This means that the government has set a deadline of December 2023 for recruitment of 1 million people.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment on March 24 this year said, "The data on Employment and Unemployment is collected through Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) conducted by National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) since 2017-18."

The decision of the government for the recruitment has come amid frequent criticism by the Opposition on the issue of unemployment. Opposition parties have been lashing out at the government over vacant posts in different government sectors.

Modi's direction was welcomed by his colleagues in the government.

Indian PM Narendra Modi directs government departments for 1 million recruitments in next 1.5 years

Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi will be travelling to United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the last week of this month. The visit will be part of his visit to Germany, where he will be going to take part in the G7 summit. The G7 summit is due to take place from 26 to 28 June 2022 at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps.

High-level visits between India, and UAE have been taking place routinely. The last visit by the PM to UAE was in August 2019 during which he received the UAE’s highest award, the 'Order of Zayed’ conferred upon him by UAE leadership. The visit also witnessed the official launch of ‘RuPay Card’ in UAE and the release of a set of stamps commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. Previously PM travelled to UAE in 2015 and 2018.

UAE is the second-largest export destination of India (after the US) with an amount of over US$ 30 billion for the year 2018-19. For UAE, India was the second-largest trading partner in 2018 with US$ 36 billion (non-oil trade).&nbsp;

The diaspora forms the main pillar of ties. Indian expatriate community of approximately 3.4 million is the largest ethnic community in UAE constituting roughly about 35 per cent of the country’s population. 15% of the diaspora is in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the rest in 6 Northern Emirates including Dubai.

UAE also issued a statement, even as its neighbouring country Qatar was the first to issue a statement and summon the Indian envoy.

PM Modi to travel to UAE this month

India's biggest dairy group&nbsp;Amul&nbsp;has written to the government urging it to delay a planned ban on tiny plastic straws, saying the move will have a "negative impact" on farmers and milk consumption in the world's biggest producer of the commodity.

Amul&nbsp;made its appeal in a letter, dated May 28, that was sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office ahead of a July 1 ban on straws packaged with small packs of juices and dairy products, a market estimated by an industry body to be worth 790 million dollars.&nbsp;Amul&nbsp;sells billions of small dairy cartons with plastic straws attached every year.

The decision has spooked&nbsp;Amul&nbsp;and global drinks majors including PepsiCo Inc and Coca-Cola, especially after the government declined to change its stance and asked companies to switch to alternative straws.

In its letter, signed by Managing Director R S&nbsp;Sodhi, the 8 billion dollars Amul&nbsp;group said the straws help promote milk consumption, and called for the ban - part of Modi's drive to stamp out polluting, single-use plastic - to be postponed for a year.

A delay would "provide huge relief and benefit" to 100 million dairy farmers who "safeguard our food security in terms of milk and milk products", Sodhi wrote.

A source familiar with the government's thinking has previously told that the straws were a "low-utility product" which should be replaced with paper straws or packs with re-designed spouts instead.

Sodhi declined to comment on his letter, but said&nbsp;Amul&nbsp;may have to sell packs without straws once the ban kicks in from July 1.

Priced between 5 rupees and 30 rupees (7- 40 US cents), small beverage packs containing juice and milk products are hugely popular in India and part of a much bigger market for such beverages.

Based in Modi's home state of Gujarat in western India,&nbsp;Amul&nbsp;is also popular for its plastic pouches containing milk, its cheese and chocolates.

Praveen Aggarwal of Action Alliance for Recycling Beverage Cartons, which represents drinks majors, said companies were considering importing paper straws from China, Indonesia and other nations in light of the upcoming ban.

"There will be disruption", he said.

A person with direct knowledge of the matter said Parle has also written a letter to the Indian government, saying there was not enough local production of alternative straws, and imported paper and biodegradable variants were around 250 per cent more expensive.

Parle Agro's Chief Executive Schauna Chauhan said the company had started importing paper straws for now but it was unsustainable. "The economics just does not match up for a 10 rupee product", she said.

Pepsi and Coca-Cola declined to comment.

Deuba's statement comes after Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's fifth visit to the Himalayan nation in which he took part in a Buddhist ceremony to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Buddha at Lumbini in southwest Nepal.

During Modi's visit, India and Nepal signed an agreement to build a 695 megawatt (MW) hydropower plant as New Delhi looks to grow its influence in its smaller neighbours, where China is also increasingly active.

Former Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had objected to India’s inauguration of a road link via Lipulekh to Kailash Mansarovar in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.

China has been pouring heavy investment into the landlocked Himalayan nation even though Nepal has traditionally done a balancing act between New Delhi and Beijing.

"I have spared no effort in my service to the nation in the last eight years. I have neither allowed, nor personally done any such work that will make you or even a single person of India hang head in shame," he said.

"In the last eight years, we have made honest attempts to build the kind of India that Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel dreamt about," he added.

During this period, the government has worked for the uplift of the poor, the prime minister said.

"We served the country's poor through various pro-poor schemes and tried to make their lives better," he said, adding that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the government opened the food grain stocks for the poor and also vaccinated each and every citizen.

Assembly elections are due in Gujarat this year. In his speech, PM Modi said that Gujarat had not seen development and growth before 2001. PM Modi said his government abides by Mahatma Gandhi's ideology of Swadeshi and was implementing policies accordingly.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the 200-bed K.D. Parvadia hospital at Atkot in Rajkot district of Saurashtra region. The superspeciality hospital is developed with an investment of Rs 40 crore. The facility was established by the Leuva Patidar leader, BJP`s Bharat Boghra and his family. Boghra is vice president of BJP`s Gujarat unit.

Without naming the Congress rule, he criticised that in past, industrial development was limited between Vapi and Vadodara and pharma sector remained in just one or two districts. He added that the previous governments never focused on expanding trade, businesses and industries, which his government did.
