Former US President Donald Trump has been sued for defamation a second time. On Thursday former Elle magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll accused him of lying by denying that he had raped her 27 years back.

The new rule gives victims of sexual assault a year to file a lawsuit against their alleged abusers, even if the incident took place in the past and the statute of limitations has run out. Survivors can sue their alleged abusers starting Thanksgiving Day (November 24th).

Reuters reports that in her complaint, Carroll has also charged Trump with battery in an alleged encounter at the Bergdorf Goodman store in Manhattan.

She claimed that Trump's battery left her with psychological damage, unable to maintain a romantic relationship, which she used as evidence for her battery claim.

This is Carroll's second defamation case against Trump, the first one was filed in 2019 after the billionaire initially denied the accusation.

Donald Trump has repeatedly denied raping Carroll or even knowing her back then. He dismissed the accusation saying "she's not my type". He also took to his social media platform 'Truth Social' and called the writer's claims lies and "hoax".

Both parties are awaiting the outcome of an appeals court case that will address Trump's claim that his remarks as president rendered him immune from Carroll's initial lawsuit.

Carroll's first complaint risks getting dismissed if judges decided that the United States government, which enjoys sovereign immunity from defamation charges, could be used in place of Trump as a defendant.

However, even if the dismissal were to happen it would not affect her latest complaint as having left the White House in January 2021, Trump is now a private citizen.

The first lawsuit is due to go to trial on February 6, 2023, before US District Judge Lewis Kaplan in Manhattan, but as per Reuters, this is likely to be postponed due to the appeals process.

Following a series of airstrikes by Iran and Turkey against opposition organisations in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region, Baghdad announced on Wednesday that it will redeploy federal troops along its borders with the two nations.

In a statement following a government security meeting presided over by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, the nation said that authorities had decided to "establish a plan to redeploy Iraqi border guards... along the border with Iran and Turkey".

According to the statement, the effort will be carried out "in coordination with the government of the Kurdistan region and the peshmerga ministry," referring to the Kurdish regional forces.

AFP reports that the announcement appears to be a response to Iran, which had earlier this week expressed hope that the Iraqi government would deploy "border guards at the common border so that Iran does not have to take other deterrent measures to repel threats."

Tehran has blamed "outside powers and exiled Kurdish groups" for stoking the wave of protests.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the foreign minister of Iran, issued a warning earlier in the day, saying that the country would continue to take action against foreign "threats". He added that Tehran's forces would continue operations inside Iraq's Kurdistan until Baghdad's national forces were deployed on the border and "we would no longer need to act to defend our territorial integrity."

The World Health Organization (WHO) and US Health agency, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warned on Wednesday that the world now faces an impending threat of measles spreading in numerous locations internationally due to the COVID-19 pandemic's ongoing impact on vaccine coverage and impaired disease surveillance.

As per a joint report issued by the two organisations, a record 40 million children missed a vaccination dose for measles in the year 2021. It chalks this up to hurdles created by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Talking to Reuters, Patrick O'Connor, World Health Organization's measles lead said that while compared to previous years the number of measles cases has not gone up dramatically, the time to act is now.

"We are at a crossroads," he remarked, adding that the next 12-24 months are going to be very challenging, as the world tries to mitigate the situation.

He said that even though there are growing immunity gaps, there have not yet been an overwhelming number of cases. As per him, this may be due to a combination of factors including the cyclical nature of the disease and lingering social isolation policies.

O'Connor warned that this could change quickly given the highly contagious nature of the illness.

He further noted that since the beginning of 2022, the number of "large disruptive outbreaks" had increased, climbing from 19 to over 30 by September. He added that he was especially concerned about certain regions of sub-Saharan Africa.

Measles is one of the most contagious human viruses, although it is nearly fully preventable with immunisation. Nevertheless, to stop outbreaks among communities, there must be 95 per cent vaccination coverage.

Georgia's controversial LIFE abortion ban, which forbids abortions after around six weeks of pregnancy, has been reinstated by the state's Supreme court. The court has put on hold a lower court's overturning the ban as it considers an appeal by the state attorney general's office.

It not only upheld the state's ban on abortion but also rejected the abortion sector's demand for a 24-hour notice period prior to the ban's restoration.

The one-page decision did not provide any justification for granting the state's request to reinstate the ban.

In the judgement, the court said that "the state of Georgia’s emergency petition … seeking a stay of the order of the superior court of Fulton county in the above-styled action is hereby granted."

"To the extent the state also seeks an 'administrative stay,' that motion is dismissed as moot," it added.

The so-called LIFE legislation has been reinstated barely one week after the Fulton County Superior Court declared it to be unconstitutional and invalidated it.

On November 15, Fulton county superior court judge Robert McBurney ruled that the state ban was invalid.

According to the verdict, the prohibition was unconstitutional since, at the time it was enacted in 2019, US supreme court precedent under Roe v. Wade and another ruling permitted abortions for pregnancies that have crossed the six-week mark.

McBurney in his ruling wrote that the Act may one day "become the law of Georgia", however that can happen "only after our legislature determines in the sharp glare of public attention that will undoubtedly and properly attend such an important and consequential debate whether the rights of unborn children justify such a restriction on women’s right to bodily autonomy and privacy."

Learning this, the mother was shattered.

"The critically injured patient I had just attended to was my own flesh and blood. My only child. My mini me. My daughter, Montana," she wrote to her family and friends.

She expressed her gratitude for their 17 years together, the Guardian reported.

Canadian paramedic mother unknowingly treated her teenage daughter in fatal car accident

Aaftab Poonawala had threatened to kill her and dismember her body, according to a police complaint made in the western Indian city of Mumbai in 2020 by Shraddha Walkar, who was reportedly murdered by her partner Poonawala in May and had her body dismembered and thrown in several locations in the capital city of Delhi.

According to Maharashtra police officials, Walkar submitted the complaint to the Tullinj Police Station.

The Delhi Police declined to comment on whether the letter was included in the case files as supporting documentation in the investigation into Walkar's murder.

Walkar said in the complaint dated November 23, 2020, that Poonawala had been mistreating her, hitting her, and even trying to strangle her on the day she wrote the letter.

“...He scares and blackmails me that he will kill me, cut me up in pieces and throw me away. It’s been 6 months that he has been hitting me but I did not have the guts to go to the police because he would threaten to kill me,” she wrote.

Poonawala's parents visited them on the weekends, and according to Shraddha, they were aware that he beats Walkar. She did not want to continue living with him, despite the fact that they were planning to get married soon, according to Walkar's letter.

Although Walkar reported Poonawala to the police, she chose not to press the matter by registering an FIR. She told her manager about the physical assault while she was employed at a shop of sporting goods, the report stated.

A relative of one of Shraddha's coworkers claimed to have met BJP member Rahul Roy at the time, and the two had taken Walkar to the Tullinj Police Station to file a report.
