<p>A stunning image of a blazing cosmic hourglass filled with bright orange and blue dust and hiding a very young star, or protostar, was captured by NASA’s James Webb Telescope.&nbsp;The image captured by Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) reveals the once-hidden features of the protostar within the dark cloud L1527 and provides insight into the beginnings of a new star, NASA said.</p>

<p>The protostar is located in the Taurus molecular cloud, home to hundreds of nearly formed stars, which is around 430 light years from Earth.</p>

<p>The photo shows a protostar hidden from view within the “neck” of this hourglass shape. An edge-on protoplanetary disk is seen as a dark line across the middle of the neck. Light from the protostar leaks above and below this disk, illuminating cavities within the surrounding gas and dust.</p>

<p>The celestial body, which contains the protostar and its cloud and is named L1527, is only about 100,000 years old and unable to generate its own energy through nuclear fusion of hydrogen, an essential characteristic of stars.</p>

<p>A black disk that surrounds the protostar, which is around the size of our solar system, will feed material to the celestial body until it eventually reaches "the threshold for nuclear fusion to begin," NASA in the statement said.</p>

<p>"Ultimately, this view of L1527 provides a window into what our Sun and the solar system looked like in their infancy," it added.</p>

<p>Built at a cost of $10 billion, Webb is the most powerful space telescope ever built, and has been in operation since July.</p>

<p>One galaxy is found to have formed 350 million years after the big bang and&nbsp;the other 450 million years after that. Naidu also said that the observations&nbsp;will be more clear in the infrared before claiming Webb as the new record-holder. At a NASA conference, some researchers and astronomers have even reported that they have found galaxies even closer to the creation of the universe, that is about 13.8 billion years ago, but they are yet to be verified.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Naidu and his team said if these findings by the James Webb telescope are verified, then it&nbsp;<br />
“will prove highly successful in pushing the cosmic frontier all the way to the brink of the big bang”.</p>

<p>The data and observations by the James Webb telescope also revealed that there are&nbsp;many more distant galaxies out there, which once discovered can be of great help too&nbsp;in bringing astronomers and researchers closer to understanding the origin of the universe.&nbsp;<br />

<p>As reported by WION extensively, the Artemis programme, named after the sister of Apollo in Greek mythology, is NASA's successor to the Apollo lunar missions from 50 years ago and will pave way for future manned missions to the Moon and beyond.</p>

<p>After two failed attempts, NASA will take another go at launching its new mega Moon rocket mission Artemis 1 on Wednesday.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The first launch of the Space Launch System rocket which is touted as the "most powerful ever designed by NASA" will happen from Florida and will take place on Wednesday at 1:04 am local time (0604 GMT). The possible launch window as per AFP is of two hours.</p>

NASA prepares for third attempt at launching its mega Moon rocket Artemis 1

<p>After Hurricane Nicole's passage went away from Florida, US space agency NASA announced that it will resume its long-delayed uncrewed mission to the Moon as scheduled for next Wednesday at 01:04 local time (0604 GMT).&nbsp;</p>

If the mission goes as per plan, it will probably last for 25 days and a half days before the capsule returns on December 11 in the Pacific, AFP reported.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Jim Free, NASA's senior official who&nbsp;looks after the&nbsp;exploration system said that it still needs to conduct a few checks to ensure a smooth mission. Free, said that two backup launch dates have been set for November 19 and November 25 in case they are required.</p>

<p>NASA's unmanned Moon mission Artemis-1 has once again been delayed due to a hurricane, days after returning to the launch pad after undergoing repairs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA in a statement released said it was postponing the November 8 launch until November 16 due to tropical storm 'Nicole' which is expected to make landfall on the Florida coast as a 'Category 1' hurricane.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Based on expected weather conditions and options to roll back ahead of the storm, the agency determined Sunday evening the safest option for the launch hardware was to keep the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft secured at the pad," said the agency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added that the engineering team had powered down the Orion spacecraft, SLS core stage, interim cryogenic propulsion stage, and boosters to prepare for the impending storm.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The next window opens at 6:04 AM on November 16 and will be available for two hours. To err on the side of caution, the agency has also kept November 19 as the next date for the launch.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA's 'Lunar Flashlight' will use a laser which it will shine of the surface of the Moon to detect water. This satellite orbit the Moon at a farthest distance of 70,000 km from the surface. While at its closest, the staellite will be just 15 km away from the lunar surface.</p>

<p>“The satellite will be put on a trajectory that will take about three months to reach its science orbit. Then Lunar Flashlight will try to find water ice on the surface of the Moon in places that nobody else has been able to look at,” John Baker, the mission’s project manager, said in a statement.</p>

<p>In 2021, NASA's Lucy probe was launched. It is the first mission to the two swarms of space rocks known as the Jupiter Trojan asteroids, which orbit the enormous planet alongside it.</p>

<p>According to the UN Environment Programme, this indicates that a significant reduction in emissions could reduce projected global warming by several tenths of a degree Celsius by the middle of the century, preserving the Paris Agreement goal of limiting the Earth's average temperature increase to 1.5C. <p>NASA has shared an image of aftermath of a supernova. The image is a resplendent mosaic of colours with a backdrop of midnight-black-Space where thousands of stars are shining brightly.</p>

<p>The image has been clicked by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory telescope. The space agency has posted it on its Instagram handle.</p>

<p>"This composite image shows the remains of a supernova, around 9,000 light-years from Earth, in three bands of X-ray light detected by @NASAChandraXRay, with low energy X-rays in red, medium in green, and the highest in blue," NASA says in its post.</p>

<p>"Image description: Blank space as black as #Midnight is dotted with tiny white stars across the image. A swirling labyrinth of colours of blue, green, yellow, purple, and red makes up the center of the photo surrounding the neutron star in bright blue," NASA wrote.</p>

<p>The 16-member panel, convened with little fanfare, will focus its inquiry entirely on unclassified sightings and other data collected from civilian government and commercial sectors, according to NASA.</p>

<p>The team's inquiry is separate from a newly formalized Pentagon-based investigation of unidentified aerial phenomena, or UAPs, reported by military aviators and analyzed by US&nbsp;defense and intelligence officials.</p>

<p>The term UFO is associated with extraterrestrial life, flying saucers and so on. The term is being replaced by 'UAP' in US government parlance.</p>

<p>Announcing the formation of its panel in June, NASA said: "There is no evidence UAPs are extraterrestrial in origin."</p>

<p>A Pentagon report issued a year earlier likewise found insufficient data to determine the nature of more than 140 credible sightings documented by military observers since 2004, mostly Navy personnel.</p>

<p>Senior defense and intelligence officials testified before Congress five months ago that the list of cataloged UAP sightings had since grown to 400 but many remain beyond explanation, either as advanced earthly technologies, atmospherics or something alien.</p>

<p><meta name="uuid" content="uuidwSU97jjHczle" /><meta charset="utf-8" />NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft that deliberately crashed into an asteroid managed to change the orbit of the space rock, NASA said on Tuesday, announcing the results of the test.</p>

<p>"Analysis of data obtained over the past two weeks by NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) investigation team shows the spacecraft's kinetic impact with its target asteroid, Dimorphos, successfully altered the asteroid’s orbit," said the premier space agency in a statement.</p>

<p>NASA also released a series of satellite-acquired images, radar images amongst other indicators to show that the harmless asteroid, millions of miles away from the Earth was slotted away from its original orbit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It added that the orbital period of the asteroid was shortened by 32 minutes which was a stellar success as scientists had predicted the impact to shorten the orbital path by 10 minutes. Even a change of 73 seconds would have been considered a success.</p>

<p>"Prior to DART’s impact, it took Dimorphos 11 hours and 55 minutes to orbit its larger parent asteroid, Didymos," said NASA, adding the impact shortened the&nbsp;"11 hour and 55-minute orbit to 11 hours and 23 minutes."</p>

<p>Meanwhile, NASA chief Bill Nelson termed the entire mission a watershed moment for the planet.</p>

<p>"This is a watershed moment for planetary defense and a watershed moment for humanity. It felt like a movie plot, but this was not Hollywood."</p>

<p>Last month, the James Webb and Hubble telescopes had also revealed the first images of the asteroid being plowed by the spacecraft.</p>

<p>According to a joint statement from the European Space Agency, James Webb and Hubble, an image taken by James Webb's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) four hours after impact shows "plumes of material appearing as wisps streaming away from the centre of where the impact took place".&nbsp;</p>
