Earlier this week, operations had to be temporarily halted at the Mumbai airport due to the cyclone.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the airline claimed the pilot could not land the plane due to bad weather and had to be diverted, the passengers asserted that the pilot aborted two attempts in Mumbai and another in Udaipur before getting the plane safely on the tarmac.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Flight Indigo 6E 2441 (Lko to Mumbai) not able to land in Mumbai due to poor management of Indigo Team. There are chances either Airbus malfunctioned or pilot not able to handle…Intervention needed," tweeted one passenger.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, IndiGo said the pilot was replaced, not due to pressure from the passengers but because he was fatigued.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“Due to bad weather, the pilot could not land in Mumbai and decided to go to Udaipur… After landing in Udaipur, he said he was fatigued and hence asked for crew replacement. This took some time and the flight left after 6 pm.”</p>

<p>The Air India plane, which had taken off from the Henri Coanda International Airport, Bucharest, this afternoon, brought home 219 passengers, mostly students.</p>

<p>A large number of relatives of homebound passengers were present at the arrival concourse of the Mumbai airport to receive their loved ones.</p>

<p>Upon receiving the students, Goyal said, “Glad to see the smiles on the faces of Indians safely evacuated from Ukraine at the Mumbai airport.”</p>

<p>The minister asked the passengers to speak to their friends stranded in Ukraine and assure them not to worry.</p>

Amid rising COVID-19 cases, domestic flight services resume after two months

<p>Indian skies will open up for domestic passenger flights from Monday after a gap of two months even as Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu expressed reluctance to deal with so many incoming passengers amid the coronavirus pandemic.</p>

<p>The above mentioned states are home to some of the busiest airports in terms of passenger traffic.</p>

<p>Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Twitter on Sunday that it is "extremely ill-advised" to reopen airports in red zones. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she would urge the Centre to postpone the resumption of domestic flight services at Kolkata and Bagdogra airports by a few days.</p>

<p>The confusion, however, seemed to near an end as it was announced that the Mumbai airport would deal with only 50 domestic flights per day from Monday while the Kolkata and Bagdogra airports in West Bengal will handle domestic services from May 28. They will each handle only 20 flights per day.</p>

<p>The Hyderabad airport will deal with only 30 domestic flights per day from Monday, and there will be no domestic services at the Vijaywada and the Vizag airports on Monday, officials said.</p>

<p>The first flight on Monday is scheduled to depart from Mumbai for Patna at 4.20 AM. Similarly, the first flight from Delhi airport would depart for Kolkata at 4.30 AM. Both flights are from IndiGo airline.</p>

<p>The government last week announced the resumption of domestic flight services from May 25 under specific rules and guidelines like a cap on ticket pricing, wearing of face masks by passengers, no food served onboard planes and making available details of medical conditions by travellers through Aarogya Setu app or by filling up of a self-declaration form.</p>

<p>The government's decision came as the aviation sector was reeling under severe stress triggered by the coronavirus lockdown that began on March 25.</p>

<p>However, many states expressed serious reservations about the Centre's decision to start flight services. Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, Punjab, Assam and Andhra Pradesh have announced their respective quarantine measures for passengers arriving at their airports.</p>

<p>Some states decided to put passengers on mandatory institutional quarantine while several others talked about putting them under home quarantine.</p>

<p>Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday questioned the need for quarantine if a passenger is shown green status in Aarogya Setu app. The green status signifies that a passenger is safe.</p>

<p>However, as the states remained adamant on the matter, the central government is trying to create coherence in quarantine rules for flyers. Bookings have been opened for around 1,050 domestic flights that will operate on Monday.</p>

<p>The Uttar Pradesh government said air travellers to the state would be home quarantined for 14 days unless they are staying for less than a week or if they clear the coronavirus test earlier. Passengers will have to follow the laid-down home quarantine protocol.</p>

<p>They can get themselves tested for the virus on the sixth day from their arrival and end their quarantine if the results come out negative</p>

<p>The Jammu and Kashmir government said on Saturday that all incoming passengers will have to undergo "administrative quarantine" for a fortnight.</p>

<p>Similarly, the Kerala government said on Friday that all flyers will be put into 14 days' home quarantine and that it has made an exception for those coming for business purposes or for a short duration.</p>

<p>Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had said all incoming passengers will be put in home quarantine for 14 days while the Bihar government said that travellers will be put on "paid quarantine" for the same period.</p>

<p>Passengers coming to Andhra Pradesh would be put under home quarantine, said the state government, adding that once their test results for COVID-19 come negative, they will be relieved from quarantine.</p>

<p>The Assam government on Friday said it will be putting flyers on a 14-day quarantine. The passengers might be distributed equally in home quarantine and government quarantine, it clarified.</p>

<p>Karnataka government's health ministry made it clear said that anyone coming from states where there is "high prevalence" of COVID-19 will be kept in institutional quarantine for seven days and if tested COVID-negative, the passenger will have to spend the next seven days in home quarantine.</p>

<p>Karnataka has classified Maharashtra, Gujarat, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as "high prevalence" states.</p>

<p>The passengers coming through remaining states in the country to Karnataka will have to undergo 14 days of home quarantine.</p>

<p>However, the Karnataka health department clarified that special cases where businessmen are coming for urgent work will not require to undergo any quarantine if they bring test results that are not more than two days old and show them COVID-negative.</p>

<p>Puri's announcement on Wednesday that airlines will resume domestic passenger flights from Monday came as a big breather for the aviation sector.</p>

<p>The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Sunday issued guidelines for domestic travel, advising passengers to download the Aarogya Setu app on their mobile devices and asking states to ensure thermal screening at the departure point of airports, railway stations and bus terminals.</p>

<p>Asymptomatic passengers should be permitted to travel after being asked to self-monitor for 14 days, the ministry said.</p>

<p>Dos and Don'ts shall be provided along with tickets to travellers by the agencies concerned, said the ministry's guidelines for domestic travel (air/train/inter-state bus travel).&nbsp;</p>

<p>A 53-year-old female flight attendant fell off a stationary Air India plane while closing its door at the Mumbai airport Monday, suffering serious injuries, airline and hospital authorities said.</p>

<p>The wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft was preparing to depart for New Delhi when Harsha Lobo fell on the tarmac from a height of 20 feet, apparently through a gap between the rear door and the step ladder, a senior Air India official said.</p>

<p>The incident occurred at around 6 am, the official said.<br />
Lobo suffered multiple fractures in her legs and was rushed to the Nanavati Hospital where she is being treated, the airline said.</p>

<p>Owing to the incident, the flight AI-864, scheduled to take off at 7 am, got delayed by about one-and-a-half hours.</p>

<p>"In an unfortunate incident, one of our cabin crew (member), Harsha Lobo, fell down on the tarmac from the Boeing-777 aircraft door while closing it," the airline said in a statement.</p>

<p>The statement said Air India is inquiring into the incident.</p>

<p>"Though full investigation will establish the reasons for the incident, prima facie it seems there was a gap between the aircraft gate and the step ladder, through which she slipped off 20 feet down on the tarmac," an official of the airline said.</p>

<p>The airline's safety department has called all the people related to the incident on Tuesday as part of its probe, the official added.</p>

<p>The Nanavati Hospital said a cabin crew member of the Air India flight was brought to the hospital at 7 am after she suffered "serious injuries".</p>

<p>"The patient is suffering from right leg compound fracture, fracture in both heels and soft tissue injury in chest, abdomen and lower spine. She also suffered a sprain in the neck (cervical spine)," it said in a statement.</p>

<p>The woman is under observation and is being treated by Dr Prakash M Doshi, director of orthopedics and traumatology, Nanavati Hospital's Chief Operating Officer Dr Rajendra Patankar said.</p>

<p>Last week, 136 passengers and crew on board an aircraft of Air India Express, which is the low-cost international arm of the national carrier, had a miraculous escape after the plane hit a wall and suffered extensive damage while taking off from Tiruchirappalli airport for Dubai.</p>

<p>Despite the extensive damage to the belly of the aircraft, the Boeing 737 continued flying for nearly four hours, before being recalled by the airline and made to land in Mumbai in emergency conditions.</p>

<p>Earlier in September, about 370 passengers on board an Air India flight AI-101 between New Delhi and New York had a narrow escape after the B 777 planes instrument landing system failed.</p>

<p>This happened when the aircraft was about to land at New Yorks JFK airport, forcing the crew to abort landing and do a go around.</p>

<p>"After the incident, an internal inquiry has been set up, pilot and co-pilot derostered till the investigation is done," Air Indian Express said in a statement.</p>

<p>The primary city airport is the main base of Jet Airways for its both domestic and international operations.</p>

<p>Jet Airways cancelled 70 flights, including 54 domestic services, Air India decided not to operate 34 flights in view of the runway closure.</p>

<p>Jet Airways also rescheduled 70 flights, including 17 international ones, while Air India diverted four flights.</p>

<p>Jet Airways also announced a list of rescheduled and cancelled flights on its website.</p>

<p>SpiceJet and GoAir said they cancelled 18 and seven flights respectively, while Vistara said it did not operate six services.</p>

<p>On an average, there are 970 flight arrivals and departures at the Mumbai airport every day.</p>

<p>Passengers who are travelling during the time of 11am to 5 pm are advised to contact airline first to confirm the timings.</p>

<p>Earlier this year, several flights were cancelled and rescheduled at the primary international airport of Mumbai after a similar shut down carried by Mumbai International Airport Limited.</p>

Mumbai: Airport to remain shut for six hours due to maintenance work

<p>Flight operations at the Mumbai airport are likely to be affected for two days as the the private aerodrome operator today announced the closure of the main runway for six hours daily for pre-monsoon maintenance work.</p>

<p>The closure of the main runway, 09/27, is expected to put passengers at inconvenience in view of the suspension of a good number of services by various airlines during the period, sources said.</p>

<p>The Mumbai airport is the primary base of Jet Airways and a bulk of its operations, both domestic and international, are carried out from here.</p>

<p>"The main runway of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) handled by GVK MIAL, will be non-operational on April 9 and 10, between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs on account of pre-monsoon maintenance activities," the Mumbai International</p>

<p>Airport Limited (MIAL) said in a statement, issued about an hour before the commencement of the runway closure.</p>

<p>Passengers are requested to connect with their respective airlines, said MIAL, the private airport operator.</p>

<p>The Mumbai airport, which is the second busiest in the country, has two crossing runways -- 09/27 (the main) and 14/32 (the secondary runway).</p>

<p>While the primary runway can handle up to 48 arrivals and departures per hour, the secondary runway has a capacity of 35 movements per hour.</p>

<p>On an average, there are 970 flight arrivals and departures at the Mumbai airport every day.&nbsp</p>
