One will focus on his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential results, and US capitol attack and the other one will focus on government documents seized during an FBI raid at his Mar-a-Lago residence, AFP reported.

The special counsel will define whether the former US president will face any charges.

During this, Pence's testimony might help to certify Trump's attempts on Biden's 2021 win.

On the suspicion that they were purchasing votes for China in Saturday's island-wide election, Taiwanese authorities conducted searches and interrogated a number of individuals. According to a report from Taiwan's semi-official Central News Agency, police officials used warrants obtained under the Anti-Infiltration Act, which was approved in late 2019 and prohibits "foreign hostile forces" from meddling in elections, to search four sites and jail three people, as reported by Bloomberg.

As per Central News Agency (CNA), which gets backing from the Taiwanese government, prosecutors claimed that evidence recovered during a raid earlier this month connected to the same organisation showed that cash from China was being channelled to candidates.

On Thursday (Nov 24), Honduran President Xiomara Castro proclaimed a national security emergency to tackle the escalating number of extortion crimes by criminal gang groups.

In a televised address, the socialist president unveiled a new strategy to fight extortion that plagues the country.

Castro's proposed measures would permit the suspension of several constitutional rights in regions where criminal activity prevails. The measures went into effect on the same day, but the authority still needs to authorise the suspension of fundamental rights. The proclamation also permits the Honduran government to utilise public funds to combat the criminal gangs involved in kidnapping and drug trafficking.

The announcement comes after pressure from businessmen, transportation drivers, and NGOs who claim that recent months have seen an increase in extortion, most by the Mara Salvatrucha MS-13 and Mara Barrio 18 gangs.

The gangs have promised to not harm anyone who pays the so-called "war tax." People who have been able to pay taxes were out of the terror while individuals who failed to do that were killed.

As per the Association for a More Just Society, a non-governmental group that focuses, this extortion nets the gang a yearly income of $737 million or 3 per cent of the nation's GDP.

Speaking to AFP, the group's political spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka added that "Normally when there is a ceasefire it is between the two warring sides."

He said that the rebels established a "unilateral ceasefire" in April and claimed that as per him it was still in effect.

In a declaration issued by the leaders of the African nations of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, and Angola, along with former Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta said that M23 has to comply with the ceasefire and also withdraw from its occupied territories. It warned that if the group fails to do this, it will face intervention by regional forces.

Of the 3.16 million respondents to an informal Twitter poll by the new chief twit, about 72.4 per cent said that the social media platform should let back in users whose accounts were suspended as long as no laws were broken or "egregious spam" wasn't committed.

On Thursday, Twitter's new owner Musk posted the poll asking his 118 million followers and the public "Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam?".
